I would have maybe given this run down place a 3 star because their food was pretty good. However, some of the potato slices, which is served with about everything instead of french fries, were made with black rotten potatoes! One in our party had the waitress take them away because they were so bad. No apology, no replacement, nor any offer to subtract anything from bill. But that wasn't the biggest negative. When the six of us walked in we asked if we could put two tables together. Waitress said NO. We had to split up. Then we got our bill and the same waitress added 20% gratuity "for a table of six". We obviously refused to pay it and she took it off but was a total snot. read more

This is a great stop if you are in the middle of nowhere I need a great burger. We came on a Friday afternoon around 4 PM and was able to get a table right away on the patio. We needed the patio since we had about three dogs with us and it was way too hot to keep them in the car - the staff was super friendly and nice to our pups. I split just the regular burger and potato wedges with a friend and it was really flavorful and amazing. Our table also ordered the sugar spicy wings and the guys raved about those. I also split the blue cheese wedge and that was pretty good too. We heard that their pies were amazing and homemade so we each ordered a different one. I ordered the chocolate whiskey pie and wasn't a fan of the flavor. The whiskey was just overbearing and took away from the chocolate flavor. However the crust was definitely homemade and flaky. Prices were a tad on the high side but what do you expect when you're in the middle of nowhere Utah? I would definitely come back again if I'm in the area but try something different or order a different pie flavor. read more

We simply got lucky with this random stop in Boulder. A unique and surprising menu featuring locally raised grass fed beef, pickled veggies, home made ketchup (without corn syrup), homemade sweet potato pie ... The food is great, I had the B&G burger :o) The staff is very friendly I only wish this place was close to my home in San Diego :o/ p.s. Drive 15 miles along Burr Trail and back before you continue down Highway 12. You'll be glad you did! read more

After a long day of hiking, we picked up "to go" from the grill and were incredibly impressed!! We both had the Red Rock Burger and it was to die for!!! We are still talking about how good it was 3 days later. We are from Houston and have had our share of gourmet burgers, these are right up there with some of the best we've ever had. We also had the fried green tomatoes, delicious!!! Green tomatoes are one of my favorite treats and these did not disappoint! They are topped with a smokey salsa and tangy sauce that just took the tomatoes to the next level. It was a little pricey, but the food was so good that I ended up perfectly fine with the price. read more

Come for the burgers. Stay for the pie. Not sure you can find much good or interesting to eat on the drive from Bryce to Capitol Reef but this was recommended to us and it's outstanding. We spent the morning hiking through some slot canyons (check out Peekaboo and Spooky Gulch if you're up for some off-the-grid adventuring) and drove the Burr Trail Grill for a late lunch. Hwy 12 is a beautiful drive and this is such a good stop along the way. Everything is made with care. Service is pleasant. There's an adjacent shop with local crafts art and coffee but the burgers and pies are really the draw here. read more

Stumbled upon this place after spending a few days in the Grand Staircase Monument and boy was it a treat! The very friendly owner greeted us when we walked in the door and made us instantly feel welsome. He recommended the fried green tomatoes and they were life changing. Then we had their wedge salad which was massive, delicious and perfect for two. We topped it off with their western burger with potato wedges. Killer lunch. The food here was absolutely amazing! A great little "Dive" right off the highway w/ excellent food & great prices. You got to to keep an eye out for it; we initially passed it as it's right after the turn heading North on Hwy 12. We had a party of 12 people and everyone was impressed by their orders. We ordered the following: 1) BTG BURGER W/ SLAW - this is what a hamburger should taste like (and some of our party was from KS and familiar w/ grass fed beef)! Very juicy even when cooked to medium. You can tell this was free range, grass fed beef. The toppings & bun were great as well. Burger = A+, Slaw = B (pretty ordinary slaw) 2) WINGS APPETIZER - best dry rub wings we've ever had. The sugar & spice were perfect ratio. the blue cheese was excellent and their house sauce was delicious. There was a little bit of slaw that came w/ the wings but it was different flavor than what the side of slaw that came w/ the BTG burger. This slaw had a very different flavor I think from the cilantro & was excellent, they should serve it as a side, cause it was really good & I wanted more than just the little garnish. Wings = A+, Slaw = A 3) CRISPY CHICKEN SANDWICH - Fantastic. Crispy outside, juicy inside. Good bun & toppings, but needed a little bit more flavor of some kind (maybe a special sauce that can be added on the side), but overall really good. Chicken Sandwich = A- 4) FRENCH DIP SANDWICH - There's nothing like Wagyu beef for a French Dip & this sandwich did not disappoint. Beef was tender & juicy & the bun was perfect for dipping into juice not falling apart after dipping. French Dip = A+ 5) KIDS GRILLED CHEESE W/ "FRIES" - The kids (ages 6, 8, & 10) said it was the best grilled cheese they'd ever had, so good the adults didn't even get to try any as it disappeared so fast. It looked like it had a very buttery bun so that may have contributed to it getting eaten so fast. The kids didn't eat the "fries" as they were thick, potato wedges which most of our party (including adults) were not fans of thick cut, wedge fries, but we did taste them & most everyone concluded, "they were the best wedge fries they had ever eaten w/ really good seasoning". Grilled Cheese = A+, Fries = A (if you like thick fries) 6) RUEBEN - excellent flavor, great sauce-to-meat ratio. Nice toasted rye bread. Rueben = A Thanks for a great meal! read more

Went in with no expectations, just hungry, left super impressed with our meals. The restaurant itself is fine and cozy for its remote location but off a scenic highway. Outdoor seating was small but comfortable. We had burgers, mine was Thai, delicious, my friend loved hers. We ordered a cauliflower appetizer that came with grits. I usually don't like grits but these were so fantastic that for our entire trip we compared all our meals with the grits. Overall, customer service was fine, facilities fine, food was outstanding. read more

Stopped here when the highway temporarily closed due to flash flooding. Had lamb burger and fried polenta with goat cheese, both of which looked and tasted fresh and were super delicious. Different from other roadside grills/restaurants you can find throughout Utah! Even if you're not forced to stop due to weather extremes, you should stop here on your road trip to meet the nice staff, have a beer and eat good food in a rural atmosphere. read more

We have eaten all over the west and this is my absolute favorite place to eat.....seriously the BEST! We have been a handful of times and the food and service is consistent. We love good burgers and haven't tried any of the other entrees, but I imagine they are equally amazing. The burgers are so fresh- the beef itself is such good quality that they don't need much else on them. My favorite is the Red Rock burger. We have tried most of the appetizers and they wow us every time. If it's your first time here, for sure go with the fried green tomatoes. And then save room for pie!! We've tried them all-peach is probably our fav. This meal will cost you, but I promise it's worth every penny. Don't skimp- order a bit of everything and you'll dream about it for days. The ingredients are so fresh and many of them are local to the area. The service is always happy and friendly. Perfect place to eat after a long day in Capitol Reef. read more

This restaurant is perfect for me. This is because I like places that are a bit more casual, where the emphasis is on the quality of the food and the relaxed ambience as opposed to fancy dress and lace doilies on the table. The atmosphere is a bit rustic. The dining area is intimate, perhaps six or seven tables arranged against a bank of large windows looking out to incredible views of the surrounding mountains and fields. There is also an outdoor seating area under the trees, where you can listen to the moving of the nearby cows. The staff are younger, some with tattoos and T-shirts with skateboard or metal band logos. If such things alarm you, just set those concerns aside right now. The staff are all very helpful, very friendly, attentive, courteous, and quick. One of the best parts of the meals that we have had here are the long conversations that we have had with these wonderful people. The food is outstanding. They make an arugula salad something like a Caesar which is unique, crunchy and fresh with fried capers and a tart dressing, the memory of which is making me drool even as I am writing this. Their lamb burger is meaty, substantial, flavorful and rich. I went back twice just to enjoy their amazingly tender pork shoulder, accompanied by flavored mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. Lastly, the pies are truly phenomenal. We enjoyed three different pies: spiced cherry, multi-berry, and peach. Every one of them homemade and beyond delicious. read more

Something has changed at Burr Trail Grill. For years, i have made a point of stopping for lunch or dinner here. There is still an inkling of their former creativity in the appetizer menu, but the burgers were nothing special last night. Meat overcooked and very grizzly. It was the kind of burger that makes you wonder why you're not a vegetarian. Fries were meh. I should have gotten the salad. They used to have other creative dinner entrees...not really anymore sadly. Might try Hells Backbone next time I'm in Boulder. read more

Creative menu, excellent presentation, friendly staff, eclectic decor, outdoor seating, yummy craft beer selections, and the most amazing pies in the world!! Believe me, I have been in search of the best pies and I think I have found them! Burr Trail Grill was a gem of a place to stumble upon when we were taking the Scenic Byway 12 through Southern Utah. This is a place you need to go out of your way to experience for the foody and for the person who appreciates good home cooked eats! Hats off to the chef and baker!
