    Chicken over rice
    Keshav N.

It's two homies in a truck making some good Syrian style food. We didn't expect the fried chicken over rice since we thought it was going to be gyro style cuts. The sauce is unique and a mix of sweet and savory. The people working there were super nice and there's two tables to eat at or other vendors there. I would go check it out when you get a chance!

    Lamb and chicken over rice!

My desire to try other Mediterranean foods brought me to this food truck while looking for lunch at work. My "go-to" from food trucks is the combo over rice, so I ordered that. For starters, the to-go container was filled with lamb, chicken, rice, and salad. The lamb was thinly sliced, and the chicken was fried instead of grilled, which added a different twist. The rice was seasoned well and flavorful, and the salad was crisp and fresh. The dressings richened the dish, but I failed to ask for some heat, which was the drawback of the dish. Finally, all of my cohorts from the hospital should make the short drive to this food truck for some excellent Mediterranean food. The operator was friendly and produced way before he promised it!

The food is absolutely phenomenal. The service is incredible. Cheesesteak - 5/5 Fries - 5/5 Falafel - 5/5 The entire menu is insanely delicious. The steak is fresh and cooked perfectly. The falafel is amazing. Crispy outside, soft tasty inside. The service is excellent. Super nice guy, making fresh, tasty food with passion and love.

Cheese steak fries & falafel were served hot and fresh! The man in the food truck was helpful, courteous and very friendly. He mentioned the menu hasn't been finalized but everything I tried was memorable. The chicken shawarma is a decent portion and palate pleasing but this place hit it out of the park with their cheesesteak fries (which is a cheesesteak minus the bun topped over fries). The falafel were perfectly crispy and bite sized with a really good flavor.

Bu'jadoh is a Syrian American food truck located in North Austin. When we arrived we were greeted kindly. We both got the lamb kabob express (wrap), and shared the steak fries with the falafel. The wraps were huge and they were not shy on the fillings (win). It was decent but now I'm thinking I should have tried the chicken shawarma instead The steak fries were a little bit on the sweeter side and I was caught off guard for a moment. Perhaps the sauce that came on it? The falafels were my favorite!! Perfectly crisp on the outside and soft filling on the inside. Everything was well made really well and you can tell the owners put love into their food. It just wasn't for me.

A Fantastic Introduction to Mediterranean Food!…read more I recently visited Levant Halal Restaurant and brought my parents, who are visiting from India. It was their very first time trying Mediterranean food, and they absolutely loved it! We started with two different types of hummus served with pita. The hummus was incredibly flavorful, and the pita was exceptionally fresh. We also ordered the falafel, which was perfectly prepared and delicious. For the main course, we shared the Chicken Shish Taouk with sides of beet salsa and Lebanese potatoes--everything was cooked beautifully and tasted amazing. Honestly, the highlight of the meal for us was the drinks. The mint juice and beet juice were so refreshing and easily the best part! We finished our meal with baklava and basbousa for dessert, and both were fresh, sweet, and incredibly tasty. Beyond the fantastic food, the ambiance is very neat and clean, and the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Levant Halal, especially if you are looking for a great place to introduce family to Mediterranean cuisine!

We were able to get four half portion sides instead of two which allowed us to try more of the vast options. I ordered chicken kabob, couscous salad, potatoes, lentils and beet salad. My husband ordered the beef shawarma, salad, jalapeño humus, rice and potatoes. Once we ordered and paid, we got our drinks and were seated. Our food was brought to us hot and fresh. The food was vibrant and colorful. Everything tasted as good as it looked. Perfectly seasoned and delicious! We will return when we're in the area.

We ordered the half order falafel with hummus, mint lemonade, lamb kabob platter, and beef kabob platter. Everything but the salad came in large Texas style portions. However, I'll think about coming here again because I didn't feel a good vibe with the service. We had to go look for someone to show us the table even though the place was empty for early lunch. Then, to get drinks or even the order was a problem. It took so much longer than usual. Our waitress was rude, and seemed bothered that we showed up. Then someone else came as the waitress and she was preoccupied with other tables and barely checked on us. A regular lunch which would've been one hour became almost two because of the lack of service. My friend had to stand and look for someone to give us a box to take out the good we couldn't eat because it was getting late and also to get the check because No one came in to check on us at all. It was almost like pulling teeth to get a regular service let alone good service. Again, the food was really good, and that alone was the only positive.

I decided to order a mini Persian feast: the beef koobideh with rice, doogh yogurt drink, and a saffron ice cream for dessert. This was my first time trying beef koobideh, and unfortunately, this just didn't seem to be very good. The meat itself was okay, decently cooked, and topped with quite a lot of some spice that I can't quite put my finger on. It was okay. The rice though, that is what really disappointed me. Persian rice is usually amazing, but this really didn't seem traditional and it had a strange taste to it. It also came with onion and a grilled tomato, both solid additions. Good portion though. The doogh yogurt drink wasn't homemade like I had hoped, but in all honesty, it still really hit the spot on a hot Austin day. Reasonable price. The saffron rice was also fairly disappointing. Large white chunks (clotted cream maybe? But they were pretty tasteless), gritty texture, not much flavor. Just not really worth it. All in all, a bit of a disappointing dinner in Austin. I'll have to look for a different Persian spot next time I'm in the area.

Parking is plentiful right in front of the restaurant. We came by on a Saturday around 1 PM, worried it might be packed, but it was actually pretty quiet. You can sit anywhere you like, grab a plate, and pay when you're done. The space is large and open, with three full rows of food and drinks plus a dedicated station for fruit and desserts. Everything was fresh, not overly salty, and there were plenty of options. My favorites were the hummus with eggplant (so flavorful with great texture), the salad and cucumber salad (fresh and refreshing), the dolma (perfectly done), gyro (tender and tasty), baked cauliflower (so good), fried chicken (juicy, crispy, and not salty), falafel (extra crunchy), and the lentil soup (simple but delicious). And don't miss their coffee at the checkout--it has a hint of warm spice and is the perfect finish after a meal. Surprisingly, I ended up loving the vegetable dishes even more than the meats. Overall, yes, $26 per person is on the higher side (what doesn't cost these days, right?!), but it's a great spot to try a variety of Mediterranean dishes that are fresh, simply seasoned, and let the ingredients shine--perfect whether you're new to the cuisine or just want a bit of everything.

Thanksgiving came around and we had zero desire to cook or clean. Our "plan" (and I use that word…read moreloosely) was Golden Corral. We figured if we got there early, we'd beat the crowd. Cute of us, honestly. We pulled up and that parking lot looked like Beyoncé was performing. Cars everywhere: on the grass, on the curbs, people creating their own imaginary parking spaces. People circling like it was Black Friday. Absolutely not. We left with no backup plan and even less hope. Pulled up Yelp and I remembered that Dimassi's buffet had been on my radar for months, but was it open? Called them up and CHA-CHING!!! Money! They were open, guys. That phone call felt like hitting the lottery. Thanksgiving was saved. We arrived and Dimassi's was calm, clean, and the buffet bar was fully stocked with hot food fresh out of the kitchen. They had your Mediterranean favorites: dips, salads, gyro meat, dolma, chicken kabobs, saffron rice, the good garlicky toum, warm potatoes, fresh pita, everything. They even prepared a turkey for patrons who wanted some. Wow. They understood the assignment. Now a couple things could be tweaked. I like my baba ganoush served warm...and maybe they could have had some lamb options? But, honestly? For a buffet on Thanksgiving at $23 a person ($9 for the 3 yr old with us), they delivered HARD. Dimassi's didn't just feed us...they rescued us from the Golden Corral Hunger Games. Thank you for being open. Thank you for coming through in the clutch. You saved Thanksgiving.

I was so excited to try it out, and from the moment I walked in, I thought i was going to be in for a real treat. The ambiance was fantastic, ugly outside but a transformation inside. Sure it looks dated and tacky with Persian rugs dressing up cheap wooden benches, and middle-eastern floor seating that seems off limits unless/until they determine whether they like you or not, but it's Austin. There's real personality here. We were pumped for the food, ordering a pretty epic spread. Great: Gyro. Clearly roasted and carved properly on a spit versus the pre-sliced garbage that often graces lesser Greek and Middle-Eastern establishments. Falafel was exceptionally crispy on the outside and moist inside, accompanied by a lovingly crafted hummus. Meh: literally everything else we had was pretty boring or bad. The rice was clumpy, a clear sign that the rice had been cooled and reheated. That's pretty unforgivable (the only time that's permissible and proper is for fried rice or rice desserts like rice pudding). The chicken was overcooked and bland -- no salt at all. Kofta, which I always look forward to was undercooked and slimy inside. No thank you. From its location, kitschy decor, and friendly service I really REALLY wanted to love this place, but sadly, the food is what fell far from the mark. I hope they find their mojo.
