Very creative for a chain restaurant. I loved the pope room. We ate in the wine room with wine bottles hanging all over the ceiling. The wine bottles made me a little nervous. What would happen if there was an earthquake? After I stopped thinking about the wine bottles, I started enjoying the evening. The service was very friendly. We ordered an appetizer, a side of broccoli and a clam/mussels pasta. It was delicious and more than enough for us. We set up our work holiday dinner here. I heard it was easy to make reservations with this Buca (just make sure you don't call last min). This Buca was tucked away in Redondo. If you don't know Buca di Beppo's it's a family style restaurant...every item on the menu is medium or large and there are no windows to any Buca's. You don't have small individual portions at Buca's. Go big and go plentiful! Our waitress was awesome, I don't remember her name. She took good care of us and was in a very festive holiday mood. Maybe I'm just partial to tomatoes, but their white sauce dishes (like their Alfredo) could use more salt or maybe more Parmesan. You can never go wrong with more cheese, am I right? I do NOT like leaving negative reviews, so I am going to just state the facts about my our dinner (and you will probably agree with my rating). FYI I timed everything: 1. My daughter's Birthday dinner celebration on a MONDAY night. Had reservations at 5:45. But did not get seated until 6:45. 2. Ordered at 6:50. Got salad at 7:15. Finally Got some bread at 7:28. Did not get dinner served until 7:48. Finished dinner at 8:12 and ordered desert. Got desert at 8:28. Finished and paid at 8:42. Server was nice but could not really do anything to speed things along. 3. We ordered Salad, 2 pastas and 1 vegetable. How hard is it to prepare this? Total was $140+ with desert, parking and tips but NO drinks. This included a 50% off deal for 1 spaghetti and Meatballs. 4. Parking is forced Valet for $4? Really there is a huge back parking lot 80% empty? So bit pricey basic Italian Meal that took a forever 3 hours. Food was decent and relatively large portions. However salad is overpriced. Ambiance and decor is nice but there is a cold major draft in back seating. This was the first time I have ever eaten here. But others have told me it is "always like this." Not too sure why they even took our reservation KNOWING it was my daughter's birthday and also KNOWING That they could not even provide basic timely service? I will usually give places a second, even 3rd chance......I got a call from my wife that her family wanted to have dinner before some of them went away for the holidays...they were asking for Italian, and someone mentioned BDP...She said we can skip, but me being a team player and trying to be the good husband said "sure, why not, can try it again...it isn't going to be like last time with all the graduation stuff" We had a group reservation for 6pm on a Sunday night. Due to the string of events leading up to the dinner, we arrived about 540ish (was easier to come straight here as opposed to going home, unloading kids,coming back). We got to the hostess and checked in, She did say "yes your table is ready, do you want to just wait here(the lobby)?" I said we can sit at the table, and order the kids dinner(we knew if everyone showed at 6, and ordered right away, food isnt there until 630, so it wasnt fair to just make the kids wait) We waited about 5 minutes for the hostess to seat us at a table that was already ready(the place was maybe 1/2 full, if that)...Ordered the kids meal and a drink each and waited for the family to show up. Everyone orders and does their thing...We dont really see the waitress all that much, she was nice, polite, attentive, just didnt reacall seeing her much. At about 625, I really couldnt take it too much, even though the place was empty, all the tables in the area were crowded and cramped together, and as usual there is birthday screaming. I took the baby out and walked around. After waling for a few min, came back to see the salads are being served, followed by the food. Everyone seemed to like the food, I walked again, and had to changed the baby, forgetting about the changing station that was up to my chest. The bathroom was a mess and has a broken stall. Took the little guy outside, even though it was raining, since it was a little more peaceful. The staff were moving around fast asusual, and I heard the common "I need to get by you"....At 715, I got a message from my wife that our other child was ready to go. I was trying to get our diaper pack and jackets since I was standing behind a chair, I must have heard 6-7 time "need to get by you", and it wasnt multiple people...give me like two minutes to get my crap together so i can leave. As we are walking out, I take my older one to the bathroom and as I am leaving, someone asks me did you have a good night, and I lost my shit....I asked about who installed the changing table and if any of them had kids. I got blank stares...so I said, when you close, go in the bathroom and pretend to change a baby, cause that is a joke. And we walked out... Now going back to just before I got up to walk around, my wife aunt said how she loved it there so much and I casually said "I don't....." She laughed and thought I was kidding.... This review will be about the food and that's it since it was take-out. Ordered: Chicken Marsala: It has some nice sweet sauce to it with plenty of mushrooms. Only 3 pieces of chicken. That's it just 3? Yes for the price which was $27. Yikes $9 for each chicken. Pepperoni Pizza: Grease pit. It was already soggy when we got it home. With all that grease I can fill my car and it can probably get me to Ralph's down the street from me. The pepperoni was okay. One thing was they gave out a free pizza for Valentine's Day which was just cheese, tomato sauce, and basil. They maybe an Italian type restaurant and feel but they fail at cooking it. I don't know what the Fettuccine Alfredo would of tasted like since I wanted to order that but didn't, but hopefully better. We were not given the pumpkin pie included with the thanksgiving meal.. how does this happen? We weren't advised of this either.. Turkey was dry and tasted old or reheated for sure.. disgusting! Because the prices can be outrageous if you are only a party of 2. I had a $20 coupon. So why not try it rather than olive garden. Big mistake. Got a menu and wondered what the price of the entre was. Chicken Parmesan $34. Does not include spaghetti that an extra $24. Add salad another $24 (or more) 9 oz glass of commercial wine $20. The explained the entrees feed atleast 2 if not three, so you have to want the same entre. Forget it. Buca di Beppo claims to be a family restaurant. Not my definition of a family restaurant. Place was nearly empty. Went to Olive garden instead. Wait was 45 minutes, good food at fair prices but worth it. Never attempted to dine at a restaurant that operates in a deceptive fashion. Buca di Beppo is great if you have a large group and want chow down on a huge quantities of food. It't loud so don't plan on having any meaningful conversation and the seating isn't exactly comfortable. Buck get crazy busy so if you don't have a reservation plan on a long wait. If you're there during a holiday forget about it. They keep the wait staff moving fast! If it's crazy busy service can be a challenge. You may have to wait for drink refills and it your order may take a long time to be prepared. The food is generally pretty good. They have many dishes to choose from with lots of variety. As I said earlier the portions tend to be large so if you're a small party you'll either be limited to a couple of choices from the menu or you will have lots of left overs to talk home. If you're large party go, go wild and try as much as you can. We have had a couple of bad experiences. They seem to have some challenges with their meatballs being under cooked or in some cases raw in the side. Meatball tartar is not a good thing. Aside from the few occasional misses it's usually a pretty fun evening for everyone. Expect to be worn out and on the verge of a food coma when it comes time to pay the bill. read more

We walked in and the Manager, Mike greeted us and struck up a conversation with my son about his colorful socks. As he took us to our table, we walked through the kitchen. He seated us in the kitchen. I was so shocked. I've been to Buca in Santa Monica several times and seen kitchen table, but have never seen anyone sitting there. The staff was so nice. They showed us every dish as the servers were coming to receive them. Mike gave my son a taste of some fresh Gnocchi. His eyes lit up! He said that it was so good. We ordered an appetizer, fried calamari. For dinner we had a pizza and an order of Fettuccine Alfredo with chicken. I had a glass of red house wine. The food was so delicious. We were stuffed! There was as lady who came by and took photos of us. Mike got a copy of a family portrait, framed it and put it on the wall. Okay so compared to Olive Garden, the customer service was not as attentive or as welcoming. The waiter and also the host didn't really greet us when we caught there. but the food was pretty good but just it was a bit expensive, which it's for family size servings. It was my first time and it was an overall B+ experience. One of the server who was not our waiter, served us our food of fettuccine Alfredo , placed it on the table and then said "hold up!" & pick back up and went to showed the people on another table our food. I didn't really think that was appropriate and kinda rude for not asking us first. Like it's our food we paying for. Thought that was weird! And our waiter just didn't smile that much. I opened the box and there was at least 2 lbs of pasta and two big meatballs. I put some on my plate and noticed there wasn't any sauce. How do you eat pasta without sauce. Then I tried to eat the meatball. They forgot to put the meat in it. It was all filler. I've never tasted a meatball as dry as this one. It was a bread crumb meatball and no sauce. I ate a couple bites and threw it away. Even at 1/2 off it was a waste. My dog wouldn't even eat the meatball. I know times are tough right now but come on. Arrived on time but we had to wait in a crowded hallway in the middle of a pandemic for more than an hour after our order was supposed to be ready. The only reason I come here is for the LINGUINE FRUITTI DI MARE, fried calamari and dessert. Other than that I haven't really been swooned with their other dishes. The salads are okay. The CHICKEN & EGGPLANT PARMIGIANA seem over cooked-dry. I had a pizza awhile ago and it was okay but not memorable. The facility is definitely made for family style and only a few places have the mio portion. I've had my highschool and college graduation here. Service is good but sometimes it can be slow but then again they're serving huge parties most of the time. And the bar... oh the bar. You can never go wrong w/ a bar. On another note, I got a to go the other night. My bread was stale (which was a 1st), I tried the SEAFOOD CANNELLONI (limited time special) and it was gross. The filling was soooo dry and the lobster creme sauce had no lobster flavor. Plus I only got 2 cannelloni shells for the mio. WTF only 2?!?!?! I was bloody hungry and if it was even good that wouldn't have filled me. My friend got a small CHICKEN W/ LEMON and he got only 2 measly breasts. Small is supposed to be larger than a mio. I couldn't even take a bite off his entree because the 2 breast couldn't fulfill his meal. He didn't get anything else with it. So the two measly breasts sat in a puddle of butter lemon and capers in an aluminum container, lonely, very lonely. I like the warm spinach salad and the fried mozzarella appetizer the most. The atmosphere is also a lot of fun and, yes, it is loud. Buca is def a place to go with a large group. 12 of us went for New Years and it was a blast! If you go here with a friend or on a date you'll be overwhelmed by having to talk over others and you'll notice all the flaws of this place (the annoying valet lot in the back, the dirty menus and the kids running and throwing food on the floor). This place is perfect for a big group seeking a family style dinner. The food is just okay. The service is pretty good. I love carbonara in extremely small portions because it's typically too rich and creamy for my taste. The carbonara here is no exception. It's just too much! The chicken parm sits for a while and gets soggy. The calamari isn't too bad, actually, considering it's a chain restaurant! I preferred the penne arrabiatta over the carbonara-- but it's served with two ginormous Italian sausages on top, which is just... weird. The pizzas are a bit too greasy for my taste-- definitely unsettling later on in the day. The last time I came here I tried their ginormous dessert-- served in a giant martini glass type contraption. It came with brownies, vanilla and chocolate ice cream, and whipped cream. We shared with a bunch of people, so it wasn't too heavy. The house wine wasn't too bad, though! The best part of my last experience here was sitting at the "Pope's table." LOL The lazy Susan has a bust of a Pope with his hands folded together. I enjoy Bucca do Beppo from time to time, but having Cibely as our server makes me want to have it everyday. She always checks up on you, making sure you're not empty handed or without a drink.
