I always love bringing friends here to try a different Thai restaurant compared to what they've had before This time, I showed them Nam Tok Beef (which is sliced grilled ribeye steak with ground rice, spicy lime juice, red onions, scallions, and cilantro), that came with sticky rice, as an entree split between 3 people. They loved it as much as I did! Two of us ordered their pad Thai, one that's mild spice and shrimp, and the other Thai spicy with pork. The balance between the mild spice with sweetness is impeccable. I don't prefer it so sweet but they hit the sweet spot here. The Thai hot dish did its job, and I'm impressed that it still was able to leave a hit of sweetness in its midst. The drunken noodles was great, no complaints. Bottom line: your ever-so-popular dish, the Pad Thai, is still a great go-to dish when one doesn't want to get out of your comfort zone. ONE THING I don't like is that the price of Nam Tok Beef went up by $4 (from $18 to $22), I don't believe it's worth that much more. Anyways, I was able to persuade my friends to try the Nam Tok Beef as an appetizer for all 3 of us and they appreciated something new. I guess you can say, "A whole new worlddddddd!" Papaya salad - 2 stars Wouldn't get this the next time. It was really sweet and tasted like yusheng, a Singaporean Chinese New Year dish served with plum sauce. Panang curry with fish ($13) - 3.5 stars The fish was deep fried, which I wasn't expecting and isn't my usual preference, but it was cooked perfectly - soft with no fishiness. They also gave so much fish my husband had to help. There were red bell peppers too. Unfortunately the curry was way too sweet, which the authentic version shouldn't be. I would ask for this without sugar/with much less sugar the next time. I got it with the medium spiciness level and it was barely spicy but my husband had the medium-spicy spiciness level on his noodles and that was too much for me. Drunken noodles - 3 stars The texture of the noodles was perfect but again this was too sweet! Came here on a whim after UNC's water crisis. I have been trying numerous Thai spots to find my fave one around the Chapel Hill and Durham area and I think I finally found it! Their menu is EXTENSIVE, so if you're indecisive like me... just choose it and stick to it because everything was so tempting. I got the M3., which is the ribeye with papaya salad and sticky rice. I wanted to try something new and I have not seen this dish at other Thai places! The Papaya salad was just perfect. It paired well with the steak, which sat on a bed of lettuce. The sauce was perfect for the steak and the sticky rice together! The sticky rice was a tad dry though. Did I mention they have desserts? I did not order a dessert, but I saw they have cakes and such for those with a sweet tooth. Their service was exceptionally quick and I cannot wait to come back to try their 'typical Thai specialties (pad thai, curries, etc.) to see if it upholds in flavor! I came here with my friend at around 7PM and there was a good amount of parking surrounding the restaurant. We were seated immediately upon walking in. My friend and I ordered drunken noodles ($14) and green curry with fish ($14) respectively. The food took a while to come out, but it was definitely worth it. Out of everything, I especially love how they made the fish. It was fried just a bit on the outside and really delicious. The portions were also huge and I had to take some of it to go. I went in with a friend for dinner on a Saturday. This was my first time eating at an actual Thai restaurant and I really enjoyed my visit! As soon as we walked in, we were immediately greeted. We were sat at a table in the corner. I liked how busy they were but it wasn't loud. My friend and I had no problem conversing. Our servers were very attentive even considering how busy they were. I had the drunken noodles with chicken for the first time and I really enjoyed it! It didn't seem like it was much but it was pretty good portion- I took half of it home. The rice was dry, and papaya salad a bit hard to chew, could be fresher and more tasty. Maybe I just got a bad batch? Other seem to really enjoy the papaya salad. Others at my table got the red and green curries, and drunken noodle. I think the drunken noodle was the best out of all the dishes we ordered - piping hot and flavorful with super tender noodles. The red and green curries were very watery. The squid was tender and delicious though! Atmosphere: This is where the restaurant shines. I think you're more paying for the atmosphere than high quality of food. Very spacious space with nice booths along the windows, as well as some outdoor seating. Service: Mixed. One server was nice and attentive, and the other dismissive. We were especially dissatisfied with one of the curry, and they did not try to improve the situation, even though they apologized and admitted the consistency is off that day. I was pleasantly surprised with Bua even though I went in after reading great reviews. We were greeted immediately and restaurant was somewhat busy but still very quiet. We were seated in a booth and our order was taken promptly. We ordered the pineapple fried rice and the pad kee mao and when we got our order the portion sizes threw me off. The pineapple fried rice had huge portions but the pad kee mao was the opposite with a much smaller portion. However, both of the dishes were really tasty and flavorful but the pad kee mao was our favorite. We left very happy with the meal we had. Found this Thai restaurant on Yelp and I had a great experience. The food was delicious and the interior was decorated very nicely with an inviting, fancy-casual atmosphere. My boyfriend and I arrived a little past 5pm, right after they opened for dinner. Service was prompt and attentive. We ordered the Pad See Ew and the Massaman Curry, both with chicken. For each entree, you can choose a heat level of mild, medium or hot. Fair warning, Thai food is pretty spicy in general and my medium heat dish was definitely spicier than other types of cuisine. However as I love spicy food, it was great for me. The portions were really big as well and both of us felt stuffed once we finished. Something that stood out to me was that the broccoli in my Pad See Ew was perfectly cooked -- not mushy but not crunchy/raw either. I feel like a lot of places overcook or undercook their broccoli and it can ruin the dish. Plus, the wide noodles weren't sticking together, which I know can happen if you don't cook rice noodles properly. Instead, they were perfectly coated in sauce and had a great bite to them! We were there until around 6pm and there were only a couple parties there besides us! Maybe the dinner rush hasn't started yet, but definitely check this place out if you're in the mood for Thai food. I have been here twice and had a great experience both times. The first time we had the green curry and chicken pad thai with medium heat. It was delicious! We ate outside with our dog and the service was right on time. The second time I swooped through to recover the credit card I had left behind. No answer on the phone but guess what? I had lunch with a friend here about a week after they opened, and while my friend wasn't a fan (she prefers milder, more "Americanized" Thai flavors - and there's nothing wrong with that - lots of blended foods are delicious), I had a feeling this was going to become my go-to for authentic, fresh Thai flavors. Today was my birthday, so I chose to come to Bua for my birthday dinner. I ordered the Salad Roll appetizer. The roll itself was fresh and tasty, but the dipping sauce made it wonderful; it consisted of a mix of peanut, ginger, and cilantro/coriander flavor and was the perfect consistency (not cloying and thick, but fresh and relatively thin). For our mains, my husband got a glass noodle salad with chicken and shrimp, medium heat. It came out with squid on it also, which didn't really add to the dish but it wasn't bad, either. The flavor of the broth/dressing was really good and the noodles were cooked nicely and not sticking together. My dish was Amazon Soft Shell Crab fried with a fresh salad of kefir lime leaf, ginger, crunchy greens, and what I think was slivers of papaya, with a very nice, vinegary sauce - the portion was huge, so I have most of the salad to eat for lunch tomorrow. I had forgotten that I don't really care for soft shell crab, but they made it tasty. Next time, though, I'll get the fish dish with a similar salad mixture. I got it medium spice, which is less spicy than Thai spice, but was perfect for me...just enough to clear my sinuses without burning out my palette. I got the coconut cake to go, and I'm eating it now as I write this review. Other reviewers are right - it is super light and airy. Our server (also attentive, as was the person I assume is the owner/manager, who stopped by our table often to see how things were) said her favorite is the custard cake - I'll try that next time. All in all, I will really enjoy working my way through this menu as we continue to re-visit this restaurant. read more

This is a very authentic Thai restaurant (complete with humorous misspellings) with excellent choices from noodle to curry to rice dishes. My girlfriend and I received fantastic recommendations and conversation from our server Erwin. We started with a delicious salad roll appetizer with a mouthwatering basil peanut sauce. She had the Nam Tok spicy beef dish, which is potent but blends well with accompanying lettuce, the sweet and sour sauce and sticky rice. I had the best pad keemow aka drunken noodle I've ever eaten. I recommend Thai hot. The servings were bountiful, and we both had to ask for to-go boxes. We live close by and will be back soon! read more
