Parking was easy in the lot behind restaurant. Came in around 9. There was no line and the place did not seem to be too busy. Got seated right away. It seems that this place has been remodeled not long away. It looks fresh with retro touches. Downside was their bathroom that seemed to have been missed in remodel. Soap dispenser didn't really work and faucets only run for a few seconds after you push the handle. :( Hey, but most important of course is food. It is a restaurant after all. We ordered Chicken Fried steak and Cuban sandwich. Tried to order asking about the deal in coupon book for $7.99 lunch combo were were informed that this is just a regular deal and you don't need a coupon. Made me feel a little stupid. Why do you put a coupon for something just available. Chicken Fried steak - came out huge with hash browns and eggs. Steak tasted yummy with crunchy outside. Gravy was OK lacked a little in flavor. Hashbrowns had a potential being really good (flavor was good) but they just were not crispy how we like them. Cuban (surprisingly sold just by itself not even a pickle - if you want fries or anything else you need to order it). It is big and was more than enough. I had to take half home for snack. It was good but not great. Topped it off with Coffee they had on special for $1. Our waitress Kate was super nice and attentive. She refilled our drinks as soon they we were running low and check if we needed anything else. She also gave us a coupon book that has specials for the rest of the year. I have lived here for 15 years and I'm now just discovering the broken yolk Café. The food here is great! My wife had the border Benedict, which is what they're famous for. Plenty of carne asada on top of two poached eggs that rest beautifully on sweet corn cake. The poblano sauce went extremely well with the corn cake. Three brand-new taste sensation for us that will keep us coming back! I had The 27 miles south omelette. Four eggs, chorizo, avocado topped with a yummy salsa... Amazing! The portions are big! This was my first time in the broken yolk, and Oh Boy, I been missing out on the good stuff! USED to be Regulars here but the service has gotten progressively worse over the years, but after the way we were treated this morning we will Not be going back. After a Hostess seated us in the patio with only 1 other occupied table. We watched for over 20 minutes as the patio filled up and one after the other every table was greeted, offered and recieved coffees and waters, and even put in their orders. All while we where being completely ignored. They seated a table of 9 after us who all had coffees and waters while we couldn't even get a hello. The final straw was when a girl was seated next to us who was obviously friends with the staff was immediately greeted, served, and putting in her order. Which made for over 20 orders that will be put in and probably served before I can even request a water. And that was just the customers on the patio. I can't even imagine how many people where helped before us that sat inside. So instead of waiting 2 hours for our food to get cooked, if we ever even get helped. We've been wanting to try this place for a long time and finally did....what a big disappointment. The food is medicore if that. My husband had the biscuits and gravy and they had a terrible taste. I ate here for the first time today, but it won't be my last! Down from LA to have breakfast with my family and had a delicious meal. My sister and I split the breakfast quesadilla and the Wild West burger. Burger was moist, tender and very flavorful. The breakfast quesadilla was yummy, but could be better with a side of sour cream. I think the prices are reasonable for breakfast, considering the level of quality, but again I am from LA and usually pay higher prices for food anyway. We love coming here for breakfast. Ideal for short or small group. Not too great on space but the omelettes make up for squeezing in between tables. Def a must try. Make sure to try their omelette first if it's your first visit here. We made a mistake of ordering their waffle and chicken with a high expectation and came out with a bad taste. San Diego location was amazing. I was really stoked when I heard Broken Yolk was coming to Orange. 1st experience: I got a Border Benedict which in theory looked amazing. "Two poached eggs and seasoned carne asada on top of two sweet corn cakes, smothered in our homemade poblano sauce. Served with homefries, hashbrowns, fresh fruit, beans or Mexican rice." Good, right? The flavors were ok but what made it marginal was that it didn't taste fresh and was not even lukewarm. I can't remember what my husband ordered but the muffin his meal came with had been microwaved and re-microwaved enough times that he couldn't cut it with a butter knife. He was sawing away and when he paused, the indentation in the muffin from the knife rose up and actually filled back in. The server was apologetic and he got a new muffin. We didn't mention the temp or not so freshness of the border Benedict as we chalked it up to the newness of the staff. 2nd experience: we REALLY wanted to like this place, so we came back in hopes the kinks had worked themselves out. I got the Border Benedict again and received the same exact result. This could be a really great dish. My husband ordered a breakfast quesadilla which I believe was between $8-$12. Full size tortillas. The actual ingredients in the quesadilla were probably a total of 1/4 cup (cheese, egg, and some type of meat) This wasn't what you envision when you order a breakfast quesadilla. We still didn't make mention of the border Benedict but did send back his quesadilla. (I try to never be THAT PERSON at a restaurant, but come on, an almost empty quesadilla? He reports that the eggs benedict would rate a 6 on a scale of 1 to 10... Bland but fresh. The hashbrowns were a slightly above room temperature solid mass. I have visited this restaurant 4 times, and every single time, there has been some sort of disappointment. The last visit will be my last. The first time i came here, my friend and i ordered their breakfast burger and it was good, service was good. The second time i came here with my boyfriend and his eggs on his eggs benedict ended up coming out completely cold. We sent them back and they came back lukewarm at best. On the third visit we sat without coffee and water for a good 20 plus minutes after our food was delivered, and the service was terrible, even though we were one of only 4 tables in the entire restaurant on a weekday. The 4th time they seated us in the big room and it was so beyond noisy that my boyfriend and i couldn't even hear each other. The tables are so close together that i ended up getting rammed by the other diner behind me with her chair. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and my hashbrowns well done and when my breakfast came, no well done hashbrowns. I just ordered water because we had our coffee already, they gave me basically a juice glass of water, where all the other diners had larger glasses of water. This wouldn't have been a big deal other than the fact that, again, it went without a refill throughout most of my meal. The only reason we came this visit was because i had a 10 dollar reward with their dining reward program (which i thought was a great idea). Just got home from eating there, may be going to ER soon if this does not subside. Ordered a ham/sausage omelette and about 1/2 through, something "exploded" in my mouth causing me head for the bathroom. 1 hour later, severe stomach cramps, mouth still on fire - this CANNOT be food related!! When I got back to my seat, I explained to the waiter what had happened and all I got was a blank stare - I showed him the 3/4 remainder of my food and told him I would NOT pay for that nor the coffee that I could not drink because my mouth and throat were burning so badly. The manager never came over, nothing. Do not think that I was trying to scam a 1/4 meal for nothing, I am well healed and can afford what I order, this could NOT have been food!! read more
