Second time here....the food was better than I remembered! Kids got to sit in the jail which pleased them and pleased my friend and I bc we got to eat alone! Our waitress Marina was awesome! This place use to be the place to be. Unfortunately it has turned into one of the slowest service restaurants in the area. I came here about 2 weeks ago for a friends birthday, the place was empty and it still took the bartender 10-20 minutes to take a beer order. It then took an additional 10 minutes to pay for said beer. I came back tonight to pick up food that I called in, the girl on the phone said it would take 10-15 minutes. I show up 20 minutes later and hostess tells me it's going to be another 15-20. I ordered a salad and tacos, how on earth does that take 30-40 minutes. When I asked why it would take so long, she looked at me and told me all the people in the restaurant were here before I was and they needed their food. Super awesome way to respond to a customer. OVER - RATED. What a disappointment. I walked in with high expectations from tasting their BBQ at the Alameda County Fair which was excellent. I ordered the combination plate ($22 ) so I tried almost everything they have to offer. I walked out hungry and feeling disgusting. My family and I are new here to Paso and decided to check out some new places. We decided to check out this BBQ spot. The service was good. No complaints there. Food, on the other hand, was not so great. I ordered the tri-tip dinner. My steak was ordered medium. It arrived pretty quickly, but was cold and dry. My first thought was that someone else had ordered it a day ago. Then they put it on a plate for me so that it wouldn't go to waste. They could use a better selection of sides as well. Wasn't the best BBQ I've had, but way better than I was expecting for vendor food at a festival. This is a review of the mobile event truck, yelp doesn't really seem to have a good way to separate that out so oh well. I headed down to Maker Faire today and wandered around for a few hours. Really enjoyed it and was pleasantly surprised when i stumbled across a big bad-ass smoker in between two of the buildings. This thing was beautiful, luckily they were in the process of stoking it up so I could check out the innards a bit. Redoubled my desire to take up welding, luckily I picked up some City College info from the booth at MF. Anyway, BBQ wasn't spectacular or anything, but it was pretty damned good. I got the beef brisket sandwich. Great smoke ring, plenty juicy without being fatty and it was more than enough food for ~8.50, best deal in the whole fairgrounds. Ever wanted just a good meal in a fun atmosphere? Bubba's is half your answer. The entrance promises a fun evening. Warm perpetual bonfire outside, then crossing a bridge over the creek running between the koi pond and the watterfall feature, to the actual jail cell tables, you just know you're in for a treat when the waitresses finish line dancing to bring you your food. Unfortunately, the wow factor ends there. I'm a fan of BBQ sauce, and this is pretty good sauce, but steamed meat soaked in BBQ sauce does not make me think I'm actually eating BBQ. It's not. The meat quality is 'ok', the beef a bit chewy and way WAY over cooked. Plus, like A.J.'s a few miles south, I would like a good beer with this kind of cuisine. There is none. There is beer, don't get me wrong, but the choice is as pedestrian as a Tokyo crosswalk. Some of us like something beyond a Budweiser, Coors, or Michelob.There were others, of course, but you get my meaning I would have loved the Hefewiesen on the menu. Too bad they don't actually have that anymore, aside from making the menu look more complete. I do hate to bad-mouth the place, as the service is always 100% polite and attentive. We ate here recently, as a family of 4 with two young kids it's decently family friendly. Their prices have gone up since we last ate here which was surprising because I think portions got smaller. I ordered the fish and chips, the fish was served as a whole filet deep fried- very hard to eat because it falls apart if you attempt to cut it up (which was how I was meant to eat it, it comes with a steak knife) but way too big to pick up to hold and dip into tartar sauce. Fish was not fresh, tasted very fishy to me- I quit eating it a few bites in. Kids' meals were ok, basic children's food chicken strips and a grilled cheese. I also ordered a side Caesar salad and it was pitifully small and tasted bland. Husband ordered the maple bourbon pork chop, very small chop and very small sides of mashed potatoes- he requested a double order of mashers vs veggies and potatoes, didn't even look like enough for a single serving. Onion rings were delicious and great portion enough for us all to share! Waitress was very kind and attentive. Won't be back anytime soon due to the portion sizes and pricing gone up.
