An impressive and scrumptious hell of a dinner was enjoyed here by my husband and I. We came here to celebrate his year addition and it is recommended by the both of us. When you walk in, you'll notice the pennies on the ground for good luck or whatever else you think it means. To each their own. And it smells like a campfire. It mixes well to the restaurant's modern decor. So, we waited for a little bit after confirming our reservation. A tip: The restaurant only does Open Table reservations for parties of 4 to 5 people. You have to call if it's a different amount. Odd, but it's the way it is. Of course, the menu has all different options to choose from. We settled for the chorizo fondue for the appetizer. It was very good with the sausage mixed in with the cheese and the chips to dip it in. Our meals were very delicious. My husband got the skirt steak and it was very moist according to how he wanted it cooked. He even let me have a bite of it ;) I got the applewood bacon wrapped meatloaf with rice and mashed potatoes. It was out of my league and I am damn glad I went there. We had leftovers to take home. The dessert was literally the bomb. We split the chocolate cake topped with warm fudge served with a side of rich vanilla ice cream and a juicy strawberry. Oh, so damn great it was! Our server, Monica, was outstanding. She recommended some menu items that was her personal favorites and she didn't rush us at all. It was a busy Saturday night and it didn't keep her from giving us the most undivided attention. We will definitely go back there since we enjoyed it so much the first time. Keep it up! read more

Went to this place after having a not so great experience at a yelp event. Thought I'd give it a second chance. The service this time was superb. My waitress was knowledgeable on the menu and the manager checked on us several times. It was impressive. We started with a round of drinks. For me, the sweet heat. For my mom, the skinny grapefruit. Both were terrible. We didn't even finish them fully. We had the shrimp and avocado appetizer along with the Brussel sprouts. Wow. The BRUSSELS SPROUTS. They were enough of a reason to come back. They were delicious with pieces of pancetta integrated throughout. They had a hint of goat cheese as well (wish there were more). The shrimp was boring and underwhelming. Would not order it again. For our entrees we had the rainbow trout and the ribs with Mac and cheese and cole slaw. The rainbow trout had no seasoning. It was bland. My mom described it as "being caught, cooked, and put on a plate." Nothing special. The ribs were VERY good and tender. Mac and cheese was.. okay. It was more of a creamy alfredo sauce than a CHEESE sauce. Finally, the most upsetting part. For dessert we had the blueberry cake with "ricotta" topping. I ate it and gagged. It had a savory taste, like something you'd spread on a bagel. It tastes of onion or chive. It certainly didn't have vanilla or powdered sugar as they described. I told my waitress, and what upset me was that she argued with me over it. I suggested that perhaps it was an error in the kitchen and that they scooped sour cream instead of ricotta, or perhaps the ricotta went sour, but she was firm that the cream was as it was intended to taste. Honestly if they intended it to taste that was, it's way more concerning to me. My palate can differentiate savory with sweet and I was offended that I was being challenged. To end on a positive note, my second drink was delicious (the pear lychee spritz) although the only thing lychee about it is the garnish. It was lovely. Would I go back? So, I've been threatening to write a review of Burt & Max's for a few months, and today is the day to do so. Bottom line, I really like their food. A lot. Their servers, are generally, quite professional, smiles, and attentive. There have been a few exceptions at busy lunchtime, but they are exceptions, and I attribute that to their being overwhelmed by the diners who want to share stuff or drink water with lemon and sweeter, instead of ordering drinks. This location is very busy. Inside and outside. Active open air bar. Lots of TV's. Get's jammed at lunch. And dinner. Dinner starts early, starts to fill up at 5. Lots of snowbirds come here. Lots of big parties. Don't expect to be seated if all your group is not present. They are strict about that, very strict. Lots of business people at lunch, Deals at lunch at $10, good deals. Parking can be a challenge if you don't want to pay valet, or park further away (lots of parking near the Public in Delray Marketplace). Large salads. Sandwiches. Love the appetizers. Especially the Lettuce Chicken. Great broiled fish (at night only). Yummy veggies. Leave off all of the sauces for a healthier meal. Huge burgers, great fries, tasty homemade soups. Frequently refilled iced tea. So, if you're in the West Delray Beach area [Delray Marketplace] and are looking for wholesome food, well priced, good servers, and attentive management staff, come here. Only negative point is an issue with some of the hostesses. Frankly, some are in la-la land. I've been there a few times, later at night, when the restaurant was almost empty, and the hostess walks us all the way to the back of the restaurant, and wants to seat us at a table almost on top of a serving station. Duh, I say "Sorry, but that is not acceptable table, it's on top of the serving station", and on two occasions, each looks at me like I'm annoying them, and says "that's the next table to be seated", to which I reply "seat someone else there, I'll show you where I want to sit, and if that is a problem, get the manager". It hasn't affected my rating, but hopefully someone in management will read this, and re-train the hostess crew to use some COMMON SENSE. And they have a frequent diner program where you receive dollar value credit. It's a good deal, just don't forget to bring your card, like I've done a bunch of times. read more

I ate Thanksgiving dinner at Burt & Max's and it was just awful. I have been telling everyone how great the food is there but I realize everyone in my area was right. The food was just awful. Tasted like it was made by a Carribean taco stand chef. There was so much spice and herbs on everything I got sick in the middle of the night. I told the waiter (who was charming and sweet) that I could not eat pepper and spices and was told to get the fish dish. I said send me the one without spices and pepper and they sent over a dish that was filled with junk spices. The sweet potatoes tasted like they were doused in more spices and herbs. And, they had no bread except corn bread that was fried or doused in Oil and spices. This was the WORST Thanksgiving Dinner I have ever had. My friends ordered the turkey - that I could not eat because it was so spicy - and one of them had heartburn all night. I got so sick. The Squash soup was awful, just awful. So much spice and herbs it had no semblance to what we always ate at the other restaurants around town. I do not know what is happening here but they are obviously hiring chefs who learned to cook on an open stove on the street. I would not go there unless you have an iron stomach and like food that tastes like it has been doused in whatever leftover spice is in the cabinet. You can't taste the food, only the herbs and other junk they put on it. Good food does not have to be disguised. I am shocked that the owner would allow terrible food like this to be served to discerning consumers who live in the area. I have written restaurant reviews in both NYC and Florida and have never tasted such awful food. Just awful. read more

Diane and I recently visited Burt & Max's restaurant for a nice Happy Hour! They offered an impressive array of food and beverages at very good prices. We split the scrumptious Cheeseburger Sliders and the tasty Spinach Dip. The food went quite well with the Coor's Light that I had. Our server, Taryn, was extremely efficient and friendly. She described many menu items that we were interested in. She helped us immensely as we chose our food selections. After going to the Yelp event at Burt and Max's I wanted to go back. They have daily Happy Hour from 11:30 am to 6:30 pm at the bar. Clyde and I were in the neighborhood and decided to go. We got there about 5:30 pm. The bar was over half full. We sat at a high top table next to the bar. Our server was very nice and helpful. I remembered her from the Yelp event. She was one of the servers. I asked her questions about the Happy Hour food and drinks. She described the food and helped us decide what to order. She checked on us several times. I ordered a cocktail called a Grapefruit Skinny- vodka, grapefruit juice, agave nectar, and club soda. It was very good and refreshing. I'd order it again. Clyde got a beer. For food we shared the ultimate cheeseburger sliders and spinach dip which came with crispy tortilla chips. Our server brought a basket of cornbread and butter. That was a nice surprise. Everything was delicious. I'm sure we'll be back. Next time we'll try lunch or dinner. read more

This is on my bookmarked list for a long time. As I had seen my fellow yelpers yelping away on how much they enjoyed coming here. So the opportunity arose as we were looking at a great place to eat for brunch. Also I wanted to go to Delray as well it is closer to where my Yelp BFF lives. She made reservations and we both arrived promptly at 11 AM on Sunday. The parking was plentiful directly in front of the restaurant. Once inside we got a great table with plenty of room. Our waiter rocked, hands down the best of the best. He quickly got us drinks. The menu I had read online and was looking forward to the beet salad. The beets were perfectly roasted in a nice array of colors red and golden cokored. It was served cold and delicious. Just a hint of slivered almonds really was a nice touch. We were not rushed as we get caught up and talked. No one was waiting or we definitely would have left sooner to make way for other guests. Sorry they don't have a location to the South closer to me. No worries easy enough to get here on the Turnpike. Also there is alot more items I would love to try on their menu. read more

My husband and I were there yesterday for a late lunch with our cute little pup!! We were sitting at an outdoor high top and informed that it was happy hour. My husband ordered a soda and I had a question about wine. We were delivered his soda and water for myself, then I placed an order for a glass of wine. After a long wait, no wine, and no one to take our food order, my husband went inside to speak to the manager to just pay for the soda and leave. The manager, Rebecca, approached us immediately to take our order. She was so apologetic and friendly and easily convinced us to stay!! So glad we did stay! Service was very attentive after that. Rebecca went above and beyond to make us happy and ensure that we had a great experience there! Would go back just based on how Rebecca handled everything! Very professional and friendly! We were there last night with some friends. Greeted right away with a great smile and friendly host. They honored our reservation right away and took us to a nice booth by the bar. The bar has two huge open windows where people can sit and have drinks which is thought was cool. The server came over instantly and offered some cool drinks that were on the menu. I happened to get a bourbon sampler which I have never seen before and it was awesome. You get to try three different horizons in one tasting. The server told us to try their signature onion soup dumplings which were great! We also shared one of there pizzas as an app with truffle mushroom and it was out of this world. I personally had the tuna poke bowl and my friends had meatloaf and chicken and waffles (both looked great), and they all heavily enjoyed their meal. For dessert, we shared a frozen Mississippi mud pie. Being by the bar there was lots of action. We ended up heading to a movie after right in the plaza. Overall 10/10 experience! read more

Wish I could have tried the food but the hostess alone left such a bad taste in my mouth I walked out before getting seated! I was running late so I called to let them know (gave them name and reservation time) they told me they were closing soon but it was ok. When I showed up, the hostess was rolling her eyes as she approached the hostess stand, then told us our reservation was actually a half hour before. She said she "just wanted us to know"... that she's right and I'm not I guess? What happened to customer is always right? Also, Rebecca the manager didn't seem to care at all when she was standing there at the hostess stand alongside Little Miss. Sassy Pants, OR even when called and complained ‍ Max is much better off without Burt. Didn't care for Burton's restaurant either. AMAZING!!! The farmhouse burger tasted as if Jesus Christ blessed it himself before it arrived to my table and don't get me started on the fresh toppings that came on this behemoth, one thing I can say is the crispy onions that come on top of it are to die for, I can eat those by themselves for breakfast lunch and dinner with no need to eat anything else. My tennis team had lunch reservations for the front covered patio. It was set up beautifully! After I parked my car, one of my team members had an accident getting out of my car, and fell face first onto the ground. She was bleeding. The manager came out quickly with ice and helped her get up after a few minutes. The staff showed genuine concern and was attentive to us throughout the lunch. Loving the food at this new restaurant! Must order the Beef Sliders and the Tomato Soup. Both are mouth watering. The Beef Sliders surprised me as I did not expect such a huge portion. All three sliders had a huge amount of beef. The Tomato Soup was pricy at around $6-8 but it was delicious. Best thing I had at the restaurant was that soup. I ordered the Scallops with jasmine rice for my main meal. i thought it was very plain. Everything else was great! You can also sign up for their rewards program and redeem points. Horrible food. We had a terrible experience last year and made the awful decision to go back. I do not understand how they stay open serving such bad food. My entire salmon meal was covered in salt so thick you could see it. My husband's beef tips, were overcooked and not beef tips but more cheap pulled fatty beef.
