First time at Bull N' Call was a pleasant experience. Our sassy waitress was funny and attentive. We started with Dirty Martinis which were tasty. Our meal started with a warm roll with butter, dinner included fried haddock and scallops with fries and coleslaw, sirloin steak cooked medium well, and another sirloin steak cooked medium rare with a 1 1/4 lb Lobster. The steaks were 8 oz each and nicely charred. The scallops were bay scallops and tasted fresh, two nice sized and flaky haddock pieces, We'll be back and try the Cajun prime rib for dinner. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for at least 10 years. The food is consistently delicious, affordably priced, and the waitresses are wonderful. We love the salad bar. The Bull n Claw reminds us of the restaurants we grew up going to. The ambiance is welcoming and homey. We stopped while in Maine and we're told that they were short staffed but they were accepting diners. So we decided to stay they have a full menu and a great bar. We all decided on the turkey dinner. I like to give them a good review but we never got our meals. After a 45 minute wait, our waitress came to our table and said that 7 employees in the kitchen tested positive for Covid and they had to shut down the restaurant. I felt bad for her she was very attentive even though she was extremely busy. Actually I saw the same 4 waitresses handling all the tables and each of them did it with a smile. The next day we drove past this place and the sign outside said they were closed due to a staff shortage. So I do not believe the Covid story and shame on them for using Covid as an excuse. This was our third time there over the years while on vacation. Our first time is what made us return. After this evening, not sure if we will! While we understand that businesses are short staffed, rudeness from an elderly host is unacceptable. She was very rude to most that came in. A little old foreign lady. I asked her nicely, how long of a wait. Her reply to me, I don't have a crystal ball. A simple, maybe 20 mins, but I can't promise, with a smile would of been nice. I was so disappointed, the lobsters were shedders soft shell they have very lil meat, they I would estimate to be less than a lb or exactly 1lb ea, steamers comes out on this plate with 2 big bowls water n butter if I were to guess the steamers were about 1/4lb not that many,,,, all of the above, get this $75 I was estimating $50 when I saw 75 my mouth dropped to the floor. Food is delicious and satisfying. Think of slightly more elevated than a diner. The carrots and potatoes give you the "home style" while meat and seafood give you a bit higher end. Well worth the prices, especially in Wells. The service is good. They are busy and efficient. Please be patient as they are working hard. I applaud our waitress for her hard work as she zipped around the restaurant without taking a single break. The ambiance is "traditional" as it claims to be. i hate to leave a poor review but everything about our meal was terrible. Poor service (i think they are extremely unnderstaffed). Salad bar had items that were cleary out too long. The waitress said she was suppose to replace but didnt have time. I ordered baked stuff shrimp with seafood stuffing. The shrimp were small, so small they could not be "stuffed". Served over break crumbs - i found no seafood in the stuffing. The shrimp were very rubbery. This was a great place years ago. That time seems to have sadly passed. Today my husband and I drove from Boston to have lunch at the Maine Diner, only to find out they're closed on Wednesdays. So we went across the street to the Bull & Claw. While in the parking lot, I read some of the Yelp reviews, many of which mentioned a very rude hostess. That was all I needed to get me into the restaurant. What a disappointment. She wasn't rude at all. We're in our 60s and were the youngest people there. I ordered the 8" lobster roll. It was good - not overloaded with Mayo. My husband had the fish & chips and said it was very good. Our server had asked the people at the next table if they wanted dessert, and told them what was available. Sounded good, so we were going to order dessert. But she didn't ask us. She just dropped off the check and left. That's why they lost 1 star. read more

This is a very good restaurant to dine at if you are visiting Maine. I have been there on three occasions and have enjoyed it each time I've eaten there. They have salads, appetizers, sandwiches, steaks and many good seafood dishes. The dishes that I would recommend most are the baked stuffed shrimp (the stuffing is excellent), the prime rib and the soup and salad bar. The staff here is super friendly and welcoming and the dining area is roomy and comfortable. I hope to get back here sometime soon for another delicious meal. read more

Pros: cozy atmosphere, seated right away, waitress friendly, able to go right up to the salad bar. Drinks came quickly as well, food was ok, but nothing amazing and kids loved the complimentary bread. Cons: unfortunately, the service. Our waitress stunk like cigarettes, she seemed extremely exhausted and stressed, told us she had worked several long 12hr shifts in a row. She did not come to our table at all to check on how the food was. We waited so long after we were done eating for her to come give us the check and then waited at least 15 more minutes for her to come back so we could pay. No apology for the wait or acknowledgement of how long we sat there. It was not even busy at that point. I would come back again, but sadly, our particular waitress did not seem to be having a good night, which I understand, but an apology for the wait would have at least made it better. read more

We were disappointed by Bull an' Claw. I know times are hard but there's no excuse for these chicken tenders. None. They were extremely overcooked, barely seasoned and the fries were soggy and unseasoned. My Alfredo was bland. So bland. My partner and I have been here many times, and never had a bad experience - until this last time. Our waitress was either smoking crack or had brain damage. The first thing she did was spill my martini everywhere, not lifting a finger to clean it up until we insisted. She tried to explain it away by saying she had worked some doubles (like we cared). She also mentioned that she didn't know the menu very well. After our food was served (mediocre at best) she came around with the obligatory "how is everything", whereupon I tried to tell her the problems with it. After some minimal listening to me, she walked away with a huge smile on her face. I'm thinking crack, or some other heavy duty meds. It's going to be a while before I go back there again. read more

First time back in over 20 years. Nothing seems to have changed. Its the same old, same old, interior decor not especially inviting. Hostess was less than friendly, i felt i was imposing on her to come in. Wait person was very nice. I agreed on adding soup and salad bar, ( mistake)! Soup- lentil, pea soup and corn chowder, being on the coast in the fall expected a fish or clam chowder, no luck. Had i had a picture of the salad bar from 20 years ago it would have been the very same, very standard fare. (Ham, turkey, chicken even tuna would have been nice) Only meat was sliced pepperoni ( really? I don't ever remember pepperoni on any salad!? One good thing, nice variety of dressings. I had the fish and chips. Picture this. A few pieces of golden brown fish and golden brown fries with a wedge of lemon on a white plate....side of cole slaw , not so freshly made, the plate looked sterile! One good things going for it, it was hot, got through it. I'm good for another 20 years! If nostalgia is what your into, this is the place to go, if not, keep on driving, it'll probably be the same in 20 more years when you are feeling nostalgic. read more

Mediocre food at best but the service was awful. We order ed boneless wings and the onion chips as apps. When the apps arrived we got regular bone in wings. I asked the waitress for the correct item boneless wings. She informed me I didn't order them boneless. She comes back and tells me their out of boneless wings. The waitress informs us we won't be charged for the bone in wings. When the meals come out she's collecting the plates and says" looks like ya ate wings anyway". Where local go to eat for a affordable fresh meal. Salad bar plus soup is a nice service to community as they have priced it so low not much profit in it to them. Local Mainers with "gold rush" beards and plenty of customers with tattoos who have not tried Ozempic yet....I found service was excellent and nice to see some diversity up in ME. with 2 middle eastern women busing tables. Had a chance to eat there this week and... you be the judge. Pros: We were seated quickly. The salad bar wasn't bad. This is where it falls apart. We had a view of the kitchen where we watched our meals sit for over 10 mins on the heating bench as a cook seemed to repeatedly call a name (maybe our waitess) who was no where to be found. Finally our meals were brought out. Our food wasn't bad but really nothing to write home about either. Biggest complaint, the service. On top of the food drying out on the heating bench it had already been a pretty long wait. We were never asked if we wanted refills (both cups were empty when the food got brought out). We were never asked how it was or if we needed anything (I would have liked tartar sauce with the fish) and just a lack of attention even though the place was pretty quiet and fully staffed. Final thought: Service can make or break a visit. If you eat at a place that the food is mediocre but great service, you may try it again but a place with mediocre food and terrible service? We wanted to try a different restaurant While on vacation last July in Wells Maine. We decided to try Bull and Claw as the Outside always looked appealing to us. Well the appeal promptly disappeared once we were seated. The restaurant , in my opinion ,was not very clean,the food was substandard and the service bad.If you know quality standards of any restaurant you will avoid the Bull and Claw.I felt like it was a terrible waste of my time and money. This was our favorite dinner venue during our three-night stay in the area. Julie ordered the Native Salmon, which she found freshly-tasting, and I enjoyed the the Prime Rib. Food was decent quality and service was friendly. Only recommendation I have is this place should build a wall or place a divider between the kitchen and dinning area. Ate here on Sunday afternoon - most other restaurants in the area were closed. When we got there the hostess said it would be a few minutes because they were understaffed and she had to bus tables and clean dishes. We were sat after 10 minutes. The waitress was friendly, but you could tell she just came back from her smoke break. We ordered scallops, pork chop and chicken fingers - food was ok; it seemed fresh, but no seasoning on anything. It did take a long time to get the food, but we were happy that they were one of the few places open so we went with the flow. This place was ok. Definitely not going to knock your socks off but we were seated immediately at 5pm on a Friday in the summer which is very rare during peak season. We ordered several dishes but I personally had a bowl of clam chowder and shared the 24" Lobster Roll Connecticut Style with butter instead of Mayo. The food took quite a while to come out but I'll chalk that up to covid staffing. Our waitress was regularly checking on us and making sure our drinks were full so that helped. The chowder was pretty good. Thicker than most of the others we had while on vacation. The lobster roll was different than others as it was served on a hard baked roll which was game changing. We could be wrong but it felt like the lobster may have not been freshly prepared and possibly came from a food service company which would make sense giving the good set price. The only real disappointment was the "butter" that was served. We were definitely given the imitation butter oil and not fresh drawn hot butter. Real butter would have put the lobster roll on the top end of my list. Overall the price was fair and food was decent. Our waitress was great. Not a place I would go out of my way to go to but was good in a pinch. read more

Daryl, not only are you a terrible business owner for posting a comment in regards to my review - but not taking it seriously. Your restaurant is for sure subpar. There is nothing fancy nor rewarding in regards to visiting the Bull N' Claw. Many people choose to visit simply because the other restaurants are busy, packed or the wait is just too long. Your biggest draw is your odd commercials you shoot yourself essentially making fun of no one else, but yourself. I apologize that my review of your restaurant was not to your liking - but I do hope that not only locals, but tourists and visitors see how incredibly unprofessional you are and take this into consideration when choosing to dine at your "fine" establishment. read more
