We had a party of 9 on a Saturday morning and celebrated 2 birthdays. I had doubts about getting in without a long wait with a large group, but my phone call talking to wonderful manager Tarissa regarding the best way to get on the wait list given the size of our party put me at ease. Tarissa provided excellent customer service and when we arrived we were seated quickly and in a perfect spot. All the staff was great, including the manager who came by the table and introduced herself. Also a special shout out to our server John T. who greeted us with a smile and went above and beyond and dealt with a few questions regarding special diet restrictions as well as the kid's needs. He is a gem! The coffee and waters were refilled promptly, and everyone was happy with their food which was served quickly! It's been a long time since I have been to this Oceanside location. Alas, I tacked on an extra star for the enthusiastic, friendly service. :) I have been here many times over the years, and I want to love this place. I keep exploring the menu because the amazing service brings me back, but half the things I've tried, I didn't like. It's not that the food is bad per se, it's just my palate doesn't appreciate it. My sweet go-to is the Nutella crepes with bananas and strawberries. My savory go-to was the Soup-Salad-Lunch combo. I'd get the tomato basil soup and Very Berry Salad (past tense because I hate paying for salad when I eat out, so I now just recreate it at home). Omg that salad though! Spinach, berries, goat cheese, candied walnuts, and a strawberry walnut vinaigrette. It's colorful, and the flavors go super well together. The egg dishes are what's meh to me. I got a benedict once and the egg yolks were hard, sauce horrible. The hollandaise was cold and reminded me of pudding. Lol I suppose it's not a valid complaint but omelettes are waaaay too big here. They are obscenely overstuffed! My chili omelette had a ton of salty mushrooms inside. I got four meals from that one dish, but I get tired of leftovers by round 3. Oh and the chili was meh. If they cut the salt and added more spice, it would have been better. Service has always been awesome here. I've had various servers over the years, and I appreciate the chit chat and when they tell me their favorite way of having a dish (it's how I learned you can have bananas AND strawberries with the crepes!) My water glass always stays full. A nice thing is that they don't up-charge for every little thing here. Other places would if you asked for extra fruits or extra chili! Overall, I will return because I look forward to trying the Tiki toast. I do recommend this place to others. The menu is big and broad enough to satisfy a wide variety of cravings. Items have a $3 extra charge for flavoring when it's the only option available. Not even other options to pick from. My family and I always enjoy our visits to Broken Yolk. The food and service are excellent. Staff is always friendly and do a great job. If someone who hasn't been before drove by and saw the many people outside waiting I would tell them it's well worth the wait and it isn't that long. The staff are always quick and efficient. My most recent was within the past week with our daughter. I wanted to reward her with a nice breakfast before school for how well she's been doing in school/soccer. Craig was our waiter that day and did a great job of getting our orders quickly and allowing us to enjoy them before school started. The first time my family tried The Broken Yolk we decided that it was our new favorite "Special Brunch Day" spot. The food is great, service is always good, and most importantly, our daughter loves it. Today we tried the mimosa flight, definitely recommend that, it was delicious. What a great place to have breakfast. A little pricey, but that seems to be more cali than anything else. My oldest and I had omelets. They didn't give you so much egg you can't taste any of the meat. Most places do that so they fill you up on egg. Hash Browns were awesome and the sourdough toast was perfect. This place is pretty large and most likely is packed on the weekend. I was here on a weekday and it looked pretty empty. Sitting at the counter, service was okay and their menu had a large selection, including some pretty unique versions of breakfast. I had an Eggs Benedict with bacon and Siracha and it was pretty good. Their home fries were skillet blackened mash potatoes and lacked flavor. Honestly, this yelper would prefer the value of Denny's. 1/2 the price for comparable food. Broken Yolk was good but hardly worth $20. read more

Came here for a late brunch on a Saturday. The wait was only a few minutes and we were seated outside. All the employees were wearing masks and they are sanitizing between guests. The food came quickly and was pretty good. I got the waffle sandwich, which gave me both sweet and savory for my breakfast, which I love. The home fries were bomb. The eggs left something to be desired--I'm not sure that they were real. A little rubbery. Husband got an omelet, and said it was "meh"--3/5. Good, quick and attentive service. The weekend wait is the pits, but thank goodness for a mostly cordial and calm staff. Our wait was about a half hour or so. There is a sizable room within that can hold a few dozen people. Not sure why that space isn't used for seating, but it may add an additional strain on the kitchen. Anyway, expect a bit of a wait. Food is tasty, and servings are sizable. I've also been to the Eastlake location, and actually prefer that one. The seating is more comfortable, and the space has a lovely brightness that this one doesn't seem to carry. But service here was friendly and swift. I most enjoy the Benedicts -- the Golden State is my favorite. I guess I am a bit of a traditionalist. Others offer spinach, roasted turkey and carne asada. But the Golden State -- which comes on an English muffin with avocado, grilled tomato and bacon -- is my preference. But there is the traditional-traditional Benedict, also, with ham. Mimosas are a bit steep in price, but seem worth it. I couldn't finish mine. And don't forget the Yelp check in -- you get 15% off. Bonus! That nearly took care of the cost of one mimosa. read more

First time here and mighty impressed. The Chicken and Waffles Benedict was one of the best Benedict's I've had. Finding places like this on work travels not only sets the day up right. I'm glad Broken Yolk is open. Especially with covid. They have a nice open patio area in the back with heaters so perfect atmosphere. The service was pretty good except they were slow with preparing the food and when the food came out it was cold. Not to mention we ordered an entree to go at the beginning and they forgot to prepare it so we had to wait quite awhile for it. read more

Had breakfast at the Broken Yolk in Oceanside CA today. The restaurant was clean and the people, from the Host who seated us to the server who waited on us, were great, this is why I gave 3 stars. If I was just rating the food I would have only given 1.5 stars for this establishment. We have eaten at the Broken Yolk in Oceanside for years. This is the first time we have gone back since the COVID pandemic. My wife had coffee and a short stack of pancakes with blue berries and a side of fruit. I had the American Breakfast with home fries with onion and peppers, no beverage. I was so disappointed in the eggs, I have never been served such small eggs at any restaurant. After dipping the yolk the base of the yolk was no bigger than a quarter. These must have been two medium or even small eggs. I had bacon, asked for "wiggly" bacon which usually isn't hard for a cook to prepare but the bacon came back crispy. The bill, before tip, came to $45:00! It was a meager breakfast for a premium price. Never again. read more
