One of the best Italian beefs outside of some of the small mom and pop establishments. The Italian beef is perfectly flavored and you can get it served in a variety of ways (no juice, dipped, regular with a little juice). They also have an option of mild or hot giardinera...yum! And a variety of cheese you can add to the sandwich! Aside from the Italian beef, they have a pretty extensive menu including pizzas and other types of sandwiches. My mind was only focused on the Italian beef, so I can't tell you what else is offered. Oh, you can even get a beef bowl...which is just a bowl of beef, peppers, and cheese...no bread. It sent me 12 minutes away And when I got to the address that was on Yelp wasn't nothing there so I decided to look on Google and it sent me 12 minutes away from where the first address. I visited Buona for the first time right before the Janet Jackson concert. We chose it because it seemed to be a less crowded option. My first impression of the menu was a good one. There's an expansive collection of salads, sandwiches, soups, bbq and burgers. I wasn't very hungry so I decided to simply go for the hotdog and fries. I'd never had an angus beef dog before so it was a new experience for me. It was okay... I wasn't crazy about it but it was edible. The fries were good but the portion size was too small. For the price though I get it. My sister and friend had the Italian beef and the chicken sandwich. My sister thought the chicken sandwich was just ok but our friend said the Italian beef was really good. They both ordered $5 pizzas to go (sausage and pepperoni) that they ate for lunch the next day. They both said the pizzas were really good as well. My sister said it tasted like store bought frozen pizza though. Even though it was good it's not something she'd order again. The service was quick and done with a smile which was great because they were really busy. I probably won't visit Buona again anytime soon but when I eventually get back there I'll look forward to trying something else on the menu. read more

This place was fantastic! It was clean the service was on point and the food was even better! My husband and I ordered the plant based Italian beef it was nothing short of amazing. I couldn't even tell it was vegan and I'm vegan! If you're ever in the area you HAVE TO STOP AND TRY THE Italian beef vegan or carnivore it was amazing. I'm from way down south in Texas and knew I wanted to try some of the local cuisine while up here working. Came here based on a friends recommendation. Ordered the Big Hurt Italian sandwich. Come with peppers and "baptized". (Reference the menu pic). It is fully dipped in the gravy. You will need a fork to eat it. The bread is sopping wet. But overall it is a very good sandwich. I am ashamed to say I came to a place called Buona Beef and got a salad. My colleague and I had a client visit in the area and we were looking for a place to grab a quick lunch. We rolled into a complex and our choices were Buona Beef and Steak & Shake. We both thought Buona would be the better choice. By the time we decided to park I noticed there was a long line, but I guess it made sense because it was around 12:30. We walked in and there was not a lot of seats available, but I figured we would be ok When you walk in there are menus by the door so you can figure out what you want while you wait. I was still a little full from a bowl of cereal in the morning so I went with the BUONA Chopped Salad ($5.95). It includes lettuce, cucumber, carrot, black olives, roma tomato, red peppers, Gorgonzola, penne pasta, and crispy chips in a sweet red vinaigrette. One of the best salads I have ever tasted! We were in a hurry so I did not get a chance to finish, but I know next time I have a chance to hit up Buona, I will come with my stomach ready for a full dose of the fabulous salad. read more

After landing at O'hare, and before driving to Hobart, Indiana, we needed some authentic Chicago grub but did not want to trek into the city. On a recommendation from a former Chicagoan, we we tried Buona for its "Original Italian Beef" sub. I had mine "The Buona Way" which is served with and extra scoop of beef juice to give the sub a nice level of sogginess, and added mozzarella and hot giardiniera peppers. Overall I think Portillos has the better beef, but Buona wins on the option of sides, including their better tasting fries. Okay. I came here with my parents to go out and eat something. I have been to the one near Arlington Heights and their burgers there were awesome. The place is big, clean, and had a semi-outdoor area to eat some food; not much to say. We looked at the menu and I found that they had some Italian Beef. Usually we go to Portillo's and get the Italian beef there (dipped and with the giradinera or the little pepper things). The price seemed reasonable for around $7 for a double. Italian beef was a bit more expensive but alright, around the same price as Portillo's. We ordered the double Angus burger with harvarti (yum) cheese with everything on it. My dad also got the Italian Beef and we were sat down. Soon enough (around 10-15 minutes) our order came out and first things first, the burger is HUGE. I mean HUGE! The bread was not too fluffy and sort of chewy-ish. This burger is not the "organic, non GMO, so fresh, and #locally grown, but wow, the Angus patty tasted pretty good compared to others. It is a bit greasy though (as in over greasy but hey, I guess that's an Angus patty; at least it's not dry) but a bit excessive. It tasted meaty and great! However, there was just a little piece of tomato, a couple shrivels of lettuce, and boy was there a TON of mayo/ketchup dripping down. TL:DR? Burger was huge, patty tasted great, not so good vegetables, and an imbalance of flavors (too greasy and over meat-ified). Now to the Italian Beef. The Italian beef wasn't so bad. I had a couple bites out of it. I looked at the receipt an it looked like they charged us for the two pieces of pepper. At the cashier they just asked what TYPE of pepper I wanted and I assumed it was included (my fault? Their fault?). About the actual beef itself...it has a average amount of beef but not a generous amount. The beef tasted pretty good; not too salty and not to bland and the bread was chewy. I wound up with a beef and sausage sandwich and had it 'dipped' . Apparently that's also a 'must have'. I felt it lacked flavor. It would be good with some spicy brown mustard, either jalapeno's or pepperoncini's. I've honestly I've had better sandwiches at Safeway (Von's). Anyway, they always say give a place at least one chance. Unfortunately I wasn't in the Chicago area long enough to give it a second go round. The interior was casual. Lot's of seating. There are other options on the menu but the beef sandwiches are what was recommended. Parking is a breeze and it was convenient to walk to the restaurant from the place where my group was lodged at. The staff was friendly and service was fast. The meat didn't really taste fresh so for everything else, I gave the 3 stars. A simple walk for a simple Sunday dinner. We came in to a fairly empty restaurant, so we walked right up to the order counter. Our order taker was somewhat helpful, though a little detached. She did well, and our order was placed. 10 minutes or so later, our order came out fresh and tasty. Upon looking at our bill, we noticed that the extra $1.00 charge for an upgraded meal was actually billed as $1.25. The manager went off for about another 10 minutes, and finally the cashier came back with our quarter. How often do they charge the $1.25? Not good. I've tried many Italian Beef, but this place really got it going. 1) Bread - just the right texture and integrity to soak in the au jus at the bottom.
