(I forgot to ask for it once, and the waitress rolled her eyes when she had to go back to the kitchen for something she should've asked about in the first place). A friend swears by the beef liver with onions, also. But the sides and desserts could use a little work. The side salad is nothing special (and they bring it with the rest of your meal). The mac 'n' cheese is soupy stuff people make with a mix. The desserts also seem to be short-cut things using mixes: I couldn't even eat the piece of cake I had last time; after one taste, the bitter fake icing completely turned me off. The cobblers taste like they use canned fruit fillings. And the bread pudding had a sickly sweet canned sauce poured over it; it was inedible. I don't expect gourmet meals from a "home cooking" restaurant, but I do expect the food to be a step above being poured out of a can or made with a mix. Also, just a note: it's rude to ask the person at the table who gets dessert free what they want and ignore the other people at the table. You could at least say, "Dessert doesn't come with your meal, but would you like to order a dessert?" The good sides here, again, are the fried things: fried okra, fried green tomatoes, etc. I suppose these are the things that keep me coming back and keep my rating of this restaurant at a 4. Most of the servers are great as well. Despite my criticism of some of the sides and the desserts, it's still one of my favorite places to eat in Dawsonville.

While I was eating my brisket taco and dipping it in the salsa, my daughter noticed a hair in it. I pulled it out myself and it was a white and brown beard hair. Completely disgusting. I told the manager and he acted concerned at first, but then set my food right back down in front of me before realizing the hair was still sitting there. He said he would take it off the ticket, but when we got the bill, the tacos with the hair in the salsa were STILL on the check. After finding a beard hair in my food, why would I want replacement food? At that point I was grossed out wondering how many hairs I may have already eaten. The table I was given had just been cleaned and covered with standing water (see my photo of the sheen). Thereafter, the pacing of the meal was much faster. I ordered the shrimp and grits and added a single blueberry pancake on the side. The shrimp and grits had a great proportion of delicious roux filled with shrimp (small but plentiful) and andouille sausage with that perfect signature flavor. It was topped with a poached egg and served with a perfectly flaky biscuit. The pancake they delivered was equally tasty, although it looked rough - broken surface and irregularly shaped and much browner on the bottom than the top, but it was nice. There was plenty of jam on the table for the biscuit. Service was okay, and I had to get a straw from a nearby supply table and getting refills and the payment processed was a tad slow.
