Checked this place out with some friends for brunch. There was a short wait time. Since it was hot outside they offered cold water at the hostess stand. That was awesome - it's the little things. Restaurant atmosphere is upbeat, clean, modern and kinda felt like Palm Springs ambience. Food and service is good - I tried an omelette with salsa and pinto beans on the side. Yeah beans! I'm guessing the core menu is kinda geared toward Mexican but not sure. They also offered eggs Benedict and other options. I would recommend and return again soon. read more

Heard so much great reviews, so needless to say I had much expectations for this place. I ordered the chicken waffle, while it was pretty good I felt it needed just another strip of chicken to at least suffice the entire waffle. Our server didn't do much but take our orders down, charged me $2.59 for coffee that was half full and never came back to check if I needed a refill. She slapped the check on our table without a single word. I'll give it another try but I hope I get better service next time. read more

This was our first time at The Broken Yolk. My wife Maria and I found the Border Benedict to be an excellent choice for breakfast, which was recommended by our server, Christina, who was delightful and made our first experience excellent. The food and service was so amazing that we asked to speak with an owner or manager. Mike, one of the business owners, came to our table and spoke with us for awhile and really made us feel welcome. We rarely post to yelp, but I definitely felt this one was warranted. We've always enjoyed Broken Yolk from our days in San Diego and were really excited that this location opened near our house. The owner is always really nice and often made visits to our table to say hi to our kids and see how the meal was going. Today we thought about going to breakfast but with a toddler and an infant, decided that takeout would be easier. I ordered the Machaca and my wife ordered the "No Name" omelet. The avocado used in the omelet was bad and had brown and black spots all over each piece. Called in and spoke with the Manager McKenna Ortega and offered to send her a picture of this avocado. She declined and said that the avocados turn brown in an omelet. I've cut open avocados before and have seen these same brown spots and it's definitely just a bad avocado. The icing on the cake - when I asked to just be given a credit for an omelet on our next visit... She offered to give me credit for just the avocado!! I kindly declined and sarcastically thanked her for her time. What happened to customer service?? What happened to trying to do what's right for customers to enjoy their meal? Imagine that, for the price of 1 omelet, an establishment can lose long time customers. Unbelievable. Very disappointed. read more

We have been waiting for them to open for we always like a good breakfast. My sister ordered the eggs Benedict and her eggs were hard and the sauce wasn't very good. As for me, I ordered the Southern biscuits and gravy with an egg over easy on the hash browns. The biscuits were hard and I only are the tops even though I didn't care for the gravy. The egg was hard like my sister's and we brought to their attention and they said the chefs been having a problem getting the eggs right. I didn't finish and neither did my sister. We had to ask the busboy to get us water for our waiter rarely checked on us and it wasn't busy for we were there around 2. Been there done that and won't be going back. read more

Came here for breakfast with a friend. I ordered the fiesta burrito and loved it. I only ate 1/2 because it was so filling. My sunset mimosa was delicious. Have come here a few times and always have good experiences. Told the wait was about 10-15 minutes and, sure enough, that was about right. Customer service here is always good. Wait staff always comes by to fill my coffee. Family is happy so can't really complain. Does get a little noisy because of the crowds, but I don't really mind. read more

Used to go to the original down in San Diego. Usually we don't eat a lot of breakfast but figured we'd go out today and do so. Surprisingly they weren't too busy at 10am on a Sunday morning. Of course shortly after we arrived it got pretty busy. Receptionist was nice and very accommodating with us and our baby. Our waitress was nice and friendly, there were booths, tables and outdoor tables to choose from and the people(customers) were all very friendly - I think that comes from the local Orange community. Having thought long and hard about this review, I think it is time to offer it. I have eaten breakfast at the Broken Yolk in Orange on a dozen occasions in the recent months. Usually I simply order oatmeal which is a sturdy breakfast and one can hardly go wrong with it. However, for the 8 or so times I have ordered this menu item, it has come out cold or lukewarm at best. I kept on trying to see if it might improve, but such was not the case. This past time, last week, I had the waitperson take the item back and have it nuked. She was most apologetic, but it was certainly not her fault. There is a problem in the kitchen. While being appreciative of the staff, the quality of the food overall is in question. People started out way too harsh on the broken yolk considering it's new. Since they've gotten their stuff together, they're great! I have a 91 year old grandma in a wheelchair and they made it very easy to seat us and were extremely kind in doing so. I ordered the bidder Benedict with my eggs over medium instead, which comes with corn cakes, carne asada, and green sauce on top and potatoes on the side. SOOOO delicious! read more

Thought this place wasn't very good. The food was just ok. But the service was horrible. Our server didn't listen and brought a while bunch of wrong things.. They also had a wait for high chairs :-( the biscuit that came with my meal was the highlight, my omelette wasn't very good. Would not come back due to service, this place is way overhyped. Love this place! Restaurant is clean and inviting, the service was excellent and the food was delicious. I have tried the monte cristo, Ronaldo omelet and fried chicken and waffles. All were great, nice portions. The pecan syrup for the fried chicken and waffles should be illegal it's so good. Gets a bit busy on the weekends, but I've never had to wait more than 15min for a table and they have both indoor and outdoor seating. read more

I came to The Broken Yolk for a holiday party after hours for the company I work for, SureFire CPR. The entire staff was completely attentive, and they took absolute care of all 40+ of us! Everything was all around lovely, from the food, to the service, and setup--we couldn't have asked for a nicer holiday party. Also, can I say how amazing those banana chocolate chip muffins were? This place is just down the street from my house and I do come here on a somewhat regular basis. The food is average to just above average. The reason why I give it 3 stars is purely because of the service. Regardless if I go when it's busy (weekend mornings) or on not so busy days (weekday mornings), the service is always slow and lack luster. read more

This is a pretty solid place, I expected to see a lot more egg dishes given the name, but that wasn't the case. There is plenty of parking available, which is always a plus. Ive tried this place a few times...each time I come the wait gets longer. I was in today for lunch at 12. Me and my co-workers all ordered salads. We didnt receive them til almost 1. Because of this we were forced to pack our food up and eat in the car on the way back to work. When we brought this to the managers attention all he could do was apologize. Not once did he offer to comp anything. .not even our drinks. I know things happen and are out of our control but...never will I go back. This place has a nice atmosphere and was pretty busy on a Saturday morning, but the food was sub par and overpriced in my opinion. I love breakfast joints but I hate it when places cook your eggs in some butter or butter flavored oil. Yuck! My chicken fried steak was beyond fried and my husband's carne asada on his border benedict was overcooked and gristly. I called a week prior to Mother's Day to make a reservation. The lady was friendly an took my reservation along with a phone number. I called today to confirm and see if I could possibly change the time to later. I was then transferred to the manager and he explained "some people were not paying attention and took reservations anyways". He then continued and said "we'll what time so you want?" I was utterly confused since I thought they weren't taking reservations and I explained that. He then continued to tell me I can call an hour prior and see how busy they are. Um. No thank you. It's for Mother's Day and I'm not waiting until the day of to know where we are going. I am very frustrated since they weren't even going to call and inform me of this, so what would have happened if I had my family all show up? It's extremely frustrating and completely unprofessional that the staff is not under the same understanding nor did they make sure prior to making the reservation.
