Have been to Burton's a few times, but this visit was especially excellent. It was Restaurant Week and they offered special 3-course dinner for $35 in addition to their regular menu. Both my friend and I got the special. We started with winter sangria. We agreed it was most delicious sangria ever and noted the ingredients to try to reproduce. I began with the zucchini rolls - grilled with herbed cheese and zesty tomato sauce. There were 5 rolls and I saved 3 to take home. (They were delicious in the restaurant but STELLAR at home the next day.) My friend had the roasted beet salad which she devoured. For the main course, I had the steak frites. The steak was perfectly prepared rare and the fries yummy with Parmesan. The portion was substantial and I took most of the steak home for cold steak sandwiches. My friend really enjoyed the salmon romesco - and a few of my fries too. For dessert my friend had the chocolate cake which was good but a bit too chocolate-y for me. My dessert was sublime - butterscotch pudding. As if that wasn't yummy enough by itself, it had some sort of crunchy bits - toffee maybe? And whipped cream. I seriously encourage Burton's to add the zucchini, butterscotch pudding, and winter sangria to their regular menu. If they do, I promise to visit once a week! read more

Mediterranean chicken risotto: artichoke, grape tomatoes, spinach, feta, lemon butter sauce, pesto. It was creamy and packed with umami. It was a dish packed with flavors, the creamy risotto balanced with the refreshing grape tomatoes and lemon butter sauce; the pairing made the dish not as heavy as expected. Fish sandwich: fried haddock, house pickles, pickled red onion, tartar sauce, and hand cut fries. The fried haddock was fried just right, juicy, light, and crispy. The pickles, red onion, and tartar sauce paired well with the fried fish. The place was packed and we went with seating at the bar. The bartender was friendly and helpful as my friend asked for his recommendation. He created an original cocktail for my friend to try and it was delicious. Had dinner last night at Burtons - went for happy hour, but instead had dinner because their food is so good! They have the best fish and chips and our amazing waiter, Somer, made sure everything from appetizer to dessert was perfection. Somer made recommendations for our different courses and he was absolutely on point. Wish I would've taken pictures of everything as the presentation was beautiful, but I was caught up in the service and attention we were given at the table and of course, the delicious food. If you haven't tried Burton's, you really need to go. read more

Well...we finally got to Burton's. My husband hesitated when it came to trying them because some entrees had 2 prices listed. We wondered if the cheaper prices were lunchtime prices. It turns out that some entrees come in small and large portions. So, when looking at it from that perspective, we realized that it need not be that expensive to eat there. We were here on a Saturday around 5 p.m. and were surprised at how busy the place was. Plus, a couple of other groups showed up at the same time we did. Still, there were many unoccupied tables so getting seated at that hour wasn't a problem. By the time we left, there were people waiting for tables. Our server, Simona, was very friendly plus quite knowledgeable when it came to the menu. She also was prompt and efficient. It was she who explained the price differences on the menu. We started with drinks. I had a pomegranate martini while my husband had a Devil's Backbone beer. My drink was good---on the tart side but had a sugar rim which offset the tartness. As usual, my husband liked his beer. He started his meal with a small house salad which consists of: "romaine lettuce, iceberg, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, peppers, bleu cheese, applewood smoked bacon". The choice of dressings was either bleu cheese or mustard vinaigrette. He chose bleu cheese. It surprised me that he got this salad as he isn't a fan of bleu cheese. However, he really enjoyed it and said that the bleu cheese didn't overpower the other ingredients. For my main course, I chose "crab crusted haddock" and got the small portion. This dish consists of: "Icelandic haddock, super lump blue crab stuffing, herbed jasmine rice, julienne vegetables, lemon butter rice". I found the small portion to be just right. The haddock was cooked perfectly as it was tender and flaky. The crab wasn't really a "stuffing". Rather, it was mixed with bread crumbs and placed on top of the haddock. I found the crab portion to be generous but it didn't really stick to the haddock. Still, it was tasty. The julienned veggies appeared to be a broccoli slaw. There was a mild but forgettable sauce on the plate and I tasted very little lemon flavor. My husband had the "NY strip" which is described as this: "aged certified angus beef, mashed potatoes, broccoli". It's a 10 oz steak. He found his steak, although properly cooked medium, to be on the tough side. Oddly enough, some parts of the steak were on the tender side. While he enjoyed it, he has had better NY strip. He did like the mashed potatoes as there were made from scratch. Overall, I give the 4 stars. I appreciated the option of getting small portions plus, despite my entree being on the bland side, I did enjoy it. My husband enjoyed his entree despite the few flaws. Service was excellent. We would go here again as we would like to try some different entrees. read more

I've been here many times over the years and the quality of the food is excellent and consistent. However, I've been at the bar a couple of times in the past week and the service is not good. At no time has it been particularly busy but the bartenders seem to be occupied with lots of other things besides paying attention to their customers. From now on I'll stick to the restaurant section (although that wasn't bustling by any means), and hope for better service. read more

We love Burtons for dinner because they are so awesome with allergies and have higher quality food/recipe/chef, so we thought we'd try their new brunch. It was pretty good. I really enjoyed my short rib hash and spiked derby coffee. The monkey bread was ok but not worth giving up their regular bread. Their regular bread is out of this world. I wish I could give 5 stars because this is one of our favorite places. My husband (who usually wants to come here for his birthday for salmon romesco), said he wouldn't come back for brunch because they only seem to do poached eggs. he prefers dry eggs and they wouldn't change the poached eggs on the hash so he got the chicken and waffles but probably just had too high of expectations. I was happy with them poached so it worked for me. The service was pleasant and efficient as always. I know we'll be back for dinner. read more

I've never heard of this chain but it looked good so I took my mom here for Mother's day. We all loved it! We came a bit late for brunch but they still accommodated us and the service was wonderful. The food was extremely tasty, and we shared the Mimosas for 2. We will definitely be back for dinner. read more

We arrived on a Monday about 5PM. It was not crowded at all. The restaurant has a great atmosphere. Vibrant and inviting. Our 19-year-old server was very eager but not up to par. He knew nothing about the wine or food which he readily admitted. We ordered a bottle of wine which was retrieved fairly quickly. He had a terrible time opening the bottle of wine to the point of being awkward. We avoided making eye contact and fiddled around with the silverware. My husband was "this close" to just grabbing the corkscrew and doing it himself. He finally managed to get it done and took our food order. Then he disappeared. Someone else delivered our food. After we were done eating, he came by to see if we needed anything. We had placed the dirty dishes right on the edge of the table, but he didn't pick any of them up. Okay, I get that finding decent help is a struggle these days. What about actually training these people before throwing them into the fire? The service left a very bad impression. Onto other things. The wine list has many choices, and the prices are $36 and up. We had the Rodney Strong Chalk Hill for $44 which is a bit high IMO. For entrees, my spouse ordered the chicken risotto, and I ordered the Caesar salad with 5 grilled shrimp. The chicken risotto was so-so. The chicken was a bit dry and a little grisly - like a chicken tender with that weird tough piece. The risotto was cooked fine but had an overwhelming chicken broth taste. The Caesar salad was typical although over dressed for my tastes (in their defense, you could get the dressing on the side). The shrimp was large but overcooked, so it was rubbery. After requesting our check, we waited and waited. At least 10 minutes or more passed before finally getting the tab. Sigh. Hopefully, they are able to work out the wrinkles. With so much competition in the area, they better. read more

While in the area with my boyfriend, we were looking for a restaurant that still had a little while util closing - it seemed like a lot of the other places in the area were much closer to closing than Burtons Grill (at least that had a menu that appealed to the both of us) we decided to come here as I had been to a Burtons location at home, in CT. Having been to Burtons in years ago at home, I had some idea of what to expect, but knew one thing for sure, I was ordering the Buffalo Chicken Dip for an appetizer. The dip is not overly spicy and there was more than enough to serve two for an appetizer - definitely should've had less as I was getting full on the appetizer alone even after sharing it with my boyfriend. I don't think when I've dined at home I've eaten off the menu. On this visit I decided on the fish tacos which are typically served with french fries but the combination didn't appeal to me. I was easily able to select an alternate side - there wasn't really anything that I would consider a good pair for fish tacos, the closest thing to rice was risotto. The risotto was creamy and actually worked well with the fish tacos. The service was pretty close to top notch! After being seated a waiter came over to get us started as our waitress was tied up - this was so nice and I don't often see this level of care in other restaurants. Our actual waitress was also very attentive but not overly so where you felt you were being bombarded. This visit was a win and I even convinced my boyfriend that we will need to visit Burtons in our area in CT! read more

This restaurant has a great indoor and outdoor seating area. I happened to pass by it on a beautiful spring night (while I was dining at the neighboring restaurant), and saw people enjoying their dinner outside. We decided to go eat here the very next day, as I was really impressed to see a separate Vegetarian menu. Here is what I ordered: - General Tso'S Cauliflower: DELICIOUS!! This is so flavorful, and I loved the sauce it comes with. Definitely a must have. - Quinoa Bowl: AMAZING!!! This bowl is so healthy and delish. Most of the times, the quinoa bowls are bland, and not as filling. This one has cranberries, walnuts, veggies, all mixed together with a delicious dressing. I absolutely loved the quinoa bowl, and cannot wait to go back and eat it again. - Rosemary Fries: This is ok....have definitely had better fries. Wish it was more flavorful and spicy. My husband had the salmon and absolutely loved it. I am looking forward to trying their other vegetarian items on the menu. Burton's sadly has fallen off both in food and service quality since pre-pandemic. It was a large party split between kids and adults and kids were served about 45 minutes before the adults, leaving them bored while the grown-ups were still waiting for food. Appreciate their flexibility with such a large party but there was plenty of warning and they could have been better prepared. Ambiance was good and when asked they did bring out menus for the kids to color on. read more

We have been here twice. Both times were during COVID. Each time I felt safe with the staff and being spread out from other tables. They also have outside seating which is super nice! We normally love this restaurant in Sterling, but lately the meals have been very salty. I had the Maryland crab soup and it was a salt bomb. I kept drinking water all night. Also had the Salmon Romesco, which is one of my favorites. It was so salty. I hope you can modify the recipes and use less salt. Definitely the food was better pre-pandemic. Our family use to go almost every week. The service is usually really good, but I had to ask for water and our waiter forgot to get the drinks. He took long breaks in between and I had to ask another waiter. Unfortunately we will not be returning to Burtons for awhile. Very sad. read more

Full disclosure, we haven't been here physically since February 2020, pre covid. But we used to come here a few times a month for Happy Hour and have apps and drinks. The bartenders were almost always friendly and attentive. The food and drink are always fantastic. We'd also bring our parents here because they have strange dietary restrictions and Burton's never blinked an eye at accommodating them without question. We have done takeout since the pandemic started, but sadly not as often as our pre pandemic visits. Great place. Great ambiance. Great staff. Great food. I really like the ambience in this restaurant. It is so cozy and dimly lit and the booths are very comfortable. I tried the firecracker shrimp appetizer which was really yummy and had a little bit of spice with it. However I was not a huge fan of the coleslaw that came with it. I also tried the crabcakes which were really good and not full of a ton of filler. They were fresh. I got them with sweet potato fries and those were delicious! I have nothing bad to say about Burtons. Though they've been open for some time, I haven't had a chance to try them out! I'm definitely a fan. The starter fried calamari was crispy and tender. I also like that it's unique--combining sweet peppers and tartar sauce. Not your usual dipping combo, and it makes a nice sweet and tangy layer to the already delicious calamari. I went with the Mediterranean Chicken Risotto and it was as filling as I thought it would be. Filling not with empty calories, mind you, but with a packful of flavors that continues to linger. Again, similar to the calamari, there is a balance of sweet, savory, and tangy. It's the perfect formula for an umami! The spinach in the mix made the dish tasted healthier and gave it a nice "break" from its hearty-ness. I was very happy with my dish. Service was great, our server was very prompt and friendly. Space is GORGEOUS. Nice an open windows, letting lots of natural sunlight (and makes for great food photography lighting). Located right in the Cascades Overlook Center in Sterling, you wouldn't be able to miss this restaurant at all! P.S. They also have a gluten-free menu which is a win for many! However, I wouldn't say that this is a completely gluten-free restaurant. read more

We put in wrong directions (thought we going to another place) when finding a place to eat for lunch. I am so happy we did! This was a real jewel! Our server was so sweet and helpful. We have been here many times over the years, and it was always good food and good service so when family came to town for a funeral we had no reservations about taking them there. Well I have to say it was a mistake and I was actually embarrassed that we took them here. From the very beginning there were issues. First we ordered one beer and one Paloma, and those drinks took 15 min to be brought to the table. And the restaurant was not busy by any means. The others ordered only coke and it took even longer! The appetizer was delivered before the cokes. We finished the appetizer, which by the way was NOT at all how it was presented all the other times I had it. We ordered the general tsos cauliflower which is usually very good, but this time the sauce wasn't on the cauliflower it was under it on the plate and there were no green onions. Next the waitress never came by to ask if we wanted to place our dinner order we had to flag her down, and it was well after we had finished our appetizer. The next issue was my dish arrived with the dressing on it even though I had requested it to be on the side. So my dish went back. The others wanted to wait for my food which was only vegetables over rice and quinoa. It took about 15 min | for my food to arrive! Next up was our guest from out of town ate a few bites of her food and then realized they sent out the wrong dish! She ordered chicken piccata and they sent out some Tuscan chicken dish. What's worse is when I was finally able to get the waitress' attention she literally said "yea I noticed that like 30 min ago I'm sorry about that."WHAT? You knew this but you didn't even bother to come to us about the error? Everything took and extraordinary long amount of time to be brought to the table, the waitress was non existent for the most part and took a ridiculous amount of time to come to our table for every single thing. The final straw was I even had to flag her down (when I finally even saw her to be able to) after waiting 30 min after we had finished eating to ask for the check! I'm not sure what is going on there, but things have changed and not for the better. read more
