The Canton House on Buford Highway is my family's go-to for authentic Cantonese dim sum in Atlanta…read more The food is always up to expectations each and every visit. Having been at least once every couple months for years, it's our Chinese comfort food as dim sum is meant to be. Although I would recommend arriving at anytime they are open, we find the absolute best time for dim sum is to arrive right at opening on Saturday or Sunday. This time lets us beat the wait, get a great table fast, and the food is super plentiful, hot and fresh out of the kitchen. The chrysanthemum tea is a must have and complements the food as a perfect, tasty, and just sweet enough palate cleanser (although I would prefer to add the rock sugar myself to my tea, they serve it with sugar already inside the pot). For the absolute best pairing with your chrysanthemum tea, make sure to save room for the awesome pineapple buns while supplies last. They were out today and we all collectively cried (will be going back just for the pineapple buns soon...we are just not complete without them!). We love all the dishes, but our absolute favorites (outside of the pineapple buns) are the pork spare ribs with black bean, the beef rice rolls/noodles, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cakes. Add some spicy sauce to the spare ribs and turnip cakes to really set them off! For iced coffee lovers who like it really strong, don't pass up on the iced coffee. It has legs that are strong enough to walk, but completely complements the dim sum with a little extra boost to help you enjoy the day. So, I challenge others to find a better dim sum place in Atlanta. That is why Canton House earns my 5th star and looking forward to getting my pineapple buns (really) soon!

I was quite surprised that I was able to get a table when I went on a Saturday 11ish AM (peak…read moredimsum hours!). Good service with the push carts rolling around passing the tables often. We started with the flower tea, amazing choice! Sweet and warming, nicely aromatic. Perfect start. Then the dim sum carts rolled in and we chowed down. DISHES I ORDERED - Siu Mai: Not the best I've had. Quite oily on the outside, but the flavor isn't bad. It does...taste like siu mai. It's just nothing spectacular - Chinese Broccoli: A classic! Very good - Beef Chow Fun: A very chewy and bouncy home made flat noodle dish. Savory, salty, and flavorful! Good amount of tender beef too. - Shrimp Balls: Crispy and fried on the outside, yummy, with good big shrimp ball. Yummy classic sweet and sour sauce too. Delicious - Egg Rolls: Good, not too oily, a normal egg roll - Spare ribs: Possibly my favorite dish! Tender, not too chewy, good savory sweet flavor. -- Overall, it's not bad but it's nothing to write home about. My favorite item was probably the spare ribs. The rest were standard in my opinion. However, service is fast since it is dimsum, so perfect to eat when hungry! Also great ambiance for big group parties or hangouts!

There are some differences to how menu items are made/taste from when I first had it, so I feel as though the chef has most likely changed. It's both good and bad because the menu items with taro aren't quite as nice as before, but other things are either the same or better like the Beef Ho Fun for example. The chicken feet have changed too, but both were good. All the classic items are still basically the same. I liked the pan fried chives dumplings and beef cheung fun here. I can't speak for dinner or how it is on the weekdays, but it's quite busy over the weekends, which is expected for dim sum. It's a large space too, but once it's busy, you'll have to take a number and wait for a table. There's some seating along the side of the entrance to wait, but it may still take awhile. Usually, only one person really has to go and take a number, so if possible, one person should strive to get there earlier.

We came for dim sum and everything was spot on -- juicy soup dumplings (小籠包), fluffy char siu bao, tender pork spare ribs, and silky shrimp rice noodle rolls that reminded me of what I used to eat growing up. My favorites were the siu mai (pork + shrimp dumplings) and the egg tarts, which were buttery, flaky, and baked perfectly! Beyond dim sum, their full Cantonese menu looks amazing -- from crispy salt & pepper squid to beef chow fun and roasted meats. It's definitely a spot I'll return to for dinner or a big celebration. Service was good too - we were never sitting around too long waiting for anything.

The plaza the restaurant was in was on the nicer side compared to regular strip malls, so we hoped for some good warm rice noodle soup. The place only had a few people in there, but given the fact it was a rainy day, that was expected. We were seated pretty quickly and our server got our drink orders. I had the mango milk tea with sago, and my partner had the taro mild tea with sago. I'm not sure why it happens to her drink orders, but every so often, they will have boba balls in her drinks when she didn't want them; this place was no exception. We are sad to report the flavor of these teas are quite bland. You will only get a hint of the flavor you ordered. We both ordered the golden hot and sour rice noodle soup, a side of sausage skewers, and a side of shrimp rice noodle rolls. The soup was a big disappointment. The flavor was ok at best, but all the textures were off, and the rice noodles appear to be a bit soggy when it was brought out. Neither of us finished our soups with close to half of each of our bowls left. The shrimp rice noodle rolls were a surprise. Normally, they are full shrimps inside the rolls, but at this location it was made with cooked shrimp paste. The taste was ok, but again, odd texture. The sausage skewers were a sad joke: they were two longer beef hot dogs that were fried up and served with ketchup... I am not kidding you. I didn't know what to say. We had a long drive ahead of us, so we did a double order of the popcorn chicken to go when we placed our initial order. The flavor was ok, but it had no crisp at all. At least there was some fried basil in the flavor profile. We are sad to say, we did not enjoy our visit here. I'm not sure how it has a 4.3 rating, or if being from LA has spoiled us and gave us too high of expectations for these kinds of foods.
