On 4/30/21 my girlfriend was involved in a car accident near Austin and Garfield. She was T-boned by a 2007 suburban on the front drivers side. After collecting the police report and the other drivers insurance, i drove the car back to her home in oak park. After receiving many suggestions to call Bump City, my girlfriend called them and Keith kindly offered to come to her house and inspect the damage to avoid towing fees, because unfortunately my girlfriend has stage 2A osteosarcoma bone cancer and he didn't want to make her take an unnecessary trip on her bad leg. We really appreciated this and had high hopes for Keith. Unfortunately, when Keith got there he told her to "buy a new car" because "i can fix this, but it's just an old car with a lot of miles". My girlfriend called me upset, thinking her car was not cared about. I decided to call because as a naval mechanic and someone with a lot of auto body shop experience I had personally kept up with the maintenance as this car had been in my family since 2012 before I sold it to her. New battery, brakes, rotors, tire rods, a fresh oil change, you name it. Keith told me that "if I wanted", because it was "just an old car with a lot of miles", he would start working on a quote and have it ready by 5/3/21. He seemed more interested in working with me or her dad, not her. We never heard back, and are very disappointed with our interaction with Bump City, especially Keith. They seem to only care for big checks for insurance companies. This job woulve been a great project for an apprentice or a new mechanic. Be cautious when business with Bump City. **UPDATE: My girlfriend and I would like to thank Steve at Bump City calling and asking what went wrong and if there was anything he could do to fix the situation. He apologized and let us know that Keith is a new employe and he wanted to prevent this from happening again. Steve also put together a quote within a few hours of this review. I'd only had my "new" used car for a week when I was rear ended at high speed on the Dan Ryan expressway. Having had a good experience with Bump City years ago, I didn't even shop around, I took my Honda straight to them (my insurance company said "great choice, they are wonderful" when I asked if they were an approved shop for my policy.) Although it took a while to get all the parts and repairs completed, it was worth the wait. My car looks and operates like new and the panel gaps at the tailgate are now even better than they were before! Kind, professional service and good craftsmanship. I was pretty bummed when my old yet reliable car was rear-ended. I had heard good things about these guys and they happened to be covered by the other driver's insurance company so I decided to do the repairs through them. In all it took about two weeks to get the repairs done, most of which was tracking down parts and waiting for them to arrive (pretty typical for an older model car). The repairs are sound and the end result looks great. I was pleasantly surprised to see they washed both the interior and exterior of the car AND that they gifted me with free candy. The only complaint I had was at times it could be hard to track down an update on my repairs. However, the shop seemed to be quite busy when I was there so I think they were just juggling a lot of different customers. No big deal - the guy at the front was happy to provide me any information I needed and was fun to chat with when I had to wait while picking up my car. read more

Not that I hope to get in to a car accident anytime soon or anything, but uhm, I kind of love Bump City and would love to use them again in the future. My journey started about a month or so ago when I was rear ended on an icy morning. Everyone was fine but my car was not so lucky. I decided to wait until I was on spring break at work to have my car fixed so I could rely on CTA and called my insurance company for a list of local locations that were covered for a repair. They recommended Bump City, and since it's a step or two outside of my apartment building- that was really all I needed to hear before I was sold. Little did I know how truly AMAZING they were going to be. I just picked up my car this morning. They were kind enough to hold on to it for me an extra day because I was unable to pick it up on Friday because uhhh, baseball & alcohol. It looks incredible, like new! you can't even tell I was hit, which is saying a lot considering the ugly damage. The staff were SO friendly throughout the entire process and even were so kind as to give me CANDY, a keychain flashlight, and a bottle of paint matching my car's color for touchups upon pickup. They even cleaned the interior & exterior of my car-- not an easy feat with my car (i'm gross). I used insurance and only paid them my deductible, but all things considered I think the work was priced very reasonably. I had a similar accident about 3 or 4 years ago and I got it repaired at a body shop in Downers Grove-- it cost almost double what Bump City charged and I was so unhappy with the customer service & work provided. The only downside was that it took them about a week (5 days) to do my repairs, but they had to order some new parts for me. I think that is such a small price to pay for the kind of customer service I got. I will from now on be a returning customer to Bump City and have already started recommending them to friends and family. Also, I think I'm just gonna go back and start hanging out with their friendly staff on the reg. UPDATE: Did i jinx myself? My car got totaled roughly a month after I posted this review. With two teenage drivers, I have been a frequent client at Bump City. However this last encounter was over-the-top special I had to comment. Our car was on the edge of being totaled. Jennifer and Steve were beyond helpful taking care of everything while I dealt with injuries and insurance. They got the car towed from the pound where the cops had the car taken- Billing insurance directly. They had me call them from the pound to ensure everything was handled so I wouldn't have to go back to them. So I can say without hesitation, even when they end up not making any repairs (the car ended up being totaled), they still really care and show patience and are super helpful. When they do make repairs, they are top notch delivering on time and looking to keep costs low. When I've picked up the repaired cars, they were cleaner than when I bought them - seriously spotless. read more

I took my 2020 VW Jetta there three weeks ago to get an estimate for paint damage on the passenger side. Steve, the owner, told me he'd have the estimate for my insurance claim in about two or three days. After almost two weeks, I called back and gave my name and the inquired about the estimate and he asked for my phone number again and stated that he would call back. Now, three weeks later, I called back and let him know that I was disappointed that he never called back. I'm disappointed because I'd read all of the good reviews on Yelp and maybe one or two negatives. Once I explained my feelings, he offered an apology and stated he was short staffed and that he should have called back like he said. I felt unhappy with that statement. They are very reasonable. It's much less expensive than taking to BMW dealership. I assume it would have been at least twice as much to go to a dealership. They did a great job repairing my car. I think they were overloaded at the time I came so it did take a bit longer for the repair with the caveat that some of that time was due to my insurance company having to come in to approve additional repairs. However, when I got my car back it was in great condition and no one would've ever known I'd gotten into a car accident. They also give a container of lemon heads as an additional service which is pretty nice. I was kind of devastated after my car accident just due to how the accident was handled by my insurance company and the ensuing aftermath, so I really appreciated the care they took with my car and the customer service. I will NEVER go anywhere else to repair my car! For as long as I live. Today, Jessie (long blond hair who works at the front desk) absolutely turned a terrible day into an actual miracle. I had been planning on dropping my minivan off all day but was having issues with Hertz/State Farm on nailing down a minivan rental replacement. Hertz told me that they would let me rent a minivan but that I would have to Uber to Stone Park after I dropped my van off at Bump City in Oak Park. Keep in mind, I have 3 kids aged 4,3, and 1. All in car seats. With a stroller. Multiple bags. I would have to not only have to transfer everything to a rental but also to an Uber for a 40 min drive in rush hour. Jessie heard my plan and immediately got on the phone with enterprise and got me a rental minivan DELIVERED within 10 mins. She watched my kids while I installed car seats. She carried my bags to the car. She gave me water. She listened and helped without being asked. She basically went the extra mile in every way. Well, I was ABSOLUTELY blown away by Bump City's, and especially Steve's, response to my earlier review. Within 24 hours of posting the review, Steve called me back to discuss the review, apologize for the experience (which more than anything was due to some confusion related to a new employee, which was addressed), and genuinely sought feedback on what they could do better. What happened next was 100% proof that the 5 star reviews that Bump City has earned here and on other review sites is absolutely spot on. We went over the estimate given me, with Steve patiently and specifically showing me what work was needed and why. We scheduled the work, with Steve reassuring me that they could get the work done earlier than the original estimate and very much in line with Gerber's, and upon picking up my car just now, I've have a car that literally looks better than when I purchased it from the dealer earlier this year in Jan 2020!! They not only repaired the scrape, but also small nicks and chips elsewhere on the car, washed, vacuumed and buffed it and even polished the TIRES! More than anything else, Steve showed me what a high standard of quality Bump City brings to its work and how much they care for their customers. The work btw also comes with a lifetime warranty. I've used Bump City before, and they've always done a great job. This time, I brought in my VW Eos after someone rear-ended it when I was stopped at a stop light. Brian went way beyond the call of duty in dealing with the other driver's insurance company. Because the claims adjuster was so hard to reach, he spent hours on the phone getting them to approve the updated estimate and a rental car for me. He also spent hours on the phone with VW, trying to get a part needed for the repair. When it wasn't on the boat from Germany as promised, he spent more hours on the phone trying to find out when it would arrive and trying to get an extension on my rental car from the insurance company (it had been in the shop for 30 days by then). I picked up my car yesterday. It looks great, as if nothing happened. And they even gave me a box of gum drops to thank me for my business. If i need a body shop again, there's no question that I'll bring my car to Bump City. read more

I was referred to Bump City by the Firestone down the street, as I had to change the license plates on my car, and the existing plates hadn't been taken off in a number of years. I had attempted to get the screws out myself, and one screw ended up just snapping off, and the other stripped out as soon as I tried to turn it. I came in to Bump City with no advance notice at 4pm on a weekday, and they immediately took a look at my car, told me to wait a few minutes, and drilled out the screw, removed the other screw, and both screws on the front plate, and swapped in my new plates and put new, galvanized, screws in. I tried to ask what I owed them, and they wouldn't take anything for it. If I ever have need of body work in the future, I know where I will be going, and where I will refer my friends! I had a very satisfactory experience with Perfection Auto Body in Oak Park on Garfield just west of OakPark Avenue. I had scraped the right front fender and slightly jammed the door of my 2004 Accord. White paint was like neon on my dark gray car. While he was writing up the estimate I said I wasn't looking for showroom repairs, only a presentable, driveable car. He worked with a rag and a fluid (magic?) to scrub out most of the paint and carefully freed the door. I asked how much and was told "nothing".
