This was the case at the Budd Lake Diner...because it was EVEN BETTER. I just love this place. The food is consistently great. I travel a lot so I had not been there in quite some time but the owners recognized me and welcomed me like an old friend. They even introduced me to their daughter. She introduced me to her husband whom I immediately recognized as an actor from a 90's sitcom. This is a family restaurant that treats its customers like family. Portions were huge. The Greek salad was a real Greek salad with dolma and feta....the Greeks invented that. I had a Turkey Burger that was terrific. I was stuffed but make room for the homemade cheese cake. OMG. Also has sliced strawberries radicchio mango spinach tomatoes romaine lettuce cucumber thinly sliced red onion fete cheese in a balsamic vinegerette. My wife had cheese omelet with rye toast. I've heard about this place for a while, since my friend grew up in Budd Lake... so when I went to try out the diner, I had some high expectations. Budd Lake has that small town feel to it, and my friend was friendly with the owners, so when we walked in and they greeted my friend, it made the place feel more homey. Gotta love the cozy diner ambiance. People were trickling in and by the time we left, the place seemed very full. The service was suuuuper prompt, and they were able to put in special requests for us, in terms of how they cooked the chicken we had, etc. We got a chicken parm dish and a cup of soup. Both were pretty good, so no complaints there. The only thing that seemed a bit odd was our bill at the end of the meal... for what we ate, they definitely charged us a little extra. Budd Diner is a great place to dine when we arrived we were greeted by a friendly host then a terrific waitress that made us feel like guest. The breakfast was very good and everything arrived fast and hot! The food was delicious for our breakfast selections. Coffee was refilled without asking. Breakfast is one of our favorite meals of the day and the Western Omelette and oatmeal are basic and if cooked right you know the kitchen knows what it doing. It looks small from the outside but is extremely cozy and welcoming. I had the Belgian Waffle and My Father had a Swiss cheese omelette. They were both perfect and to top it off we both got a chocolate shake. This place would not be my top pick for a party of 5 or more people. It's a nice quaint diner to just sit in and unwind. I took my family to the Budd Lake Diner last weekend after church. We all ordered our breakfast meals and literally waited almost 25 minutes for simple omelettes, hash browns and toast. When I finally received my western omelette, something told me to look underneath it. So when I did there were 2 curly dark "pubic" hairs underneath the omelette! Now my wife and kids already began eating but immediately stopped. I advised the waitress who apologised and wanted to get me another to replace the hairy one. Obviously I did not want to order again and requested a check because now my family was totally grossed out! Well they charged me the full amount for all the meals minus mine! Terrible service. Went there with 5 family members and the waitress was so rude. 3 of us got soups and they were served barely warm so we sent it back RESPECTFULLY. One of us asked if they would microwave it to reheat it and the waitress responded "yeah how else would we do it" in a very aggressive tone. This place has been my stomping grounds for everything ranging from 3 AM drunken breakfasts to hung over brunches and everything in between. There are very few diners in the state that I can classify as the gold standard. For this area, the Budd Lake diner is it. The hostess on duty when we went (a Wednesday night) was very friendly and accomodating, getting our infant carrier comfortably into a booth, chatting with our 3-year-old, getting him crayons and a coloring page, etc. Our waitress was okay, except that when we told her we were done she cleared a couple of dishes and then hung out behind the counter doing nothing for about 10 minutes before she remembered to write up our bill. My son had the kids' menu spaghetti and meatballs. It was a plate of spaghetti with one huge meatball (very soft and mushy, no chewing required, reminiscent of liverwurscht), and he wasn't served the "roll with butter" that the menu description included. I had a burger with cheddar, bacon, lettuce and tomato. It came with wonderfully hot and crispy french fries. The burger, cooked medium just like I ordered, was flavorless. The cheddar was in small enough quantity that I didn't taste it. The bacon was generously proportioned, but the good salty smokiness you hope for from bacon was lost in the rest of the burger, I suppose because of how terribly terribly flavorless the meat was. My husband ordered the tuna salad hot pita with cheddar cheese. It came with deep-fried zucchini sticks that were unimpressive to him but a treat to my son. The pita bread, unfortunately, didn't come as a pocket and so it was impossible to pick up. Aside for this obvious misstep, my husband really enjoyed the sandwich once he started using a fork and knife to eat it. For how unimpressive the food is, I'd say the prices are too high by about $1-2 a meal. $7 is too much for a kid's diner meal of a half-cup of juice, a plate of spaghetti and one icky meatball, even if it had come with the roll. I would give the Budd Lake Diner a rating of 3 stars for service, 2 stars for food, and 1 star for pricing. We won't be giving it a second try. read more

They have a full menu to choose from including daily specials, breakfast and lunch and dinner all day. We ate here a few years ago, and we recently went back. It has gone down hill since then. The place stunk like the mens room and the table and booth were dirty and sticky, and you could feel the sticky floor as you walked. The whole place just looks dingy. The food was not as good as it had been just a few years ago. I would not go back here, if the dining area is this dirty and smelly I can only imagine what the kitchen looks like. This place was pretty bad. The inside looked like any old diner but the food wasn't ordinary diner food. The wrap I got had a hair in it, the desert I got had mold on it, and my boyfriends food was pretty bad too. I wish it was better because I normally love diners.
