I booked and paid in advance for a compact car with Budget Car Rental in Englewood, CO located at 1101 Dartmouth Avenue. Two hours before I was to pick it up, they called me that they were all "sold out" for the day, meaning they'd rented my reserved vehicle to someone else. Either they overbook or a paid-in-advance reservation means nothing to them. I discovered that the closest location with an available car was over 30 minutes away. They didn't have a comparable-sized car and I had to reluctantly pay additional for an SUV. I will never do business with Budget/Avis again. read more

Worst setup ever. You would think that a car rental company as big as Budget and in an airport as large as Denver would have better setup. There was almost an 1 1/2 hour wait to get to the counter. They had at the most 3 people working at a time. When you get up there and give them your reservation they then walk away and go down to the end of the long counter and wait for a walkie talkie so they can find out what car is available. Then they have to wait for a computer to be open so they can do whatever it is they do on that one. It would make more sense for them all to have their own walkie talkies or whichever communication tools so they can do it all right from their own computers. Then when they tell you what car you are getting they point and send you on your way. Go outside they hand you your keys and walk off. Terrible experience. Just awful. I reserved a car with Budget through Costco. I reserved a compact car, akin to a Kia Seoul. When I got to the counter I was told that they didn't have any compact cars and they tried to give me a monster SUV (a Chevy Tahoe) I refused it because I had no desire to drive a car that size, late at night, on the highway in an area that I wasn't familiar with. Then they offered me a Toyota truck!! I declined. And finally they offered a Jeep wrangler. I had had a long, late flight, waited in the car rental line for an hour. At that point I reluctantly accepted the Jeep, though I had no idea that I would struggle to get into it. I am short and the Jeep floorboard came to midthigh. I could barely get in the car and had to actually jump out. But that's not the least of this nightmare with Budget. At the counter I initially declined their insurance because I of course have insurance. And they they hit me with this. Well your insurance won't cover our "loss of use" if I'm in an accident and the car is out of service for repair. I have rented cars from other providers in the past and have never been told there is a "loss of use" component. I reluctantly took that coverage (approx $130). And since I knew I would not be doing much driving (figured my daughter who lives in Denver would be doing most of the driving) I said I would not fill the tank before I returned the car. I returned the car having used approx 7 gallons. While I expected to pay a few dollars more than what gas stations in the area were charging ($2.69/gallon) I nearly passed out when I got the final bill from Budget. They charged me almost $10/gallon ($9.99) That's obsene!! I complained but they wouldn't back down. So, my advise to anyone who will listen. Never, ever rent a car from Budget. read more

The shuttle bus picked us up within 10 mins. He helped with our luggage and took us to the car lot. The lady at the counter was friendly. We got our Jeep, no hassle. We did purchase their insurance, who actually wants a claim on their own insurance? Not I said the fly. I'm assuming that will take care of any issues that may or may not arise during the rental use. Peace of mind if you ask me. The jeep was not immaculate but it's the desert and the snow and road spray hit it just as soon as we left town. I can't imagine how hard it is to keep up with the supply and demand, with the wet snow and mud. The agent checking us out at the barricade was injured and still working. He was hurting, but still there making sure to be a part of the team. If check out goes as smooth as check in, we will be golden. I always video and take pictures of before and after, just in case. We rented a mystery vehicle last weekend to go to a concert at Red Rocks. Turns out our mystery vehicle they gave us was this huge red Dodge Ram. For us Southern California girls, it was quite the experience. It was fun. We went to the quick express pick up but of course, that was neither quick nor express. We waited around 25 minutes before even getting to the counter. Once at the counter, it only took about 10 minutes for us to get the car assigned. The lady that took care of us was very nice. This wasn't the reason for the 1 star review, although waiting 25 minutes at the quick express doesn't make sense. We returned the truck on Sunday morning at 5:30 AM. There were about 20 other car rental that were being returned in front of us, and all the attendants came over and told all of us just to leave the keys in the cars and take the shuttle to the airport and they would check our rentals in. I knew we shouldn't do it but 20 other people were getting out of their cars and getting onto the bus so we thought how could they screw up just ours or 20 check-ins? Well, they did! On Tuesday we got a charge for $725 for failure to return the vehicle. First off, only $725 for a missing vehicle? But secondly, did the other 20 people get the same charge for their missing cars? How did they lose the largest vehicle being turned in? So we called Budget corporate and they said they would look into it. On Thursday, five days after we returned the car, we finally received notification that the car had been returned and they sent us a receipt of our charges for the two days we had it. Are you kidding me? we are still calling them to ensure they take the $725 off the credit card. If it took them five days to check in a car, how long is it going to take them to reverse the charges? A month? When the attendants tell you to leave the car, take pictures of the vehicle with the keys in it, the time that you dropped it, the mileage, the gas gauge, and the physical outside and inside of the vehicle. You don't want them to pull a fast one, or rather, a slow one, pun intended, and charge for erroneous damages. They may be budget, but for the stress and the time it took to call and track down the truck, wasn't worth the $20 we saved. Just remember, you get what you pay for. I would go with someone like Hertz or Avis maybe, not Budget. At least not this location. Five days to log that the car was turned in?! I would give ZERO stars if I could. when we picked the vehicle up it was marked with scratches everywhere and it looked like someone keyed across the hood on purpose. we just didn't want to get blamed and charged for the damage so we tried telling the worker who gave us the keys and she said to tell the attendant at the exit booth. when we got to the exit booth, she said to take pictures so when we drop the vehicle off we can tell the return agent. we also paid $50 for curbside drop off when we booked online and confirmed with the agent. she said no problem, when we bring the car back an employee will take us to the airport so we don't have to wait for the shuttle. when we dropped the vehicle off at 5am for our previously scheduled time, we were informed curbside wasn't available until 7am and no one was on site to reimburse us but they would let the day manager know and to look at our email. we would have arrived 30 minutes earlier if we knew we had to wait for a shuttle. there is one sign that says "return" and points with an arrow. otherwise there are no indications on where to drop off the vehicle. we asked the shuttle bus driver and he pointed us to another area. when we took the vehicle that way, we asked two additional employees in that area what to do and they said they didn't know. so we left the keys in the vehicle as one sign states and hope for the best. the shuttle bus driver then proceeds to yell at a vehicle who pulled up behind the bus and was telling them they can't go there. this happened with at least 5 vehicles while i was staying there. I told the driver that they need more signage because it is not clear to drivers where or how to return vehicles. he starts yelling at me that there is one sign above my head (which is not remotely close to the beginning of the place so how would drivers even see or know what to do) and all the sign says it to leave the keys, it doesn't indicate where to take the car. if that amount of people were confused on where/how to return, then there's a bigger issue than drivers being dumb which is what the shuttle bus driver eluded to. since no one was there to check in that the car was returned, we did not get to tell the agent about the scratches that were present when we picked it up. horrible rental car experience. it was a disaster. the entire experience pick up to drop off was disorganized. i've never seen a rental operation run so poorly. do not choose to rent here unless you want to start and end your vacation with negativity. read more

This review is for both the Budget branch located at the Denver International Airport and the prior booking experience with Budget. Initially, I was quoted one price on the phone and when I called my local branch in Los Angeles to confirm as I was having communication problems with the overseas customer service person, I was told that my booking was complete but that the price was much higher than originally quoted. I reported this last month (June) but received no response from the company about my report nor any compensation for the up charge as well as some other misinformation such as that AAA was their member partner. Denver: I requested a specific car due to a health issue, was told this was OK and that it would be put into the reservation notes. Upon arrival, the car I was promised was not available. I explained my issue and was told nothing could be done. There was a line of about 25 people at the counter. The staff was doing their best but were clearly overwhelmed, stressed and impatient. They wouldn't answer questions and were rude. I was pressured to buy a pre-paid toll pass and was told I would have to pay penalties to the toll road agency if I opted out and was billed later. I purchased the extra toll pass only to find out on the website that as long as I paid within 30 days, I would NOT be charged extra. I then requested a receipt, did not receive one and was told: "You will be billed" after I hurriedly signed on the computer screen. I was definitely being pressured and rushed through the transaction. Outside, I was directed to a line with approximately 15 people. Staff outside were again overwhelmed and rude. I waited unnecessarily and when I clarified that I had already paid, I was yelled at and told, "Go to your car. You don't need to be here!" The female employee then screamed at her coworker in front of us and told her to deliver a message to the staff inside. My car was not checked for prior damage and I had no one to ask questions to until the exit. Then, I did talk with a wonderful employee named Autumn who was helpful, patient and kind. My return: There were about 50 people outside returning cars on a Sunday afternoon. One lane was blocked and there were only 2 employees outside checking in cars. Again, one was overwhelmed and doing his best, yelling to people to leave the keys in the car. No checks were done to see that we had filled the gas tanks nor to check for car damage so that we would not be charged for these things unnecessarily. The other employee outside was in a screaming/cursing conversation with what sounded to be his girlfriend and he ignored us and walked away to continue his obviously personal conversation off to the side. The shuttle came fairly quickly but there were too many people to ride. The driver did not offer to help with getting luggage on board. I will not rent from Budget again. Overall, the employees are overworked and unprofessional and I am going to follow up to get a receipt and make sure I wasn't overcharged for the toll pass. Be careful here! read more

They are egregiously understaffed, and while the employees on the outside seem to care a little (and I acknowledge that this clusterf*ck isn't entirely their fault), the overall operation is a mess. The system is so poorly organized - you have to wait in a ridiculously long line just to get queued for a car, and then, after that, you're directed to another line to actually pick up the car. To make things worse, after two hours of waiting, we finally get to the front of the line only to be told they don't even have the cars they said they had available. How does a rental company fail to keep track of its own inventory? It's just absurd. The inefficiency and lack of coordination are unbelievable. Budget rental at DIA must have an incentive program or commission for their agents. I've been traveling through that airport for a decade now on multiple ski trips. I always book multiple vehicles because I know their routine. Traveling to the mountains you need AWD or 4wd. Whatever car class you rented it's guaranteed to not be 4wd. But for an additional $150-$300 a day they can get you on a car with 4wd. A $400 week rental becomes $1600. They then of course strongly encourage you to pay the premium because the traction laws on I-70. Which they are right... you need it in the winter. I've seen them do this routine this time after time. Budget and Avis. This week the guy next to me at the counter got take for $5k for a 4wd Tahoe for the week. The rep was trying to convince me I was getting a deal at $1800... then $1600... then $1300. I explained to the rep that the guy next to me either has the funds not to care or too dumb to see he was being taken advantage of. I ended up leaving Budget with an awd vehicle for $400 for the week. But it took 30 minutes of hassle and complaints. Frankly I got lucky. Know that if you get caught in this scam there is an out: just take an uber or Lyft up to the mountains. It may run you up to $200 each way to Vail/Breck... but it will be far less than the guys at the Budget counter will take you for. read more

After preregistration before arrival, the incompetent representative told me my rental was not available. I informed him of my preregistration. He ran out and returned 5 minutes later saying he found my F150 Rental available. He did not inform me me that it was an EV. I informed him very clearly I had children and was going over 200 miles away from Denver Airport to Beaver Creek. The F150 barely made it to BC. Upon arrival we had to Stop to Charge for over 2 Hours due to wait in cue too Charge plus Charge Time. We had to stop to charge again and again totaling over 6 Hours during our week vacation interrupting our vacation and creating great discomfort inconveniences and Stress . This really disrupted our vacation. At no time did I solicit an EV and was Not informed by this nincompoop at the Budget counter that it was an EV. Thinking it would not be a problem, I left the Budget Denver Airport lot without considering the upcoming terrible experience. I clearly informed this creep at Budget Denver Airport Counter We were going over 200 miles away when the Range of this F150 EV CRAP Car would barely or Not make it. In addition the cold low temperatures reduces the Range on the Crappy EV F150. I have been sending numerous complaints since January 3, 2025 and reports with only shitty half assed responses from these Incompetent Non professional Avis Budget Representatives. Don't get bamboozeled by these Creeps. There are many other Rental Companies available. Part of the trunk was sticking out. Both right tires were under inflated so I had to get it inflated. This is the worst rental place I've ever been to. I'll make sure we don't rent from Budget in Denver anymore. It's quite a drive to get to Budget from the airport on the shuttle, too. Not only that, there was a long line for us to get to the counter to check in and rent. We had no idea about Fastbreak so we didn't get the car keys when we signed our papers. We go outside and see about 25 people just standing around under the tent. There's no straight line or anyone from Budget assisting anybody. We ask a few others how long they've been waiting and so they say about 20 minutes. They say there hasn't been anybody out there to help them. Someone goes inside the building to get someone to help us and so 15 minutes later, two employees come out to help. Since there wasn't an actual line, the people who weren't even waiting swooped up in front of us and got some assistance. This was an hour long process just to get in the car. The employee said that the person who was supposed to help walked off the job. She said it in a mean tone, non apologetic and annoyed about the whole situation. I understand.. I would've been annoyed, too. But I think this could be avoided if they were a lot more organized. It's inefficient for another person to come and get you to your car. They should've just given us the keys at the counter and told us where the car is like most rental companies to avoid this kind of chaos. I booked a truck weeks in advance with Budget at Denver airport through Costco travel for a total cost of $281.85. When we arrived at 1am at Budget we waited in line for 45 minutes only to find out "Yeah, we don't have any more trucks". I told the agent "I needed a truck because I am picking furniture up". He said "I can rent you two cars". So I agreed to him giving us a "Large SUV EV, like a Tahoe" and when we went out it was the size of a standard car. I went back in and told him it was not even close to the size of a Tahoe and showed him the picture of the car he wanted me to take. He said "Oh, do you have another one in mind? You can look in the lot and being me the keys" So we went on a hunt at 2:30am for a vehicle. We found an Infinity SUV and got it switched and packed it up and were about to head out when the drive side outside mirror fell off and was dangling there. I got back out and went back inside and told him about the mirror. He asked me to find myself another car. So we found a jeep next and were told "that one needs to be fixed I cant rent it to you". Then we found a Genesis SUV, got loaded up and paperwork changed over, and I asked him "You will honor my booking price on this?" He said "Yes, it will be the same". So, at 3:15am we were on our way. As we started driving the "Tire Pressure" alert came up and showed us that the drive side rear tire was 1/2 of all the others. We decided we did not want to go through all of that again and would find an air station. The first air station we stopped at the air machine did not work, so we drove another 10 minutes to the next one. By the 4th station and about 40 minutes of driving we finally got air, at this point it was about 4am. We had that car for 4 days and had to put air in the tire EVERY day! I had to drive 10 minutes and pay $2 each time, PLUS had to pay for our furniture to be delivered. I received the email of charges, it was about $100 more than the "final" price I had agreed to while booking our truck, and have since received charges on my credit card for that larger amount. read more
