The tea leaf salad was pricey but was a fairly big portion. It was dressed generously and had a good amount of toppings as well. Flavors were delicious, textures were well-balanced. Fresh, garlicky, crunchy. The nan-gyi-dok was also good and hearty and rich with flavor. I asked for lemon and more chili on the side, which my husband thought really improved the dish. Went to Burma Light for lunch today with friends. The restaurant itself is comfortable (not too big, not too small), clean and felt nice on a warm afternoon. I've not had Burmese food before and was excited to try this place out. I read in other reviews that the items on the menu are a cross between Thai, Indian, and Chinese food and I found this to be true. Three of us shared the Tea Leaf salad, Burma string beans, and black pepper beef with a bowl of coconut rice. I was excited to try the tea leaf salad because there were so many positive reviews about this salad and it sounds so exotic. Perhaps my expectations were too high because I found the salad to be good, but not great. I felt like there was some ingredient missing to make the salad taste lighter and brighter (my expectations of a salad). Perhaps some citrus or fresh fruit...something to make it more enjoyable in this type of weather. I would definitely order it the fall and/or winter, but I don't think I would order this salad again in the summer. The black pepper beef was delicious. The meat was tender and the sauce flavorful. The green beans were the hit of the lunch. I could eat the whole plate of green beans on my own, but since we ordered family style I didn't (but next time I'm ordering a plate for just me!). The coconut rice was also delicious. The rice was moist, but not overly, and sweet, but not overly (although I really like sweet things, so some might find it too sweet). We had the option of spice levels - from no heat, to mild, medium, high. We ordered the beef and green beans with mild heat. We all really enjoyed our meal. They also have a great lunch menu to choose from in case you prefer a meat, heat level, etc. different from the rest of your party. Layout/decor/seating is good. Staff is well-dressed & cheerful. We had a sleepy baby on the shoulder and staff was very thoughtful in accomplishing a booth so the baby can sleep. Our server was wonderful. The food we ordered was awesome. Salt and Pepper Chicken was not dry and had a great flavor. The Lamb Kebat was juicy and flavorful. The Shrimp Fried Rice has roe in it which gives a great texture to the food and feels like a party in your mouth. The garlic noodles were wonderful. Dessert was delicious. We arrived early at 5:50pm on Thursday, we were greeted right away when we step in. There are so many options but since we never tried Burmese food, we just randomly pick stuff that looks familiar to what we usually order. Appetizer: Papaya Salad - this is very different from what we got at a Thai restaurant in a much better way. Salt and pepper calamari - portion is pretty good but had better at Chinese restaurant Main: Lemongrass Chicken - chicken is very tender Garlic prawn - this was the best Fried rice - pretty good Pad Thai - while this is not too bad, it's again different than what I was expecting Service was excellent, server is checking in our table pretty often. Even when the restaurant is 80% full. When my little guy dropped his folk, the server is coming with a new one 5 sec after! How wonderful to have a Burmese restaurant in Folsom! I think it used to be a burger place and nice to see them change the decor inside. Service was VERY lovely. Friendly and patient and helpful. Very accommodating. We asked for mint leaves on the side, a to go drink, and to go sauces. On to the food. I think they fry really well. The salt and pepper calamari was hot and not greasy. It was crispy and tasty. The fried chicken wings were also done really well. Crispy and not greasy. There was no seasoning until I realized the sauce on the side for dipping was the flavor bomb. Fish sauce is in it, I believe so lots of umami and flavors. I enjoyed it a lot. Everything else just needed more seasoning. We had the lamb curry with the paratha. The paratha was soft and flakey but on the greasy side. The lamb curry was nice but under seasoned. Loved the textures in the tea leaf. We asked for the leaves on the side so we could adjust. Based on previous reviews it's either too salty or not enough. I liked the taste, it's kind of a dank earthy taste. We asked for extra mint leaves to brighten it up. It could also use more acid. I wished they had the rainbow salad (like at Burma superstar in SF) with the 22 different ingredients. I like that salad more due to its brightness from the tamarind, and it also has a better texture profile, not just crunchy. Bro had the chicken salad. He said it was ok. A nice salad. I ordered a noodle dish that included hard boiled egg and chicken. I feel like this could be something really good. Similar to Nam ya, or kao soi, a Thai dish. It has a very light (too light) curry taste. I would love more salt and some acid. And the noodles were overcooked. So the soft noodles with the soft egg and the soft chicken was a little boring texture wise. They did have some crispy bit of... onions? Wonton strips? But that quickly gets soggy. I ended up adding the sliced cabbage that came under the appetizers, the sauce from the fried chicken wings, and hot sauce. It has so much potential! Having a crunchy texture helped, more salt and acid definitely helped. Theres stuff on the menu I'd want to try but I'm hoping that they're not shying away from flavor to make things more.... I saw great reviews on Yelp so I decided to give it a try. Burma Light is a fusion of Burmese/Indian/Thai/Chinese cuisine which was new to me as I've never tried Burmese food before. My absolute favorite must be the salt and pepper fried calamari, it is so crispy yet the batter is very thin which I love, calamari itself is moist means it's not overcooked:P I would definitely try the wings next time! Lettuce wrap is delicious, would order it again. Dry curry is a little spicy, great with rice but I will probably try the regular curry next time. My least favorite is the garlic noodle, this is plain noodle with seasoning, it tastes ok but personally I prefer more flavorful stir-fried noodle. The Palata with coconut chicken curry was delicious. The Tea Leaf Salad with Burmese tea leaves, fried garlic, yellow beans, peanuts, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, tomatoes, jalapeños, lemon and greens was crunchy, fresh and bursting with exceptional flavors. The Burmese-style curried chicken thighs were simmered in lemongrass, onions, potatoes, ginger, garlic, masala, paprika, bay leaves and topped with fish sauce...absolutely splendid, especially with a side of Burmese-Indian rice. After driving past this place so many times and saying, we really need to try this out... we finally did today. We were NOT disappointed! The food was AMAZING. Curtis our waiter was so kind and helpful in helping us decide. We let him know this was our fist try with Burmese cusine, and he let us know such good information describing the flavors that we should expect. On a rainy and windy day in February 2024 I went to this place for dinner after a Search within Yelp. Easy to access and the fist impression ambiance wise it is so good. They greeted and seated us quickly. This place is a combo of Thai and Indian. But I see there are some authentic Burmese food and placed the order. The quality of food and tastes are great for a normal person and for foodie this is ok kind of place. They charged extra for veggies when I ordered the fried rice and I didn't see any veggies other than broccoli. When I took it to the manager they apologized. Moving from the Bay Area we have been on the search for decent Burmese ever since we came to Roseville. We've tried the place in Loomis- massive fail, the place in Davis is ok. Burma Light in Folsom is hands down the winner. No question. The restaurant itself is a decent size and clean/ modern. The service was fast and very friendly. Our server was so nice and had a plethora of suggestions for us. The menu had everything we expected and more. The tea leaf salad was as close to our favorite place in the Bay Area as you can get- if not BETTER! The mint jalapeño chicken was melt in your mouth tasty with equal parts spicy and minty. The palata was flaky and crunchy. Literally everything we got was delicious. I will honestly make the drive from Roseville just to get the tea leaf salad. I'm glad to have a Burmese restaurant closer to where I live. The service and food here is excellent. The restaurant was very clean and had a very peaceful atmosphere. I started with the Tea Leaf Salad which I give a 8/10. It's very refreshing and has great flavor. Next time I would order it without jalapeños just because I don't like the taste of them very much. I also tried the Burmese Garlic Noodles (8.5/10). It had a nice strong umami garlic flavor and the sauce they give you on the side makes it tastes even better.
