This bar has lovely appearing food coming out of the kitchen. It has a fair number of patrons drinking at the bar. The location is lovely and it appears clean. Now for the rest of my review..... We were seated at a table near the outside door and wanted to stay inside, the door was propped open for most of our time, the leftover can of a mixed alcohol energy drink was not cleaned up the entire time we were seated at the table, the waiter was asked about options from the menu, we were met with a blank stare. We ate our food and it tasted ok. Within five minutes of completing 1/2 of my pizza there was a violent reaction to my pizza. DO NOT go Here and EAT. Stay away for the sake of your health! read more

The first time my wife and I tried to dine here we couldn't make it because the place was full. This second time we got in and were greeded politely and atended with attention and respect. We ordered fries to start along with our drinks while we were waiting for our pizza and it was very good. In fact, the service and attention was that good, that even the check got in first before the pizza... seriously. Our situation was one of a kind. As we noticed our order was taking too long and seeing people who got there after us been served before us, our very nice server explained to us that our pizza dropped on the floor. We received complementary starters because of it, but sadly, we were not there for appetizers only. Almost reaching 40 minutes after our arrival (could've been more) we asked for the order to be to go. Our server always polite and humble brought us the check letting us know of a 40% discount due to the unfortunate luck. We don't blame the people working there for this situation. It happens. At home, the pizza tasted Amazing! capital A. Will we be thinking of going back? No. As people say, the third is the charm, but when food and/or money is involved, I don't like to play around. We stopped by Buddyz for the first time last week and it was excellent. They have boat parking at the restaurant and at the end of the channel. The walk down the channel takes you though a nice park and a shoreline trail. Service was prompt and courteous and food delicious. We especially liked the ceasar salad and have returned again this weekend. During our second visit the Manager provided us with free ice cream due to the heat. Great place. read more

First off very good pizza and the Italian beef egg rolls AWESOME..... the only down fall was the service and we got sat at a 4 person table when there was 5 of us, very small couldn't put all the food and drinks on the table, server was to lost with what was going on at the bar she came back to check on us maybe two times and one was to bring us a check... definitely plan on going back, hope second time service is better and to be sat a big enough table. read more

We have been looking to try Buddyz for awhile now since my parents rave about it! I contacted them via their website to inquire about safely eating there with our child's Milk & Peanut allergy. They were so responsive! Not only did I receive an email from one of the managers, Katie, but also a follow up phone call from another manager. They were so understandable and accommodating!!! Our little guy was able to have grilled chicken and fresh fruit. The chicken was grilled on tin foil and was still moist. The fruit was ripe and delicious. We were assured gloves had been changed by the kitchen staff as well. It was a great experience! I shared the club sandwich with my other little one, my husband had the Reuben and my mother had the egg skillet. Everything was delicious. And our server was attentive and very kind. This was my wife's favorite place to eat. So when her family came in from out of town we took them here. Sat down at 7:10pm ordered 3 pizzas and a couple of kids meals. Didn't get the food till 830 and then they forgot 1 of the pizzas and didn't tell us till 845??? Then said another 20mins+ to bring it out. But the kids were falling asleep. The worst part was 4 people didn't get to eat bc they ordered that pizza for them.... so they drove out here to visit, 4 hours away and didn't eat.... they did comp us a pizza but then looking at the bill they over charged us on kids drinks that were included in their meals but charged. Super disappointed. Ruined the night for them. I felt like an awful host bringing them to this place. Sucks. Bc I really liked the food here but not sure we can come back now. Also reading over the other posts I agree....super loud inside. You have to sit outside if you want to talk to the people you came with on Friday nights. Great pizza! You got to try the deep dish! The staff is friendly and helpful. They have a great bar also. The only downside perhaps is the price, but if you consider the quantity of ingredients that goes into a large Chicago-style deep-dish pie, it's understandable. read more

This is usually one of my favorite places for pizza. Last Friday I placed a order, was told it would be a hour for delivery. At 1 hour 20 minutes I called to see where my food was, they told me it was busy should be at my house soon. I called again 20 minutes later still without food. Finally 5 minutes later I got my food 45 minutes late. Once I opened the pizza box the pizza was gross, burnt and rubbery from being in heating bag so long. I called back again asking to speak with the manager after spending $45 on dinner. The manager did not have the guts to even talk to me, just had the hostess handle it. Very Unprofessional in my book. I would not recommend going back. Too expensive and rude customer service. read more

Just left Buddyz's. First and last time customer. My husband ordered a pizza. Sausage, mushroom and peppers. The pizza came with no mushrooms, but loaded with onions. We sent it back and the waitress apologized and said the kitchen messed up and they were making a new one. By the time it came out, mine and my daughters meals were eaten and plates were removed. My husband said to just pack up the pizza since everyone else was done eating and pizza taken away. We did not ask to speak to a manager, but a manager should have come over to apologize and offered to either remove our appetizer or removed the pizza from our bill. At the very least, not charged us full price for the pizza! It's just good customer service. Because of their lack of customer service, we will not be back or speak highly of this place. As far as our actual meal, it was just OK. Nothing special and for the price ($32 for one pizza) our socks were not knocked off or feet! read more

Last Friday night I'm pretty sure I witnessed the epic breakdown of Buddy'z. We purposely got there AFTER the McHenry football game started and we were promptly seated. I was a yelper in a prime location. We ordered everything at once, appetizers, drinks and our pizza. Drinks came, they came again, and they came again.. Its 30 min into this trip and still NO appetizers. Approximately one hour after we sat down is when it started getting good. Apparently we weren't the only ones who had "issues" going on. The first explosion was a guy, wife and two kids start screaming at the hostess for not getting any food, kids were hungry etc. This guy made such a scene that the table next to us was recording it. Not kidding. Then another table walked out and a family that was not waiting to be seated made a scene and left. I was getting ready to leave when all of a sudden the hostess comes over and tells us that everything is ready at once. WTF?! I'm sorry, that doesn't fly. I'm now an hour 20 into this and now I'm NOT happy. I told her that we don't want the appetizers we just want our pizza because now we're really starving. You would have thought that this place just opened that day. I can appreciate the fact that you may have issues in the kitchen but to keep people hanging then give them 50% off their bill and saying sorry just isn't enough. Sorry Buddy'z, I'm done. read more

This place is a joke. Got there on a Saturday at 730pm... Place was empty. That's a sign. Sat outside, got drink and ordered apps and pizza. We got our apps and another table was seated next to us just as we were finishing our apps. They ordered, we got another round, and another round. They got their pizza first, we ordered a good 15-20 before them... Another round. At this point I'm get impatient, I go to find the waitress because at this point she forgot about us and my fiancés drink had been empty for 10 minutes. I asked her how much longer and my fiance needs a drink she said 5 minutes on the pizza and she would be out with the drink. I go back outside and give her 10 minutes, pizzas not out and drink is still empty. At this point I'm furious. I walk inside and ask to see a manager. He walks out of the kitchen with his arms crossed like I am bothering him. I told him we had been waiting for over an hour and a half and he gave me some attitude and then walked back in the kitchen without fixing the situation. So I had my buddies girlfriend ask to talk to him because at this point I was about to explode... Long story short, we walked out... Drinks were on them. This is the second bad experience here... The first one, we were asked to leave as soon as we walked in for drinks about 4-5 months ago at 9 on a Saturday because they were closing... WHAT!?!?... I asked why, the bartender responded that they were not a late night bar. It's 9pm on a Saturday, you do not have a closing time posted, but your not a late night bar? Like I said this place is a joke. I would venture FAR away from this place. Pizza is not that good and it is over priced. No reason to walk, boat, or drive here PERIOD. Ok this is Pizza!! Sorry to all the other pie shops in the area as McHenry now has a real pizzeria. The sausage pizza was spicy with big chunks of sausage and the crust (double dough) was perfect. After having been a frequent takeout customer my family and I tried to dine in. What a mistake! With twin 6 year olds and a 9 year old, my wife and I asked that their meals come out prior to our deep dish. 1 hour 10 minutes later the manager came out after I was obviously annoyed stating that the deep dish was burned and they were remaking it. We asked well where is the kids food then? They said it would be right out. 15 minutes later one of my kid's noodles came out. Another 20 minutes later my other kids got their thin crust pizza (yes 1 hour 35 minutes for a thin crust 12 inch). Finally after 1hour 55 minutes there my wife and I got our deep dish which I immediately said needs to be boxed up. Obviously we must have come during dinner rush....right? No it was a 4pm arrival with finally leaving at 6pm. For the inconvenience they did offer a huge 25% discount (lol). What a bunch of crap. They can keep the measly 25% & shove it. We have been coming here regularly for over 3 years and loved the butter crust pan pizza, it was literally the only reason we went. Went there tonight and ordered the usual butter crust pan but when it came out it looked and tasted like a buttered, overcooked tortilla filled with sauce and cheese. After waiting and finally going to look for our server, who was sitting at the bar talking to her friend, she explained that there is a new owner and that's how it was. She offered to go get her manager, came back out without the manager, and went back to the bar. After another couple minutes she finally came back and said the manager was busy talking to the cooks but he would take half off the pizza. We declined and left and the manager never felt the need to talk to us at all. Very disappointed. We will not be back and we were regular customers. All I would really like to know is where the old owner with the original butter crust recipe went so we can go eat there now! UPDATE: we returned to try it again after multiple people said that it was back to normal. Since the original review they have returned to the regular butter crust and the service is much improved. Breakfast was well very good for the food, at many breakfast places you might not find having all parts of the food being well taken care of, the food was hot coming out, it covered the consistency that was cooked, not over cooked or runny. It might sound like an expectation at minimum, but so many Breakfast places miss that. I prefer Hash browns to be more crispy. My lower rating is based on the masking policy, it shows masks required but the service was without masks. I assume this is the owner or managers preference, just not my preference. Nice surprise! Went to McHenry to go to Green Pea Pod for lunch but they didn't open till 4:00. Do we stop at Buddyz right on the river. We sat outside over viewing the river. Ordered Ruben with no sour kraut . Instead of fires they offer Ceasar salad or house. We both got the Ceasar . Large salad and very nice creamy dressing . When my sandwich came it had the sour kraut on it . The food runner said he would make me a new one. No problem I said I'll just take it off myself. 5 minutes later the waitress came back with a new sandwich. Talk about making the customer happy . We will travel back there. About 8 months ago, I wanted to throw a pizza party to introduce my son to friends in the area, so I reserved a tables for 20 on a Saturday night. The hostess I spoke to was hesitant so I said if you can't do it just let me know and we will go elsewhere. She said it will be fine and when we arrived, of course there were no tables. We waited about an hour for the people sitting there to gradually filter out and finally we were able to sit together and eat some really great pizza. Because we were in such a big group we got to try quite a few of their specialty pizzas and they were all great. The big standout was the thin crust jalepeno and italian beef pizza. Yumm! I tried Buddy'z again last week and was far less impressed with the food than my first visit. The crust wasn't as crisp and the pizza's just didn't have the pizzaz I remembered. I really wanted to like this place when it opened. McHenry could use a great pizza place. The food is good...not great, but pretty good. Good enough that I'd go back regularly IF the rest of experience was good enough. But, the problem with this place is the service. It's inconsistent at best, and generally below average. It seems to me largely staffed by people who really just don't care about what they are doing. To me, that's a reflection of management that just doesn't get what it takes to create great restaurant experience. With other great pizza restaurants not that far away (Georgio's, Lou's, Nick's), Buddy'z does not compare. I may go back on occasion for simple convenience, but I'll probably regret it more often than not unless they significantly up their game. read more

This is a great little pizza joint located on the river in McHenry. I usually eat there for lunch - the buffet is filled with several different types of pizza. There is also unlimited pasta, but I have never tried it. My only complaint is during the lunch hours, often times the pizza has been out for a while. When it is first brought out, they are hot and very flavorful. However, as the end of the buffet get closer, the pizza does not come out as fast and sits longer. I just attended this restaurant, and had Allison as our server. Had a terrible experience, not sure if it was the server we had or the kitchen, however all the food took about an hour, it was good food but some things that came out were incorrect. Due to it taking an hour, we did not even want to say anything about the food and Allison had barely checked up on us to even see if there was anything she can do. I will not be attending this restaurant ever again. Once appetizer orders were taken, she waited till about 10 min after our apps were brought out to even take our dinner order, and then the dinner itself took 45-50 min.
