I've been to 3 other Broken Yolk locations & this was my first time at this location. To my surprise, we were seated as soon as we came in. Often times there's a long wait time (especially on the weekends), but this time that was not the case! The host greeted us and sat us at our table. We were greeted by our server (I totally forgot his name) but he was super friendly! I ordered the Chilaquiles and I requested for them to add cotija cheese and for a side of their Mexican Rice. I was very pleased to have my requests made & our server often checked up on us to make sure everything was ok! Had a very pleasant experience at this location! The only down side is that parking is a bit difficult to find since they have limited spots, but that isn't the restaurants fault, there are other businesses in the same plaza, therefore I stick by my 5-star rating! I gave this place a try because I got a mailer with a BOGO entree offer, and I thought why not. We came on a Friday morning, and were seated right away. Overall, the service was mediocre. Friendly but slow. We got the chicken fried steak and eggs with home fries and a biscuit, and the sweet trio sampler, to try a few popular sweets (loved that they offered that!) The food was bland. The gravy tasted like wet flour. I added lots of salt and pepper and that made it edible. Not great, just sort of low-brow diner quality. Not what I would expect given the prices for breakfast food. The sweets were okay. Again, pretty bland. Just lacked flavor. I came in this Friday morning after quite a long drive schlepping a friend to his doctor a few blocks away. I was a bit fatigued and spaced out, and a single diner so I sat at the counter. I was able to watch the entire team, including the cooking team on the other side of the counter. Everyone seemed nice, friendly, and competent. I just wanted a light bite to kill some time until my friend was out of the clinic, so I ordered a side order of scrambled eggs and a side of wheat toast buttered. The eggs were cooked perfectly, scrambled just right, not runny, not hard. The toast was buttered as I had asked, much nicer to have the butter melted in than trying to spread hard butter on toast before it cools. I would definitely return to Broken Yolk and let them break some more yolks for me. Next time I must see how their bacon is. And their hash browns. My bottom line: Great team, great chefs, great meal. There is no such diner as this near my house in LA. read more

The sauce was not flavorful at all. It was thick and bland, if this were to be someone's first experience with EB I can see why they would not like it. My first bite was overwhelmed by the hunk of ham. There should be a pleasant balance between the meat, egg and sauce, honestly. The meat was way too thick. The sauce was lumpy and had separated. Came here for my birthday this week with our family and really enjoyed the whole experience. This is a very open concept with seating inside and out. We were greeted immediately at the front door and got seated right away. Once seated we all got an adult beverage to kick off the day...the server was very on the spot and got us our drinks in a very short amount of time. For breakfast I had the avocado toast with 2 pouches eggs and a side of home fries. Sounds simple but you would be surprised by the amount of people that can't get this right. But the broken yoke nailed it made on perfectly toasted sourdough bread with very fresh ingredients. Everyone absolutely loved their meals and based on the lack of evidence on the plates was a huge compliment to how great the food was. What made it truly great apart from the food was the excellent customer service and experience. They all work as a team here and always checked on for refills or any condiments. A very casual brunch spot but one of my go to favorites nonetheless. As of writing this, I have been to Broken Yolk 2 times and I plan to cum again for a third time. The eggs Benedict were cooked to perfection, and my personal favorite was the caprese Benedict because the tomato went so well with the runny egg yolk and breakfast gravy. The churro French toast was also best I ever had. It wasn't overwhelmingly sweet but it still contained the sensation to satisfy my morning sweet tooth. The biscuits and gravy were also honorable mentions, but I don't think I would recommend that and would say to focus on the Benedicts or waffles which are the real star of the show. Also worth noting, they also had seasonal menu items like the Pumpkin spice pancakes which I did not order, so I would definitely be interested in trying that the next time that I swing by. I still haven't been feeling the best with my nausea so i got something simple...an omelette lol. The menu at this place is truly impressive, with a wide range of creative and delightful options. The service is top-notch as well! However, I've been here twice now and unfortunately, both times my food was either lukewarm or cold. The first time I ordered biscuits and gravy, but it arrived cold. Although the staff were accommodating in reheating it for me, it seemed like they simply microwaved it - not the ideal experience for a biscuits and gravy enthusiast like me. On another occasion, I opted for eggs benedict two ways which also turned out to be lukewarm to cold. Surprisingly enough though, my husband's omelet was piping hot along with the potatoes on my plate; so why were the main dishes not warm? I didn't raise any complaints because I didn't want to wait for them to remake or reheat everything again. But maybe next time I should consider mentioning beforehand that having hot food is important to me? Then again... should customers really have to make such requests? Overall though,I do appreciate this place - its menu offerings are appealing and their service outstanding! Not sure if it's because I'm too picky but I wasn't impressed with the food nor the service I got here. I came in today (Thu at noon) and it wasn't particularly busy but it seemed like there was only one waitress and one hostess. I'm not sure if there was a different waiter in the other section but we got seated at a booth not too far away from the entrance so I couldn't exactly see. For context, I've ordered once from the Broken Yolk before but it was through DoorDash so I wanted to give them a chance by actually dining in for once. Needless to say, we were disappointed in our meals. I ordered the Nutella crepes and made it a combo for an extra $4 which gives you two eggs and a choice of two meats. I went with the sausage and they overcooked those; the ends were dry and harder to bite into. The eggs were sunny side up and those were perfect, kinda hard to mess up eggs though. The crepes were alright but were only really saved by drowning it in syrup. The strawberries and bananas were fresh, at least. My gf had ordered the Cinnaswirl(?) pancakes and she didn't particularly like those either. And she's not too picky with sweeter breakfast items so the fact that she disliked those said a lot. Though we weren't ever rushed, I still was slightly disappointed with the customer service because it felt like our waitress was rarely ever there checking in on us. Again to be fair, I assumed it was because she was too busy waiting on other tables but thing is, she was real quick to charge my card but before I could say anything, she'd quickly leave. After paying, I waited around for her to come back so that I could ask for the takeout box but we had already been waiting around for a while so we just left. I don't know if it's worth it to give them another shot, I think I'd rather just go to The Original Pancake House just down the street from there. Wow... Amazing. Truly nothing like it. Like a lot of Yelpers who have reviewed this establishment, I've dined at other Broken Yolk locations before. While I can say that there's nothing about their food that is to be considered spectacular, they've all been pleasant experiences. That is until I met the Orange location. This is my second time at this location, both times I ordered the chilaquiles because I'm a creature of habit. During my first visit, I ordered them with the verde sauce, which I found to be a little bland. So on my second time around, I chose to go with the red sauce in hopes that it would offer more flavor. Alas, my hopes were in vain. Can I just say that I was impressed by my dish on multiple levels? Because wow. Let's start with the presentation. I ordered these to-go, which I very well understand decreases presentation and effort by at least 15% right off the bat. What I didn't expect was the secondhand depression I was going to get from looking at my meal. Made me think about that movie Sausage Party; my food HAD to be alive because it was radiating a sadness that inanimate objects are incapable of. Almost enough to make me wanna close the container and leave the food with whatever dignity it still maintained. Almost. But I was starving so I ventured on. I analyze my food a little bit more and take a mental note: this looks kinda dry, where's the sauce? Now, why that's important is because there was no sauce. The chips had many bald spots where sauce could've been. So imagine my amazement when I go to stab a tortilla chip, AND IT COMPLETELY FALLS APART. They said it couldn't be done, but Broken Yolk has proven that the unthinkable can be achieved with just a little carelessness. Sauceless soggy chips are possible! Incredible. Alright so soggy chips, while undesirable, can be disregarded. What I love about Broken Yolk is their DIY approach towards the dining experience. The dish comes with chicken, and at first I thought I got jipped. I only saw a morsel of shredded chicken in the corner of my plate, perhaps an example of how the chicken SHOULD look once the customer has finished shredding it themselves. I mean, that's the only explanation that makes sense after I turn over a tortilla chip to see a HUGE, whole chunk of UNshredded chicken. Very daring approach for them. And really I wasn't mad, but my thing is: why stop there? Why not just give me the entire chicken, bones and all? For $18 + tax it's the least I deserve. I mean shit, I'll debone and shred the entire chicken if you knock off a couple dollars for the manual labor that I was gonna have to do anyway. Just brainstorming ideas here. Also love the interactive hiding games they play with your food, and they're really good. Chilaquiles are supposed to come with cilantro and onion. I searched long and hard, and after munching my way through over half the meal, I found a nice little pile of cilantro underneath a chip. Glad I won that round. Could never find the onion though aside from two little diced pieces. Me-1 BYC-1. A worthy opponent. As for the rest, yeah... it wasn't great. Honestly it wasn't even good, just fat as hell (1,600-1,800 calories). The cheese accumulated all in one corner so that was nice for those two corner bites I got. Other than that, it was just... regrettable. I don't expect to get transported to Mexico when I take a bite of their chilaquiles, I mean cmon, it's Broken Yolk. But my mom's chilaquiles growing up were WAY better, and all she used was a can of El Pato and Colby Jack cheese! Literally the laziest approach to the dish ever, somehow beat by this restaurant. Pretty sure they forgot about our order. We're seated at the patio and we're the first to order out of about 4 tables around us and half an hour goes by and everyone got their food except us. The server notices and goes check on our orders. We're a table of 2 vs all the tables around us are larger parties. I guess they prioritize larger orders and don't care about small parties. Then the server came back and said the kitchen said ticket time is ticket time. Not sure what that means but I'm guessing it means that the kitchen has been instructed to only focus on larger orders and not to care about orders with only 1 item. Food finally came out 50min after we put in our order. Too annoyed and irritated to really taste the food so no comment on that. The server was at least apologetic about it. I guess if we come back next time it'll have to be with a larger party because they obviously don't care about smaller parties. Parking is terrible. Their parking lot is definitely not enough for the crowd. And the spaces in the rest of plaza all say "no broken yolk parking". We parked on the street. read more

This is my second time going and had a similar experience the first time but thought I'd give it another chance cause it's close to my house. Took a bite of the sandwich and the first half was decent. Bread a little soggy, but nothing wild. The soup was more like a smooth and thick marinera sauce I used for dipping. Second half I took a bite and bit something hard. Turns out it was a metal shard that was in the sand which. They have amazing food, no doubt about. Their country friend steak is in my top 5 in the north county/Long Beach area. They make their own gravy from their sausage drippings and pieces. Just amazing! And you shouldn't ignore their chilaquiles offering. A little on the spicy side, but it's still very very good! The place is clean, and their booths are ample (some are large) and the tables are not anchored to the floor, so they can be moved around to accommodate the larger members of your party. Where they fall down is in their service. This is one of those places where multiple people are serving your table ... one guy takes the order, someone else delivers the food, and all the while there is someone else servicing the table with water, coffee, and needs/requests. I know this service system is taught in the restaurant schools or is something thing that looks good on paper, who knows ... but it seldom works, and it doesn't work here. Our service was disjointed, with two of our party getting their breakfast, the other two just sat until one more breakfast showed up about 5m later ... and we finally had to call someone over and ask them where our fourth breakfast was ... to which the server snapped his fingers, slapped his forehead and then went and got it. He immediately came back with it, so clearly it was just sitting under the salamander waiting. We asked for an apple juice that didn't hit the table until we all four were well into our meals, and my wife's request for extra gravy never hit the table. And to be clear ... it wasn't the fault of the servers. They were working hard. But I sat there an watched while waiting on my son's plate ... one guy is running around taking orders, depending on someone else to deliver the food, another guy is running around getting water, cokes, coffee, cream, syrup, etc ... and he's not looking to see if the food is delivered either ... and the person delivering the food isn't servicing our table, and we didn't even know who to call over ... so the food wasn't getting served. Why restaurants keep trying to make this system work is beyond me. There is a reason restaurants have been using one waitress at a table with busboy support for the 100 years ... it works. That system has one person responsible for the table, and that one person is worried about the tip coming off that table. If the person is a lousy server, it quickly reveals who the weak link is. And finally, my son and I go into the bathroom to wash our hands before we left ... one sink has ZERO water, they other is just a dribble. Very disappointing. My recommendation is to try the Costa Mesa, Fullerton or Buena Park stores, see if their service is better. This is a 5 star restaurant based on its food.
