Miserable breakfast experience. First, they didn't have a very wide selection of breakfast options. When our food arrived, they forgot and messed up more than half of our plates, like bringing the wrong drinks, wrong plates overall, forgetting condiments, the list goes on... I called to place an order from this establishment on Friday night after a wedding. At the end of the call I said delivery to my hotel and they took my information and then said they could not deliver. I told them okay and said never mind and an hour later I am getting calls from someone at the restaurant saying they are outside and calling the police if I don't get the food and pay for it. They also wouldn't allow us to pay by credit card over the phone so I had to find an ATM to take out cash for an order I cancelled. Poor customer service and bad attitudes. read more

This is our regular breakfast place and honestly, it is "just" a diner, but the staff is usually friendly and the breakfast is reasonably priced so I think it warrants 3.5 stars. We often get the western omelette and french toast, which is ever so wonderfully slightly crispy every time. Together this runs us about $15. As for their lunch options, the triple decker seems to be my husband's favorite and I typically get the gyro. If you're going to get fries, upgrade to curly fries. The Budd Lake Diner used to be very good. However, since they've been sold, the new owners don't seem to care about customers as much as the previous owners. Take out there is horrible to say the least. Over the course of a week we ordered from there twice. The first time we were told it would be 20 minutes for eggs and a burger. I got there and I waited another 10 minutes. The second time we gave them more time and they gave our order away without any thought about telling us that they would comp us the meal. We were driving through and saw the diner so we decided to stop. The waitress wasn't the friendliest. We had to practically beg for drink refills. I ordered scrambled eggs, pork roll and toast. I try a different diner every time I visit North Jersey. Budd Lake Diner was my pick this time. It wasn't far from the hotel and it looked like a well-established local joint. The dining area was comfortable and it was good that they had both smaller and larger booths to accommodate groups of different sizes. Menu prices seemed on the high side but the meatballs parmigiana I ordered turned out to be a big portion. Still, I wish they had some lower-priced dinner entrees. I don't know where to start. I walked in to this diner and the cashier starred T me looking at me like what I'm doing there. No signs were posted about seating. So she asked me rudely "how can I help you". So I did not how to respond to that. I said table for one. She seated me, she never told me her name and table was not clean. I've been here before I was here last night and I remember it Being better the first time I came here I don't know why... My husband and I came here with another couple after the track and our waitress amanda was friendly and efficient. Me and my friend ordered paninis which seemed like they were gonna be good but they were sub par.. The one I ordered was "grilled breast of chicken" (which is how they explained it on their menu, very fancy haha) with avocado lettuce and I think cheese, no dressing and it was so plain and boring I don't even remember if anything else was on it. The worst part about the paninis were the bread which was somewhat stale and like regular French bread pressed. Not a real panini so it was very disappointing. My husband got grilled cheese and chicken fingers and he said it was good. My other friend got Taylor ham, bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and that definitely looked the best out of everything we all ordered. My Meal was hands down a 2 star meal but I'm bumping them up a star for the hot chocolate and whipped cream that I ordered because I was freezing lol. That was hands down the best part of the meal. This was my first visit to Budd Lake Diner after a local hike. It was a Saturday at 2:45pm which apparently is popular among the 90 year old crowd. I ordered the eggplant parmigiana (patties) which came with a separate bowl of spaghetti and my choice of lobster bisque soup. It was very nice service with diner sized portions. I enjoyed my hot meal while listening to 1970's tunes on the cable music channel. Absolutely horrible. I have been here several times with friends, and every time they have messed up my order. One time I ordered a waffle and bacon not crispy. I got a soggy waffle and bacon that fell apart as I picked it up. Another time, I ordered chocolate pudding because I couldn't trust them to make a waffle. I got back this runny brown slop. I cannot begin to express the mental and physical pain my friend and I endured entering this establishment. We set out and traveled several roads to get here full of nothing but excitement as we were looking forward to our favorite gashapon machine: Spongebob Squarepants temporary tattoos. The smiles we opened the door with were quickly turned into open mouths gasping in utter shock. Our beloved tattoos were replaced with tiny plastic dinosaurs. Tears stormed out of my delicate eyes while my friend rolled around desperately on the sidewalk with a broken voice repeating the question "Why?" We decide to be the "bigger person" and let it go, so we enter the diner to have a small meal. Our menus were given to us promptly. However, as I turned the pages, the menu suddenly started to brutally attack me. It grasped onto my sweater and lifted me out of the booth and proceeded to throw me onto the ground sixteen times. Nonetheless, entering this diner was traumatic. Our waitress was very quick with getting our orders and then giving us our food and drinks. Everything came out looking great, however, my friend's quesadilla exploded in her hands due to an excess of vegetables and she was launched through the booth windows onto the street. Regardless, the food and drinks tasted great and we had no other issues. We chatted for a bit then paid for our appropriately priced meals. On our way out, we bought 35 plastic dinosaurs each in efforts to collect all 72 randomly assorted dinosaurs. We will not be returning unless the SpongeBob Squarepants do. read more

This place is horrible! Service horrible and food is scant and mediocre at best. Waited 20 minutes for food order that should have been out quickly considering the diner was practically empty. In the meantime, all three waitresses and a short stocky girl with glasses were chatting by the coffee urns. I was complaining about the wait to my husband at our table and a blond woman, who may have been an owner or manager comes by to ask if there is an issue and I responded "no" we are waiting for our food. My little girl's burger finally came out after that and then shortly my husband's burger and my gyro panini. The panini was all bread with a giant slab of tomato and lettuce with barely any gyro meat. I again was commenting to my husband in a table side tone of voice and proceeded to combine the gyro to make one half of a normal sandwich. Again, this blond woman comes over, uninvited, "I hear you complaining, is there something wrong with your food? "I tried to tell her and she got condescending and confrontational with me in front of my 5 year old. I told her if she is just going to argue with me then why did she come over. She then just stood there badgering me and I asked her to just step away from the table and let us eat. The other short stocky girl with the glasses and the waitress hovered around and were shouting "tell them to leave". Never in my entire life have I ever had an encounter such as this in a diner and I worked in the business for many years as a waitress while in school. We have been there before last year and it was good but it seems they are under new ownership. In my opinion, this blond woman has NO business being in a service role. No one asked her to sit in the booth behind me and eavesdrop on my conversation with my husband at our table. The way she acted, you would think that I was eating for free in her house! Then, to add insult to injury, the waitress wouldn't hand us our check and instead told us to pay at the register. In my opinion, this place is laughable, unprofessional, and horribly managed with horrible service, and scant, mediocre food. This has been a local hangout for many many years and its biggest selling point is that it is one of the few area diners still open 24 hours. The food is ok. Nothing special. The prices are ok and maybe even a little high for diner food. If you need a decent breakfast or late night coffee this place will serve just find. Have been going here for over twenty years. I get the basics, not the 'culinary' attempts at diner food. I get the fries, shakes and cheesesteaks... and always find them to be A-OK!! I had to update my review because I've been several times lately while my son has soccer tourneys up that way. I've gone here since H.S. - I am shocked by the one star reviews... I think that the staff are friendly, the food is always fresh, the tablewear is always clean. I love the salad platter, with potato, tuna and slaw... I think the lentil soup is delish - I've heard Tuesday at BLD coined "Lentil Tuesday" by locals b/c the lentil soup is that good.... and the breakfasts are terrific, the Spanish omelet is always a fave for me, I even eat it for dinner. I go in randomly and I've never had anything but A-OK service and food... so I'm really surprised by the 1-star reviews, give the BLD a try.... keep to the diner food and I can't imagine you won't be satisfied. I'm also confused by the 'bartenders' that are mentioned as trashy... no bartenders or bar here... the 'barstool' table that is common in the NJ diners is always clean and the waitstaff are pros. read more

Went here for dinner with my boss on a business trip. It a cute little place with your typical diner decor. It was easy to identify the family that owns it, like the older Greek (maybe) guy that rang up the tab. So yeah, I am all about supporting the local businesses and such, but I was really not thrilled with my food. I ordered the baked ziti, which came with a salad to start. The lettuce was just sitting in a huge puddle of water! Such a pet peeve of mine. I mean, use a salad spinner or something, people! So I put on the dressing, but it just turned into bigger puddle. Yuck. The baked zita did not have any cheese mixed in, rather it was a few slices of motz draped across and melted. So it was very challenging to get cheese in every bite. Plus there was a big watery puddle under the noodles and marinara. Anyway, not great, but maybe worth another try... they do have a large menu. read more
