If I could give 6 out of 5 stars I would! I love my Brother's...those milkshakes could rival any ice cream place in Chicago (show me one better and I'll give you 5 bucks). The menu is soo long, I try something new every time I roll in there. Oh, did I mention hangover breakfast with a milkshake delivered to your front door?!? Reuben, fries, burgers, and tacos in the late afternoon?!? It's a small diner, and for some tragic reason it always seems empty, but Brother's never disappoints. It's a great grab and go, sit and decompress, or stop by for a milkshake kind of place. Seriously, try the milkshakes. To be honest, I ordered delivery from Brother's because my dog had the flu. Yes, seriously. My vet suggested I pick her up some chicken noodle soup but I had nothing in the house, we live smack in the middle of a food desert, yada yada yada... and also it was cold out, okay? I know, I'm a terrible dog mom -- BUT I am great at ordering food on the internet, so here we are. Brother's was one of the only places around with a no-bells-and-whistles, fairly average sounding chicken noodle soup on the menu. In my opinion, putting mom's chicken noodle on a menu should pretty much guarantee Brother's a good amount of business through a Chicago winter, but if it doesn't -- it definitely should. Feeling stuffy? Know someone that is? Is your dog constantly sneezing and slowly driving you insane? Get some soup from Brother's, people. Stat. The soup was exactly what I'd want to curl up with on a cold winter night. "Delivery soup" usually tends to consist of broth and a few stray carrots, but we were pleasantly surprised by the great balance of chicken, noodles, broth, and vegetables. I literally felt like my grandma had spent all day in the kitchen. Nice work, Brother's! Thank your grandma for me. For myself, I ordered French Toast (w/strawberries). To be honest, I'm not a huge French Toast Fan, but I'm a vegetarian so breakfast at Brother's seemed like the best fit. Also, there wasn't an option for whipped cream (can a girl get some whip?), but the French Toast itself was a solid 10. The Gyro Plate was... Gyro-y. Pretty standard for the city and served with a good amount of fries. Given the rest of our order I wish we'd gone out on a limb and tried something different, but for the first order at a new place it was solid. We also ordered the 1 lb. Tenders with Fries because when I heard that Brother's made their own chicken tenders I almost cried a little. Seriously?! Homemade chicken tenders?! In 2017?! Yes, folks. It's true. I'd tell you more about how great they were, but you should really just go try them for yourself. In all, the food was good, tipping toward "pretty great" on our scale. Also, it should be noted that all of this food showed up at my house almost too hot to eat. In a world of half-congealed cheese and sticky rice -- they're basically delivery miracle workers. Have you ever wondered if it's even possible to order eggs for delivery? I have. And with Brother's, it actually seems possible. We ordered delivery from Brother's so my review is for the food only, but I'll give this review a quick update if I manage to stop in and see the place in person. We're definitely looking forward to trying a few more dishes on the menu. read more

Wanted to get a cheap breakfast with the bf this morning. Brother's hit the stop. Their menu is huge, like many Chicago diners, and you can get breakfast lunch and dinner at any time of day. It was so tempting to get a burger at 8am. But I was responsible! I got an omelet with egg whites ($1.25 surcharge) and fruit instead of hash browns (another $1.50 surcharge). The surcharges really sucked, but the meal was tasty. Our waiter constantly refilled our coffee and we had a good experience. We just moved to the area and found this place to be just what we were looking for: a basic diner for brunch/breakfast. Service was friendly and checked in to see if we needed refills or anything often. I got the veggie skillet and my husband got an omelet and our son got the pizza puff lunch. If you live in Avondale and aren't coming here, you're making a mistake. Good food, fast and friendly service, cozy location. Came here for breakfast, was served quickly, and the food was great (and super cheap- only spent about $10/person). Byob, a major plus. Bring your own beer, buy some OJ and you've got beermosas. I ordered fruit salad instead of hash browns. At most places a "fruit salad" is melon, honeydew, and a grape or two. Not at Brother's! I got apples, pineapples, grapes, melon, and strawberry. Very pleased. Seriously, just check this place out. And if you're too lazy on a Sunday morning, they have great delivery service. read more

So if i could give it zero stars i would. Just horrible! We walked in and it instantly felt like a smoking room/bar. The heat was dry and in your face. The waitress finally came to our table and it was more than obvious she just smoked a cigarette or the whole box. By then i was ready to go. I thought everything was over priced. They wanted nearly $3 for hot chocolate which i was pretty sure going to be hot water with a package of swiss miss. My boyfriend ordered an orange juice. When the orange juice came it was the child size bottles of tropicana with a childrens cup. I orderded an omlete with sausage, the sausage was beyond pale and looked under cooked. I was almost tempted to give this place a three, but I love 'em so much I couldn't do it. So they get a sort of conditional 4. The folks working here are really friendly, but service can definitely be a liiiittle on the slow side. I usually order take-out rather than eating in. Picking up is a better bet than delivery, in my experience, but you can easily do either via Grubhub or by calling them. I have eaten in before but don't generally see a reason to do so. My HOT TIP on the place: FALAFEL TACOS. They're awesome! I'm fully obsessed with these things and cannot stop ordering and eating them. Especially if you're vegetarian, they're a great option, but they probably work for just about anybody. Yummm. The cheese quesadilla isn't phenomenal but it certainly does what it's meant to do (ie, it acts as a cheese delivery mechanism without being too rubbery or burnt or anything). Those are my usual order here. The breakfast stuff is OK. No real complaints there. It's all been fine. Not what brings me back on the reg, but if you have a hankering for breakfast and the place is close I see no reason NOT to go here. Just no compelling reason to pick them over anyplace else. Falafel tacos, though. Damn! Falafel burritos are awesome too but I dig the taco thing more for whatever reason. The milkshakes are also fuckin' baller. The blueberry one is super good. So are the rest, honestly, but the blueberry stands out to me as a slightly unusual milkshake flavor (as opposed to strawberry, vanilla, chocolate - which they have and do nicely) pulled off well. Any time I visit Chicago, I need to visit Brothers. They have incredible skillets! The place is unassuming. In fact, it appears to be your typical diner. There's no frills here, folks. I decided to check this place out for lunch and was very pleasantly surprised! It doesn't look like much from the outside (or the inside to be honest), but the food and the service were great. My gf and I walked in and easily found a booth at 10:30a on a Saturday morning. Service was friendly, fast, and plenty of top-ups.
