Came here after Sunday service with family and friends. We are fans of Korean food and hot bowls prior to this so we were looking forward to it. The lady at front taking orders was really great at explaining things and answering questions as they have an ordering process where you go through the bowl type, rice, proteins, toppings. My daughters split the Bulgogi regular bowl, my wife went with spicy shrimp hot bowl, and I went with garlic pork hot bowl. We also ordered the fried dumplings and chicken tenders as appetizers. Food comes out fairly fast. Maybe 6-8 mins for the first one to come out and then each bowl comes out a minute or two after that. The dumplings plate didn't make it past my daughters (9, 13) so I would say it was pretty good. I did get some of the chicken tenders and they have a sort of sweet and spicy sauce to it. Light coating of sauce on top of the fried tenders. My daughter's feedback on the Bulgogi was that it was a lot of rice and not a lot of Bulgogi. I noticed that when the plate came out. However, my daughters also didn't like all the toppings that are supposed to come with it so probably why it didn't really have similar proportions. I did try it as they rarely finish their plates (they are full from appetizers usually) and agreed while the flavor was good, not a lot of Bulgogi vs rice. My wife's spicy shrimp was pretty good according to her. She also doesn't like all the toppings so was left with a lot of rice. She did mention that one shrimp out of the 8 or so that she got was overcooked. I did see her lay it to the side and clearly it was a little overcooked versus the rest being ok. Garlic pork was pretty good. I requested all the toppings along with an egg on top and thought it was pretty good. Something great about the fried rice from the heat of the bowl at the bottom just makes it a great finish. I tried their spicy paste and it's pretty good. Of course it will cover your salt content for the day, but definitely flavorful. At about $10 per hot bowl and $6 for each appetizer I'd say price is fine. Here you pay up front and then get your meal after. Place I thought was clean and spaced out well. They did have one designed table for 8-10 people. I did not visit the restrooms. I've had my reservations on Korean fast food. Honestly, it's been a let down at a number of other stops I've had. However I was pleasantly surprised visiting this location of Burning Rice. There was a steady stream of customers coming in which was a good sign. Wife and I stopped by and ordered 2 different bowls, both of the spicy variation. They had a nice little self serve bar to pick up a few Knick knacks but we wanted to save room for what we ordered. Both dishes were really good, was originally concerned about them being overly salty but it wasn't. We weren't very hungry so we packed what we didn't finish to go home and they reheated very well. I hate to give them a lower score because I've been ordering bowls for a long time here. Pre-Covid they used to offer a soup and salad bar. That went away and never returned. When ordering for delivery, they used to give you 2 sauces; now it's one. More often than not, the 1 sauce isn't even full. My order today contained 1 sauce that was 1/4 full (I felt like it was someone's leftover.) I had to eat a bowl with dry chicken and it was virtually tasteless. A tiny bit Americanized Korean fast food. The bowls are great. You pick your bowl and size, the rice, meat and then veggies. My friend and I got the hot stone bowl with pineapple galbi on kimchi rice and all toppings. It was good, but I realized halfway my bowl did not have galbi, it was more like bugolgi, no spare ribs at all. Yet my friends bowl had the spare ribs. Since I was busy talking and halfway through, so I didn't want to make a fuss about it. The bugolgi didn't have that much flavor to it. I'm sure the galbi would have tasted better. The kimchi was disappointing. I had a lot of it and it was not spicy at all! I even added their "very spicy sauce" and it still did not do anything for me. I got the hot stone bowl which did its job well! Too well! I burned my tongue on the food a couple of times. I was busy talking to my friend to notice I had picked up steaming hot rice and meat. You have variety of options to choose from, I got the hot stone kimchi rice with bulgogi and everything mixed in it. The service was awesome, everyone was so nice. I asked what fish cake was and they gave me a sample to try (tasted like fish sticks to me). They have unlimited soup and salad while you wait and the food came out pretty quick. The portion sizes are so large, my husband who usually eats all his food had plenty of left overs to take home. If you get the hot stone, the food comes out in a extremely hot stone bowl and makes the rice yummy and crispy at the bottom. The egg was cooked perfectly and I love all the veggies. I'm excited to try all the different rice/meat options. I really enjoyed both soups: seaweed and miso soup. The salad bar had this yummy white seasame sauce that I loved and mixed in with my hot stone meal. Service here is very friendly and they're helpful for those that aren't completely familiar with bibimbop. The concept is similar to a lot of the new build-your-own-bowl restaurants that have been trending over the past year or so. Idea is fairly simple though: 1. Choose your bowl: Regular Bowl ($9.95), Hot Stone Bowl ($10.95), or Kid's Bowl ($6.95) - The regular bowl comes in a plain ceramic like bowl while the hot stone bowl is the signature hot stone that keeps the food hot while you eat and if you're patient enough to let your food sit for a few more minutes (supposedly 10-15 more) you can have the hot crispy rice on the bottom that some individuals enjoy. The Kid's bowl is a good size and it alone would be enough to fill up most adults. 2. Choose your rice: White, Brown, vegetable stirred, or kimchi stirred 3. Choose your BBQ Topping: Lots of options here, but I ended up trying the bulgogi, spicy chicken, and garlic pork tenders. 3 separate bowls of course as you only choose one option here. 4. Choose your Side Toppings: A variety of vegetables such as spinach, mushrooms, or bean sprouts. Options also include fish cake, japchae (Korean Glass Noodles), and a cooked to order egg (Usually sunny side up or fried is some way). You can also opt to simply get all the side toppings on the menu, which is exactly what I had. I actually love this place. Like, a lot a lot. Typical bibimbap sides and add-ons. Love that they have the buffet line for the soup and their sesame salad dressing is bomb. I was surprised to see this place among a non Asian shopping center in the Colony, so I couldn't wait to try it out. It's pretty much like a Korean Bibimbop Chipotle with unlimited soup and salad and dessert. You get to choose which bowl you like, the type of meat, and the veggie toppings. Some things are an additional cost, but most of it is included in the price. Then you choose your own seating and you can go up to the salad bar and make your own salad. There's not much of a variety you choose from the salad, but it's typical Korean salad with your choice of 2 dressings, either the sesame ginger, or the orange tart one. I liked the sesame ginger. There's also 2 soups, either miso or seaweed. They both were mediocre to me. The Bibimbop was pretty good and piping hot since I ordered the hot stone. You can get the hot sauce on the side if you like. Everything looked good and tasted good, but you do get hot after eating it...so it's a perfect dish for the winter. I could only eat half of it though. You also can go back to the salad bar and get an unlimited order of orange slices...which were my fav. DANG... I just loved the bowl I had here... my mouth waters just thinking about it... Just about perfect experience. I'd been excited to try this place, and we finally found the right time to drop by. I went with a spicy bulgogi bowl with brown rice and added most of the options. I got the kimchi on the side after reading reviews saying it was pretty spicy, and I ended up enjoying adding in as needed. The "spicy bulgogi" itself was really not spicy, IMO, although it had good spice to it and the flavor was AWESOME. Loved it. The lady who took our order said the spicy chicken is spicier, so I'll try that next time. My wife got the pineapple galbi steak bowl with most of the free add-ons. She enjoyed hers, but not as much as I enjoyed mine. She wasn't as excited to come back ASAP. Not sure if it's just not her style or if it was her bowl. I'm not a pineapple fan (I know, I know), so I didn't try hers. The free toppings were fun and mostly good. The japchae (potato noodles) looked fun and had an interesting texture but didn't add to the bowl at all, IMO. The bean sprouts were huge, which was cool. The zucchini was cooked perfectly. The kimchi was indeed spicy - but good - and I'm glad I got it on the side to add in here and there as I wanted. We both had our eggs scrambled (vs the usual sunny side up), which I know is not the norm but we enjoyed it. The brown rice was cooked perfectly, too. The only thing we'd both definitely skip next time was the fish cake. When I asked about it, she said it was simply small pieces of white fish. I tend to like white fish, so hey, no big deal. I don't know how else to describe these things other than rubbery pork rinds. They were like soggy fat shavings. Gross. Sorry if that's normal and most customers like it, but both of us thought they were gross. It was a texture thing, not a flavor thing. Definite skip next time for us. Only other potential complaint: tables were slow to be cleared. There are only 4 tables on the patio (each a 4-top), and we moved stuff off a nicely shaded table because we really wanted to sit outside. The dishes sat on the table next to us the entire meal. But all in all, after picking out the fish cake, I LOVED my bowl. It tasted fresh and healthy. I was satisfied and full but felt like I'd had a healthy meal afterwards. The food came out fast, too, so they clearly make most (all?) of this stuff ahead of time - yet it still tasted fresh and was hot and delicious. They have a soda fountain, too, with free refills. I can't wait to grab another lunch or even dinner here. Final bonus: they don't serve alcohol, but - ta da! - they're BYOB! Love love love that. Next time maybe we'll do dinner instead of lunch and bring some cold beers to perfect this experience. How times has changed. This was the gold standard when they first opened. At the time, we used to come every few weeks as we loved the soup and salad option. Over the years as they started to expand, I've been to the one in Plano and in Bedford. Overall, seemed the quality and taste has gone downhill. I loved the food at burning rice, they have moved to a ring your self up model. I can understand why companies do this. But I wanted to order a side a rice something they for sure have and it's not an option. I go to the front and they act like the request is insane. If you move to a ring yourself up model you need to have employees who will understand and support simple requests. When I used to be rung up by a human being at burning rice a simple request like a side of white rice wasn't a big deal. I paid for a side of rice you are just costing yourself money. Also today I paid for a soda, the machine ringing me didn't tell me soda were not working- if a human rang us up they would told us the soda's were not working. I never thought I would be posting a negative review of Burning Rice but here we are. When I started my order on the kiosk I immediately saw there were major changes in the options. I could no longer order Garlic Pork (and I know they removed other meats too) and no more fish cake could be added and I could only choose scrambled eggs. I see an addition for onions but I don't care for onions personally. I was thrown off but decided to go with bulgogi and hope for the best. However, my meat had something hard in it and hurt my teeth, besides that the carrots and zucchini are now cut differently and the bowl is now delivered in a to go container. I also can't choose my own sauce anymore. I'm so sad to be writing this as I loved coming here.
