We visited the Broiler to celebrate my birthday. Upon entering it was clear we were walking in to a 70's style restaurant and lounge. It was awesome, particularly considering we were celebrating somewhat of a milestone bday. We were seated when we arrived and greeted by our server immediately after the bus person had served us our water and delivered warm bread and butter to get us started. We ordered New York steaks with baked potatoes, salad with house dressing and salad with bleu cheese dressing, and a glass of house red to accompany dinner. The bread, salad, and dressings were very tasty. The steaks were cooked to perfection and seasoned wonderfully. And the baked potatoes were a great texture and heat and served with enough sour cream to make them enjoyable. Portions were very generous. I couldn't finish my meal. I'm so happy this place exists! We don't have anything like it in all of Mendocino or lake county. I live in Kelseyville so it's nice to have a steakhouse near by that I can go to that's closer to me than all the way in SF. The filet Mignon is such a killer deal and a hefty amount of food. In fact, I'm pretty sure there is in no where else in California you can get a steak of that size and quality for such a good price. All the sides and appetizers are wonderful too! First time in this area of CA in many years. Did some wine tasting, after which my buddy recommended we have dinner at this old-school steakhouse north of Ukiah in Redwood Valley, Broiler Steak House, Just west of 101 Fwy. Had not eaten much during the day, so we headed there, arriving around 4:30. First 2 things I noticed: pretty non-descript building, but a lot of cars parked in front of and across from the place. Once inside we found out why, when asked if we had a reservation. At 4:30pm on a Tuesday! Waited only a short time before we were seated. My buddy had brought a nice bottle of Cab, the corkage being only $10 (which is unheard of these days, when average corkage fees run $20-$50). The meats are all cooked over oak-fired grills, so we were excited. First they brought us salads with an unusual "house" dressing, kind of a combo of Italian and 1000, with a bit of French and some horseradish. Very tasty. Also had some great warm sourdough rolls. I ordered the Top Sirloin with grilled shrimp, he got the Ribeye. They both were cooked perfectly medium rare, and came with potato choices or rice pilaf. I was stunned at the portion size of my steak! Especially with beef prices so high these days. By the way, both our dinners were under $40, a bargain in 2026. Service was excellent, all staff working hard. No wonder this place is still going strong after 60 years (opened in 1966). If you're a vegetarian this place is not for you. Our first time eating here and the food was terrific. Definitely has an old school steak house vibe from the 70's and 80's but not run down. It's a traditional experience that the younger crowds leaving less stellar reviews may not understand. We came for the prime rib and asked for medium rare because some reviews mentioned that medium was slightly over cook on the light end of pink. Medium rare was perfect! I did put some horseradish on it but scraped it off. The prime rib was delicious without it. It actually masked the flavor. The onion rings are also fantastic especially with the onion ring sauce. They mix the salad dressing into the salads so if that's not your thing you may want to mention it when you order. I personally liked it. They apparently have a week day special. I will definitely be coming back for that. Just an added note. Bar was also great. Good drinks and friendly bartenders. My bride and I started our relationship 37 years ago tomorrow at this steakhouse as our first date. We went back for the first time, we now have Montana plates, last night to revisit and celebrate that and our accomplishment of 14 1/4 grand children. It was nice to see the place still in business after covid and just so much time. However, I'm not sure how they pulled that off. Flavors were still great as far as the beef went. The problem was, we asked for med rare and got not just raw but cold. Gordon would have come unglued!! We both got what we ordered almost 38 years ago and the broiled lobster was as tough as they could get and as flavorless as the rubber tire they chewed like. The dishes are the same ones we ate off of back then and the building hasn't had even had dollar thrown at it since I went to the school across the street in 8th grade. One can try but you won't be able to see through the glasses even if they were wet out the washer because the water spots on the ceiling blocks the multi colored lighting . When the steaks first arrived it didn't look like that much food, but that's an illusion. We are going to have our fourth meal tonight featuring the steaks to go: The night at the restaurant, a steak sandwich, steak and chantarelles, and finishing with beef hash. At $42 for the Filet, that breaks down to about $10 per star of the show. By North Bay standards, the food quality for the price is off the charts good. This place is no fine dining. It gives you 10$ prime rib deals in Vegas, down to the seating and booths. I swear you look around and you'll think that the slots are right in the other room. I guess everybody comes here for the quick steak and lobster.. but the food is very very basic. If you're looking for a good steak without the line cook feeling. I suggest the brewery down a couple of miles. There was no rib eye, or tomahawk. There was prime rib. The top sirloin was very VERY chewy, the New York was also very chewy. I have been going to the Broiler for over 35 years, it is a good place to eat with friends or family. We were always greeted by a real nice lady who was an owner but sadly has passed away. Unfortunately i haven't been back since her passingWell the food, steaks shrimp and even seafood pasta, ribs, chicken always good, servers are always great and so nice. It is a hit and miss on the Bloody Mary since it depends on who is bartending. ‼Future Customers beware‼ We came in as a group and ordered three steaks, including their "T-bone New York" special, and two chicken pastas. All three steaks came out blue rare -- far from the medium rare we ordered. When we sent them back, they returned burnt. The chicken pasta was equally disappointing, with chewy chicken and watery pasta. We had lost our appetite but decided to ask for the bill for what we actually consumed -- a single house salad and four Shirley Temple drinks. The total came out to over $84. When we asked the manager running the place that day why it was so high, she claimed she had no control over pricing and couldn't explain it. A manager's job is literally to know why a bill comes out to a certain amount and explain it -- this is basic customer service. This experience was beyond frustrating -- it was hostile, unsafe, and outrageous. Between the poorly cooked food, unhelpful service, overcharging, and threatening behavior, this place is not worth anyone's time or money. We like the salad tossed at your table, you can tell them how much dressing you'd like instead of it being overly drenched! The homemade rolls, and the grilled prawns are excellent. We have been going to The Broiler for years to celebrate birthdays and other special events. The food never disappoints. On our most recent visit, we ordered our usual favorites. Being older, my friend and I don't eat like we used to. Broiler portions are hefty, so we choose to split/share a meal. This time, to our surprise, we had to ask for a second plate. The waitress responded that there was now a "second plate fee". WHAT? I buy a $47 meal and you'll charge me $6 for an extra plate? My only option was to eat my meal from my bread plate and it would have spilled onto the table. I agreed to the plate and was brought a much smaller than the normal size plate. There were 5 in our party and one take away meal. The bill was over $200 with no alcohol. By principle, I was gobsmacked that I was charged extra for a dang plate! The meal was delicious. This place is a throwback to a previous era. I go here only because my partner loves their onion rings, but I find it difficult to find anything I enjoy on the menu. I go only for the kitsch experience and Louie's love of the onion rings. Most people probably go for the prime rib, which they usually enjoy. Three straight times visiting Broiler and I was disappointed everytime. The first two have been documented before so this review will only cover the last visit. On June 26th 2026 my family and I went to Broiler in hopes of having a great meal with great people. For the third straight time I stupidly ordered the hearty cut prime rib. I requested medium well and the first time was medium rare and the second was rare bordering on raw (from my previous visits). So common sense tells me if they can't get medium well right just order well done. When my steak arrived it was dry as anything on the outside and again rare on the inside. The waitress asked how everyting was so I explained to her what I had in front of me. She was very sorry for the mistake and I explained to her that it wasn't her fault. She offered a different cut to which I turned down (becasue as soon as my order is done wrong there is no making it right.) She offered more sides so I would have at least someting to eat. I politely declined. This night would have been a complete disaster if it wasn't for my family and the one waitress that tried to make it right. Our waitress did get the steak removed from our bill. I'm sorry but this is strike three. Club Calpella will be my go to now. read more

Best to make reservations because they fill up fast. Pretty casual steakhouse. Got there and they called us after 5 minutes for our table. Plenty of steak options. Prime rib: huge slab of steak that you can choose petite or full size. My cousin got petite and it looked like a full size one. It was very moist and tender. Sirloin and scallops: cooked just the way I like. My daughter ate her share. The scallops were ok, but I didn't care for the breading too much. They have warm bread and salad that comes with the meal. They give you plenty of salad. Also comes with side of friends, mash potatoes, baked potatoes, or rice pilaf. Nice since there is a bar. Amazing family owned steak house that's been in business for many years. Steaks are perfectly cooked. Good variety on menu. Plus there are items that aren't on the menu that you have to know about. I've been coming to this place since I was a little kid. It's always been a treat. I don't usually go out for steak because I cook a really good steak, but it was a special occasion. The food is amazing, and I consistently enjoy the food. I got prime rib last night, and it was almost as good as mine. Now, the part that drops my rating. The hostess that I've seen the last two times I've been in here is just plain unfriendly and borderline rude. I see lots of other comments from people on here, and it's true. I also really dislike how they force people to go wait in the bar. I make reservations and they still make us wait in the bar for about 15 minutes. This drives me nuts. We don't drink, and I don't like the bar atmosphere. I don't care other people drink, but if I make reservations, why make me wait in a bar. read more

Oh, and be very careful about accidentally leaving anything at the table. It won't be found! The Broiler Steakhouse is a staple restaurant for families and couples in the Redwood Valley and Ukiah area. Easy to get to if you are traveling on 101. You have to order the house salad which is served family style, it is our favorite. I would recommend making reservations if you want to dine on a weekend. When we were seated, the menu was short, which I hoped would indicate a well curated, delicious meal. We started with the shrimp cocktail, which was good, though it didn't seem fresh (maybe frozen). The break was warm and soft, but unremarkable. The salad dressing options for our family-style salad were Italian, Thousand Island, and **. The salad was basic green, with beets and garbanzo beans. My husband ordered the Halibut, which was overcooked and dense. I ordered the filet mignon, which was fatty and the cut of meat was unappealing. Both of our backed potatoes were dry and the topping options were sour cream and butter. We were offered "chives," which was actually parsley. We passed on dessert. The venue is dated, but could be described as nostalgic or a throwback to the 80s. Coming from Lake County, I hoped to fine a place worth driving to, but we may have to keep looking. read more

We visited on Wednesday 10/1. We were on our last night of vacation. We thought we would top the trip off with a steak dinner. I rarely write reviews, nor do I post this to be mean. I ordered that rib steak,baked potato and blue cheese dressing on my salad. My husband ordered the top sirloin and shrimp with fries and salad with the blue cheese dressing. As we were seated I noticed the little carts being pulled up to the tables and salad being tossed and plated. I figured the salad should be good. When the waitress brought it out my first thought was this is not bluecheese dressing. I tasted it and it had tiny bits of blue cheese to give the oily house dressing the blue cheese flavor. My husband stuck his fork in his salad and got this golf balk size white thing. He didn't know what it was, thought maybe a big piece of cauliflower? Nope it was a huge piece of blue cheese. He literally gaged on this huge piece of blue cheese. He mentioned it to the waitress. She smiled and said, Oh you got a chunk customers love the chunks! No! No one would want to bit into a huge chunk of blue cheese. Then dinner came out. My baked potato was warm to touch but not hot enough for the butter to melt. My steak was horribly tough. My husbands steak was tough as were his shrimp. We requested steak knives as we could not cut our meat with the knifes we received. Apparently it was hard to find a steak knife in a steak house. We finally got one and shared it. I can truly say the bread was warm and fresh and the salt and pepper was great. We both agree this was the worst steak dinner we have had in 48 years of marriage. read more
