Got to Aspen in the early evening, tired and hungry. Didn't really feel like going out to eat or picking anything up so we were on the hunt for food that could be delivered; there was a local restaurant magazine at our Airbnb that stated that Brunelleschi's offers delivery. So I call and ask the guy who answers the phone if they deliver and he says, "No we do not! Download the app!" and hangs up. I'm way beyond annoyed at that point but my wife and I had already decided what we wanted so she calls back and places the order for takeout. The food: Especial pizza, nothing especial about it.(See what I did there?). 2 meatballs, the size of a ping pong ball and tasted like they were store bought frozen. Shrimp scampi, maybe it just doesn't translate when you get it to go but basically a few shrimps sitting in about 4 cups of melted butter and cheese grease. Oh, and when I went to pick up the food, the guy was lightweight rude and gave attitude when I asked for forks and napkins. Fantastic food, drinks, atmosphere, and people. Jimmy at the bar is super cool and a majorly hard worker who takes care of everyone. Food was delicious drinks were strong. Owner Gil, is sooo cool! He sat with us and had drinks, and told us the coolest stories. He also gave us a Brunelleschis hat! They all mingle with customers and while they were understandably very busy (obviously since they are so awesome!) they welcomed us right in. This is a wonderful spot in Aspen. Had the opportunity to visit Brunelleschi's during a work trip to Aspen. Sat near the bar area (fortunately no wait on a Monday evening) and enjoyed a delicious meal with the Caprese Salad and Ezra al la Penne. Eating here was an enjoyable experience. My wife had the Capresse panini. I had the Cuban sandwich (just like you can get in Miami), and our son had the plain cheese pizza on a buttermilk crust. All were delicious and reasonably-priced, which is unusual in Aspen. The staff was friendly and helpful. We got hungry at around 4:00 p.m. and not a lot of places were open. I was about to settle for a convenience store hot dog and Twizzlers. This was a pleasant dining experince. read more

What a disappointment for our first meal in Aspen this year. As this is our annual tradition with our friends for almost 10 years - we all agreed we don't need to go back after yesterday's experience. Our waitress was very impatient and non-attentive. We ordered 4 kids pizzas (that they get to make themselves and she never returned. My husband had to go in search of her to which she ignored him....so, he found another waitress who apologized and too the kids pizzas and put them in the oven. The adult meals came out first which made for grumpy kids and my pizza was made incorrectly and when we went to find our waitress to let her know it as missing the main ingredient- she argued with me instead of just giving some sliced tomatoes....which was an easy fix. And my daughter smiled at her when she brought her - her pizza to which she rolled her eyes at her. Unfortunately, her demeanor was very disappointing to all of us. Ordered a pizza, caesar salad, and meatballs for 2 high schoolers. When the food arrived, the pizza was 12" round, cold, and the toppings (sausage and pepperoni) were average. The meatballs were cold and sitting in sauce which they delivered in a cardboard box, which meant some of the sauce spilled onto other items in our delivery. Salad was fine, very skimpy on the dressing. By the time we finished, we were both still starving. Definitely won't order from here again. read more

When Oscar Sunday rolls around, a hearty, resonating meal fit for a deep couch is needed. After a long day on the mountain, when the legs are sore and the lips are chapped, sweats and a plateful of warm food is priority number one. A to go order of 4 pizzas: Barbecue Chicken ( Chicken, diced red onions, cilanto & bbq sauce) Snowmass ( Canadian Ham, pineapple, & poquito garlic ) Highlands ( Sausage, mushrooms with grated mozarella ) GTV III ( Gorgonzola, roasted peppers, carmelized onions & sausage) Topped with an exorbitant order of caesar salad, ( an order per person was simply too much. 3 orders for 5 people was plenty ) the meal was comfort on a plate. The caesar dressing was light and dressed the salad perfectly. Fresh cuts of greens and a crunchy add on of croutons, encompassed the salad wonderfully. Each pizza, with a warmly baked thin crust was impacted with notable toppings that were fresh, abundant and flavorful. The thin crust was baked with a resounding touch of crunch and blended with each ceiling of flavor accordingly. Service up front was quick, friendly and they made sure our bags were packed with every addition available. Oscar Sunday was complete, and when on a return trip to Aspen, and in need of a fulfilling meal, Brunelleschi's will be my go to. read more

The service was spot on and the spaghetti and meatballs couldn't have been more perfect for a cold, Aspen night. The most memorable interaction with the staff of this casual and friendly restaurant was how separate they clearly keep the customers with children from all other guests who maybe would like to eat without the 'children chatter.' My favorite is that they called the while half of the restaurant sans the kiddos - 'the bar.' Even though it's space fully furnished hot a restaurant and bar. The menu stays pretty true to Italian fare. After not being able to decide between the standard spaghetti and meatballs and one of my faves - smoked salmon over a bed if lettuce with goat cheese. So I went with both. The spaghetti won. Mainly because of the spicy and generously sized meatballs! Wash that down with a glass if cab sav like Tony Soprano and you're golden. read more

TL;DR: Probably the most kid-friendly establishment in Aspen. Thin-crust pizza is their forte. Full bar. Trying to grab a quick bite to eat in Aspen while on a schedule is a difficult task. We had somewhere to be at 6:30PM and looked around for the least pretentious looking establishment who could get us in and out in less than an hour. Brunelleschi's (pronounced "broon-a-let-ski" like the Renaissance architect) was nominated, seconded and off we went. I'll just say that we barely made our time-table. We were directed to wait in a service area for 10+ minutes while the hostess returned from parts unknown and then were asked if we had a reservation. After being seated, and waiting another 10 minutes or so, our bleary-eyed blue-jean skirt wearing server was immediately annoyed that we would not be imbibing in anything stronger than water. We ordered a couple of sandwiches: Chicken Parmesan Panini (which was mediocre: chicken was pre-breaded from the bag and *dry* and the marinara was straight from the can) and an Italian Beef Baguette with 'jus (which was pretty damn tasty). The sandwiches came with excellent non-descript side salads. Brunelleschi's shines as a place to take children. Kids are given a chef's toque and can roll their own dough and make their own pizzas right at the table. The primary down-side to Bruno's is that it is extremely over-priced. But if you are in Aspen, you know that already. Overall, I'd say it was a pleasant experience, other than the disjointed staff. There was a bartender and at least four other employees milling around doing nothing who could have seated us or offered us drinks when we came in rather than left us standing there twiddling our thumbs waiting for the hostess (who was apparently off trying to herd a large party with numerous toddlers). read more

We stopped in for lunch while exploring Aspen. We chose this place because they offered gluten free pizza and pasta, which made my wife so happy (given she's a Celiac and can't have gluten). The food here was exellent, and the service was attentive. My kids had the cheese pizza, which was a very thin crust 9" pizza, and they were happy. My wife had the pizza special, which was prosciutto with truffle oil & a few other toppings. It was made with GF crust which was tasty, and the pizza was good. I had the ahi tuna pannine with wasabi mayo. We'd definitely go back, and found it to be quite good. read more

This place was slammed when we showed up and the service was still exceptional! Being from Miami, you walk into a restaurant that is packed to the point where you cant move and you automatically assume service is going out the window, but not at this place. We were seated relatively fast and once we ordered everything came out in a timely manner and was delicious. My husband and I came here in 2011 and we were so excited to come back here again last week. In fact we were so excited that we came back twice. The first time I got the Italian beef panini, although it wasn't quite the same as what you get in Chicago, it was still pretty legit. My husband got a pasta dish on the first visit and said it was very rich but still good. On the second visit I got the shrimp pizza which was good but not as amazing as what I remembered back in 2011. It is real made to order wood fired pizza though, so it was still hot and delicious. As a New Yorker I can definitely say it was real pizza. My husband got another pizza (I'm forgettjng which) and enjoyed his too. It wasn't as amazing as I remembered, but we'd definitely stlll return on our next visit to Aspen. read more

I've been to Brunelleschi's twice now, with mixed results. The first time, at least four years ago, I ordered a pizza that was delicious. Crispy, thin crust and lots of flavor. Tried it again tonight, and was less impressed. First of all, if you want a quiet dining experience, this is not it. Especially not if you make a reservation before 6 PM to catch a later concert at the music festival. There were multiple tables with small children near us so the volume level was--well, voluminous! I ordered the caprese salad (misspelled "capresse" on the menu) and it was excellent--two thick slides of fresh tomato with a generous hunk of mozzarella on a bed of field greens with a balsamic dressing. My dinner companions had the Caesar and said it was also excellent. Our entrees fared a little less well. I had a calzone that was gummy and salty. It would have been better as a pizza, I think. (All the pizzas can be made into calzones.) Two in our party ordered spaghetti primavera and were served linguini. This may not seem like a big deal, but some people care about the shape of their pasta! The waiter should have at least said they didn't have spaghetti and asked if linguini was acceptable. One good thing: after we finished our salads, they did NOT ask us to keep our silverware! That's worth an extra star in my book. Will give them another try next summer. read more

The reviews for this place were very mixed but we wanted to sit outside and eat in beautiful downtown Aspen so we decided to give it a try. The price for a regular pizza was a bit high.. luckily once you bit into it, it wasn't really a regular pizza. The flavors were amazing, fresh cheese, fresh veggies and wonderful service. We tried to go somewhere "nicer" for pizza but it was closed, so we happened upon this family hangout since it was next to our favorite Meat and Cheese restaurant. We love thin crust, and this was the thinnest crust we have ever encountered!! Not an oversized NY thin slice, but a crispy cracker thinner crust! We also tried the pretzel breadsticks, which were actually thin white salted sticks that did not fill us up completely but were the perfect appetizer portion. Halfway through our pizza, we found ourselves curious about the homemade mac and cheese and decided to order. Glad we did, because it was a perfectly measured cheese to noodle ratio! While we initially were hoping for a quiet, more formal Italian dining experience, I am glad we ended up here in this casual, family restaurant. read more

Bruno's [as the local's call it] is delectable, but impressively over-priced. The owner is absolutely wonderful, and likes to make sure all of her diners are happy. The staff is also very friendly and helpful, but does not push you or press you for time by any means. The atmosphere is far from relaxing, it is very lively and noisy, but if that's the kind of meal you're looking for, go for it. It can get very crowded very quickly with the awkward seating arrangement. It is in a nice location for kids to run around the outside of the restaurant between bites and still be able to keep an eye on them. However, you better hope the kids eat the entire 6" build-your-own pizza at $14 a pop. Like I've said, tasty, but pricey. It's all up to your discretion, but I would not come back unless someone else was paying for my meal. read more

I had a reservation at 8:00. I arrived with my roommate and we were told that, though we had a reservation, we had to wait up to 40 minutes for our table. The owner or manager with the broken arm seems to think employing CHILDREN is acceptable and charming. I refuse to eat at a rude establishment that has children bussing tables. The host also appeared to be favoring friends of the owner and families with kids. So, if you are an adult looking for an adult dining experience, this is not the place to go. We have had wonderful meals during our stay in Aspen, until we ate at this restaurant. Our waitress brought us the wrong salad choices and our order for pasta was also wrong. The final straw was when we received our bill and that was also wrong. Must say that a 17 dollar caprese salad with one slice of mozzarella cheese seemed a bit on the high side. This time we tried the shrimp linguini and seafood risotto and they were perfect. For dessert we tried the special chocolate bread pudding. it was not too sweet , just the way we like it. Starving and hungry for something filling (I always find I'm still hungry after eating out in Aspen!), I checked local Yelp recommendations and settled on Brunelleschi's. I stepped right up to the bar, took my seat, and the bartender swiftly caught on I was hungry. His recommendation? The spaghetti and meatballs. I modified slightly with angel hair pasta and dang! I was not disappointed. You know that slightly soy-based flavor that packaged meatballs can have? Not these - definitely the homemade stuff. Big 'ole plate of pasta with 3 or 4 massive meatballs, a nice glass of Pinot Grigio and some hot bread - all for under $30 in Aspen? Unheard of. But you can get that here at Brunelleschi's. You're going to either love here or hate it here. Brunelleschi's is a small, cozy pizza parlor in the middle of Aspen. They specialize in FANCY pizza (though I suppose you could get a plain cheese pie or pepperoni) and the price reflects that. You won't find cheap pies here. Our waiter was super attentive and friendly - we seemed to hit Bruno's in a lull, so we got all the attention. We passed on the apps - but we each got our own pizza, since the pizzas are more of a personal pizza than something that is shared. My husband got the Especial pizza (sausage, mushrooms, gorgonzola, carmelized onions, mozz and parm) and I got the Colby's special (mozz, prosciutto, parm, arugula and truffle oil). After maybe 10-15 minutes our 'za's were ready. First thing I noticed was the super SUPER thin crispy crust. It was thinner than a Ritz cracker. I like thin crust pizza, but some people prefer chewier pies. To each his own. I got around half-a-pig's worth of prosciutto on my pizza, along with a nice layer of cheese and arugula. It was salty, cheesy and delicious. My husband loved his 'za (it was awesome as well). Despite the thin crusts, we both left totally stuffed and ready for our flights home. If you like thin crust pizza (and don't mind paying $18-$21 for a personal pizza) I would suggest you come here. It's good stuff. read more

We went for a late lunch and were seated immediately. We split chicken fetuccine alfredo. We asked for white alfredo sauce instead of the pesto sauce. We really liked this place. We were out for an early meal and hear a lot of noise coming from Bunelleschi's. Turns out there was a 12-year old soccer team having pizza. This restaurant is a really good cross between family restaurant and semi-upscale Italian dining. The wine selection is pretty good, although kind of pricey. (I guess I'm pretending I'm not in Aspen - I'm sure rent is a fortune). We thought a pizza and large salad would be enough for three adults, but it wasn't. The bruschetta they brought out with the salad was really good. We probably should have gone with pasta - I saw some great looking dishes come out of the kitchen. Our daughter had a "make your own" pizza,. which came with a pretty fancy chef's hat (she was not as impressed as we were). She assembled it, and of course I couldn't resist offering to rearrange it to be better spaced. It's the artist in me - all about composition... She wouldn't let me touch it, but I did notice the kitchen fixed it before cooking. Overall a very pleasant experience. We will definitely return next time we're in Aspen. read more

Came here for work (for 4 weeks). First time we came in, great service by the bartender, amazing margaritas and awesome happy hour! We decided to come back! That was our 1st mistake. The girl behind the bar had no clue how to make drinks, the service was slow and they overcharged us. So, we thought, hey...it's Aspen..EVERYONE is slow, the restaurants are WAY overpriced and they're all pretty snobby, but good food here, so let's try it again and see if the other bartender is back! So, a few days later we went in again, sat at the bar and our guy was there. Food was just "ok", drinks were just "ok" and the bartender overcharged us. What the heck? Consistency is key folks. Brunelleschi's offers good Italian food up in Aspen. I had the chicken parm, and it was good. We had a great waitress, who went out of her way to be very helpful with our questions. This place loses points strictly because it was too damn hot in the restaurant! I asked them to turn on the air conditioning, but the temperature didn't change. They have a big oven inside for cooking the pizzas, which definitely heats up the place. I had to walk outside 3 different times to get some fresh air, which really drew from my experience here. read more
