This was one of our after church service meals in the afternoon. I absolutely love broken yolk and I was hoping that we have an excellent dining experience. My husband is not so much of a big fan, but I do enjoy the pancakes here. On this visit, we joined the Yelp waitlist and it was for one minute, so when we checked in, we were immediately seated. It looked like they were not utilizing the middle dining room, which is more spacious and a lot more comfortable to sit in. It was a bit disappointing to be seated next to the makeshift busing area where dishes, condiments, containers, and silverware are gathered to place on the tables. I felt like because it was going to close in about 90 minutes. They didn't want to sit anybody in the nicer area. I did notice that they had some really nice new decor on the walls. They were custom wood features with beautiful plant arrangements. I thought that this was a nice touch because it added a level of classiness to the dining room and the overall restaurant. Although we were seated in a not so great area we still had good customer service. It was a bit distracting that all the servers kept coming over to the side of our table to replenish silverware or containers or condiments on other tables, and they had to make noise and carry with those items. They probably should have just not seated anybody next to that little busing area because it's just a dining experience killer. Our food was delicious this time I had ordered the Border Benedict with scrambled eggs instead of poached, and no jalapeños, which I had not yet tried. I also ordered one pancake à la carte. The flavors were decent. My Husband ordered the avocado toast with salmon. He enjoyed his food. The beautiful wood and plant arrangement art pieces are absolutely stunning and I recommend that people get into this place to have a look at them. They really do elevate the decor of this restaurant. The manager is always nice here too. Our coffees (actually my wife's because I don't drink coffee) are never empty and he's got jokes. I appreciate someone who enjoys work and has a great vibe. This visit I tried the seasonal/new ciabatta torta. This torta was packed with avocados, eggs, beans, poblano chiles, and asada. The ciabatta was toasted and looked like a double sized version of what I was used to. It came with hash browns that he asked if I wanted crispy (which Miguel remembered I like it that way or just suggested) either way I appreciated the gesture. My husband witnessed a hamburger coming out of the kitchen, The expeditor lifted the bun top, stuck his finger in, determined it wasn't hot enough and stuck it in the microwave, bun, onion ring and all. I ordered a simple 2 egg breakfast with bacon, well done hash browns and blueberry muffin. The hash browns were not well done as requested. The scrambled eggs were tasteless and felt like rubber in my mouth. I didn't receive one whole piece of bacon, just a couple of over cooked pieces. My muffin was kind of flat, not rounded and fluffy. Butter wasn't offered, just the cheapest glob of margarine imaginable. I wasn't offered a refill of my ice tea, until we were ready to leave... empty long before the meal was over. My husband ordered the chorizo omelet. The eggs felt like a premade version that was later filled and microwaved. The chorizo was under cooked and the sourdough bread wasn't even toasted. read more

Took my family there for breakfast we sat down pretty quickly. Our server was fantastic always checked in on us. My wife ordered a French toast with strawberries. What we got was maybe 1 tablespoon of strawberries on four slices of French toast so we had to ask for more toppings like butter French toast was delicious. Everything was so delicious and looked so yummy that I totally forgot to take pictures before we started eating, so excuse the 1/2 eaten dish, lol. Choosing the name when starting a business is a huge deal, "Broken Yolk Cafe" always was going to be the perfect name for a breakfast place. I've never been to one despite living here for 25+ years now, and always wanted to. Today, a Sunday, I dropped my daughter off for something nearby, and swung by during a lull in reservations, immediately getting a spot on the patio - sheer luck. It's a very nice spot, near a lot of other services and businesses but in a really nice strip mall, etc. I actually didn't see the inside. Rudy (very nice guy) took my order and I crap you not, I had my food in less than two minutes, AND, somehow, the eggs were cold. I don't even want to speculate about how you'd pull something like that off, but there you have it. I wasn't too impressed with the food quality itself, the eggs were just fine, they were eggs and I salted and peppered them to perfection. That didn't help them not be cold. The hash browns were very good. The biscuit, as well as a la carte gravy, were fine. It doesn't stack up to the biscuits and gravy I've had at more I guess, legitimate spots, as I'm guessing something like the chilaquiles wouldn't if I had tried those. I originally wanted to, but was real with myself. Um, overall, I guess it's great they have the name going for them? I would probably go 3.5 if it was possible to do that, or even just agree with the 3.7 presently indicated by the masses, a lot of that thanks to Rudy. read more

First the service was great even though it was busy. We went for a late breakfast on a Saturday. The food was just ok. We ordered the no name omelette and eggs Benedict two ways, fried Chechen and chipotle bacon. The hash browns tasted like the griddle- only way I can explain it - and the eggs in the eggs Benedict was not runny the way you expect. The omelette was good but Ive had a few from IHOP that were better. The blueberry muffin was great! I will go again and try other dishes hopefully with a better result. I have been to a couple locations before. This location is located in the town center of Eastlake. Parking isn't too bad as it is a shared lot with multiple businesses. We were seated on the outside patio. Very spacious. I didn't see the inside at all. They had some heaters located above the tables. It was still kinda chilly though. Service was ok. Since we were seated outside there was one server for the whole area. Food was good. They were able to customize my chia to pumpkin spice which was very nice of them. I've been wanting to check out Broken Yolk for the longest time - since I've moved down to San Diego, actually, as my previous living place had a location right across the street of me. It was finally the time to try it out when my boyfriend and I made our way down south for a small pop up event that was around the area. The location that we went to is located next to a dental group and Sprouts Farmers Market in the Village Walk at Eastlake in Eastlake. There's a huge parking lot with ample stalls, however, can be impossible to get a spot during the weekends around the late morning/noon lunch rush hour as people were lining up and waiting on the side for others to leave. By 1:30-2pm, there were a lot of open stalls. I saw that they had a holiday Snickerdoodle Latte which I wanted to try with my brunch. I asked for less sweet and my first initiative sip was VERY sweet. But once mixed it (whoops), it was not sweet at all. It was rather good but I didn't taste much of the cinnamon. It did taste different from a regular latte. I got their Ranchero Skillet with a side of flour tortilla, and I was very unimpressed and quite disappointed at this dish. The entire dish lacked in flavor. The potatoes and eggs were very bland. Even the spicy chorizo (which almost tastes like corn beef has but shouldn't be??) wasn't as flavorful to elevate the dish. I added hot sauce and black pepper, and they still didn't help with the flavor profile. Where was the ranchero sauce?? Thankfully my boyfriend liked it and ate it up. I thought it was kind of weird how we had a side of flour tortilla when there was so much potatoes in it... (read the next paragraph). My boyfriend got their Border Benedict which was so much better than my dish. The green sauce (poblano sauce) was so so good. The carne asada was also cooked very well where they weren't dry. Yum! However, the hash browns were a disappointment. They were soggy, limpy hash browns that looked very sad (peep at pic). Our server was very nice and would check up on us from time to time even though it seemed as if she was one of maybe two servers on the floor on a busy brunch/lunch time. The one thing I didn't appreciate was the fact that she made it sound as if our side of flour tortilla was a part of the dish rather than an add on that was an additional cost. When we got the bill, we were kind of confused by the additional charge until she told us it was because of the flour tortilla. Wot. Whatever, this is a good lesson for next time to ask. Overall, the service and ambiance for the restaurant was good but the quality of the food was lacking in my opinion. I ordered a Lemon Ricotta pancake, I felt disappointed because I was served with a regular pancakes with a slice of lemon and fine white sugar spread on top of the pancake. I was under the impression that the pancakes have ricotta, but they didn't have. Didn't taste the ricotta at all. My granddaughter liked her Kiddie chocolate chip pancake. And I could tell my son didn't like the waffle he ordered because he had more leftover than what he ate. Nevertheless, the only thing I liked about when we were here, our Server was very attentive, and very polite. She was always asking us if everything is okay. If you ever find yourself at Broken Yolk and you're lucky enough to be in Miguel's section--congratulations, you've hit the jackpot. Miguel was an absolute gem! He took care of our large (and slightly chaotic) party like a total pro. Drinks stayed full, food came out hot, and somehow he kept a smile on his face the whole time--even when we started playing musical chairs and asking for "just one more thing" for the third time. With that being said it is a busy plaza but patience will help find you a parking spot. Not sure why this location has so little stars. The wait on a Friday was about 5 minutes. It's a small location but the waiters were very attentive, well spoken and refilled my coffee. The hostess even brought me a side of salsa that was delicious.
