Not the best service. My wife and I were in the area and wanted to get some breakfast. Seeing the amount of good reviews brought us in to Broken Yolk Cafe. We stood by the entrance for a few moments while multiple employees saw us. Eventually we were seated at a table. Even while seated, however, no one came to us and after about 15 minutes, I decided to ask for someone to attend to our table. Once we placed our order, it then still took another 20 minutes for very basic breakfast food to come out. (My wife had scrambled eggs with bacon and I had an omelette.) Finally once we got our food, both my wife and I agreed that the food did not taste fresh to us. My wife's meal tasted like it had excess butter on it and my omelette was very poorly put together as the entire center of the omelette had a mouthful of raw onion. Both of us felt rather groggy and heavy from what should've been a rather light meal. Our server never attended to our table to check in on us thereafter and we again had to ask someone to bring our check. The cafe itself has a nice aesthetic but the complete lackluster service, and what we deemed as poor quality food, did not merit a price just shy of $43. Whether I'm meeting up with friends, going for a solo date (when my fiancé, Martin, is too sleepy to get up), or just craving a great breakfast, Broken Yolk never disappoints. The portions are generous and the service is always on point. One of the fun touches I love is the balloon artist who comes around--always fun seeing what he creates! When it comes to the menu, I usually go for the two eggs classic breakfast with corned beef hash-- it's classic and so satisfying. Martin's go-to is their Benedicts, where he'll usually pick the classic and Caprese. If I'm in the mood for a Benedict, I'm all about the Golden State Benedict. It's got this amazing sweet cornbread base, topped with carne asada and a delicious green sauce. It's truly a must-try! Oh, and if you're in the mood for something a little sweet, their French toast with strawberries is fantastic as well. Broken Yolk is the perfect spot if you're craving a solid breakfast or brunch. Life begins after breakfast! We had a busy day planned, so I was looking for something filling but also fulfilling to eat. Settled on this place after doing a quick search. Broken Yolk is in a shopping plaza near Harbor Boulevard and Adams Avenue. Large parking lot but it was challenging getting a spot on a busy Sunday afternoon. They use the Yelp Waitlist and you can join on your phone, but check in with the host when you arrive. It was about a 30 minute wait. Plenty of tables, booths, countertop chairs, and outdoor seating. Menu is a mix of everything under the sun. Pancakes, waffles, crepes, French toasts, burgers, wraps, sandwiches, salads, soups, omelets, benedicts, Tex-Mex, and more. They also have several beverages to choose from. Water was served in giant glass jars, I didn't have to ask for a refill! Cali Breakfast Burrito - Flour tortilla filled with avocado, bacon, cheese, eggs, and potatoes. Pretty standard. We don't eat a lot, so it was shareable between two people. Served with rice, beans, green sauce, and salsa on the side. Classic French Toast - Three slices of eggy bread sprinkled with powdered sugar on top. Can't go wrong with this one! Cinna-Cakes - two sweet and cinnamon-y pancakes. Portions were surprisingly large, didn't finish eating this one. It's somewhere between 3.5 - 4 stars for me. The food was pretty good, but the service was not that great. The waiter brought us a Dr Pepper instead of a Diet Pepsi the first time, which they then exchanged politely when asked. Then he forgot my friends toast that she asked for twice. When he brought us the bill, he asked if we ever got her toast which is supposed to be included in her meal and when we said no, he asked if she wanted a Diet Coke to go which we thought was so thoughtful to makeup for never getting the toast. 1/5 -- Deeply Disappointed I'm genuinely upset to be writing this because I come here often and have always loved this place, but my most recent visit was extremely disappointing. The service was disorganized from the start--upon arriving the lady at the front desk was very polite and helped us fairly quick. The problems started after we got seated. To start off, the server didn't even acknowledge one of the people at our party of 3. On top of that, more than one of our orders were completely wrong, not just small mix-ups. When we asked to have them corrected, another worker came up to us and was kind enough to take them back to the kitchen and bring us the right orders. When we did receive our orders back, they were poorly plated, barely had any sauce and looked as if done quick just to get it out of the way. Also, other tables who arrived after us were served quickly and treated with far more attention, which made the experience feel really unfair. Our server barely came to check on us the whole time we were there and he also got some of the order wrong, but we didn't want to be rude and we didn't complain. He also failed to take the order of one of us and brought out something that was not asked for. There was no apology, no explanation, and no effort to make things right. For a place I've supported for so long, that really stings. I sincerely hope management takes this seriously, because I've always loved and looked forward coming here--but after this experience, I'm not sure I'll be back unless things improve. read more

Arrived, sat in patio area. Not packed. Ordered strawberry banana smoothie and a skillet. Friend ordered her meal. Ambiance okay. We sat chatting and waited for about 30 minutes. No server checking in to excuse or explain the delay. 3 other tables came and one was served and they were almost done eating by the time we asked a different server to assist and it took about five more minutes before our server showed up with food in tow. By this point the other 2 tables were getting their food as well- keep that in mind. Service- 0/10 So we asked to the manager- enter manager. I explain the situation- and this man does not care. He proceeds to be dismissive and actually gaslighting us. How you ask? I say it took 30 minutes and we had to ask for our server and he says no it was about 20 minutes, and that it takes about 20-40 minutes to get food there- yes he literally said that. He said something about two kitchens and one with egg orders slower but how is it that the third table also ordered eggs and theirs came when ours did and we had been waiting about 30 minutes? If our server forgot our order- just say that! . I said in that case that would have been nice to be advised in advance of being backed up and delays so we could decide if we wanted to wait- and when I asked if that was unreasonable for a customer and how would he feel if he was in our place he said being in the industry he understands and would not care if food was that late- yeah okay. I proceeded to tell him since obviously customers are not in the industry and don't know the ins and out- that's not common knowledge and he said that's pretty typical for restaurants and on a Saturday and said "that's why I don't go out on the weekends" YES/ the manager basically said it was not a good idea to go out to eat on the weekends LOL- that's like saying don't come eat here on the weekends! How wonderful for them to have a manager advising customers AGAINST coming to dine way to promote the restaurant there buddy lol. I let him know we do in-fact dine out a lot, and on the weekends- and this is NOT typical for restaurants. He had NO apology, just a lot of excuses and dismissive energy. When we realized the kind of person we were talking to- I declined the food and asked to be billed for the smoothie. My friend packed hers to go, and off we went to another restaurant where we had a wonderful meal and excellent service. Obviously we will not be returning here. Food- didn't get to have it obviously. I've been coming to this location for over three years, but recently the service has gone downhill. I visited twice this week (Friday and Saturday) and had the same server both times. On Saturday, we arrived about 40 minutes before closing, and it felt like we were an inconvenience just for walking in. We've had this same server several times before, and he's never introduced himself or made much of an effort to be friendly. His service is always rushed and vague, which takes away from the overall experience. For example, we asked for a coffee refill he came and was rushing, poured the coffee, then spilled as he was pulling his arm back in. He didn't wipe the table or say sorry??? I understand accidents happen, but to not acknowledge it??? He doesn't even stop walking while checking in on us, just rude. It's disappointing to see the quality of service decline after being a loyal customer for so long. Unfortunately, will not be returning to this location. I finally made it to BYC after driving past it on Adams & Harbor in CM hundreds of times. Note to self: Don't go on a Sun after golf around 12:30 unless you want a long wait for your food. Despite the long wait for our food, the portions are big, and the food tastes good. I had the Mom omelette w/ a lot or veggies, a side of black beans and corn tortillas. I could not finish the omelette, and gave 1/4 to my friend. One of the guys in my regular golf group lives in CM, and is a regular here. One of the two remaining guys in the group liked the food. The fourth one liked the food, but did not appreciate his food coming after the other three dishes. In addition, his tortillas were in bad shape. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here and they have outdoor seating. BYC is a popular place for brunch on the weekends. Likewise, the service from Jennifer and the rest of the team was friendly & warm. She did warn us the kitchen was backed up when we ordered. Nonetheless, she stopped by a couple of times to check on us, and give us drink refills. I'm glad I finally made it here. I look forward to trying their salads, sandwiches or burgers the next time. I wish I could give zero stars. My girlfriend and I came here for breakfast for the first time and were genuinely shocked by the customer service. When I asked for a simple refill of tea, the staff rolled their eyes, like it was some kind of inconvenience. Is water or tea a rare commodity here? Within 30 minutes, we were repeatedly badgered about when we were leaving. Not once, but constantly. Both the waiter and the manager gave us dirty looks, and the overall environment felt uncomfortable and hostile rather than welcoming. Breakfast should feel relaxed, not rushed out the door.
