I've been going to Bucks since I was a kid, and I have no idea what's happened to this place. This morning, I had possibly the worst breakfast I've ever paid for. The potatoes were old and mealy, the eggs tasted cheap and overcooked, the toast was stale, and the sausage was greasy and low-quality. If this were a diner, ok--but when you're charging $35 for breakfast, am I paying for the decor on the walls? I'm genuinely sorry to write this, but I don't think I'll be coming back to Bucks. You're better off heading next door to Village Bakery or Café Borrone. RIP Bucks. read more

We sat outside on a lovely night. Great setting and excellent service. The food was really good. I had the French Onion soup and loved it. Very cheesy, just the perfect onion flavor, and not too much or too little salt - just right. Nice bites of bread. We also had the Roasted Brussels Sprouts and they were a big hit. Food: This is not a Michelin star eatery but for a traditional American spot, food was surprisingly top notch. Experience was great. Cactus Margarita - 4/5 - Nice flavor, although more sweet than spicy. Brim is crusted with salt and spice which did the trick. Cobb Salad - 5/5 - Great size, fresh grilled chicken, and generous amount of bacon and blue cheese. Garlic Bread - 3/5 - Toasted well, nice flavor, melted cheese sprinkles. I am a garlic fiend and thought it could've had real garlic on top, as it just seemed to have garlic butter. Nachos - 5/5 - Prepared with most chips having a copious amount of toppings. Not "authentic" but was super fresh from the home-made chips to the sliced avocados. French Onion Soup - 5/5 - They provide the definition of this. So much cheese, with the staple flavor there. Rye bread inside with sautéed onions galor. Cheeseburger - 5/5 - Star of the night for me. Fresh, cheesy, and overall as flavorful as can be. Better than In-N-Out. The juice meet paired well with the soft brioche and crunchy lettuce. Will be hard not to order this again. Fries - 4/5 - Plentiful and addicting with taste and crunch. A few tasted overcooked although nothing ketchup can't fix. Baby Back Ribs - 3/5 - Nice presentation and flavor was there. Did not fall off the bone but it did the job. Fried Chicken Sandwich - 2/5 - Chicken patty seemed small amidst the brioche bun and coleslaw. Flavor was there but just a tad dry. Did not own up to the other dished. Mac & Cheese - 3/5 - Really creamy with a taste of sharp cheese. Served with breadcrumbs and a carrot on top. Too creamy for my liking but flavor was addicting. Service: Friendly, fast, attentive. Did not seem to be bothered when waved down for more water, napkins, etc. Ambiance: Quirky. Decoration appears random but playful. At first glance it appeared a hoarder's paradise, but after roaming around it actually contains whimsical to extremely valuable collectables. After a long hike, it was nice to enjoy a relaxing place with a cool atmosphere. The place itself is decorated with so many different things from way back when to present and it's something you have to see. The service was great as we were seated promptly and served wonderfully. My hiking partner and I usually split a meal and we split an albacore tuna melt with fries and a salad. Very filling even at half. We both enjoyed a margarita and a drink called a garden party. Very tasty. I miss their peach cobbler. Also, my understanding is that when kids come, they do a scavenger hunt to find certain things on the wall and on the shelves and I believe they get a price. But went back this past weekend and the food was cold...ordered new food and that food came out cold too...mentioned it to the waiter and she offered to remove the second food item from the bill. Was given the bill without the item removed, when I questioned the waiter she said that she couldn't remove it (she's the one who offered to remove it to begin with) and that we would have to talk to her manager. Went here after a hike in Crystal Springs. The inside decor is quite cute but we decided to go with outdoor seating since it was a nice day outside. Not sure if the service inside, but outside service was not that great. It was hard to get a waiter out to take our orders and every time we did need something it was a different waiter every time. As for the food, I enjoyed the ribs and the mac n cheese we got as an appetizer. However, didn't particularly like the pizza and would not recommend. read more

Fries come with both - good thicker fry with a variety of soft and crunch (but still tender) Vibe: outdoor seating has umbrellas and heaters. Inside is a museum (of sorts). Has a bar. Hello Jamis, I am sitting here at your restaurant in Woodside, Buck's, next to the Apple computer memorabilia signed by Steve Wozniak. Since I'm curious, I inquired about the "museum" feel of this very colorful dining establishment. Horacio, kindly, gave me a little tour. Wow! So much Silicon Valley history! How cool! Since I have already done a review about the restaurant, this one will focus on the museum! I learned that a lot of Silicon Valley's executives hang out here. Elon musk and Amber Hearst had a date right at that table. Steve Wozniak signed one of the 200 first Apple computers which is exhibited. Joan Baez lived not far from here and dined here a few times. I am sure there are hundreds of stories to be told about the establishment. You'll just have to come and set time to visit all the various memorabilias! read more

I have come here numerous times, always after hiking in the area. They consistently provide great service and great food. I always get breakfast although they have lunch items too. I had the French toast most recently and it was so good! Bottomless coffee was the cherry on top! The last time I was here, they added outdoor seating which really expanded the space. The only downside to this is it has limited parking. My friends looked for parking for 20 minutes before having to park down the street, a solid 10-15 min walk away. read more

My husband and I have been here twice now and both times were a let down. The food was not good and the service was very rude. My husband has mobility issues and they told us they couldn't seat us at a table due to reservations. The place was empty!! The server we had knew nothing about the history of the place and told us to just read the menu. She also never checked in on us during our meal. The food tasted frozen and old. Buck's feels like it could be a museum. It's super cozy and is known as a meeting place for Sand Hill tech moguls and I can see why. The walls are covered with artifacts and trinkets that create an inspiring atmosphere which gets those creative juices flowing. It's the kind of place where you can easily lose track of time, engrossed in conversation. They even have a treasure hunt for kids, encouraging everyone to explore the diner. Surprisingly, the food exceeded my expectations. Mushroom Pizza: had the perfect blend of mushrooms and arugula, they don't skimp on the cheese so its very filling, shareable among 3 people BLTA: loved the focaccia bread which had great rosemary and olive oil flavor, the tomatoes were fresh and the bacon was solid Salmon Tacos: these were a bit of a miss, they were a struggle to get down because to the overly fishy taste of the salmon To round off the meal, I had vanilla shake, which was delicious. Love the place. Food is very good, but kinda pricey. This place is like going to a museum - so much cool stuff in there. And every "artifact" has an interesting story. Really fun to explore it. Been here a bunch of times - it's just a fun place to go, but I feel like the prices are just kinda tourist prices or something. I guess they have to pay for all of those artifacts... :-) It's still worth going there. I'll keep going back. I went to Bucks because I heard they had a decent hamburger and some cute interesting decor much similar to Mel's diner with lots of classic stuff. Bucks is definitely charming and decorated well as you can see in my pictures and I hope that when you do visit bucks that you're careful with what you order. The wonderful decore does not match the food. I ordered their classic burger - supposed to be a "Smash Burger" but from what I can tell the overcooked salty burger was frozen. Similar to a fast food burger - I compare their burger to the classic six dollar at Burger King or In and Out. The bun was packaged - there is a bakery right next door - they could easily bake fresh buns that would match the 18.00 price for an overcooked burger, I started with an eight dollar side salad it was the best part of the 21.00 meal. The lettuce was a bit wilted but the ranch dessing might have been freshly made. When the Burger was served - it arrived sliding off the plate - with frozen fries - they would have to prove to me that Bucks cuts their own fries. The was soggy and easily a packaged day old or two bun. The meat was over cooked and salty - look at the pic where I cut the sandwitch in half. I was a bit nosy and peeked at some of the other dishes the regulars were ordering. The Ribs did look good and the pizza seemed ok - but based on the Burger I ordered - i would guess their pizza's were premade or pre purchased. Consistently subpar food. It is actually kind of gross. Onion rings were flavorless and very greasy. Hamburger was saturated in thousand island dressing so the lettuce & bun were mushy and incredibly messy. French fries flavorless and somehow seemed old, like they came from someone else's plate. Chicken tenders definitely microwaved from frozen. I think Buck's is pulling a fast one on patrons who don't know any better. Surprisingly great experience! I've been here several times over the years and I know they got new owners a few years ago but even just about 2 years ago it was still not great. Well, tonight Bucks was great! Maybe they've gotten a new chef or fine tuned their recipes but the food is much improved from recent past. Their smash burger was great. Others in my party got the ribs and chicken sandwich and they also enjoyed it. I also got a margarita which was pretty good considering that this is basically a diner. Stepping inside this diner is like stepping into a museum of notable events in tech, entertainment, and general nerd culture. SO AWESOME! From the license plate from Get Smart, to a keyboard for the PalmPilot, to a software box from Microsoft Windows 1.0, boxes w butterflies, .... The list goes on. 2) food is solid. Sweet potato fries nice balance of crisp, meaty, and salt. No excessive skin is nice. Grilled cheese sandwich (off menu) substantial amount of cheese and not too much bread, again without the frequent oil that sweats off the cheese. The milk shakes are big so sharing is a good idea so that you don't need to be rolled out. The millionaires bacon was thick and beautifully done, balancing crisp and meatiness. Avocado toast is generously and seclusion (per my friends). Parking is a bit challenging and there are lots of cyclists on the weekends. But your patience will be rewarded. read more

We finally got seated. The service was pretty good. Our waitress was very good and accommodating. Her name was Tina. She always made sure our drinks were filled and double check on us on our food. We sat outside which the weather wasn't too bad but when it started to slow down we noticed some bees that we attracted. Other then the bees and flies. I cannot complain. The food was very good. I got the fried chicken steak with mash potatoes. The portion was big. My mom got the Tuna sandwhich with fries and my son ordered grill cheese sandwhich. He enjoyed their milk shakes. Service was a tad slow. Took a while for us to get menus and for the server to come to us. Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Got a double smashed burger no bun, no lettuce with fries. Also ordered the strawberry shake. The shake was not very strawberry flavored but had strawberry pieces. The base tasted weird. The burger and fries were basic. I was meeting a friend for dinner and we decided to meet halfway at Woodside. I wanted to try something other than Village Pub and decided to pick Buck's which looked off the beaten path. I am so glad I did. The decor by itself is worth the visit. It is rustic and super kitschy but in a nice way. There is so much to see and I could have spent an hour looking at everything they have. Odd stuff but again in a good way. Go check it out and you will know what I mean. Our waitress was very nice. The food was surprisingly very good. Unfortunately, the outdoor seating is gone. We had the dog so ended up eating elsewhere. On previous visits, the food and service were good.

I had the Veggie Power Bowl, but it wasn't very good. The indoor dining was a nice casual/fine atmosphere. Kids were given a treasure hunt list of things to find on the highly decorated walls. The staff were warm and friendly. My dining companions enjoyed their meals. There is ample adjacent parking and a nice wooden bench on the porch if you have to wait. My California family said the place was good for spotting billionaire, so I naturally concluded that the food would be great, well we didn't spot any billionaires and I couldn't eat my meal. My best American friend took me to this place because she knows me very well! I really loved everything there! It's a museum with interesting stories about American culture. I also loved because I love places with different and amazing decor! And, she knows how I love to visit places with delicious food! We had breakfast and I ordered Big Bucks! What can I say? Buck's is a Woodside, if not Bay Area, institution. I've only done breakfast and lunch here so I'll stick to that... the food is great (fresh and solid flavors) , and the menu has a nice variety. I've never had to wait for a seat, even with a group. The walls are teeming with oddities so take time to roam and read before you leave... lots of local history captured there. Frankly one of the reasons I keep coming back is for their fried chicken sandwich and fries.. holy lord... it's good. Like, REALLY good. OH - and BIG caveat is PARKING. It's a nightmare, I won't lie, but if you can go off hours or have time to drive around, you can luck out. They have 20 minute zones so if you eat fast, you'll luck out there too.
