Meat sauce is a very simple dish, man. I don't know how you've managed to disrespect it so intimately. The only explanation I could imagine is that the onions take up more space in the dish, leaving much less space to be filled by the meat (aka the star of the dish). We wanted tasty pasta and decided on Brogino's, which has always been reliable for amazing sauces. We ordered the meat sauce linguini and added a large sausage pizza to share. Picked up and brought home-not comfortable with "outdoor dining" still. My daughter and I both adored - even salivated over - the meat sauce, but really didn't enjoy the pizza. The sauce was good but was completely lost in the super thick bready crust. It used to be so good and authentic but this was not. I've eaten here a few times and enjoyed it overall. I think that the food is solid and the portions are generous. Cocktails were good. I dig the old-school vibe and the quirky decor too. The booths are a little cramped but it's a small place overall so that comes with the territory. A lot of reviewers here are critical of the service. As a former New Yorker, it seems normal to me. For whatever reason, red sauce restaurants and steak houses tend to have waitstaff who are a little more terse and gruff than the usual uber-friendly SoCal server. I don't mind, but I get why it would irk someone who hasn't seen this before. I'd surely go back and I'm grateful that our neighborhood has a local and original spot like this. read more

I don't do reviews but the food was so terrible I don't want anyone else to have the worst food experience of their life. The food tasted frozen and then warmed up to just luke warm. The veal parmigiana had the most rubbery taste. The carbonara was runny and tasted like crap, a frozen version at the grocery store would be better. The calamari was filled with breading and the calamari was this long string of weird whit thing. Even the garlic bread was worst then garlic toast you can get a the store frozen. We had such an amazing experience at Brogino's a couple of nights ago. It was our first time there & from the moment we walked in we LOVED the restaurant, service & of course the food. We were in there a few weeks ago with a party of 20 and dropped over $1200 on the meal and that didn't include what we all spent at the bar while watching the end of the Lakers game. The food and service was good. Most of the party left and there was a few of us left at the table just relaxing and finishing our drinks. They were still serving a few people at the bar and a older gentleman came out and turned the lights off on us. That was pretty low rent thing to do. I like the intimacy of the place. The service was slow. It took a while to get menus. There were about 8 tables and 1 server I think. We ordered a Hawaiian pizza and spaghetti & meatballs. The pizza had olives, pepperoni and tomatoes on it. I have never heard of such a thing on a Hawaiian. Also the dough is super think and wasn't cooked through. The pepperoni was yummy though. The pasta dish came with minestrone, which wasn't as hearty as others I've seen and besides the slightly saltiness, it was good (generous portion). The food here is good but not great but I love the atmosphere. It is a small family run business that gives great service. With your entree they bring a big bowl of salad and bread. They only use skinless breasts of chicken and fresh veal. They use only extra virgin olive oil and unsaturated vegetable oil in their cooking and most sauces are made with wine instead of oil. They make their bread and pizzas fresh every morning with no cholesterol, no preservatives and low salt. If you want a cute romantic place to take someone to but do not want to spend a fortune stop by here. They have a small 4 or 5 stool bar that you can sit at and eat if you are dining alone and they have a inexpensive wine list. I love their pasta, but when it comes to pizza...not so much. I ordered a large tomato & basil and a small Hawaiian pizza...both came with a exorbitant amount of raw huge chunks of tomatoes. Tried this place since it's about 2 blocks from where I live. When first entering the restaurant it right off the bat felt like an old style Italian restaurant. A-little on the old side but had potential. When it comes to the appetizers and starter plates they are very generous. The minestrone soup tasted was pretty simple, had a lot of veggies in it but the noodles where over cooked. The butter garlic bread they give out however was heavy but tasted great with there house balsamic. The salad also was made with there house balsamic vinaigrette and tasted delicious. As for the main course I ordered half eggplant parmigiana and half shrimp parmigiana. The shrimp was cooked well and had nice breading but the eggplant came out a little overdone and mushy. Overall the dish could have been better if it hadn't been dredged in so much marinara and mozzarella. Same for the side of spaghetti that also came with my meal. Even though the waiter was nice, the service was pretty slow considering there were only 4 other tables that night. Overall this place as ok. Definitely will have less of the appetizer food if I ever go here again. read more

Very disappointing experience. We arrived about 15 minutes early for our reservation and were seated after a couple of minute wait. The AC was just getting started and fans were going on record-breaking day of heat, making it super difficult to hear. But that's not the reason for the review. We were served water and bread shortly after being seated, but were not visited/acknowledged/served for 15 minutes after! We just sat there while other tables, even some who were sat after us, were served! The staff had seen us (they turned from their help of other tables to look at us) but never came by. No drinks ordered, no appetizers ordered, no food ordered! So, we left! Why stick around if that's the service we were going to get. It may have just been a bad day for them or something else, but I am not impressed with what I experienced. read more

After living in the South Bay for over a decade, we finally decided to try this little Italian restaurant, and we are glad we did. The food was excellent, the portions are big, even the a la carte. Can't imagine how big the complete meal would be. Our party had got the pesto, chicken Marsala, and osso bocco. The garlic bread was excellent, fresh out of the oven. Old school Italian... Broginos opened in the 70's and probably doesn't look much different than it did back then. Entrees are available a la carte, or as a meal, which includes salad, soup, and I think something else. The portions were LARGE, so a la carte was good for us. Garlic bread is brought when you sit down. I had the eggplant parm, which had 4 generous slices, plus a side of spaghetti (I got mine with marinara sauce). Everything we ordered looked great, and people seemed happy with their meals. Service was straight down the middle. The food was good, but not amazing. Caveat: I don't often eat Italian because the food is heavier than I prefer. It was a good experience, but not one I'd blow the calories on too often. read more

I was careful to order full dinners and never mentioned ala carte because all three of us (one son was soup only) wanted soup & salad. When I arrived I thought the bag looked too small and so I asked if the waiter was sure it was everything. Your partner then came to the door where the pick up area was. He said, I took your order and told me I requested ala carte dinners... I told him I didn't and wanted full meals.My son was with me & we looked at each other knowing that your partner/owner/guy that's been working there FOREVER was dead wrong....instead of rectifying the situation, or offering a suggestion (or heck, offering to up sell me to full meals) he proceeded to shout at me! When I asked him why he was yelling at me he yelled that he wasn't yelling ...this went on for a bit...until the reality of this ridiculous situation hit me! I'm getting screamed at for wanting to pay more....lmao! Really? It's my birthday...and as much as I wanted the 2 orders of Shrimp Asparagus, fettuccine Alfredo & minestrone ( $80 worth of great Brogino's food!) ... it was NOT worth being belittled, harangued and yelled at. Reminded me of a place I went to in Florence. Food: Garlic bread tasty, served complimentary. Red wine ($8 a glass) got the Cabernet , was really good. Chicken alfredo was pretty good, I enjoyed it. The shrimp and scallops were fresh. The lasagna is out of this world! No ricotta filled bland mush. You can taste the sausage, the onion, the tangy marinara. We were so thrilled that Brogino's finally decided to open for take out nearly two months after closing due to the pandemic. After eating here at least once a week for 20 years, we have missed this food! Of course, we usually dine in, but since this was not a possibility, we happily took our orders to go, and it was SO GOOD!! My veal piccata was as tasty as anything I've ever had anywhere. Mouth watering with every bite. The side of spaghetti with meat sauce was perfect. My wife had the Italian stir-fry which is always great for her, and this was no exception. We even ordered our cocktails to go and the pour was more than generous. The only way to make this experience more perfect would have been to eat it there, but this was so much better than other take out we have been forced to endure during this difficult time. I thought this place was ok. The decor is really cute, reminds me of bucca di beppo. Their complimentary garlic bread was tasty. Service was decent. As for the food, I came with my family and we all ordered different dishes. I ordered the Chicken La Napoli and it had too little chicken. I also thought it was too greasy. Everyone else thought the food was just ok as well. I did however re-heat my leftovers the next day and it tasted better :). Old school restaurant since 1977. I placed an order by phone so when I arrived it was ready when I took a seat at my table. This was lunchtime from work and I had a limited time to eat. I tried the Calzone Florentine which turned out to be really good, I only ate half of it and the rest went into a doggy bag. Went to this place because I read on the reviews that it was good but had a bad experience. Ordered the Lasagna which was ok but the Chicken Scallop Parmigiana was horrendous. Scallops had a pierce fishy smell to it and the tomato sauce was super bland. Even the garlic bread was bland and the bread they used was too thick and chewy. Called to let them know but the owner seemed not to care at all with no concern. Just stayed quiet. Didn't give an apology of any type or offer some type of reimbursement. Oh yeah and it was my Bday as well. I should've went to my favorites like Spumoni Trattoria & Pizzeria or Grimaldi's Pizzeria but tried my luck here instead. Boy was I wrong.
