I had dinner here a few weeks ago when I was in the Savannah area for a large family trip. The restaraunt is located in a great spot on the river and was quite full when I was here, signaling to me its a good restaraunt. The interior was quite nice as well. When we were seated (there were 7 of us), there was immediate confusion among the waitress and host. They started taking plates off the table, when there wasn't enough and then started placing more on the table. I don't think I have ever seeen plates get taken away when there wasn't enough to begin with. It was not a great first impression to me. Anyways, the appetizers came out very quick, but it did take a while for the entrees to come out. Thankfully it rained so we were not in a rush. The food here was decent, overall. For appetizers, we had the french onion soup, fried green tomatoes, and a salad. The fried green tomatoes were very good and my son liked how full and tasty the french onion soup was. For the main course, I had the fliet mignon and the steak was very soft and prepared exactly how I liked. I didn't like how the restaraunt does not offer mashed potatoes and only has french fries. My son had the sea food platter and to his surprise it was all fried. I will say that this restaraunt does serve a lot of fried food, so heads up if you don't like fried food. My wife really liked the catfish. For desert, we tried the pecan cake, beignets and cheesecake. All are great options for desert. Had dinner here a few years back and it is not the same for me. We came in for lunch and they started to serve lunch at 11 which is great. The reason I came here for was their grits. They had an amazing shrimp and grits when I came here back in the day. I was super surprised and disappointed to find out that now they only serve grits for breakfast. Funny thing is that when we came in they didn't tell us they were serving breakfast. I was happy that my server Jake went above and beyond and for us some of the breakfast Frits. My mom never had grits before and that was the whole reason I was there. It just felt like this was not a great experience overall cause grits is something that for me is expected in this area of the country. Idk super disappointed. The server Jake was amazing as I mentioned. We got the crab stuffed grouper: It was super spicy from the cumin and very hard. It was not a soft fish it was chewy and not great also only a small piece of the fish had stuffing. I was sharing the fish so the stuffed piece did not go to me. Therefore I just ate rubbery over cooked fish. This was the worst fish I have ever had. Hands down. definitely not worth the price. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious and decadent Surf and Turf burger. It was topped with a beautiful seafood blend of unctuousness that complimented the beef patty. We ordered it medium rare and it was a bit over but was still juicy. We also had the Grouper sandwich prepared blackened. The sandwich was also very good and the fish was cooked to perfection but it needed more seasoning--we added a kick of hot sauce to spice it up a bit. Monday night on river street in historic district Savannah. This great bar is on the Second floor patio overlooking the river. The martini was ginormous and I could only handle one but it was super good. The strawberry frozen margarita was very tasty. Raw oysters were good but tiny, but the Firecracker Shrimp made the night. It was sooo good, you have to try it!! And the servers were so sweet. They were so nice to allow us to bring Lexi along and even brought her water. We had an ok experience at Broken Keel. It started out good and then somehow our order got lost in the kitchen or it was never entered into the system. Our server let us know and we were playing a game so we didn't really notice how long it was taking for our food to come out. Once he told us it still took almost another 30 minutes. During our visit it rained multiple times and the weather started to cool off. We asked for the heaters (above our heads) to be turned on and the manager offered to turn them on and bring us blankets. We waited and waited and had to ask again for this to actually happen. We also asked for something to munch on since our food was taking so long. They brought chips and salsa which was great but in our opinion that should have come as soon as they realized our order was lost. Once our food arrived we enjoyed it but we were so ready to leave and our stay just kept getting drawn out. We had to track down our server to get our check and we got 10% off our bill. We felt like that was pretty measly considering what happened. We ended up being at the restaurant for almost three hours. The atmosphere is great and the food was good but unfortunately our experience wasn't the best. We'll probably skip it next time we're in town. read more

I went to advocate for the charges on the bill - the waitress snapped back immediately and aggressively. Accusing me of being a liar. Very unprofessional behavior - other customers were staring, making the experience uncomfortable. For me it wasn't about .75 charged topping it was how the waitress reacted and could have approached the problem friendlier (as that's part of their job). The waitress could explain for one of the three topping missing. I accepted her explainations for the peppers but pressed there were no onions or mushrooms. The keel isn't the only thing needing repair. Had lunch in this spot fortuitously located in a prime tourist area on a Saturday while spending a weekend in town. Not many other tables in the restaurant. The server was friendly enough, but we only saw her twice and someone else had to bring us our check. The lobster bisque was thin and bland. The strawberry summer salad was paltry and unimpressive for $17. The surf and turf burger, which sounded delicious enough on the menu that I was willing to spend $26 was not at all delicious. An extremely overcooked patty, a layer of that thin, bland bisque, a single shrimp, and a few sparse chunks of seafood all combined to create the most tasteless and unenjoyable burger I've had in quite some time. We ordered drinks, unfortunately they were out of mint and jalapeños, so I opted to not getting anything to drink. To compensate, our friendly waitress did give us a discount on our bill (so sweet).
