I ordered the snow crab basket with cajun seasoning and garlic butter. I'm not sure how they put on their cajun seasoning, but I couldn't even get it off my fingers let alone on the crab itself. The garlic butter was also a bit of a disappointment. Wouldn't order the basket here again. The other people I was with had decent looking meals, but again, the portion sizes were just way too small for the price and the quality. This spot is my jam! If I have a reason to go to Red Hook I make it a point to stop by here. The staff is generally friendly, sometimes even with reservations there's a wait. And sometimes the host doesn't pay attention to you for a little while which can be annoying. I'm not by any means a fan of their bloody mary, but their other drinks like the tea are sooo good. Situated in the Red Hook area of Brooklyn rests this awesome spot filled with tons of games (Cornhole, mini golf, etc.) and three floors of outdoor seating. You truly feel like you're on vacation. We walked over here after an afternoon of wine tasting at the Red Hook Winery and enjoyed some cocktails and seafood. It was the perfect fall weather so it was super crowded, however we only waited about 15-20 minutes for a table. I had the shrimp basket and we split the lobster Mac and cheese, both of which were very yummy. The ambiance is incredible on a nice day. The only two minor down sides were that drinks were a little pricey (I'm very rarely in Brooklyn so these may very well be normal Brooklyn prices). The bathroom situation also isn't the greatest, as there's either port-o-potties on the first floor or two tiny individual stalls on the second floor which generated a pretty long line. Food: I ordered the snow crab legs ($34) and my friend ordered the Dungeness crab legs ($39). Both seasoned with Old Bay and came with coleslaw, 2 pieces of corn and melted butter. Good portion size. I was definitely hesitant about even stepping a foot in here after reading some of the reviews. I searched to see what the best thing to try here was but it really wasn't helpful since everyone had a different opinion. Needless to say I came here with a group of 9 at 6:30 pm on a Friday (we made a reservation). We were seated immediately and our waiter Matthew came over immediately. He was really friendly and answered any and every question we had. I ended up ordering the spicy fried shrimp basket with fries and a side of honey. Note: it doesn't actually come with honey Matthew is just that dope. My food was actually bomb I have no complaints about the seasoning on the shrimp or the fries. My coworkers seemed to enjoy their food as well as they didn't have any major complaints. My only issue now is the dirty bathroom, I'm sorry I know it isn't their fault but bathrooms need to be checked ever so often for cleanliness. You'll be able to stroll up to the top deck past all manner of maritime knickknacks and distressed wood decor (that make this seem like an institution, rather than the fairly new establishment that it is), choose any booth you'd like and order away. We went with the day's oysters on special from somewhere off the coast of Virginia, and a basket of fried shrimp. Although the oysters looked awful (I'm not sure if it's the shucker's fault or simply the breed), they were fresh and briny and just about perfect. The shrimp were excellent as well, and actually a better portion for the price than I was expecting (I believe eight sizable shrimp). I can certainly understand if long waits for seats and/or food piss people off, but from what I can tell, there's nothing wrong with the food, and you can't beat the view. And there's mini golf, and no one should ever be mad about mini golf. Head over during off hours, and enjoy. read more

Some friends and I ended up here after other options were nixed due to the first warmish day (40s) in weeks brought out all of the people suffering from cabin fever. The place lost in the under hook of Red Hook looks nice and may be a cool place to hang in the Summer. As it is Winter, it was not too crowded - which was a good thing. The place gets 3 stars as the atmosphere was nice and was conducive to my friends and I chatting and enjoying ourselves. The food does need some improvements especially at the prices they charge. We did not drink, and the sodas were non carbonated and syrupy. The appetizers (we had shrimp and calamari), was okay, but not especially spectacular. Most of us had the fried catfish platter which was nicely seasoned, but the mashed potatoes and collard greens could have had a bit more flavor (garlic?) mixed in. My fried had the codfish which she enjoyed. The jalapeno cornbread left something to be desired. Besides the jalapeno throwing off the flavor of the cornbread, it was hard and mostly inedible. Beware of spoiled seafood at Brooklyn Crab. We were served several orders of spoiled seafood. The shrimp dish was not fresh. The mussel dish was not fresh and smelt bad. We were served grayish green colored, spoiled Dungeness crab- it was definitely spoiled because it smelled like ammonia. I put a small piece in my mouth but once i smelled and tasted it was rotten, I immediately spat it out. Ammonia in seafood is caused by the chemical breakdown of the bacteria on dead fish and seafood tissue. If spoiled seafood is ingested, it can cause severe food poisoning. There are people who bring their children here- imagine if they get poisoned from this rotten food?? We told the manager and he said "i never heard of seafood tasting like ammonia" - which is absurd because if you manage a seafood restaurant you should know that rotting fish smell and know that it causes food poisoning if eaten!!! We asked the manager to remove all the spoiled dishes off of our tab and he did. Our server was really apologetic and professional. However, I would never come back here again and risk my health and safety. Upon leaving we saw that the table next to us had greenish-gray colored lobster meat. I assume their order was rotten too! I am honestly shocked that establishments like this can stay in business serving people rotten food. Serving rotten poisonous food to patrons should be illegal. The restrooms are also filthy. The NY Department of Health needs to come inspect this place immediately. read more

We were visiting a friend in Brooklyn when she decided to take us to Brooklyn crab. The outside is extremely eclectic, and definitely looks out of place in Brooklyn. It reminds me of something you'd find in South Carolina or Florida. There's an outdoor bar, some outdoor games (cornhole, etc), and then an inside and upstairs with retractable windows. This place was poppin for a Sunday afternoon! We were a party of 6, and the service was pretty smooth. They have a ton of communal hot sauces, and a big roll of paper towels for you on the table. I ordered the fried shrimp, my boyfriend had the blue crab roll, and we split the jalapeño corn bread. Being from Monmouth County, NJ, we eat seafood often in the summer, and I have to say, the fried shrimp was probably the best I've had in a long time, my boyfriend agreed. The fries were delicious, the corn bread was different and tasty. His blue crab roll was overflowing with meet. Everyone at our table seemed to like their orders as well. Overall, when we split the check, for 2 entrees, a side and two drinks it came to $85 per couple. Being in New York it seemed pretty reasonable to me! A 2.5 star average? What gives, Yelp? In all honesty, it took me a while to get around to checking out BK Crab because of all the meh reviews. But I finally made it out to this bar/seafood joint by the water and found myself really digging it. Firstly, BK Crab does not feel very Brooklyn or NYC at all. Maybe it was the random rainy weekday effect- but the crowd was super laid back, the vibe very casual (almost beach town casual). All the sea paraphernalia and the location by the water reminded me of another seafood bar/resto out in Montauk. BK Crab scores more brownie points with its ALL DAY $2 Narragansets and $1 oysters on Mondays and Tuesdays. I didn't wind up sampling much of their food menu- but the crab bites (deep fried balls of crabmeat) were pretty good- only lightly battered, the tasty lumps of crabmeat inside were not overpowered by the batter/breading. Came here early enough to score a seat at the bar overlooking the water (and the giant Fairway). I love how the wooden windows open up at an angle- adds a boat-like quality to that space? My wife and I went a little later in the evening this past spring, and while the restaurant was busy, the volume alone didn't seem to account for the service chaos (lot's of runners all over the place auctioning off food, often to the wrong tables). That said, while we had to wait a while for everything, the basics (water glass filled) were mostly taken care of. In terms of food, the mussels appetizer gives a good quantity for the money, but is also a pretty standard, forgettable preparation. Naturally, the main event is steamed crab legs, which are definitely done well, if also in forgettable fashion. We got there at open around 11:30 am. We were lucky to get a table outside with a view of the water. There is a lot of outdoor seating. We were surrounded by other diners by 12:00. Ok so first, the drink menu. Mojjto, frozen margaritas, pina coladas. All those types that will make you feel like you're on an island. The pina colada was so delicious. Others ordered beer buckets for the table, 5 beers that are brought to the table submerged in an ice filled tin bucket. The food! I had the blue crab roll which was $24. It was small for the price but I didn't expect cheap because we're in NY. Others had the king crab roll, lobster, and a brave soul at our table got the full steamer bowl for $50 or $60 which has a variety of fish. It came with a mallet and bib, just like in Maine. The crab rolls come with a side of wavy potato chips. The fries that we ordered on the side were very good. After drinks we went to the lower level where there is cornhole and another bar.
