This diner was such a cute little spot for breakfast/lunch. My friends and I went in around 12 PM on a Sunday and it seemed pretty busy. I got the Western Omelet, and it was your standard no-frills omelet that was generously portioned with crunchy homefries! Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive; she frequently came to our table to check if we needed anything. She even beat us to the punch with extra napkins the moment a soda spill happened. Way overrated. I ordered a breakfast skillet that came with eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese. Arrived the entire bottom of the skillet was filled with marinara sauce. It was absolutely disgusting. On top of that my friend asked for a fresh cup of coffee when the bus girl walked over. The girl came back with an empty to-go cup...no coffee. Stella G's has become a go to for breakfast! Their scrambled eggs are delicious and probably some of the best eggs I've had out at a restaurant. I also love their goat cheese omelette! I have only been for breakfast but definitely plan to try their lunch menu some time. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming with always great service. We really love the food and service. Everything has been tastey so far. One complaint, but it's a big one.. The food always comes out barely warm and is cold within a minute of being at the table. We stopped in for breakfast on Mother's Day and were lucky enough to get seated at a two top that was open. Immediately after we were seated a line formed. The place was packed. Being from out of town, we had no idea that on Sunday's the kids from the drama program at the local high school perform songs for the patrons. (We had to ask because we were like, WHAT ON EARTH IS HAPPENING?). They were talented kids for sure. It made the environment a bit loud, but our waiter delivered our water WHILE belting out a broadway show tune. Impressive. The menu has lots of good options and our food was good. I would give this place a 3.5 stars if I could. The street parking is free by the way. We are from out of town and were in the area running errands. There are a few tables available for seating outside. Staff members did not wear masks and made masks optional. Small cute cozy place. Staff were very nice. The food was average. Nothing special, but not the worst food I've had either. We ordered the Breakfast Skillet Casserole which was a chef's choice and I had the Old-fashioned buttermilk Pancakes with a side of "real" maple syrup. The skillet casserole was ok and had decent taste. The pancakes were very average. The "real" maple syrup was definitely real but did not have a very strong maple syrup flavor. I'm so surprised by the good reviews. The coffee was awful, not worth drinking. The breakfast was so heavy and the carnitas on the breakfast tacos did not smell good. Tried to eat some of the food but nothing worth eating. We politely paid and left. Our server was very nice and service was quick. But for two for breakfast and 2 coffees- $50 is ridiculous. This is definitely the best breakfast Hackettstown has to offer. We got eggs Benedict, steak and eggs, and a scone. The scone was incredible! The eggs were poached perfectly on the Benedict. The scrambled eggs unfortunately had so much salt in them they were on the edge of being unpalatable, so next time we will likely ask for no salt to be used. We were really surprised by the amount of salt used. The potato's are delicious- absolutely loved them. The only feedback on the Benedict is to please include way more sauce- there wasn't enough to actually taste it, or have some sauce on every bite, which really feels like the point of eggs Benedict. I'm not sure I'd order it again for that reason, although I want to- they nailed the eggs. Their iced coffee was good, too! The staff was really nice although they did seem very overwhelmed by the number of people they were serving. When we arrived the restaurant was about 3/4 full and we waited about 20 minutes to be seated while the kitchen "got caught up." Not too big of a deal, but definitely unexpected. The restaurant itself is cute, cozy, and clean. We've found it hard to find a good breakfast place in Hackettstown that isn't a diner so all in all we're very happy to have found Stella G's and just hope this little bit of feedback will be heard! read more

My wife and I had a great brunch at Stella G's today! I had this restaurant bookmarked for quite a while after a friend's recommendation. Today we were in the area and stopped in. On this, St. Patrick's Day, the place had a great Irish vibe. The decor and ambiance of the restaurant is very cool. The food was very good. I chose the goat cheese omelette and my wife had a special, whole grain waffles with strawberries and yogurt. I liked mine, but was jealous I didn't order hers! Parking was easy, prices reasonable, service friendly. The bakery items look amazing! We brought the Bailey's cupcakes home for dessert! Definitely worth stopping in if you're in the area! read more

We visited Hackettstown over Valentine's day weekend to change things up - Stella G's sounded good for some local breakfast and it was nice and close for us. The private parking lot and positive reviews won us over. When we walked in we were happy to see how busy it was, signs of a good place! The menu had a little bit of everything on it which also was nice to see because we were hungry, I ordered the Steak and Eggs with their potatoes (the menu noted that the potatoes were served with bacon), he ordered the Breakfast Burrito and we shared a scone to start. The scone came out burning hot but also chewy, so it was microwaved. I was very disappointed, this seemed like a place that knew baked goods. Then out came our breakfasts - I was never brought a steak knife for my steak and eggs and our waitress didn't come back until we were finished eating so I never had the opportunity to ask. My toast was served dry, not the end of the world but unusual. The potatoes were not seasoned and didn't have a single taste of bacon to it. Lastly, a piece of my steak was cold and completely raw. I was there for breakfast this past weekend with my daughter. The atmosphere is cute. There was plenty of wait staff, unfortunately, in spite of that, service was poor. We ordered and our food was delivered with the wrong toast. Once the food was on the table the waiter never returned to see if all was ok, if we wanted anything else (which we did) or if we needed refills on coffee. At $5 a cup it would have been nice to get a refill. Finally we stopped a waiter at another table, he had a pot of coffee in his hand, we told him that we wanted more coffee and to see our waitress. He said he would find her and walked away, but did not refill out coffee cups first. We also said that we wanted a bill. Neither the bill nor anyone from the wait staff returned to our table. Stella G's used to be a fabulous place in which to enjoy a meal, but I've noticed the quality of food and service has slowly declined over the years. My patronage of the restaurant ended this morning after my husband and I had breakfast there. The first and possibly the most important thing that turned me off was our waitress who had long hair--mid-forearm length at least--and wore no clasp whatsoever (headband, barette, etc.) to prevent it from falling over her shoulders, even as she bent over to offer us our plates of food. A second "surprise" came when I ordered a breakfast platter and was told that a dollar extra for any menu item that contained eggs would be charged. Not a huge deal, but to my way of thinking, some sort of note to that effect should have been included within the menu. While the serving size of both our breakfasts was generous, my husband said his hash (which was also accompanied by eggs) consisted of mostly potatoes. We finished our meal and walked out after paying $41.00 (including tip) for breakfast. Very disappointing experience. read more

The food is excellent. The noise on the other hand is unpleasant at best. The place needs some sound deadening installed. My companion and I could not even hear ourselves without yelling. We decided to eat outside listening to the quieter truck traffic. Very unpleasant. I don't recommend this place if you are looking for a relaxing peaceful breakfast or lunch. We found ourselves in downtown Hackettstown at lunchtime. I did not know how lucky we were. This small cafe was outstanding! We had the Pulled Pork Panini with caramelized onions,which was delicious! My daughter and I went to Stella G's today for some much needed girl time. I ordered the French toast breakfast pudding with seasonal compote (mixed berry) and my daughter ordered the breakfast burrito. My daughter's meal was okay, except for the "roasti" potatoes that were served alongside the burrito. They were burned and had a funny taste to them. My bread pudding had barely any bread and was mostly a fruit soup. The fruit was bitter and the whole dish was not good. Service was not good either. We stood in the doorway waiting to be seated while no less than four employees ignored us. No greeting. Nothing. Once seated, our server was friendly, but overall we saw several servers spending more time talking to customers at the counter than waiting on customers at the tables. I hate posting reviews like this and I'm sure there are plenty of people who are okay with less than desirable food and poor service. I am not one of them. Sorry Stella G's. We've been to Stella's twice now and both times our experience has been fantastic. What a treat of a breakfast spot! Menu has just enough of a twist to excite my husband and I and everything we've tried thus far has been absolutely delicious. Typically we have to wait about 5-10 minutes to sit, but it's well worth it. Staff is friendly and attentive and the prices are right for the quality and ingenuity of the meals. While I'd recommend anything we've tried thus far, the Breakfast Skillet is a stand out, along with the Blueberry Crisp (as someone who typically doesn't do sweets). They also happily added bacon to my breakfast burrito for a reasonable upcharge. This is definitely our new go-to spot for a breakfast treat! read more

The best place to get brunch in Hackettstown! I love this place. Got an amazing brunch with a local friend years ago, and when I was back in the area, I knew I had to go back. Both times I didn't have to wait, but it does get pretty busy on weekend mornings at peak hours. The coffee is hot, good, and served in red enamel coffee mugs. I want one! The decor is cute and homey. Both times I ordered something on the specials menu. Years ago, it was a hash with venison. This past weekend, it was the polenta with gruyere, sausage (I swapped it out for andouille which I'd highly recommend!), arugula, tomatoes, and an egg. We had an awful customer service experience here today. It made me sad as our family has been going here for years and love the place and their food. They were busy And apparently short staffed and we were the forgotten couple outside And ignored for most of our time there. Fifteen minutes just to get a coffee and then an additional 40 minutes to get our meal. Other tables who arrived after us got served before us. When we commented calmly to the staff one was apologetic but the server made up a ton of excuses and stormed off. We were offered a big discount on the meal which we denied. Went for breakfast for the first time today as we are from out of town. Place is adorable and we were looking forward to a nice breakfast. Unfortunately the Food was absolutely terrible. We were looking for a place for food in between visiting breweries, and we found Stella G's was within walking distance in charming downtown Hackettstown. I imagine you would classify them as an upscale luncheonette. It's a great place to go out to eat to when you want the experience of a restaurant but do not want to spend a lot of money. Although they were very busy for a weekend brunch, they seemed to manage the crowds efficiently. It seems that people come from relatively far away in the surrounding area to eat here. Both my soup and sandwich were creative. I ordered the Pulled Pork Panini because it had a different spin. I was also pleasantly surprised that it just came with sweet potato friends, and that I didn't have to pay for an upgrade. The decor is funky and updated. The other thing I'd change is the 1990's era chairs, but other than that, it's a beautiful little space. You can sit at the counter, too. read more
