I discovered the Nordstrom Marketplace Café at Brea Mall back in January while working nearby, and it quickly became one of my go to spots. I only get a 30 minute break, so having something quick and good close by meant a lot to me. I have spent well over $100 here in the past month alone, and while I have genuinely enjoyed the food, my orders are frequently off in small ways like missing sauces, missing sides, or undercooked vegetables. I never complained about any of that because I understand things happen and I did not want to cause issues. The first time I ever called was March 10th when my chicken tenders were unusually tough. They remade it, but when I came to pick it up, I was treated very coldly by management like I had done something wrong just for speaking up. On March 26th, I received overcooked potatoes and called again. This was only the second time I have ever called despite multiple visits. After being on hold, Porsche got on the phone and told me this was becoming a pattern and that moving forward I would need to verify my food before leaving because they have no proof otherwise and cannot help if I do not eat in the restaurant. That honestly shocked me. Calling twice out of many visits is not a pattern, especially when I have overlooked several other mistakes without saying anything. It felt like I was being accused of trying to get free food, which is completely untrue. I also work in the mall and physically cannot sit and eat there. I have a 30 minute break, and by the time I walk there, order, wait, and walk back, I barely have time to eat. So being told they cannot help unless I dine in is unrealistic and unfair. Beyond that, I have consistently noticed a difference in how I am treated compared to other customers. Conversations feel short and dismissive, and it is honestly uncomfortable. Not that it should matter, but I am a working professional and influencer. I am not someone trying to get over or get free food. I simply expect the same respect as any other paying customer. The food can be good, but the customer service, especially in how concerns are handled, really needs improvement. I was offered to have the potatoes refried, at first I accepted but I decided not to support at ALL and wrote a formal complaint instead. I will not be back. read more

My friend and I came here for lunch around 10:50 AM and noticed a line forming to place orders before being seated. We placed our order while standing in line and were then escorted to our table, which made the process smooth and efficient. The food was good overall--my pasta was a bit on the salty side for my taste, but not enough to ruin the meal. I do wish they had a nice coffee option available; if they did, we would've stayed longer to enjoy it. Instead, we headed to Nordstrom coffee afterward. Came here after a shopping spreed with my daughter and place was not too busy. Staff here are nice and surprisingly the food was also very good too. Awesome place to get food without it feeling too fast or too casual. They have great customer service. Order at the counter and you will have a server to refill your drinks or add any additional orders for you. They give you mint chocolate at the end. Food is basic, but good! Came here with my daughter to grab a quick bite before doing a little shopping at the Brea Mall. She ordered the grilled salmon with couscous and I ordered the salmon Niçoise salad. Normally I enjoy their salmon dishes as I have had both in the past but today the chef/ cook way over cooked both of our salmons so it was both dry and tough. Sorry to say but it was not very enjoyable today and I usually love coming here. I upgraded my review to a 3 for the service which was very good. Food wise I was not as happy since it is a pricier lunch. I don't mind spending the money if the food is enjoyable. Not so enjoyable today. read more

The last time we dined here our experience was less than par. Service was slow and there was no shrimp available for my salad. One of our favorite managers, Jamie, had left about a week prior and we decided not to return to dine here...until yesterday. It was convenient because we were shopping in the mall. It's been a long time since I've been to a Marketplace Cafe, but during the holidays I decided to have breakfast with my mom here since she has never tried it before and wanted to check it out for herself. First you have to place your order at the counter and once that is done and you have paid you can take a seat at any of the tables. We sat at a booth because I'm not really a fan or regular chairs. They aren't comfortable. I wasn't especially hungry so I had a cup of coffee and a bowl of clam chowder soup. My mom has their traditional breakfast which is pretty simple and done pretty good. Overall I never had their clam chowder before but thought it was alright and it was pretty filling. The cup of coffee is refillable, just ask the waiter when they are next to you. read more

I've been meeting a friend of mine here for years because Brea mall is about halfway between where we each live. I used to like this cafe when I ate a vegetarian diet but now I eat a vegan diet and they are not accommodating at all. My friend loves the food so I've given them several chances but next time I'm going to suggest something else because the staff is borderline rude and definitely dismissive when I've asked if I can make any dish vegan. I'm paying full price and just to leave off meat and dairy (not even requesting a substitution) but they can't seem to be bothered to be helpful. But Arley my all time favorite sever is the biggest reason why my family and I keep coming back every week! She's very professional knows her job your drinks will always be full, bread will plentiful and she always comes back to make sure that you are happy with your meal! I came to the Nordstrom Cafe for lunch as I was short on time and was attending event within the mall. I have eaten numerous times at the Cafe in Fashion Valley so I hoped the food and service was as great as the other location. It was! I ordered the Santa Fe Chicken Sandwich. It was super delicious but quite messy. Don't get if you don't want to screw up your makeup as you will need lots of napkins. The chicken itself was a bit bland but with all of the extra items, the sandwich was quite delicious. The first thing I noticed was the fantastic bread. It was perfectly grilled and crispy, not crunchy. The cheese was melted just right. You can't go wrong with ripe avocado and the sweet red pepper added another level of flavor. Everything was tied together with the sauce. Along side of the sandwich, you get a cute little bag of homemade chips. They were unusual but very good. Super crispy & crunchy but light like a kettle chip. I was glad they were not oily. They weren't spicy as I expected but had a rich mesquite flavor almost bbq like. There are quite a few booths that seat four people along the perimeter of the restaurant while tables are spread within the middle. If you are lucky, you can seat at a window to get a view of the outside trees and foliage. Waiters come by to bring your food and drink order to you. We needed to get something at the mall for our favorite teen so we decided to eat at the Marketplace café before shopping. What a brilliant lunch we had! Our table had a French dip, a cilantro lime chicken salad, tortellini with spinach/alfredo sauce and a kids salmon plate. Everything was delicious (although some more than others), presentation was great and service was pretty good. Here's what would make this a 5 star experience: ***Food: The big winner on the food was the tortellini. The baby has had the kids cheese tortellini before and I can attest, that is special. The French Dip was good but not great and the chicken in the salad had a couple bad pieces which is a little bit of a turn-off. ***Service tweaks: It was a busy Sunday so I understand that the food takes time to come out. The service was fine but it was really hard to get a refill on my decaf and staffing up just a touch would earn 5 stars. The food is expensive so that's why I feel like it takes a little more to earn 5 stars. For 3 and 1/2 people it was over $60 bucks, but it was definitely a lovely time and we'll be back! read more

It's the classist order at the counter, then table service from that point forward restaurant I've ever been at. The service is pretty first class all the way. You do order before you sit down, but from that point on, it's 100% table service. The food was most excellent! We both had the French Dip. The meat was medium to medium rare, top grade beef. The roll had the perfect blend of parmesan cheese to roll (sorry, can't remember the name of the bread it was one, but it was good!). They served chips instead of fries, which was actually perfect for lunch. We then had the lemon cookie for desert. Oh wow! Just enough light lemon taste with a light cake type cookie. Perfection. Had to take 2/3's of it home because we were so full from the French Dips. So since it's Nordstrom's, it's not cheap. Plan on $20 per person if you're getting a drink. And even though you order at the counter, you should still tip. The service we got warranted it. read more

Yelp 2014 Challenge #71/100 Let us forget about the price for a moment. The quality that comes with it will take care of it no problem.. With the family we had the tomato basil soup, the spicy shrimp with angel hair and the chicken club. The chicken club was alright for me- it had the necessary ingredients in it and they didn't skimp on the avocado. The tomato basil tasted delish. It wasn't viscous but it wasn't hard either. I actually think my roommates have come really close to matching making this tomato soup! But this one outmatches other tomato soups out there! Everyone else's is watery and whatnot (add more water to make it cheap) but the cafe doesn't hold back! Get it! The shrimp though. Oh man. Was that the best part of my meal. Their shrimp was perfect, cooked just right and even had the crunch (so you know it wasn't frozen) that others have lacked.
