As an East guy that grew up in Diners, the Broken Yolk could give the best of the best New York diner a run for their money. It was moms home cooking but with a better ambiance. I went the first two days and the staff recognized me from the day before and asked if I was having my usual:) I am ecstatic to have such an amazing restaurant with quality food and service thats so reasonable this close to home. I hope they stay open for dinner so I can watch the sports package morning, noon and night. I thought the ones in San Diego were good but this one takes the cake. I highly recommend the French toast, chicken and waffles and all the omelets. Cant wait for football season, mimosas, eggs and football. Life is good! read more

Came in on Super Bowl Sunday with my wife for breakfast did not have to wait was seated immediately, The waitress was very helpful and friendly cannot remember the blonde haired lady's name . I had Carney Asada with eggs Benedict very good and very filling the wife had eggs Benedict with avocado she finished everything. Little pricey but you get a lot of food. We ate there this past Sunday and waited 1/2 hour for our table. Then, it took 10 minutes just to get water & coffee. Finally placed our order and that took another 20+ minutes to get. Worst part was the 5 of us didn't have place settings even after asking 3 times for them. Once the food was delivered a few minutes later we were asked how our food was. Worse than Denny's. if you are happy with Denny's, you may be content with this place. Came in for the first time yesterday for a family breakfast. There were just 5 customers at the time bit it still took 10 minutes for the server to take our order. Throughout our breakfast experience, the server never once made it back to our table on her own accord. We had to ask random employees to find our server for us. Strike one. Ordered the strawberry waffles, stuffed French toast, and eggs florentine. The waffles tasted like it came from a supermarket box of waffle mix. The stuffed French toast wasn't actually stuff but really a sandwich. A little glob of plain mascarpone cheese with three thin slices of banana in between two slices of bread. Basically an adventure in blandness. Strike two. The only saving grace was the eggs florentine. That was actually very good. The poach on it was nearly perfect with a very nice soft cooked yolk. The spinach was a generous portion that tasted fresh and was wilted just right. The hollandaise sauce was somewhat gritty but acceptable. Prices are quite high. Just for comparison, the IHOP stuffed french toast combo which comes with eggs, potatoes, and bacon is about $8. The cost of the stuffed french toast at Broken Yolk is much higher at $11 for just the waffles. You can't even get it in a "combo". You have to buy the eggs, bacon, and potatoes a la carte. Strike three! Overall, the quality of the food and the level of service were not commensurate with the prices. read more

A friend told me about the Broken Yolk in Orange. It was very busy and there was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. The food was excellent, and the asst. manager, JR and his staff, realized that everyone was getting irritated and upset so they really stepped up and made everyone as comfortable as possible. I run company with 50+ employees and hope that all of them had the customer service, tact, and professionalism that JR and his staff displayed today under pressure without bring asked. We hadn't been in for a several months, and it's really gone downhill. We both ordered the Golden State Benedict. We were served in less time than it takes to cook the eggs. The hash browns were cold and hard (not crispy), obviously cooked an hour or more previously. Same with the muffin, toasted earlier and sitting around. The poached eggs were cold. The kitchen seems to operate like an assembly line, putting plates together with previously cooked food. I sent mine back and it came back a few minutes later. Worst breakfast I've had. And extremely overpriced I came here on a Friday morning excited to try this out since my girlfriend always talks about it. My favorite meal of the day is breakfast so I was excited to see what it was about we got there we got seated pretty promptly our waiter was nice he took our drink order and then told us he would give us a couple of minutes. My boyfriend order they're all American breakfast which comes with need eggs hatch hash browns and toast I ordered one of their own lives I think it was the 27th and 22 Mile they came with house potatoes and a biscuit we also ordered two kids meals for the kids. Our food came out and it looked nice but when I went to eat some of the house potatoes they were cold the play was hot but the potatoes were cool and a bit raw as if they weren't cooked all the way my eggs are my omelette was lukewarm and only the toppings and side were really hot I try to eat it but I really could not eat the potatoes because they seem raw. I let my way to know that my potatoes for a cold and probably not cooked all the way and he asked me if I wanted them to get reheated I said okay heat transfer my omelette to a different plate and took the potatoes brought them back and it just seem like they stuck them in a microwave not actually recook them I was extremely hungry so I just started eating my meal the best part of my meal was the biscuit that seem to be straight out of the oven which I really liked it also came with a honey flavored butter that was amazing. As we were eating I ask my boyfriend how his breakfast was he looked at me and said it was probably the worst breakfast I had ever take him to and asked me who told me about this place. He's never said that to me he always ask what new place we're going out to eat or what type of food are we trying out next so this was an extreme disappointment. We finally got the check and it was around $60 which is one of the price your breakfast as we've had and we eat breakfast out every weekend we tried a new location almost every weekend usually is between 40 to around 50 which is fine with us but I just seen this food was it worth it will not be coming back. read more

This place has really disappointed me in different ways. One thing my hashbrown was cold and basically my food was not freshly out hot from the kitchen it was all cold. They took 40 minutes to get our food to our table. I was so mad that a i literally wanted to leave. The only reason i stayed was because people recommended me this place but other then that i wouldn't stayed. It was just the waiting and all that. The people that came after us got their food first which i thought that was pretty much not fair. My friend and I were here first then them. So far my visit there was dissatisfied. This was our 1st time here. Have heard from several people that the food is good. It was really busy, as to be expected on a sunday around 11:30. When we walked up to the door the first thing we noticed wad the obnoxiously loud music playing. We waited about 15 minutes or so to be seated. When we sat down I noticed that the table was dirty and there was no silverware. Advised the hostess & a busser came & cleaned it right away. He then brought us waters as we perused the menu. It took at least 10 minutes for the server to come to our table. No one came during our wait to see if we wanted anything other than water to drink. I got a No Name Omelet and my bf got biscuits & gravy. I also asked for some of the poblano green sauce. My omelet was ok then when I topped it with the green sauce it was really good. I just wish it had cheese, jack cheese would have made it really yummy. I tried my bf's biscuits & gravy, the gravy was really salty and tasted like it was a bottled or packaged item, not scratch made in house. Also, not enough gravy for how big the biscuit was. The biscuit was good, nice and light & fluffy. Portions are pretty large, I had to take half my omelet home. It was nice that they had flavored creamer as well as half & half for my coffee too. I must say it was exceptionally loud inside the dining room but I'm glad that obnoxious music that they had playing outside wasn't playing inside! When we left the manager and 2 hostesses were standing at the hostess stand talking and not a one said a word to us as we walked out. Pretty surprising that they ignored customers. read more

The food is hearty, classic fare and really hits the spot. With that said, you will be doing A LOT of waiting. We arrived at 11:30 on a Sunday with a party of 3. We were seated at noon and food didn't arrive until 12:40. That's definitely a negative in my book. Eggs really shouldn't take so long to cook. Service is friendly, which is nice. Prices are so-so. I think the beverages are way too expensive. The small glass of orange juice is probably 6 oz (around $3.50), so we ordered the half carafe (around $6.50) which gets you 3 small cups. We ended up having to order a second half carafe of orange juice. $13 on beverages for two people is kind of insane. It was decent orange juice, but it wasn't mind blowing. The kids menu is also on the insane side. Everything is $6.50 and is a small entree with a drink. We generally just add a pancake to one of our meals since our child is 2. It makes no sense to order her an entree that could probably feed a 10-12 year old. I wish they had mini kids meals. With that said, I feel that the pricing on the adult entrees is perfect (around $8-$12) and the portions are decently sized. I had the eggs benedict which was spot on. The hubby had the mile high omelette. He was a fan of it, I wasn't. The veggie filling is on the rawer side. I usually prefer it more cooked when in an omelette. One thing they do really well is taking care of kids. They give you a table liner which is super useful for 1-2 year olds. The kids also get a pack of crayons and a coloring sheet. I'm a big fan of that. I also feel like this restaurant is cleaner and less sticky than most breakfast places. I would give it 3.5 stars if I could, but since I have to pick. Gross food, horrible service, dirty dishes. I'm a former regular and my family used to eat here once a week. I don't know how the food and service went so downhill. On a recent visit, my drink arrived with lipstick on the cup, our order was wrong, the staff never checked on us, we didn't have enough place settings and since they never came back we took some flatware from another table, then we were low on drinks and since they never checked on us and I didn't want to leave my toddler in a high chair unattended I called the restaurant from my phone to ask if we could please have coffee refills. The hash browns were so salty they were inedible. The scrambled eggs had burned bits of cilantro and other food stuck to the bottom of them (meaning they never clean their cooking surface). It was just gross. I love their other locations and was excited to have a Broken Yolk close to home, but I've given them a fair amount of chances and will not be returning. read more

Got here on a busy Sunday am. Wait was like ten mins. Service was great. Madison was super nice. Food... Well according to the hubby Norms is better. He ordered the Huevos Rancheros and the tortilla under the eggs was under cooked. There was no hot sauce. Everything they had was too mild for us, even the side of jalapeños. The kids had the pancakes, and they were bland. Woulda been better if they used buttermilk for the batter. One of the kids got a side egg, sunny side up..was mire runny side up. Went in for lunch today . My waitress's name was Kate whom was completely awesome! I ordered the "No Name omelette" which came with house potatoes and sourdough bread. I also ordered the Tiki Toast which is actually three thick slices of sweet Hawaiian bread (like French toast). The omelette was HUGE and very tasty . Great portion to split with someone else. The Tiki Toast was also good , but due to the thickness a bit dry. Of course you can drench it in syrup to solve that problem. So my food took about 10 minutes for it to come out, which I was nicely surprised and as I stated above , my waitress was awesome. Great customer service , brought me coffee refills , water , asked how I was doing , SMILED and made me feel very welcomed. Thank you Kate. The waitress was great. Very attentive and professional. We were incredibly disappointed with the amount of laziness from the cook. The Eggs Benedict was not toasted the potatoes were not crispy at all. After the waitress ( being attentive) noticed we were less than satisfied asked how we were doing, we then told her the English muffins on both of our meals were raw. She then told him to toast us replacements. When she brought them out they were toasted on one side and raw on the back. Service, great. Food has potential but not with a lazy cook. I will not return to this place. The Eggs Benedict and a cup of coffee was $16.61. I tipped her for her service and I am now out $21.61 and incredibly disappointed. read more

The restaurant is clean and the service is efficient, but the food leaves much to be desired both in flavor and price. His time, My wife ordered a machaca burrito that had almost no machaca in it. I had street breakfast tacos that came with an order of two with rice and beans for almost $12. That seems overpriced to me. My boyfriend and I walked in a bit after they were supposed to close, which was at 3pm. Upon entering, we were not greeted promptly and had to wait a couple minutes to be seated. Although we had walked in a few minutes after closing hours, this does not excuse the poor customer service, terrible presentation, and overall quality of the food. I had ordered the "new" chicken and waffles with a frozen strawberry lemonade while my boyfriend had ordered the triple dip lunch special with plain water. As we were waiting for our food, I could not help but notice how dirty and sticky our tables were and how we were not promptly given utensils.. Finally, our food had arrived. I got two little pieces of overcooked, and not to mention BLAND chicken with a huge waffle underneath it.. All over-coated with powdered sugar. I also got my drink, which was just plain lemonade when I had clearly ordered strawberry. The frozen lemonade tasted way too sour and was mostly watered down. As I was eating my food, I was so displeased with the the taste that I had to force myself to down my food; as I do not enjoy sending things back and wasting it. The waffle was OK, but honestly, how the hell can you mess up a waffle? My boyfriends triple dip lunch special just looked like it was frozen fried food, and tasted like it as well. Honestly, I preferred eating that over my rubbery, under seasoned, tiny chicken pieces with an oversized, nothing-special-about-it waffle.. The waitress came by and just dropped off our check without saying a word when we were clearly not even half way done with our food. Mind you, we were not the only customers inside the restaraunt. Rude. She came back a bit afterwards to ask how our "food" was doing, clearly seeing the disdain on my face. I just nodded my head quickly when my boyfriend plainly said "It's OK..." She shrugged us off and walked away. Finally, I told my boyfriend to just pay for this food and get the hell out of here. She gathered our check quickly and provided a receipt with a plain, and fake sounding "Thank you". The price was around a whopping almost $30.00 for poorly made food! This experience was so terrible, I wish I could give this restaraunt no stars at all. It's over priced, basic breakfast foods that cannot even be cooked correctly. Don't bother coming. Service was slow, they forgot a whole entrée but after the rest of the party had halfway eaten their food... There were empty seats but a huge wait outside... the food was good to an extent. the hash browns were amazing according to my companions. And the French Toast was on the pricey side considering it was almost 9 dollars for the 8 piece french toast without any sides which you order extra. The alcoholic drinks were strong considering the venue ordered the sunset mimosas and it was mostly champagne in a large glass at 6 dollars it was worth it. And then the bill came and they had forgotten the toast for the omelette combo.
