Dinner here with my dad on a weeknight. We showed up at 8 and were one of 2 tables. Our waitress, Heidi, was delightful. The food, however, was just mediocre. I had the spinach salad, subbing salmon on top instead of chicken. The house balsamic was a bit thick, and some other veggies tossed in would not have hurt as the salad was a bit plain (maybe mushrooms or artichoke hearts?). The candied pecans on top were yummy though. Buffalo wings were solid. Wished they came with a bit of celery. My dad's salmon tacos left something to be desired. The salmon was very plain tasting, and could be improved by having it really blackened with some hot sauce on the side. As it were they were just kind of drab. Also the mayo sauce was drizzled all across the 3 tacos which gave them a tacky bar-food kind of look. The sauce would be better on the side. Also, i agree with the other reviewers that the purple cabbage dressing is utterly flavorless. They should add either garlic, lemon, or ginger to it to give it zing and make it worth the calories! It's about as good as you're going to get for a great Sunday breakfast in Whitefish, or anywhere else for that matter. Great people, great food and just one of those places that always feels like home - breakfasts rock, lunch is pretty damn good, and the new dinner menu is surprisingly solid (I highly recommend the purple fish tacos) and a good value, too. BEST burgers in town, and best place to get a sit down breakfast. Great selection of tasty local beers! The drip coffee in the AM is worth it (unlike so many diners) and the staff are always so friendly. We always take friends to this hot spot!! read more

Went out yesterday for a late dinner, we arrived about 8:30pm, and they normally close at 9pm, we felt sorry about coming in so late, but the service was great, the waiters are very kind. I tried the Salad with smoked Salmon, great flavor. The dessert is wonderful - Huckleberry pie with ice cream. The taste is not too sweet or too heavy, it is just coming in a right combination. Just watch out the pie is hot, not warm, so combination of ice cream and pie is so enjoyable. read more

The cutest little diner in Whitefish. We went there every single morning of breakfast. I tried so many different things, all which were OUT OF THIS WORLD. Service was super fast and friendly. We loved that they opened right at 7 every morning. It was a perfect way to start each day!! read more

We ate here 3x - Sunday brunch, lunch, and dinner- during our recent trip trip to Whitefish. The hamburgers , chicken wings, and other sandwiches are amazing, but they have a whole menu worth exploring - example: I had the Buffalo meatloaf one night which was incredible. Try the milkshakes- everyone loved theirs- I had the huckleberry and loved it. Jordan gave memorable professional service. The owner, didn't catch his name, graciously served the kids extra French toast after the kitchen closed on Sunday. We could have eaten here every day and been happy. This is the most consistent place for breakfast in Whitefish. Always busy, and always good. Last visit we ordered the special breakfast tacos (essentially smaller versions of "Andy's Big Breakfast Taco") and they were great! A huge portion that was enjoyed later that day too... Also on the menu was a version of Banana Bread French Toast that was also very very delicious... Four stars reflects the sometimes terrible service by two particular waitresses... read more

This update is to expand on my prior reviews. The team at the Buffalo has managed to remain impressivly consistent over the years. Lets get the negatives out of the way. The prices, like most things in Whitefish, are geared for tourists Dollars. Noteworthy deals and happy hour specials are largely nonsexist. Since most of the business owners have chiseled out there little niches. So competition is a rarity in this little town. If it exists at all. Burgers run about 11-12 Dollars each. They offer a fantastic and ever changing local tap beer selection. Aiming for quality not quantity. So you can count on the beer being fresh. Figure about a 20% tip since that is the unspoken 15% in Whitefish. So by the time your said and done, two burgers, a few beers and a tip will run you 60 Dollars or more. I can do a lot for that money. The crowds seem to have found the Buffalo more so than in the past. So be prepared for a wait during peak Winter and Summer seasons. During shoulder season the locals start to creep back into town after the crowds have gone. Flocking to there favorite eateries. The Buffalo definitely being one of those spots. All in all the front of the house staff remains exceptional. Back of the house staff seems to be content pushing out consistently good quality dishes. Docking one star for inflated pricing. This is a Whitefish problem which the Buffalo is a proud participant. read more

My favorite brunch stop in Whitefish,. Be warned, you will have to wait on the weekends in the summer time but its totally worth it. All the food is delicious. My favorites are the buffalo pies with various ingredients but the pancakes are also yummy. They serve beer, lots of local varieties. The service has always been friendly and fun people. Would highly recommend at stop here for brunch or breakfast. read more

I have always loved the breakfasts at the Buffalo Cafe - they are the perfect way to stoke up for a day of skiing at the mountain. You can't lose with any of the Buffalo Pies - they start with excellent, homemade hash browns and top them with your favorite breakfast toppings. I love Leslie's Pie - it comes with tons of really great veggies, eggs and cheese. A couple years ago, we thought we'd check out the Buffalo for dinner and it is now one of our two favorite dinner places when we come to Whitefish. We visited a couple weeks ago and I tried the Hellfire Burger - it was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I normally don't care about burger buns, but the homemade bun from local Ceres Bakery was delicious. My hubby had the Parmesan Crusted Chicken Breast and we both loved that as well. I normally don't eat fries either but I made the mistake of trying the Beer Battered Fries which came with the chicken and I couldn't stop eating them. The service is always fast, friendly and real. We will eat at the Buffalo every time we come to Whitefish. read more

If you're looking for dinner, do NOT let the name fool you. This is NOT cafe fare. This is absolutely amazing food in a cafe. The calamari appetizer was the best I've ever had, if a little heavy on the salt. The pork chili verde enchiladas had an amazing flavor with just the right amount of spice. Everyone said the Mac and cheese was great also (I didn't try it). I had a special red curry salmon, that quite honestly, needs to go on the menu so I can have it again. Once again, for dinner, this is not a cafe, this is a misnamed great restaurant!!! read more

Great feel and atmosphere inside - a mix of Montana mountain feel with a good 'ol American restaurant. Solid burger selection. Our family ate and shared/split... Double Bacon Burger - special $10. Chicken Wings Wild Salmon Caesar Salad Salmon Tacos Reuben Sandwich Mac and Cheese The Double Bacon Burger was amazing. A burger (loaded) with three kinds of bacon. If you're not 'bacon averse' this is a must have. French Fries were my type of perfect. Lots of surface area, crispy and full of flavor. Wild Salmon Salad was pretty good. I wouldn't rave about it, but good. Salmon Tacos were better than average. They provided two different sauces that allowed for a variety of tastes. Reuben was a solid, quality sandwich. Not too fatty corned beef with a true dark Rye Bread with Sauerkraut. The Mac and Cheese was a very, very rich creamy cheese - almost too rich!...but there's no such thing :) Awesome draft selection with a focus on local brews labeling the distance of each brewery. A variety of malted hops that would rival most microbrews from my hometown of Portland, OR. Service was average. They were pretty busy, but our server still managed to stay on top of our needs. She was great. We really enjoyed Buffalo Cafe - we might go back tomorrow! read more

Awesome breakfast. Buffalo Cafe makes everyone feel welcome and is a nice mix of tourists and locals. Large selection of breakfast items, lots unique including southwestern style breakfast burritos and huevos rancheros; lots of omelets as well. I had the Dow's Huevos which was poached eggs, bacon, salsa cheese sour cream in a crispy tortilla. It was really good and plenty filling. The bottomless coffee cup was delicious. I had to get a cup to go it was so good. They said it is the Buffalo Blend which you can get at Montana Coffee Traders around the corner. Service was excellent. I love seeing people having fun doing their job and this place looks like everyone is really enjoying being there which makes a big difference. I know on weekends there is a probably a long wait, but I went on a Wednesday and sat down at the counter right away. Best breakfast in the Whitefish/Kalispell area. read more

Had lunch with an old friend who recently moved here. Loved the restaurant. Had the buffalo chicken wrap (grilled). The side salad was great with fresh mixed herbs and lettuce with broccoli and mushrooms. The balsamic dressing was home made. Busy but attentive waiters. Whitefish is a beautiful town with more than a few tourists. It's easy for a restaurant to not care. Nice to see that they care at the cafe. read more

We had the chips and salsa for an appetizer. The chips were warm, tasted homemade and seasoned to perfection! Way better than the average Mexican restaurants around the Flathead valley! Our waitress, Jade, was super nice and friendly from the beginning. She refilled my soda more than once without me having to ask, ands that's something I always look for when eating out! Super happy with our experience after having a rough day at work. We will definitely be back to try breakfast sometime! And Todd Muraoka makes a mean salad :) read more
