Had to do an update that I really don't like to do? But , the last two times I've been here the food quality has gone down? Tonight I went and had a sampler plater with ribs and brisket. My sides were both ranch beans , in the past are my favorites? But this time the beans were cold straight from the pot and the ribs were really dry ? Normally melt in your mouth and fall off the bone? Sorry but for 34.00 I would think it would be better ? Service is always good here , but maybe today is just an off day ? Messed up pick up order. Never got so sick in my life for three days. I got pulled pork sandwich. Never again. Thought of calling them or reporting them but I got better after 4-5 days. Hello, My wife and I ate at Big Bubbas on Nov. 27, 2021. We liked it so we returned on Nov. 28 with some friends. I ordered and the cashier later told me she didn't charge me for my wife's ice tea. She attempted to cancel the initial transaction and ran my card again with the additional charge on it.  I checked my bank account and saw the initial charge was still there, plus the additional one. Two charges for nearly $50 each. I notified the cashier and she said there's nothing she could do until Monday because she had to to notify the office. So no one can authorize a refund at the restaurant?  She told me her name was Christine and took my number. She said it may take a couple days for the refund to come through but it was coming. After about a week with no refund, I called back and spoke with someone else. She said Christine wasn't in but took my number and said she'd call me back. She also said Christine is the owner and assured me it would get taken care of.  I still haven't received my refund or even a call back. I've called repeatedly and emailed with no response. I'm not sure what the issue is but this is kind of ridiculous for something that clearly was the restaurant's fault. I used to love this place but this is just terrible business. Lunch on the road could be a bit dicey but using the Yelp app helps tremendously. We were heading to the Paso Robles Pioneer Museum which opened at 1:00 pm, so we had time for some BBQ. Parking was easy (especially for a motorcycle) and close by, so if you are disabled you should be fine. I loved the decor very Bluesy and lends itself to a very good time. I had been absent for a time and hadn't seen my "extended family" over at Bubbas Bbq in a while and I have to say that when I walked in Christina, the owner and her staff all yelled my name and said they were wondering where I had been, they wanted to know the "latest" and how things were going with me and my family...I was made to feel so special by the entire staff and i could tell they were happy to see me . I have my "favorite restaurants and go, like most people with their families to places I know where the food is always consistent and tasty and where I am made to feel like part of their family. I am always impressed with Christina, the owner, she always greets EVERY customer that comes in regardless of what she is doing or how busy she is. I can't think of a restaurant that I frequent where the owner is working non stop with a fantastic smile welcoming the customers and is open and available to do everything possible to surpass customer expectations time and time again. This place used to be a go to for us but the last time we were in, it has really gone downhill. You need to order at the counter now, the bar only has a couple of seats, and they now serve your beer in plastic cups. One of the things we used to look forward to was their ice cold mugs but the person behind the bar said they no longer have those. I go here all the time with my toddler! It's a great place for lunch or dinner. I love everything on the menu but my favorite is the tritip sandwich with macaroni salad. Traveling north on 101 stopped here for lunch. Ordered the pulled pork sandwich with side of fries. Fries were outstanding, the pulled pork less so. Pork was dry, I added extra bbq sauce (nice sauce), and flavor was myeh, no smokiness, seasoning. We pass through Paso from time to time and will take this off the list of places to sop. read more

Big Bubbas Bad BBQ is literally BAD! We aren't from the area so we decided to try this place out. The outside looked interesting and the inside looked awesome! They had a koi pond we walked over and a cell with tables in it. Looked fun! We were seated quickly and our server came to our table a bit later. The prices were a little higher than we expected. I should have looked up this place on yelp before we decided to eat here. I ordered the tri-bubba-tip sandwhich with a side of spicy coleslaw. My boyfriend ordered the BBQ Chipolte chicken sandwich with Mac and cheese. I should have listened to all the reviews about the meat. Not good. Should have been a sign when the server said "it should be out pretty quickly". It was dry, leathery, not hot, it was just warm. Like they cooked it this morning and just kept it under a lamp or something. I've eaten damn good tri-tip sandwiches. It should not taste like this. My cole slaw was like warm. My pickles were room temperature. Not worth the price at all. Our foods were cold before we even finished our meals. My boyfriend did enjoy his chicken sandwich but after it got cold halfway through he noticed it got terrible and the chicken was dry. I also noticed we got dirty napkins. The corners of it were soaked with some kind of sauce. Filthy. Go somewhere else. Don't eat here. The food is not worth the price. I will not be recommending this place to anyone or returning. Horrible. We paid $19 each for a serving of brisket and 1 side. It was disgusting. It was so dry that we were gagging trying to swallow it. We are from Texas and love brisket. This had no seasoning at all. My husband is a huge meat eater and never leaves meat anywhere. We literally threw away over 1/2 of our meat. We paced our order online and it says 19.99 for 1 combo plate, so we decided to share a plate, but when I went to pick up the order, their menu said 29.99 for the plate. The sausage was the only thing not awful. Brisket was super dry, mac n cheese had no flavor and the beans were boring. On top of this, it was fairly expensive for the quality. Great atmosphere, reasonable prices and the portions you can't beat. We tried a good variety of items off their menu and all were great! I've said it before but I'll say it again because B B B BBQ hasn't taken heed: If you're gonna serve BBQ, you've gotta offer a Bock. Shiner Bock. Any Bock. Michelob Bock. Any Bock. Seriously. Bocks and BBQ go hand-in-hand. Not having any Bocks, I opted for unsweetened iced tea, which was good. Hubby asked for Modelo Especial on draft. It was flat. Really??? I couldn't find anything on the menu that tempted me, so ate half of Hubby's burger and fries. He requested fries crispy, and they were. He ordered his burger medium well, and it was. Fries required salt, so we salted. Burger was good. Here's another suggestion: You need to routinely inspect your chairs and then tighten them. The first chair I sat in, felt as if it was going to collapse under my weight. It was VERY wobbly. I traded for a chair at another table. The second chair was also in need of tightening, but not as badly as the first. That is a SAFETY ISSUE. The barbed wire spool between tables in probably also a safety issue, but what do I know? (Think children. Think drunks.) I wore a new top today; first time I've worn it. It got snagged on the corner of the table because they don't bother checking or smoothing those as needed, either. For many years (two decades), we looked forward to a late lunch at Big Bubba's Bad BBQ after driving in from Vegas, en route to Cambria. The last few stops have been disappointing. The menu has changed. Morale seems to have dissipated. Maintenance is being deferred or ignored. Prices have escalated. Only reason I came back was for a group gathering which was definitely not my choice. First I should say that this review brings me no joy -- I used to LOVE this place! Once upon a time, someone with big, bold ideas created a truly colorful and unique dining experience. In addition to great food and drinks, BBB had a super fun and lively atmosphere. The bar area was always full of good old boys with sassy bartenders and an mechanical bull. Country music, laughs, and cheers filled the air as rowdy crowds drank and watched people take on the bull. They were usually easier on the gals and kids, but not so charitable with us guys. After a couple of beers and shots, my buddies and I would inevitably wind up on that bull. We'd drive back to LA with sore thighs laughing about it all the way home. Periodically a 'special' song would come on unexpectedly and lovely waitresses in cow-patterned tops would stop whatever they were doing and line dance! No matter how long you'd been sitting in traffic - this was guaranteed to put a smile on your face! If you weren't driving, you might partake in one of their super tall margaritas or mixed drinks in a souvenir cup! Yeah, this was the kind of place you wanted a souvenir cup from -- or a T-shirt or a cap. Families filled almost every table and it was often hard to find a seat at the bar. So sometimes you just had to wait. The food was great! You could mix and match meats in those days. Every plate was served with a thick slice of Texas toast and a couple of sides! The food was served on 'real plates', with actual silverware and real ramekins for the sides. You ordered from the bar or your table and someone would bring you your food and beverages. Fire pits burned outside. Great art direction with a bridge you had to walk over, water feature old timey props, and jail cells - I mean this place was unbelievable! The kind of place you wanted to introduce your friends to. How the mighty have fallen. It's as if that visionary guy died or sold the place and a corporate investment firm that didn't quite 'get it' took over and ruined it. I'm sure there's a story here and I don't mean to be harsh. I'm sure the pandemic didn't help. But also... Sometimes all those crazy, funky, unnecessary, colorful things that make your business unique - are the very thing that's drawing a crowd. The removal of the mechanical bull a few years back was the beginning of the end. It was just never quite the same after that. The last time I brought a couple of BBB virgins in, was towards the end of the pandemic in 2021. At that time Bubba's was down to a skeleton crew and there was pretty much no one in the building in terms of staff or customers. They had unfortunately reformatted (made worse) the entire menu limiting sides to just one and stopped offering BBQ combo plates (the thing I used to look forward to) and of course jacking up the prices. No more table service, now you have to order from a window, and they shout out your name when it's time for you to go up and get your food. The 'silverware' has been replaced with plasticware which is also self-serve and comes out of a vending machine. The plates are smaller and metal and the ramekins are those small plastic to-go salad bar cups with lids. Basically, they eliminated everything extra, fun, or service oriented, in a very conspicuous effort to cut costs and reduce labor to near zero and jacked up the prices. I struggled to explain to my companions why I dragged them there. In fact, they weren't even interested staying or ordering dinner after driving well out of our way to go there. They just ordered some sides and a couple of glasses of wine "to go" (the only good thing about the pandemic) and snacked on the road. Today I had the occasion to return to Big Bubba's for the first time since then. Traffic outside was busy and the town was bustling. Would I be able to get a table? Gah! THIS was not the Bubba's I fell in love with years ago. all of the worst cost cutting decisions have been made permanent and all the best parts...gone forever. As I left I had buyer's remorse. Felt like I paid a little too much for not a lot and completely missed what made this place great. Well, Bubba - we had some good times. Let's see what else is out there. EDIT: Ak OK, so there IS a combo plate. "Any two items" but at the time of this review was nearly $40, which is why I passed on it and felt like there basically wasn't a combo plate. read more

They do indoor dining but we had a big party to seat so we chose to sit outside. Absolutely wonderful service. My friends and I decided to try some of their frozen alcoholic drinks and we were not disappointed! Highly recommend this place if you have a big party to seat and don't want to be split up like most restaurants will have to do due to limited seating. Very unique atmosphere. Better than other BBQ places in Paso (which isnt saying much unfortunately), but still not great. Ribs were full spare ribs with cartilage, Brisket did not look or taste smoked. Both were cooked well (not over or under done) but not much flavor either. Corn and Beans were straight out of the can and macaroni was bland. BBQ sauce wasnt bad, but you only get one or two little plastic cups of it (none on the table or dispenser). With a little more effort this could be good (B grade) BBQ (Not great "A-grade", that would take quality smoking, higher quality cuts of meat, and improved recipes). For a quick BBQ fix I would come back. C+ grade for this place. read more

You know this isn't the first time we've been here and we were actually looking forward to coming back here. Oh boy were we let down big time. We were trying really hard to remember what it was that we had the last times that made us want to return, and for the life of me I really couldn't remember. We ordered two combo plates. One with tri-tip & beef ribs side of potato salad, the other with brisket & pork ribs side of corn on the cob. Both ribs were really tough neither one was fall off the bone tender, we even had a difficult time trying to cut off the meat with a knife. The tri tip was little chunks of rough dry meat. Brisket started out ok but then I noticed it was half of fat chunks and that is just way too much. My sister liked the BBQ sauce but their was no way the sauce was gonna cover all of that. On the plus side the iced tea was good lol. Service was great, definitely can't complain about that. You know my sister and I usually have a three strikes you're out policy on any place we go to but this one already pushed it for her, she doesn't want to return at all. The scenery is great with great outdoor & indoor seating. We were coming home from Disneyland and were about an hour and half unil we reach home. My family of seven enjoy eating tri tip, chicken, and a few other meats. We have been wanting to try this place for a while and sort of regret it. First off, our order was done in about 5-8 minutes. Not only on the bun, but every bite had a greasy taste and feel. Smothered with sauce that that had little taste, the pulled pork sandwich just did not deliver. The Texas Taters, nothing more than homemade(?) potato chips, had an awful back-of-the-mouth taste that made them unbearable. For $12.99, a pickle would have been nice. The brisket was okay, with an acceptable amount of fat. The slaw was ok, nothing great. A nice looking place inside, kind of rustic. A small condiment station with ketchup and mustard, but no BBQ sauce? C'mon folks, this is a BBQ place for gosh sakes. No evidence of sanitizing the tables after use.
