This location is newer, and opened a while ago, and I've been slow about getting my butt in here to try it out. I love Buddy's Pizza, and I wanted to eat here for my birthday. My mom and I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and were seated immediately. What I initially loved about this location was few things. For starters, it has a more casual feel to it compared to other Buddy's locations. Not that the rest are more formal, but this one felt more relaxed, which we loved right off the bat. Secondly, the décor was so cute! There was records on the wall, ton's of space throughout so it didn't feel like we were sitting on top of each other, and good music playing over head. The menu was a traditional Buddy's menu, and my mom and I usually get the same thing. A large 8 square pizza with a Greek salad. Our server took this order and was super cool and friendly. What I also noticed while we were waiting was they now have lunch specials here? For $9.49 you can get a few (three) different options which we thought was super cool. Our food came out and drinks were refilled. We also had a 10% off Yelp check in discount which the server honored after we showed her our coupon. I like that they don't throw attitude here when you do present a coupon. Some places get major attitude about it and make a stink about this stuff. Not here, thank goodness. Overall, this is a fabulous location and even though it's a bit out of the way for my mom and I, we do go shopping on this side of town sporadically. I had not had pizza in a very long time. Huge, I mean huge cravings! Buddy's make their pizzas look phenomenal. Ok, stop! That's where it ends. I couldn't have been more disappointed. Driver was very nice. That's all good. Pizza, anything but! It doesn't even resemble a pizza. I can't believe they put this claim to their name! I was on the phone with my gf and she she said what is that sound? Is it a bell, what the heck keeps marking that noise? I apologized and dropped the pizza on my plate. She was astonished. No way! It sounds like a brick! Don't break your teeth. I won't. Worst pizza ever. I am so sad. No cheese or just a fairy sprinkling As for the the toppings, that's funny too- what toppings? I'm giving this a low rating based on the one specific experience I had. I want to emphasize that those who dine in the restaurant would probably have an entirely different experience. I was staying at a nearby hotel and didn't have a vehicle. I wanted to try Detroit style pizza. I should have taken an Uber and just gone to the restaurant but didn't for reasons not relevant to this review. That was my first mistake. I called the restaurant and was told they themselves don't deliver but I could order online and Uber Eats would deliver it. Ok. I ordered a 4-square Super 6 Mile, which is essentially a supreme. That was my second mistake. The pizza took almost an hour to get to me from the time I ordered to the time I got it. It was TINY. I looked at the box when the driver handed it to me and was quite literally in disbelief and thought it was a mistake. It wasn't. And for this tiny, slowly delivered pizza, I got to pay almost $35. So please, do not order pizza from Buddy's via delivery unless you want to wait a long time and pay way too much money for it. And please know what you're ordering before you order it. That last one was my bad, but still. A tiny mini pizza for $13.49 plus $3.00 extra for the two toppings? And a huge delivery charge? Big nope. Pop for the Uber. read more

Sunday dinner while traveling with my hockey boy. He needed to try a Detroit style pizza, and this was just the place. It's a family environment but a full bar, so I ordered a specialty cocktail. It was tiny but potent! I ordered a side salad and chicken wings, while my son had the 4 square pizza with pepperoni. It filled him up so much, he did not eat the fourth slice! The wings were yummy, but I should have ordered them extra crispy. The side salad was fresh and cold it was pretty standard ingredients, but my server let me choose two dressings to try and I really liked the roasted garlic vinaigrette better than their vinegar and oil house dressing. I think the genuine friendliness of the young lady who served us, and the bright and clean, welcoming restaurant were a nice capstone to the end of our trip to Detroit. read more

Not good! We ordered 2 extra large pizzas and wings and we're very disappointed in what we received. The wings weren't terrible, just over cooked and not very meaty. The original and the mild did have good flavor though! The first pizza was a thin crust pepperoni and it was so bad. Ridiculously overcooked and crunchy. Cheese was hardened and crispy everywhere and minimal sauce. Second pizza was thicker crust and definitely much better than the first. Not overcooked and looked more like a pizza. My problem is this is my first time at this restaurant and the portions are TINY. I actually thought my sister got the wrong order for how laughable small the "extra large" pizza is. I've had the GF pizza at a couple different locations and have been blown away by the great GF pizza. I was in town and ordered from this location. Perhaps it's just one random pizza, or maybe they're scaling back to save $. No cheese. I mean there was hardly any cheese on this pizza. This is to alert anyone interested in Delivery from Buddy's Pizza in Troy. I ordered online and wanted my order delivered. Buddy's contacted me and confirmed that my 4 pm pizza was on its way. While waiting for my delivery I was informed that the "driver had my pizza in hand and had just delivered my order." The driver had stolen my order! I spoke to the manager who told me that their drivers were "third" party and Buddy's had no control regarding their actions. So I am warning Buddy's customers that you may not get your delivered order and Buddy's management is doing nothing to improve this situation. read more

We were only in Detroit for dinner for one night, and didn't really have any leads on where we wanted to go to eat. After a quick internet search, it seemed that Buddy's was the original Detroit style pizza, so we thought, we should give it a try. I was a little skeptical, seeing as it seemed to be a chain, but the food was really, really good. My husband, toddler, and I were all pretty hungry, and we ordered an individual Caesar salad, the veggie sampler, and a detroiter 4-square pizza. My family and I dined here for my aunt's 60TH-something birthday. We had a large party, consisting of about 15 people. The staff was friendly and our waitress was pleasant. However from my standpoint, there should've been 2 waitresses because a lot of things were falling to the wayside (silverware, napkins, refills). But she did the best she could, and I can appreciate that. In my opinion, the food at this Buddy's location doesn't taste like the others (and my boyfriend agreed... so I kind of feel vindicated). We ordered a create your own pizza and fried veggies. The fried veggies were excellent, the pizza was just okay. Visually, you can tell the place is well kept and fairly new. We were in town and the restaurant came as a recommendation so we tried it out. The pizza was good , However we ordered an appetizer that had mushrooms, cauliflower and zucchini which came out cold and had hardly any breading . I ordered carryout so this review is solely based on that experience. I placed my order online and it was scheduled to be ready at 7:24pm. I arrived at 7:30pm and my order wasn't ready. The employee said they were just waiting on my wings and it would be about 5 minutes. The staff was great and very attentive however my order wasn't ready until almost 8pm. When I got home I was disappointed to find that the pizza was barely warm. The wings and salad were good but the pizza was missing the usual crisp crust. Ok, I never write reviews but I felt that I should give my opinion about this place. The location is great but the prices are extremely high. I just ordered a 4 piece pizza and an individual antipasto salad and paid $22.. the pizza is extremely small, 4 small corner pieces and the salad is probably 95% lettuce. This is completely ridiculous, the flavors are not great, the pizza is burned in the corners and the house dressing tastes like vinegar (I should also mentioned that the size is half of the Alibi antipasto salad) for almost the same price. No wonder the place was absolutely empty with like over 10 employees doing nothing. I'm sorry but I will continue ordering from Alibi's fro the time being. I really wanted to try something new but is not worth it. $22 for a meal for one person? Can you imagine how much it will cost for a family of 3 or more? read more

Terribly disappointed. I've loved Buddy's since I was a child. Used to take a Buddy's pizza back with me when I moved to California. Every time I returned to MI Buddy's would be the first stop. Unfortunately, the last three pizzas I've gotten have not been the same. I chalked the first one up as an anomaly. The second, made me wonder. And the third has sealed the deal. Service could be better. When I arrived inside a gentlemen at the bar asked "are you looking for the restroom?" While I understand some folks come in to use amenities a better question to ask would have been "Hello, How can we help you?" Once I told them I was looking to dine in, he quickly apologized (which I appreciated) told me how to get to the hostess table. Once there I told them I was dinning in for one person. I was shown to the table and told my server would be right with me. The wait was a little over 5 minutes, but under 10. To add context, it was 4:42pm and only 2 people in my section. There was one server in my section "James" not once was I acknowledged or given eye contact. Not a greeting, nothing. It was very unwelcoming. However he was very quick and eager to assist the party that arrived after I did. He spoke to every guest, smiled and was very quick to attend there needs. Finally I was assisted by another gentlemen. Older, wore a black hat and black glasses. He smiled was attentive and helpful. The food was very good, however with the lack of service, presence and the "quick to help certain but not all" I don't believe I will recommend or return. However this experience, and lack of customer service will be a great study for my team, on how not to treat customers read more

On this visit with a friend we ordered two 4 squares to share and the bottom portion of the crust didn't have the crispness that it normally does. I don't know if they gave us some alternative crust style but both were the same and seemed undercooked. I had another vendor's carryout pizza a couple of days later and it was so much better.
