Stopped into Buontempo Bros. in Bel Air and tried their $13.99 sub meal special, which comes with your choice of an 8 inch sub, fries, and a drink. We went with the Italian. The bread tasted fresh and was soft with a nice chew to it. The meats were good overall. I especially liked the firmer texture of the salami, and the capicola had a lot of flavor. The ham was more of your standard domestic ham. I do wish they had been a little more generous with the amount of meat on the sub. What really made the sandwich stand out was their vinegar and spice blend. It added so much flavor and really brought everything together. Overall, it was a decent Italian sub. Not the best we have ever had, but still enjoyable and flavorful. The fresh cut fries were actually one of my favorite parts of the meal. They were boardwalk style, tasted great, and you get a really generous portion with the special. We also ordered a garlic breadstick, which came out piping hot. It was soft and had plenty of garlic flavor. The marinara was your typical pizza shop style sauce, but paired nicely with it. Service when ordering was very fast and direct. It was more to the point than particularly warm or chatty, but we were taken care of quickly and never felt like anyone was being rude. The waitress who brought our food and handled our refills was an absolute sweetheart though. She was very friendly and attentive and added a really nice touch to the experience. The restaurant itself has that classic old school neighborhood pizza shop atmosphere, which I really enjoyed. For $13.99 for an 8 inch sub, fresh cut fries, and a drink, I thought the meal special was a pretty good value. I would definitely come back and try some of their other menu items. read more

I've loved Buontempo's for 20 years, specifically the buffalo chicken pizza. They must have changed the recipe because the pizza I got today was seriously lacking. Lacking sauce, lacking spice, lacking cheese. I also ordered Mac and cheese bites but they gave us Mozz sticks with no marinara sauce instead. Hoping it's just an off day and they aren't going downhill after so many years. Just disappointing. read more

A few flies visited us throughout our dining experience. The slice of meat pizza was good. My son liked the crispy, yet still chewy bottom. He did spit out a piece of ham that had some cartilage. The slice is a really good portion so he could not finish it. I thought I had to wait for my name to be called to pick up the slice, but the staff brought it out to our seat. I'm from New Jersey and always in search of pizza made like that. I stumbled across this restaurant and I am so glad I did. The cheese slice I had was perfect. I also had a stuff slice with spinach and mozzarella and ricotta (maybe) and it was delicious. Staff was nice and restaurant has plenty of seating options to include what could be a party room in the back. With the parking garage right behind it-I felt this would be an ideal pizza party. The owners create a welcoming environment which is the biggest reason why I go, but I must admit, the pizza is the best in Bel Air, I've recently ventured away from my standard pepperoni pizza order to try some of the other offerings and was pleased with everything so far (sandwiches, appetizers and fish). Some times the pizza is cooked just right, other times it seems the pizza is under cooked!! IT use to be the best pizza in town. We drive from the other side of Aberdeen and bring a special insulated pizza delivery carrier so the pizza stays warm. Last Friday we called and ordered a large Pizza and when we got it home the crust was raw and even alot ofthe cheese wasn't melted. We had to put this in the oven to bake it longer. What happened to this place? As a pizza-picky New Jerseyan, this used to be a great spot to grab a pie but in the year since I last visited this place has gone DOWNHILL. The restaurant itself was filthy with paint peeling off the walls, sticky salt/pepper shakers on the equally sticky tables, dingy carpet that who knows was last cleaned and flies swarming about...overall just disgusting. The food was equally disappointing... wilted brown lettuce in the dinner salad, greasy flavorless pizza (seems they've changed their cheese because it was bland and waxy), and an unknown hard inedible "object" in the tuna salad. Needless to say we will not be returning and I suggest that anyone else do themselves a favor and try the nearby Italian Sensation or Fortunado Brothers. read more

Been eating here for 30+ years in the same location, but different owners and different names... As they've grown, the quality of the food as slowly gone downhill. Very classic looking pizza joint, but don't be fooled the menu is HUGE. I asked for a recommendation and I ended up with a slice of chicken bacon ranch pizza (very solid) and the penne vodka (super yummy). The cheesesteak was good: good flavor, tender meat, plenty of cheese, mushrooms and banana peppers like I asked for. Partner got a burger and fries which I tasted. Ordered a 16" pepperoni for pick-up.It looked and smelled beautiful, and tasted really good too! Waaaaaaaaaaaay better than Box Hill. Only downside is they don't deliver and are about 15 minutes from me. So the pizza was cold when I got home. If they delivered this would easily be my go-to pizza place. But because they don't I'm still on the hunt. I think this will likely become our "go-to" for pizza eating out at the restaurant instead. Unless we find superior pizza elsewhere. read more

I'm kind of shocked that the reviews are high on this one. Our one and only time trying this tonight. I was craving spaghetti and meatballs tonight. One bite of the meatballs told me I made the wrong choice. I'm assuming they are very frozen from the bag and heated in the microwave because there was no sauce on them, they were not hot, and just very... no.. I didn't even share with my dogs. I hate to be so harsh but even French fries that were ordered for someone else came out of the bowl completely caked together when she tried to pick one up. Wings got an "ehhh" from the 2 orders we got.. I'm not a wing person so I wouldn't know. Even the chicken tenders were mainly breading. Just very disappointing. This place was one of a kind. I met the owner while my wife and I where in there and it was fantastic. Probably 20 different kinds of pizza all in one restaurant. It was really good and unlike any pizza place I have had. Pizza with crunchy bottom and it was fantastic. The service was very prompt and then my drink was always full. Not a huge drink selection, and the prices where a bit high bit the flavor was understood. Fantastic atmosphere and we will be returning!!!! Thanks again. The only reason they get 2 stars is that the pizza was just fine. We had 2 crab dishes, 1 pasta dish and the cream of crab soup. You can't put some old bay in potato soup and call it cream of crab... and don't call something crab pasta if there is no crab. They sure charged us for it.
