    Fried rice
    Dale B.

Taste: 5/5 Price: 2/5 Spending almost $40 on 2 plates is ridiculous especially for what was received. It's like they didn't have enough fried rice so they spread it out to fill the styrofoam container. I pushed the fried rice to one side there was ALOT of space left. The Jollof rice on the other hand seemed to be packed well. It's not nice to try and stiff the customers... just say you don't have enough. I doubt I'll be back. Or if I do go back, a big IF, I'd likely get a spoon to test the depth of food received

First time at this place, the food is absolutely tasty. I had the okra stew with fish, the food came in less than 30 minutes. The survey was absolutely lovely. The chef even came out to make sure that we enjoyed our food. I will absolutely be back I loved it.

Just found out this is Egusi Soup. I liked it a lot, but now I understand why I didn't have any spinach. So my review dropped because of mix up of order.

    Efo riro was excellent!

They will offer bottled water as if it's the only option since there is a charge associated with it; however, tap water is available for free but you have to request it. We ordered around 7:31pm and received our food within thirty minutes. Because this is a hookah bar, the tables on the restaurant side are very low. You'll have to lean forward and down if you have the food delivered to you there. We were sitting at the low tables first but decided to head to the bar so we could actually sit at normal table height to eat. The steak kabobs were cooked too hard. They didn't ask how we wanted them cooked and we didn't think to tell them medium, so we just dealt with the overly well-done. They had a good taste, but they were just really tough to chew. The jollof rice with chicken and plantains was absolutely delicious; however, one of the chicken legs was really dark on the inside which made me not want to eat it, so I left half of that leg on the plate. I did dump the jollof rice into the sauce that the chicken sat in though because it was amazing. I loved the spice it added to the meal. The taste of all of the food was phenomenal. The jollof rice is definitely the star of both meals.

The pounded yam was smooth and not too thick. I had fun scooping up the Egusi in the Fufu with my hands. Both together was an enjoyable flavor and texture combo. The Beef Suya was good as well, a nice meat appetizer. The beef was cooked well done which some people may not like, but I enjoyed it since I grew up eating my steak that way. It paired very well with the spice blend and raw onions. I also had the Ghanaian Jollof Rice and that was not my most favorite dish due to the flavor. Not my cup of tea, but the rice was cooked well. I also liked the side plantains. The interior is nicely ornate and comfy. The service here was also super great and my assigned server was very personable. I genuinely enjoyed my conversation with her and she did well giving me recommendations and directions as a first timer for this type of food. Overall, I had a great experience here and would come back again!

The okra soup was super thick, barely any soup / sauce. it had a bunch of sharp pieces of crew shell with no crab meat to be found. I usually feed it to my baby but it had so many sharp pieces. the egusi was SUPER dark and oily. it looked like dirty car oil and it was SALTY ! the chicken suya was great as always but they changed the dipping sauce that comes with it which is the main reason i even get the chicken. the sauce is disgusting. this was the absolute worst experience i've had here . it was a waste of my $125 and i will not be returning . i spend thousands yearly on this food and this experience has been a major turn off . i drive 35 minutes fron buckhead atleast 2x a month to enjoy this food and i am totally turned off from this latest experience . i would normally recommend but the change in the food was soooo drastic ! i'm scared!

You know nothing about serving customers in the restaurant industry. Every real restauranteur knows the at 1 minute to close you are full service. Lost a customer for life! I also tip very well especially close to closing so counter dude that offered baked chicken or oxtails instead of my fried catfish list atleast $20 because I respect good service late. Very dark and not many traditional tables and chairs. I came around lunch time and there were quite a few ladies in beautiful traditional dress (it was Christmas Eve). I had called ahead and ordered takeout and when I walked in I was promptly acknowledged. Food arrived in the quoted time (25 minutes). Nigerian cuisine is not one I'm incredibly familiar with, but I have tried many of the standard dishes. Today I went with White Rice and Red Stew, which comes with plantains. It was delicious. Piping hot and incredibly fresh. The spice level was perfect. Just spicy enough but in no way overpowering. The plantains added a sweet element which played beautifully against the spice of the stew. The only place they lost points was the price on the website is not the price I was charged. $19 on the website and I was charged $25 but maybe they just haven't updated to reflect current prices. Regardless, I really enjoyed my food and can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. Edit: Take note, it doesn't say "The Island Grill" on the sign. It says "The African Grill."
