Based on reviews I decided to give this establishment a try. Walking distance from my hotel and along the road with every other reviewed establishment. Brother Jon's was a great choice for dinner. There were several entrees that appealed to me but what's the saying "when in Rome" I chose the Caesar with blackened salmon salad. It was excellent as was the Diablo Rojo beer. Service is sporadic here and the kitchen is excruciatingly slow. I've dined at this location twice now and both times it took about 30 minutes after ordering for a club sandwich. Say what??!! And my friend's salad (which, in all fairness, included steak) took closer to 40 minutes. Yikes! Kinda sucked that three of us got our sandwiches 10 minutes before the birthday girl received her salad. Not cool! They have some serious kitchen logistics to work out at Brother Jon's. Once we finally got our food it was good. Not sure if it was "wait for 40 minutes" good, but it was decent. Their portions are crazy huge so you leave Brother Jon's still hungry you may be in need of an intervention. Additionally, I could never "catch" our server to order a drink (she just kept running past our table, spouting out, "Just a few more minutes, Ladies!") and not really making contact with us. I was disappointed to be in a pub but unable to get a pint. So if you enjoy sitting in a pub and waiting and waiting and waiting, without a drink or hope that you'll ever see one, check this place out ASAP! Having enjoyed more than a few meals with friends at the other Brother Jon's location we were eager to try out the Alehouse version last Sunday. We thought we'd won the lottery when we popped into the alehouse and found it only mildly busy. Selecting a tall table, we settled in for a few to check things out. By the look of things the decor has not changed much since the Decoy moved out -- the only thing missing seems to be the ducks ... and maybe their excellent service, and sad to say the over-the-top food flavors. It's weird but the last time I was at this bar I didn't notice how tipsy the joint is. Seriously. Just take a seat at any of the tall tables and you'll feel like you're sitting in a fun house, the entire floor seems to slope at a rather interesting degree causing everything to be off center more than just a little bit. But maybe feeling a little tipsy is appropriate now that Bro Jon's has moved in ... at least then maybe you won't be bothered by the less than stellar service or the confused food items coming out of the kitchen. Here's the run down: We sat for more than several minutes reading the menus, waiting for someone to greet us and/or take our drink order. But finally the waitress did show up, and we eventually got our drinks. Good house wine, great beer. The wait for her to collect our food order didn't take quite as long, so we settled in to enjoy a little down time at the inclined bar. And we drank our drinks ... slowly and right down to very last drop, and our waitress didn't come by once to check to see how we were or to tell us the food would be out, or for that matter, to slap us up side the head. So, we waited. Then it happened ... on her way to somewhere more important she happened to noticed we had been left high and dry, and she generously brought us a couple more drinks ... still no food. So, by and by the food did arrive, and I'm horrified to tell you how disappointing it was. Get this: We ordered two things to share. 1) Pan-Fried Pork Schnitzel Sandwich and keeping with the theme 2) perogies. The schnitzel sandwich's description seemed correct based on what we know about schnitzel (one of us comes from a Polish background): Breaded Pork cutlets served on a Dilusso Bakery sesame seed bun w/ green leaf lettuce, tomato, onion and dijonnaise. So, okay. But when it arrived, it was ... and I swear to you this is true ... a slab of pork cooked in a pan, plopped on a bun. It was not pounded like it's supposed to be and/or breaded like it needs to be. Just a slab of pork, nothing special. No schnitzel nowhere's. The perogies tasted straight out of the Costco frozen foods section, pan fried and tasteless. They were served with a German sausage of some sort, which I am told was a complete insult to the Polish version that was supposed to be there. What can I say. The sausage tasted good to me, especially when combined with the teeny-tiny portion of sauerkraut that accompanied the dish. But honestly if I hadn't have been so hungry I probably would have passed up the entire dish. Five stars for the food. I had the beer battered fish and chips, and it was wonderful. The portions were generous, and the fish was cooked just right. The atmosphere was that of a typical bar on a Friday night. It was noisy, with great conversation and some college football in the background. My complaint stems from the service. We went last night (Friday 3/23) and the waitress was extremely rude. She was not enthusiastice, and when we asked if we could have our bill split, she was less than accommodating in her reaction. I LOVE this place. We accidentally discovered it years ago on a trip to Bend. And now every trip to that area required a dinner at Brother Johns. Their mac and cheese with buffalo chicken has gone slightly downhill, however, slightly downhill from the most mind-blowing and amazing mac and cheese ever still makes it pretty amazing. But it doesn't end there, all the food is pretty amazing. Environment is fun, energetic but laid back. The wait staff are nice. But chronically in need of clothes. One of the waitresses was dressed in basically along pajama shirt. No pants underneath, no tights, no belt. Just a long baggy black t-shirt. With a hole in one armpit. Where do I start...this place did NOT come up in searches and Bend is FILLED with great restaurants...but WOW!!!!! The service....especially from Jamie and Korie was INCREDIBLE!!! The cocktails were amazing...thanks to Jessie!!!! They even made a cocktail specifically for us and played our favorite song within minutes! The steak salad...the ribs...the pretzel...the steak...ALL of it was amazing and we are NYC Los Angeles food snobs! How is this place not number 1 in Bend?!?!? So happy we found Brother Jon's Alehouse!!! We've been searching for a restaurant with great food since we moved to Bend. Thankfully, Alehouse absolutely fit the bill for my husband and me. The Mr. had the pulled pork sandwich with cheddar cheese and a side of cole slaw. The pork was incredibly tender on a soft buttery bun and we love that the slaw was on the side, not on the sandwich. I had the steak salad and I can say this was the BEST steak salad I've had in town to date! The beef was tender and lean, there was a hard boiled egg along with cukes and tomatoes, topped with fried onion strings and blue cheese crumbles. The honey mustard dressing was so delicious I had to ask for an extra side of it. Great selection of local brews and wine specials, too. We'll become regulars of this restaurant for sure! Staff is nice. Sam was great. I heard a few folks say the food was good. So why the bad review. The door says they close at 10:00 PM on Sunday, and so does Google Maps. The staff locked the doors at 9:00 PM, causing confusion and quick exit of a large group, and for us to quickly close are tab. The reason they gave, it has been slow all day. When the doors were locked, there were 31 people in the restaurant some just ordered food. As a frequent traveler, it's never ok to close before posted hours unless for weather or other type of emergencies. read more

Great beer selection! I went with what a lot of the Yelp quick tippers were saying and went with the cuban sandwich. Lets just say that I have been pretty much eating a strict diet since January and this sandwich had me drooling just by reading the description. I would highly recommend the cuban along with anything else. My friend lives in Bend and said you cannot go wrong here. Nobody at our table was dissatisfied with their meals. I do however wish that restaurants would change it from chips and salsa to salsa and chips...either that or equal out the rations a little bit. Amazing perfectly cooked food. So flavorful. I had the bangers and mash fantastic mustard. Delish string beans and broccoli lightly steamed amd seasoned in oil. Semi sour mashed potatoes, top notch mustard, everything went so well together. I paired it with the bone yard bone light local blonde ale. Goat cheese fritter app was interesting, comes with three really rich fritters and an accompanying salad. Some of the best food and beer I've had since coming to Oregon. This was my first stop in Bend so I am looking forward to eating in this town more. The waitress was very nice, my husband got the fish and chips and our friend the Reuben. I'm giving it 2 stars because the food was good, but maybe the worst late night experience in Bend, which is saying a lot. We got there at 9:50 when the kitchen closes at 10, and they were super aggravated about us wanting to order food on Memorial Day weekend. We ordered food and although there were a few people in the bar we knew this pack of glaring girls wanted us to leave. When our server started aggressively sweeping right next to our table at 10:10, just as we were getting our food, we knew it was time to cut our losses and bounce. I probable wouldn't be so grumpy if they were able to sweep any of the empty tables around us but whatever. Either way, even though I live so close, I would never go back thanks to a swarm of rude women. read more

I have eaten here a few times and decided to post a review. We ordered a few light beers nothing special. For lunch I had the Brother Johns Burger which was very good but the one problem was my fries where just warm when the waitress brought them out so I had to return them. She was very nice about it and said she completely understood. The crapy part was by the time I was almost finished my burger the hot fries came out. My boyfriend had the Black Peppered Steak sandwich and he felt they diced up the meat to small but the bread was very good. I did see a lot of other people getting the salsa and chips so it must be a popular dish. Will have to try it next time we go back. read more

So the food was a lot better than I was expecting after seeing the interior and getting our first interactions with our waitress. We were a few minutes pre-5pm and she wouldn't tell us what the specials were because they "weren't set". I get it, but after ordering we see them write up "Prime Rib" as the special.... and that's been cooking for hours. If she had said something they would've sold two extra helpings of Prime Rib rather than a couple of sandwiches. :) Beer selection was pretty good. Nice to have some other non-Bend choices. Best looking full bar we've seen so far in town (disregarding the spiffy fancy bar places mind you). Maybe you come here to drink heavily, not eat. I wouldn't scream and cry if someone wanted to go there again but I sure wouldn't be overly excited. And while our waitress was average I must say that the male server working at the same time was on point. He even offered to help us on a few occasions when our gal was missing.
