We have driven past this restaurant countless times. As this establishment was not our first choice, we decided to give it a try. We walked in to a packed restaurant. We weren't sure if we were supposed to seat ourselves or wait for someone to tell us where to sit. We took a chance & found an empty table hoping that was protocol. Server came by rather quickly & took our drink/food order. Ordered a dinner salad, side of onion rings, 2 sodas, 1 burger = $42. Hubs & I split the food. Salad consisted of lettuce, croutons & a hunk of tomato, onion rings were okay, burger/fries were okay. Definitely not a gourmet meal, but was tasty. This is a full bar establishment. Probably one of the best burgers I have ever had! It combined four different meats, and was super tasty. I also upgraded to get the sweet potato fries, and they were also delicious. This is the best grill in town. we had a party of 15, and our server Tamara handled us with grace humor and fantastic customer service! they are not lying about having the biggest wings! the fish sandwich had a huge fish fillet and the tartar sauce was out of this world! the pork tenderloin was the equivalent of 2 sandwich's and the chicken Diablo was juicy! this restaurant gets all thumbs up from all of our party and we will definitely be coming back before we head out of town. read more

While visiting my sister who lives in Payson we went for an early dinner here. The clam chowder is some of the best I've ever had. So flavorful. We also split the Chinese chicken salad and it was really good too. The service was great. The atmosphere was ok... a bar but definitely a dinner too. Buffalo Bar & Grill was referred to us by some locals we met and chatted with out on the nearby trails. We had a couple other places in mind but figure it's a safe bet to eat where the locals eat. I've passed by Buffalo many times in my adventures in/around Payson and never thought anything of it until now. Great little local spot that gives off country/Texas Roadhouse vibes where the emphasis is on burgers. If we had come a little later we would've done happy hour (M-F 2p-6p), While they have a bunch of lunch deals as well ($10 and $11 deals), the 3 of us hungry hikers decided to each order a Herd Burger with buffalo rather than brisket. We started with the Jalapeño Cheddar Bites which were the perfect blend of crispy, cheese and spice. I'm glad I ordered the onion rings over fries, just wish I had room for all them - they definitely give you more than enough for the price. Staff were super nice and quick to get us out our appetizer/drinks and then main lunch. Definitely willing to stop by during my next Rim Country adventure! read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. We were coming from Jerome and Winslow back down to the valley. This looked like a good place to stop and the first few reviews I read were good. I needed some water in my water container so took it in with me. After we sat down we were informed I was not allowed to have an outside container in establishments with a bar due to liquor license. HAHAHA FUNNIEST THING IVE EVER HEARD, considering I have been into plenty of bar/restaurants here in Az that say absolutely nothing and even fill it up for me if I need it. They wanted me to leave it with them and put it behind the bar.. LOL. Yea, no way am I leaving my drink container out of my sight with people I don't know, who knows what they would put in it. Stopped in for 11/7 around 5:30 and it was a little busy. Waitress was not friendly and said she was really busy. Bartender was great and said sorry that minor couldn't sit at bar to eat. Waitress said we were supposed to wait at door. I said we did and no one came to seat us. She again said she was really busy. I said thank you and we walked out. Horrible service. If you like fried food, you will love this place! We were there during happy hour and they have a nice selection of fried yummies for $8, two or three dollars cheaper than their regular menu. We had cheese curds and mushrooms, both with delicious crispy coating, served piping hot, large portions, and came with ranch dressing for dipping. We ended up taking half of it in a to-go box so we'd have room for a meal. My husband got the fish special, substituting fries for onion rings for $1 and a cup of clam chowder for the coleslaw. He liked it all, but again, had to take some onion rings in a to-go box because it came with so many! I got the patti melt sandwich on sourdough. It tasted good, although wasn't anything super special. For $3 I got a side salad instead of some of the normal sides. The salad was a disappointment, as it was just large pieces of mainly romaine lettuce, a big chunk of a tomato, and some croutons that looked overbaked. Definitely not worth the extra $3. I will say though, that all their salad dressings are homemade and the three I tried were all delicious--ranch, Italian, and blue cheese. The servers/bartenders were all very friendly and attentive to our needs. They made us feel very welcome. We sat in a comfortable booth and they also had outdoor seating. It probably wasn't our healthiest meal ever, but we enjoyed it. They do have some entree-type salads and other healthier options, but we splurged a bit! read more

While passing through town, we were hungry so decided to check the Buffalo Bar & Grill and I am happy we did. We did intend to sit on the patio (which is dog friendly by the way), however, it was actually closed for the evening. Anyhow, we ended up eating inside and still enjoyed the experience. The decor was countryish with all sorts of quirky and unique things, I loved it. The bar area was absolutely beautiful in its own way. Between the wood and the well organized liquor on display, it definitely was cozy and still esthetically pleasing. Our waitress was nice and made sure to tell us about their special of the day which was not a regular menu item. The food was really good! The fries were so perfectly crisp on the outside and the season was just perfect. No over salted fries here! The portions were very large also. You can tell the food was cooked with pride, it definitely was not slopped together just to push food out. You can tell someone in the kitchen put a little TLC into perfectly making the food which is very unusual for a "bar and grill". Anyways, between the great food, nice staff and reasonable prices, I definitely will drop in the next time I pass through and so should you! read more

This used to be our go-to restaurant when in Payson. The last visit the service had slipped in terms of friendliness and the steak dinners, while not bad, were not cooked or seasoned properly. That said, we decided to give them another try last night, May 26th. After waiting to be seated for over 20 minutes without so much as a single acknowledgement, though several staff members saw the groups of people waiting, a woman finally came over and stated, quite rudely, " We are short staffed. It's going to be about 15 minutes or more to be seated and another 30 to get served". We, along with other families that had been waiting, left. I am a business owner and I understand and sympathize with being short staffed. But in the 20 minutes that we waited someone could have taken a few seconds to let us know about the issue. Instead, they not only lost business last night, but future business as well as we will not be back. A little communication goes a long way. read more

This is a nice bar and grill to stop at for a quick bite. It is covered in different signs and wall art inside that are fun to look at. It makes for a great game of eye spy. The food was good. I really like the dive bar/hometown field of this place. It has a classic feel to it. The food was also amazing. However, my partners fries came out cold. Or, let me rephrase that-They came out, not as hot as they should be. Other than that the service was rather fast due to us, dining in on a weeknight. Might I add, the service was really nice. Now, we don't visit this place much because we do not venture into Payson a lot. However, we definitely will return. Oh, and I love their playlist. It never disappoints read more

Driving through Payson and wanting to support a local biz, we decided to grab a bite that fit right into the feel of this western town. From the boots hanging from the ceiling to a full on bar, this place feels like the Old West, a place you would hang if you were a local. Friendly staff , relaxed atmosphere and huge menu. The server enticed us with fried green beans for a starter. Why not? They were crispy and hot and really a fun start to our lunch. The house made Chipotle dipping sauce rocked them out. Ordered a Reuben that was stacked with meat. Not sure but, tasted like it had been smoked in house. Tons of fry's were added. Also had the Chicken Philly off the lunch menu. We visited this specialty eatery about a week and a half ago. It was a bit pricey, but being visitors, we didn't know if that's normal for the area. The buffulo burger was amazing. Absolutely delish. My husband's burger (beef) was cooked perfectly. He likes his blue-rare, and it's almost impossible to get one that way, but the BB&G cook knows how to do it right! We would definitely go back for those burgers...but...sadly, not the sides. The onions rings and fries were so greasy, we couldn't finish them. A shock to both of us, as we've literally never left onion rings uneaten. The coleslaw was meh. The music was ok, but too loud, then off for a while. A bit odd. But the IPA I had was excellent. So, yeah, overall I'd say give it a try. read more
