Wow, this place is simply amazing. Had some gift cards from a few years back & we were out in OC so we decided to use them. So glad we did. Lovely restaurant. The decor is superb! We had Chuck as our server. Exceptional service! Emily the manager was fantastic. Great customer service all the way around. Met another server Vet. Everyone was just so congenial. Food was excellent and plentiful. Husband had the meatball sandwich & devoured it. I had the soup and salad. Tastey! Portions were ample and we even took an order of lasagna to go. What started with average service went downhill fast... we were a party of 14 and Alexa was our waitress. She was pleasant but clearly lacked help, and to be fair, a size such as ours should have been attended to by atleast 2 servers or a combo of server and assistant. Understandably, it's a Saturday night so she either had too many tables and/or management short staffed the shift. BTW, management was MIA. The biggest problem that occurred during our special family reunion dinner was when food was being delivered. The food runner set several entrees on the table so of course we all started plating ourselves (family style). Then abruptly, the same guy who put the food down began arguing to our server at our table that he needed to take the food back.. mind you.. several guests already helped themselves to it. The 2 of them literally went back and fourth arguing in front of us making it all so very awkward.. then finally he insisted that (name?) is demanding it back!!! No manager to resolve the situation, and what exactly were they going to do with the meal... re-serve it back to the "actual" table??? Personally, it left a bad taste and made for a very uncomfortable dinner. Alexa, was pleasant but she should have informed the manager immediately to address us, apologize, meal should of been left on the table as well as offer some kind of resolution. In a location full of restaurants and choices this is one place I will not recommend. My 3 stars is extremely generous!!!! read more

Tough call between making the decision of 3 or 4 stars. The food is definitely good but the prices certainly lower the VALUE. Then the food seems very average. The draw to this place is the atmosphere and there is no doubt that the place is decorated for fun events. There always seems to be a Birthday or anniversary in the restaurant. For large groups is actually not bad because you get to pick from many of the family dishes. The key is to not over-order like my family always does. I have loved many of the dishes here and other Buca di... all across the county. We even had the opportunity to visit the original in Minnesota on a road trip years ago. Service seems to be very similar at all restaurants so the company does a great job in management training, that doesn't mean it's always perfect like tonight's burnt pizza. And that's with the fact that my family likes their pizza well done! Tonight the pepperoni was even burnt and we had to scrape the charcoal off the crust. My families favorite item on the menu is the pizza. I don't get it either when they have such a huge variety of dishes. The other favorite, and I do get this one, is the Apple Garganzola salad. Since I recently decided to follow a vegan lifestyle I was worried. I mean three months ago I would never have picked the Marinera over the meat sauce and the garganzola is where the flavor is, right? Well not so fast, the Apple Garganzola-less (you don't know how clever I think I am right now) was absolutely delicious along with the house bread dipped in olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We did get some garganzola on the side for the non vegans at the table. So when the spaghetti and meatballs (of course I did not have the meatballs) came to the table I was very surprised how much I enjoyed the meal and felt satisfied. I understand that all the pasta here is vegan except for the fettuccine which contains egg. The service is typically pretty good at Buca... and tonight was no exception. Our waiter obviously chose not to mention the burnt pizza we left turned upside down to display the layer of charcoal on the bottom but the water cups were kept full and he did apologize for the fact that the pasta took so much longer than the pizza and salad. He explained that they came from two different kitchens. Since I was the only one not eating pizza, I was the only one affected at the table. If I had a few more vegans or people that enjoyed vegetables I would like to try and see if this restaurant would make Pasta Puttanesca vegan style (some recipes call for anchovies which I could not have). It has typically olives, capers, tomatoes, garlic... For a "fun" conversation you can tell your party the puttanesca means "whore style". I guess we know what they thought of being served pasta with no meat! read more

Recently visited the Fullerton location with the best friend and his adult son. The service was prompt and Itza our server was attentive and knowledgeable. She was training a new server that evening so we knew we were in good hands. The salad, pizza and pasta were all delicious, and you'll want to leave room for the birthday sundae, which is so much more than a promotional gift. This masterpiece of a dessert is ooey-gooey goodness with fudgey brownie bites, ice cream, whipped cream and more. I would be remiss if I didn't mention the house photographer. When he approached the table for the "complimentary postcard", while very friendly, he made assumptions about who was at the table which set the overall tone for the experience. The photographer first referred to us as "the folks", and then proceeded to suggest the best friend put his arm around his wife. Awkward, party of 3. When we corrected him, he said "oh, that's not the first time I've done that". Derek is a very nice young man who will bring you various options of photos to commemorate your evening. Although we've eaten at this Buca di Beppo in the past, this was the first time we had Bernise. Her professional, friendly and courteous service was, beyond what my wife and I ever expected. She knew the menu very well, and we never had to wait to have any of our requests filled. Her friendly and hospitable demeanor was a real pleasure. That made our dining experience truly "enjoyable." Great place to come with a group. Be prepared to wait a few minutes on a weekend. We showed up the same night as the local high schools were having their homecoming dinner dates. Eclectic decor and an odd floor plan add to the obvious over-the-top kitsch vibe this restaurant is aiming for. It's kitschy but not dirty. They walk you through the kitchen to be seated, interesting and smart. It was spotless with great plates coming out with glorious smells. They brought us bread, drinks and menus. We decided to play it safe and went with the spaghetti and meatballs with a side of Italian sausage. Everything was good! The bread was soft and warm, the gigantic portion of spaghetti with the giant meatballs was excellent, the sausage as tasty and perfectly dense. The meatballs were a bit "bready" but still good. I take my team here every year for our Christmas party. Food is always ok... nothing especially great, but the value is definitely there. This was a family first. We were here on a Monday night for an early dinner to celebrate our mom's birthday. We got seated right away & went through the kitchen (which I'm not sure is sanitary, but an interesting way to be seated). The ambience was overwhelming, but very cool to look at, & our waitress was friendly. The seating was a bit dirty & the table had crumbs (maybe from previous guests). Started with our drinks & complimentary bread with dip/sauce. We ordered the Trio di Buca (Feed 4 for 49.99), Caesar Salad, Chicken Parm & Green Beans. The salad had a few brown welts to it but still tasted great, chicken parm was cooked perfect & the green beans were a little bland. Overall, a good dinner. Not only was he very attentive but he was hilarious as well, he really turned this dinner into a night to remember. Decent chain restaurant with decently good food given the portion sizes (family style sharing). Service and hospitality is always great and never had any issues so five stars there. Great for groups and celebratory events, which is the only time I'm here. The food isn't bad but I wouldn't say it's something that leaves me craving or wanting to come back soon. I was not a fan of the complimentary plain white bread and olive oil. I would prefer if it were warmed or toasted and a better selection of the olive oil would greatly help. Food quality wise, probably a notch above Olive Garden though OG takes the medal on the bread. The Buca trio appetizer was good and portions were generous. Note that the cheese and mushrooms come in 4s. The linguine fruitte de mare was decent though several of the mussels remained closed in their shells. May not be super fresh, but the taste overall didn't seem to be off. The Arrabiata pizza was pretty good and I'd recommend getting that. It is served as a rectangle. The small is 1'x1' and has 9 slices. The large seems to be 2'x1' and double the slices. The large portions can actually serve 6 people. Our party of five was struggling to finish the large portion servings. If you have multiple dishes I'd recommend getting the small portion unless you want an arm workout taking home the leftovers. read more

I love this restaurant for as long as I can remember. The environment as a whole is so engaging and the staff is always so friendly! I got the lasagna this past time and was BLOWN away! We decided to come to this location after a baseball victory with a group of 16 (young kids and adults) last night at around 8pm and I must say we were having a good time and enjoying our food when it was abruptly interrupted by someone from management. I did not get his name but super unprofessional and rude. He basically told us that we were too loud and disrupting other tables. Mind you there was only 1 table near us around the corner and in our defense we were loud but that was only because we were having a good time, celebrating a win. If this individual wouldn't have came across so strong and combative then maybe things wouldn't have turned out the way they did. He really did kill the mood for us. After his "warning" he hid behind a curtain entryway by our table and was listening to our private conversation and then came back and started instigating and telling us that he will kick us out of his restaurant that he was trying to manage. I've worked in the food business for a long time and never have I experienced such a lack of customer service in my life. If he would of approached us in a nicer, genuine manner then that's all it would of taken to simmer down but it was quite the opposite, therefore it was not reciprocated.
