We stopped by here for a weekday lunch and enjoyed our food.We called ahead to make our reservations and we were happy that it was one of the places where they dont add fish sauce in your curry/noodles if requested so YAY! It is not mentioned in menu but they can make almost anything vegetarian. I ordered red thai curry with vegetables & tofu and my husband ordered his usual Pad thai. Hands downs one of the most authentic Thai Restaurant I've been to! We got the fried chicken as an appetizer, and my gosh... IT. WAS. TO. DIE. FOR! For our entree, we got the Amazon Soft Shell crab and the Neua Yang Combo. The crab was so soft and it flavorful. The Neua Yang combo came with rib eye steak, papaya salad, and sticky rice. I can officially say that it has now became my go-to place for papaya salad! For dessert, we had homemade coconut cake and mango sticky rice! Coconut cake was so moist and was just the right amount of sweetness. The mango sticky rice was creamy, warm and just overall delicious. Fast. Friendly. Clean. Tasty food. The location is in a random spot, but the food was very flavorful. I thought the plate didn't have a ton of variety, for the pad see ew, but it didn't matter because the flavors were savory and yummy. We also tried the green curry and dumplings. The dumplings were a little different than I'm used to, thinner coating, but the sauce was yummy (nice vinegar flavor) and the pork was tender. The green curry had a great amount of spice and perfect amount for dinner. I also thought the service was great, very fast and accommodating. read more

I was a bit disappointed with the chicken wings and the grilled ribeye steak with papaya salad. Both of these dishes had the potential to be good but unfortunately both proteins were over cooked and dry as result. The steak was mostly well done. For such a thin cut of ribeye, the steak should not need long to grill. I did enjoy the pineapple rice with jumbo shrimp. I would like to come back and try the curry or noodles. Surprised at the number of high reviews. This seems like a rather average place. Both of our dishes were lacking in ingredients. Pad Thai was mostly noodles with tofu and some peanuts; hardly any bean sprouts or scallions. The Rad Na didn't have much noodles. Pricey for what the food was. This is the only actually great Thai place in the whole triangle region. While most Thai food around here is a sugary mess, Bua Thai Food is super fresh and the seasoning is well balanced no sickly sweet. They do some fresh takes on classic Thai dishes like their tom yum dumplings, delicate pork dumplings in spicy sour Tom yum broth. Other hghlights include the nam Tok beef, larb, pad prik catfish, pad see ew and that's only the ones that we've ordered repeatedly over the years. "Med" hot will close the throat of a novice and activate all secretion glands, so be weary about being a maverick. Every dish that I've ordered at this establishment has been excellent. So glad I found out about this place! The food is amazing and really delicious. Even though pad thai is a staple at many Thai restaurants, it's not always done well. I've had pad thai that was too dry or flavorless or it just doesn't taste right. I had chicken pad thai for lunch along with a cup of the tom yum soup. My taste buds were sooooo happy. The noodles were incredible. I talked with the manager and found out that they are freshly made, and you can definitely tell. I've been to a number of Thai places here in Durham, but this one is the best. Service was wonderful. I felt so at home there, and they were always checking on me to see if I was happy with the food. The prices for lunch were really reasonable, and so I am seeing this place as a go-to in the future, especially since I work from home and live only a couple of minutes away. I'm looking forward to also trying out their dinner menu as they have quite a few dishes that I didn't see on the lunch menu. Lots of parking which is great. No need to worry about finding a spot. We came to Bua Thai Cuisine after experiencing a burglary and break in to our home and looked forward to some good food to try out. Unfortunately, the staff was very offensive, arrogant and one of the managers trivialized our experience by saying "I don't give a shit." We left the empty restaurant and instead turned the day around with some good Bocci Trattoria & Pizzeria which has very friendly staff and excellent food. read more

I passed Nantucket on my way to Bua. Nantucket is ok when they don't make you sick there from their food. Bua is absolutely better in every way, except maybe in their beer selection than Nantucket. Nantucket is average mostly with just a few things good. Bua is always at least as good as expectation. The Penang curry is marvelous along with drunken noodles. The coconut soup is to die for. I highly recommend this place above 99% of Asian restaurants in our area. So why are there so many cars at Nantucket and just a few at Bua. Why do people behave the way they do? No idea. read more

I've ordered & picked up food from here before, but I was more happy with the dine in experience. The staff were very friendly & attentive. The server had great suggestions that did not disappoint. My favorite was the seafood salad. Although I would rather have Yam Tilay from Thai China, the ambiance of Bua Thai was more enjoyable. My boys even enjoyed there meals which is not a given fir these picky eaters. My youngest son absolutely loved the sticky rice & the oldest enjoyed the coconut cake. We will be back soon. read more

We ordered carry out on a visit to Durham. They left out the steamed rice for two entree dishes, so we were left to split the sticky rice from the third entree three ways. No one was satisfied. Also the fried tofu appetizer was not the golden crispy tofu tod I'm used to at Thai restaurants, and the portion was really small. Looks like we were charged $5 for about $1 worth of tofu tossed in the deep fryer. This is really a shame because the flavors and spice of the actual entrees were spot on, lip-burning pleasure. We'll probably order again next time we're in town, but we'll forego the appetizer and make a point to check for rice. read more

My husband and I stumbled upon Bua Thai Cuisine while shopping at the mall and am I glad we did! We were greated and sat right away by Andrea, who turned out to be our waitress, and she was friendly and engaging. Decided to start with the Tom Yum Dumplings and Tom Kha soup - delicious!! For entrées we had the Pineapple Fried Rice and Panang Curry with chicken. This food was so good, we ordered entrées to go. After talking to Andrea, we learned that they are a family run restaurant with strong ties to Thailand and they have been at this location for 5 years. This place is about 45 minutes from where I live, but that won't stop us from coming back! read more

How to make bad Pad Thai 101: Add so much fish sauce that as soon as your customer opens the container they feel they are at a fish market. Ok maybe that is a bit over the top but every bite did taste like fish sauce which is unfortunate. Also if you order vegetable pad thai they basically add a ton of cabbage along with a few pieces of other vegetables. The chicken chili basil dish had a amazing flavors but over the top on the onions and peppers. Would not have minded some other veggies in there. Medium is a bit on the spicy here. The chicken massaman curry was the best dish hands down between the amounts of chicken, carrots, potato, and they even added cashews which was new to me in this dish. Satay was good. Spring Rolls were ok again they loved adding a lot of cabbage to it. Not sure yet if I would be back, if so I would stick to curries. read more

How random that this place would have the best coconut cake I've ever had in my entire life. It's not sweet like most cakes in the USA - the cream is incredibly delicious. So, so good. The dinner was great, as well. I had the Pad Thai with shrimp and my husband had the green curry with chicken. My pad Thai was well flavored and I liked the smaller noodles. The shrimp was cooked well. My husband said his curry had a great sauce but that there was too much of a specific vegetable...some kind of root veggie that reminded him of bamboo (not sure of the name). But that could be his personal preference, I suppose. I should add that he ate the entire thing with no leftovers, so I call that a win. Bottom line? We are so incredibly happy that there is a good Thai restaurant in our area. And the owners seemed really kind and proud of what they've accomplished. We will be back! read more

Very good service and suggestions were made. I can eat Thai everyday. I was visiting the area and decided to try this place... what I had was not disappointing. I started with the Tom Yum dumplings they were very good to me. The server suggested the lamb I was leaning toward the spicy beef. But those dumplimgs were so good I decided tho get the special, Tom Yum fried rice. My daughter had The pineapple fried rice, tasty. No complaints about this place. I was disappointed in my experience with Bua Thai. I tried to order carryout on their website for later in the evening, but was unable to specify a time for pickup. I placed the order anyway, and called the restaurant immediately after ordering to specify the actual pickup time I'd like. The person who answered was very short with me on the phone and sounded annoyed that I'd called. I understand that the restaurant business is so stressful, especially right now, but I was expecting more courtesy. Especially at 4:30 PM when calling about an order i'd placed seconds before because I couldn't specify a time for pickup due to an error on their site. When I did receive my food, I was disappointed to see that while I'd ordered tofu, I received chicken for one of my dishes. At that point I was already home and didn't try to take it back -- it just wasn't worth it. The whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, and I'll likely not be going back to Bua Thai in the future. read more

The only problem with this place is that the service is not good. It's really slow and a lot of basic things are overlooked. Stopped by for an early dinner after hitting Southpoint. Very nice service. Had a fish dish that was cooked perfectly. Fried crisp but very tender. Veggies were very fresh. Sauce was tasty and had some heat but not crazy hot. Don't be intimidated by the chili indicator on the menu. Lots of Thai basil which scores extra points for me. Not skimping on the good stuff. I'd rather drop a few bucks here than some garbage like PF Chang about a mile down the street. Looking forward to exploring the menu some more. read more

I ordered Pad Keemow Tofu, and the resulting dish was kind of strange. The tofu cubes came out crispy on the outside, and literally hollow inside. I've never seen anything like it. If you pressed on the tofu, you could completely flatten the cube. Instead of being full of bean curd, they were full of air. Asked my server about it, he was clueless, but said the kitchen told him that was just the way that type of tofu was. He agreed that it was very strange. I'm not an expert on asian cuisine, but I've had a lot of tofu and have never seen anything like it. I don't even know how you would do this. Maybe if the tofu was kind of liquidy and if you overcooked it you could boil off the insides? Anyway, it was definitely not good. It was kind of like eating a wrapper with nothing inside. My wife had Nam Tok Beef and said the steak was fatty and unappealing. We sat at the bar for dinner which was a mistake. The place was pretty quiet, and so there wasn't even a bartender, which meant our waiter had to come behind the bar and make drinks. So all in all, I wouldn't say this was horrible, the food was edible but kind of unappealing. At the price point of $13 I expected quite a bit better. Won't be returning. -Mark read more

In my opinion, the Triangle generally has mediocre-to-terrible Thai food. I'm a Thai food snob and I'm beyond excited to have finally found delicious Thai food in the area! I've been looking for Thai food of this quality for 5 years! I've eaten at easily half a dozen other places and this is the only place in the Durham-Chapel Hill area that I would recommend. The pad kee mow (drunken noodles) is to die for. The red and green curry are both incredibly delicious, too, as is the tom kha. This place understands the meaning of the request "medium spicy" and truly delivers excellent heat. The service is also great and they have an above average beer selection for a Thai restaurant, as well as a variety of other drinks. This is my most exciting restaurant discovery in this area in a couple of years. read more

Delicious new restaurant! I grew up in Chicago and was spoiled by wonderful Thai restaurants and have been a bit disappointed by the Thai scene in the Triangle... so I was excited to try a new Thai restaurant in Durham! The restaurant just opened a couple days ago so I was apprehensive to try it right away, but I went with a group of friends and we all really enjoyed our food and experience. My partner and I ordered Green Curry with chicken and Pad Thai with tofu. Both dishes were well-spiced and fresh! Our friends ordered Pad Kee Mao (Drunken Noodles) and Panang Curry. The Drunken Noodles looked really juicy and had lots of vegetables. We didn't leave any room for dessert but I wish we had because the desserts looked delicious (the owner said the custard cake is her favorite and I also had my eyes on the coconut cake). The owner checked in on us a few times and was a joy to chat with. We all loved our food and can't wait to go back! read more

Just meh. Came here on Tuesday night, restaurant empty. Ordered massaman curry and drunken noodles. Both were overly sweet as others have commented on. No real wok hei with the noodles and not enough basil. Curry came with a tiny tea cup sized bowl of rice and extra rice was $1.50!! I said no thanks. They did give us some extra rice to go with our leftovers which was considerate. Subpar Thai food and you can do better elsewhere in the triangle, IMO. read more

I came for lunch and ordered a Thai coffee and chicken green curry. The service/server was a little awkward, but it was fine. The Thai coffee was delicious, but I was a little disappointed with the green curry. The menu said only basil and bamboo shoots, but when it arrived also had red bell pepper. I don't really like cooked bell pepper and would have asked to leave it out if I had known. The curry sauce was also a little bland/watery tasting, and it could have used much more spice - a weird thing to say about green curry. All in all, it was ok for lunch, but I definitely wouldn't pay their dinner prices. read more

This is a new Thai restaurant near South Point mall in Durham. I went here with my family last week and I must say that this is delicious and also authentic Thai food. This restaurant offers great Thai food, but also delicious desserts! We've shared the coconut cake which was the best cake I've ever had in the States, not too sweet, but nice and airy. Both were pretty good, although I'd say my food to rice portion is a little off, I'd appreciate a couple more pieces of fish or vege over the amount of rice we have.
