Kitsch meets.... mediocrity. Don't get me wrong, the food was ... all right. And the service was ... okay. If the prices were a little lower, and it didn't feel like they were aspiring to be some kind of trendy New American place, it would be ... not bad. If I had gotten that food at a diner, I would have been impressed. But I had looked at their menu online prior to my visit, and the prices were a bit higher than diner level, and everything about it felt like it was trying a little too hard to be creative, without the actual skill to pull it off. So-so burgers. Meats cooked unremarkably, with sauce simultaneously overly rich, overly salted, and bland. Nothing to write home about. But, the kisch was interesting, so there's that. read more

For years I have been on a quest to find the perfect bloody mary. My quest ended here at Buck's. Spicy, rich flavor and I come to find one of the ingredients to make it click was beef bouillion. Chased down with an ice cold Coors Light. The breakfast was maybe one of the better Chorizo scrambles of all time. Scrambled with yellow and red peppers and onion. I have been to Buck's a handful of times since I moved to the area and your meal is just part of the experience of this restaurant. I believe that many people come here strictly to look at all of the bizarre decorations. Parking can be a bit tight, so if you're meeting a larger party, factor in an additional 5 minutes or so to circle the lot. Once you come inside, depending on the time of day/day of week, you may have to wait 15+ minutes for a table. However, there is plenty to look at and keep you entertained during your wait. When you come here, it is like a different experience with every table you get seated at because the decor varies so widely. The carpeting is this hilarious alligator (crocodile?) print, the ceiling is filled all sorts of hanging items, the walls are covered with custom license plates, bronzed baby shoes, over-sized dog bones, magnifying glasses, and cereal box toys, you name it. The best way I can really describe it is to say it looks like someone got high and went on eBay and just started buying a bunch of random stuff. The first time I ever came here, their special was this delicious corn cake breakfast that was fantastic! Every time I come back here, I hope that it will be on the menu or it will be the special again, but it never is. Buck's does, however, have a decent selection for vegetarians, so it is still possible to fill up without having to ask for meat to be removed from items on the menu. I have grown accustomed to ordering the build-your-own-omelette, but my husband likes to get the breakfast 2.0 dish which I think is an egg-white omelette with boca burger grounds and fat free swiss cheese. I really like their home fries, which come as a side with most of the breakfast dishes. While I wouldn't say that the food is spectacular, it is still very good, and I'm always excited when someone suggests we go eat at Buck's. read more

I loved visiting this area! I came here for a meeting and the staff and food were exquisite. I ordered the Dueling Louis Armstrong, half and half of dungeness crab and shrimp salad. It was great! Ate at Buck's tonight. Wanted to try Chicken Chicken in Burlingame but it burnt to the ground just hours before I arrived. So we skipped over to Buck's. I had to see what you Yelpers we buzzing about... Wow. It did not disappoint. This is a heart attack on a plate kind of place. Loved it! Lots of charm. We ate at the bar. A great place to have a REALLLL brunch with the girls in the Peninsula! Came here this morning as part of our SATC Sunday: Mimosas, brunch with the girls then a 2:20 showing of SATC in downtown RWC. It was SATC Day for us and apparently Tour De Woodside Day for this town - don't know if seeing cyclists is the norm but they clearly run this side of town! First time here and I loved just about everything - the local crowd, the numerous options, the mimosas and the company. We ordered the French Toast made with Crescent Dough, Melter Cheddar/Crab Sandwich, Chicken Apple Sausage, Silver Dollar Pancakes and one of the Omelettes, 2 coffee's and 4 mimosas. Loved everything except they ran out of the crescent dough for the french toast so MINUS ONE STAR. =( I'll have to go back and try it but all and all - a great place for weekdays or weekends - I only wish it wasn't 14 miles away from me! All of the above minus the French Toast = $24/person including tax. Just don't get lost and do what I did - drove East of the 280 as opposed to West of 280 - Buck's is located WEST. read more

Finally came here with the wife after living in Redwood City for 9 friggin' years! The restaurant is hella eclectic- tons of random wall and booth decor! Since I've only been here one time, I'm thinking this place is always hopping- it was packed at 9am on a weekday...doesn't anyone work anymore, geez. Anyway, we were lucky to be seated quickly and in a booth. The menu is extensive and wayyyyy too many choices to choose from! I chose the chorizo scramble since I rarely get to eat chorizo and the wife chose the croissant french toast- I was hella jealous. It was to die for, no joke. Stopped by here after a hike last weekend and it was exactly what the doctor ordered- full of kitschy conversation pieces, loud patrons, and packed to the gills. We waited 20 mins for a table late morning, no big deal. The food: Guri had an omelette filled with veggies- Ajay had the Huevos- I had Huevos envy, it looked really yummy and I think it was vegetarian too I had a boca burger with fries- yes, I'm not very original but it sure was good. Kinda steep prices for a diner, but not for a down-home local joint in CA- $25 for the three of us- good value because the food was a step up from diner food and the service was spot-on too. The service: our waitress was astounding! She was all over the place, getting ranch dressing, getting butter, balancing multiple plates, picking up crayons...all with a smile on her face. She was tall and blonde with a great smile, I hope next time she waits on us again. Also our backwaiter was there for water and coffee refills, although our waitress refilled us a few times too (it was a long hike) - The ambiance: there was a glass door with two accordians behind it and the sign said "in case of emergency, break glass and save accordians" -gotta love a place who's looking out for their accordions. Bucks is a fun, great restaurant with good food. The atmosphere here is all about fun. You could spend your entire time looking around at all the cool stuff on the walls and ceiling. The new carpet is also really cool and the story on the menu about how the design was created and made is good reading! The servers are always quite fun. Very friendly and it seems they enjoy being there which is totally refreshing! The food is what my body wants after a long ride and I've been really happy with ordering the Harry's Bar Steak Sandwich. Mmmmmmmmm, good! My friends love ordering breakfast here and have ordered a bunch of different pancakes, omelettes and waffles and so far, no one has been disappointed! The only down side is that if you come at the wrong time, there may be a 45min to 1 hr wait for a table for 4. read more

I think we were always under the impression that there's a long wait and that it was extremely pricey or something, but we were wrong. I've eaten here about 3 times in the past several months and we've always been seated pretty quickly. In fact, we came in on a Saturday (yesterday) and our group of 6 was seated immediately around noonish. Pricing is somewhat reasonable, though I can see why people can say that it's a little bit towards the pricier end. I love the feel of the restaurant. Very unique and lots to look at. You'll never be bored. Service has always been friendly and attentive each time I've dined there. I ordered the same thing 3x (Filoli Garden Omelette) with a side of salsa. Oh so yummy!! Potatoes were cooked perfectly each time!! I almost finished all of them (and I usually leave a lot of potato on my plate at other restaurants). The only thing is that when I got my omelette, it wasn't a very generous portion, kinda smallish. I figure I need portion control anyways. I have to admit, it was cooked perfectly none the less. Finally got to Buck's after the bf's been yapping about munchin' here and whaddya know it's about a 15 minute drive from my apt! So, we get to the place and oh kyoot-stamp...horses parked outside! Inside, there's so many different types of chandeliers hanging and paraphernalia up the wahoo! My eyes just couldn't stop wandering. We were also seated pretty quickly and given bread, water and menus as we sat down. Can you say speedy? I'd been hearing such wonderful things about this place over the years, and finally had the chance to check them out. Unfortunately for me, I arrived just after 11, when they stop serving breakfast, which is what I really wanted... I had the BBQ bacon cheeseburger, the one featured in a photo below. My server recommended it, telling me it was their most popular burger. I'm sorry to report that I was disappointed. The whole plate was overdone. I ordered the meat cooked medium, but the damned thing turned up dry. The buns were overtoasted, and the onion strings were dry and overcooked. Even the fries were burnt. Ugh... I've been coming to Buck's for the last 18+ years!!! Fav server: LaShawn! Works her ass off, memorizes our orders, and always gives us extra gummie frogs to take home! Also a shout out to George at the front! Fun fact: the owner's son won The Amazing Race. Great for kids: the menu is a scavenger hunt. And they can color it in/ play tic tac toe on it/ whatever. Decor: a collection of memorabilia from the past hundred+ years, spanning every decade. Many of the cooler items are on the kids scavenger hunt. Don't miss looking at the ceilings! Funky place I love going to because there's so much to see inside the restaurant. The menu has lots of little "easter eggs" in it and a variety of things that actually taste good. Last time I was there orange, pineapple, coconut juice was being served and was excellent. About 8 years ago, John Scully opened the door for me as I exited, color me impressed. I ordered a custom omelette and it was bland. I was loading up ketchup like I've never tasted ketchup before. I bet the person eating with me must have been wondering what was up. The best part of the meal was the freshly squeezed orange juice. Now, the "decor" on the wall...is a conversation starter. But, the walls are so busy and loaded with stuff, I can hardly even find something to focus my mind on. The Sunday brunch crowd was mostly families and children. This is one of my favorite meeting places. The setting is informal, but lots of artifacts and displays to get your creative juices going. The food is awesome also. Try the French Onion Soup and the Hawaiian Chicken Salad. It's the perfect place to brainstorm with your colleague for your next big idea, especially if you want to meet during the non traditional lunch/dinner hours. They are open from 8am till 9 or 10pm! You'll find anything from cars and flying nun fixtures on the ceilings to shoes & showcased colorful teeth molds on the walls. Kids were bustling around doing scavenger hunts. After biking by this place for years finally got a chance to try it. Everything was on point. Got the chilaquiles and the smashed burger and a side of crispy potatoes. As stated in the other reviews everything was cooked to perfection and the wait wasn't bad. Portions were huge enough to strap half a box to the bike to ride home with. Wasn't letting that deliciousness go to waste! Love the atmosphere and latte. Will make it a point to take friends here when riding the loop. read more

Woodside has really no options for restaurants so I guess many people go here to eat. I thought the food was very mediocre but the service was terrible. Waitresses were too busy to give us a seat. We waited for our water. We had to waive someone down to take our order. No one came to see if we needed anything. Food here is very expensive for the kind of restaurant this place is. Think of Apple Bee's but with outdated decor, very fast-food like food, but way more expensive. I won't be coming back. read more
