On our first visit to Buds our order consisted of Salmon for my husbands entree and I ordered the Chicken Chesapeake. My husband said his Salmon was delicious. When I started eating my meal I could not place what was missing. Then I remembered what had drawn my appetite to the meal was the crab on top. This was the "special" that evening and they did not serve it with the crab on top. The waiter said he noticed that it was not on there when he served it.???? What, then correct it before it gets to the table. He was very apologetic and said he would bring me a new plate out. I was not hungry and new I would not reheat it at home as a leftover so I declined. The manager then came out and offered apologies and said our meal was on the house. That was very kind and generous of him. We have heard good things about this restaurant and we are looking forward to trying it next time. Always excellent food and service. Treated like family here by the owner and staff. We had to cancel a reservation once due to an illness in the family, but I ordered take out instead. The owner had everything plated on real china and included real silverware, simply asking that we return it when finished and not to bother to wash it if we weren't up to it! I have been to Bud's twice, with friends, and I must say, its one of those place where the food is genuine and tasty, the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Its really a nice restaurant to go and enjoy regional food. The setting is charming as well; the old train station I think. This is the best restaurant in the Westminster area for sure. They do a great job with all varieties of food bust especially seafood. My wife and I just had an anniversary dinner here and the service was outstanding. The prices are very reasonable for the quality of food you are getting. I would go with the specials on the menu. Each one has been phenomenal. Also liked when they said they sold out of a mushroom dish on the menu. Tells me they are using fresh ingredients and stocking them regularly. The only reason why I'm giving this place 1 star is because our server was very nice. We brought my mother here for her birthday this past weekend and I should have known something was wrong with this place by the lack of costumers on a Friday night. We were one of two tables yikes! We ordered wine and apps. The wine was great but that was it! Every appetizer was cold, the grits were under cooked but what really made my family and I never want to return was when we received our entrees and my ribeye was spoiled. When I sent the steak back Bud owner/ cook came out not to apologize but to tell us a long story on how he only uses the best quality meats and how each steak is vacuumed sealed ( In the menu it says every steak is hand cut...) and that he tried the steak and it tasted perfect therefore something was wrong with my taste buds. Well Bud your steak was rotten and you have lost us as costumers and I will NEVER recommend this eatery. My bill was $300, people spend your money elsewhere! read more

My sister and I arrived on a Friday at 7pm with pub fare in mind but the bar was full. We were politely invited to dine in the lovely restaurant seating. We were blown away by the delicious selection that we ordered. To begin, we had the grilled Caesar salad, which my sister's rave reviews proved true. Lightly seared, yet crisp wedge of lettuce with a smokey flavor, mixed with a cool dressing. Indescribably delightful. We enjoyed a wonderful selection of wine. The crab crostini was a great comfort food and left our plate fast. The fried pickles were also a home run. I have had fried pickles that were slimey, but these had a great coating. The dipping sauce was unexceptional. My favorite plate of the night was the seafood sauté. Scallops and shrimp atop crab risotto which was decadent and lovely. I could probably order that every time and die happy. The owner came to our table and was funny and inviting. The wait staff were not only patient and helpful but very friendly. While the dinner menu is pricey, check out the lunch and pub fare for budget friendlier options. While the dinner menu is pricey, I think that the items are fairly priced. I hope that the true foodies out there take the plunge and check out this spot because it is guaranteed to please. The Baltimore crowd will be happy to take a field trip to visit Bud's read more

A small bar atmosphere with an extremely friendly clientele. The only thing better than the service was the food. I highly suggest the cheesy grits and scallops. The price was a little higher than the average bar but the quality was extremely upscale. We will be making them a stop on the way to Gettysburg every year. read more

My boyfriend came across Bud's on Yelp one night as we were trying to decide where to eat for a date night. He was so excited to find a place that was a couple miles away from his house that had received such good reviews. It was so easy to make a reservation through the website. From the outside it didn't look like much but inside it def surpassed my expectations. The menu was out of the norm ranging from quail to kangaroo!!! Al tho we stuck to less exciting options, crab crustini app, Cesar salad, sword fish and rib-eye, everything was delicious and FRESH!! We went to buds last night for the first time as part of restaurant week. The service was outstanding and the food was amazing. When we got there we were not sure where to go in. The owner had just walked outside for his break. He showed us around the other side of the building and then personally sat us. He left us with their extensive wine list and brought back their special martini list. The waitress was great. We chose the special restaurant week menu and each got something different. Everything we tried was perfectly cooked. We couldn't decide who had the better dish as they were all excellent. The owner came back over during our meal to make sure we were enjoying everything. This place is excellent! My husband and I had been here once for the bar menu because they had such interesting happy hour selections, and when we had a family dinner the day before our wedding we decided to try out the dining room. Bud's has a very good wine selection (including a lot of local wines), and the food was excellent. I loved my crab cake (which was one huge monster crab cake instead of a couple smaller ones), and there were a variety of steaks which were also very good. Our waiter was very personable and friendly and always made sure we were getting excellent service. He and the chef AND the hostess all made a point of coming out and congratulating us on our upcoming marriage, and wished us well. The most staggering part was that we got out of there at about 10pm, and later checked the hours and realized that the dining room closed at 9. Not only did nobody seem the least bit bothered that we accidentally stayed an HOUR past their closing time, but they seemed genuinely happy to be spending time with us and talking to us, which is really a mark of a fantastic restaurant. While I feel like a jerk for keeping them when they should have been able to go home, I realize that the ultimate compliment that I could give Bud's is that we had such a great experience there that we completely lost track of the time. read more

Bud's is by far the best restaurant from Baltimore MD to York PA and beyond! The food is beyond compare - deliciously prepared and paired with seasonal items; the service is friendly and helpful, the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The icing on the cake, however, is the owner, Ken - personable, not at all overbearing. He comes to each table, not just after you've eaten to find out if you liked your meal, but before and/or during to answer any questions and make suggestions. My husband and I have eaten at Bud's many times and have taken friends and family for different occasions. I try to order something different each time, but my favorite main course is the culotte steak - tender, juicy, delicious. We recommend Bud's for lunch as well as dinner. We have been here several times and usually the food is always good. My favorite thing to order is the scallops with roasted red peppers and the fingerling potatoes. The past 2 times the scallops were awful. They were no longer large and cooked to perfection. They were the size of a quarter and didn't even taste like scallops!! They were God awful! I thought the first time they were bad was just an off night. But we returned last week and the same thing...small and awful. I'm not sure what changed but we will not be returning. Had dinner with friends there recently. My one word review is --AWFUL. The food was poorly prepared, overly salty. The side dishes were basically gloppy. Had a crab cake for $26+ that was full of filler after being noted on menu that it was primarily backfin crab. if there was any backfin, they must have left it in the kitchen. This review is long overdue! I was traveling with my extended family out of Washington, D.C. to visit Gettysburg, PA. We all had a wonderful time at the battlefield, but when the dinner bell rang we found ourselves hopelessly outnumbered in PA and looking at 2-3+ hour wait times to eat within the city limits. Disappointed, we turned back towards home and figured on a very late meal and travel on an empty belly. But... then we found Bud's. My mother-in-law was yelping this joint right as we were driving by and ordered a sudden stop. We all thought the place looked like a dive from outside, but it seemed to be well received online and we were all pretty desperate for food at the time and willing to take the chance. Really, really glad we did. Once we stepped inside, any misgivings we may have had about Bud's were erased by the warm atmosphere and pleasant service. Honestly, the experience reminded me not to 'judge a book by its cover'. Not only were our meals excellent - even by city standards - but the chef came out and helped to serve us personally, including making special arrangements for my fiancee who is vegan. They also offered an extraordinary wine list and operated a pretty smooth bar. Highly recommend to anyone traveling through the area or looking to escape the crowding of Gettysburg. read more

My mom and I have eaten at Bud's three times now on the way back to the Annapolis area from Gettysburg. Even though I live in New York, the owner remembered my name and my order on our second and third visits which were one and two years after our first visit, respectively. The food is simply divine - the best salmon I think I've ever had (and I've had a lot!) - and the wine selection is great. I just wish they had a location in Manhattan as I'm sure I would be there 3-4 times a week. We had been wanting to try Buds for awhile based on reviews and word of mouth. We went on a Friday around 645 and had made reservations but I dont feel like we really needed them for a 4 top. The atmosphere is nice and cozy, not too loud or quiet. Thr waitress was friendly and not overbearing which I like. The wine list was extensive, the draft beer was not and the bottles were expensive. $9 for a bottle of beer-are we at a Ravens game? I got the Maryland Crab soup to start and was not a fan. I heard the cream of crab was good though and the pumpkin. The salad also looked very generic. I got the scallops with fingerling potatoes, green beans, and kale. The scallops were cooked beautifully as were the green beans although I only got about five beans. The kale was kind of weird and the potatoes nothing special. The salmon looked delicious and was a good portion size. The chicken dish looked quite small for the price but I heard it was also good although they forgot his rice. We went to celebrate our anniversary and were extremely pleased with our dining experience (Full transparency: we are admitted food snobs). The menu has a variety of high quality food options as well as a variety of portion sizes. The starter of flawlessly steamed mussels were flavorful and served with grilled, crusty bread to soak up the yummy broth. The fried crab croquets were splurge worthy with plenty of crab meat and tons of flavor. The Hubs ordered the prime rib entrée that more than satisfied his carnivore cravings. It was accompanied with a side of asparagus and hand mashed potatoes both prepared to perfection. My "Just Right Plate" - - Baked Rockfish Chesapeake - - SWOON!!!. The rockfish, topped with luscious crab imperial (that did not over power the fish) was the perfect marriage of both Chesapeake delicacies. The ambiance was of high end dining with a friendly atmosphere and comfortable, classic surroundings. Our friendly server was knowledgeable and appropriately attentive. This is the first negative review I've ever written on Yelp, but it honestly was the worst experience I've had in my life (and I eat out a lot). My food was fine (other in my party disagreed), busgirl and other servers were lovely, but the waitress was the rudest person I've ever met in my life. Took forever to even bring us menus, walked away when my cousin asked a question, and was condescending to my 96-year-old uncle. Many more strange things happened but truly the worst was when my uncle made a slight complaint about his cut of beef. The chef came out immediately said he would take care of it,which we appreciated. The waitress, on the other hand, would.not.let.it.go. She told this senior citizen 3 times that he shouldn't have ordered it if he didn't like fat. Then she "forgot" to take it off the bill, was rude about fixing it, and FOLLOWED US OUTSIDE to once again tell him he shouldn't have ordered it. I don't want her to lose her job; I never want to publicly shame, but honestly, this experience has stuck with me for days. read more

We heard about this place from the Inn keeper where we were staying. The place at first glance looks just plain and dull from the outside. Once you get inside, it's very different, pretty upscale with beautiful color tones and paintings that are for sale, I presume by local artists. I don't know the norm, but the night we went, the whole process seemed different than what we are used to. There was no hostess stand and no hostess. We entered waiting to be greeted and that didn't happen. We waited for like 2 minutes and finally someone approached us, we were then escorted to our table by our waiter, which we found out later he was our waiter. We were served water by a busboy and we were given the wine list book and cocktail menu. No dinner menu. After about one minute we were asked what we wanted to drink. We gave him our drink orders, an ice tea for my wife and a beer for me. He then left to attend his other tables. After about another 5 minutes he returned with our drinks, no dinner menu, then he left. He was attending at least 6 tables all around us. Finally he stopped by and I asked him for dinner menus, which he brought to our table. Then about 25 minutes later, he came back to ask us what we wanted to eat. Oh in the mean time, the busboy dropped off fresh bread and hard butter. While we were waiting for the food, the owner came out to greet us and made small talk. After about 5 minutes he walked on to the next table and we waited another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. I know this, because I started my timer on my cell phone once he had taken our order. The one weird thing is that the only bathrooms are located in the middle of the dining room. The bar patrons have to come into the dining room to use the bathroom. Once the food arrived, it was worth the wait. My Filet Mignon was cooked perfect and you could cut it with a butter knife. I know because that's what I used, they didn't bring out a steak knife. The Yukon gold mashed potatoes were excellent. Just the right amount to make me full. My wife's crab cakes were cooked to perfection with lumps of Maryland crab cooked just right. The fingerling potatoes were very tasty. I'm giving them a 4 out of 5 because of the wait for the menus and food, but the food taste itself is a 5 out of 5. The owner came back to our table while we were eating to make sure everything was ok, which it was. Then he left to move onto the next table. I would recommend this place for the food, not so much for the process of waiting tables. Maybe it was an off night. read more
