Was on a trip with a friend from New Zealand, so we had to stop, especially when she read that they had sausage rolls and meat pies! She grabbed a bunch of stuff, but I also got a sausage roll ($6.50), a steak and mushroom pie ($9), and three desserts: a berry galette ($4.95), a raspberry Lambington ($4.95), and a Louise Slice ($4.25). Everything was delicious and the desserts were not too sweet. The berry galette had a flaky crust with fresh berries and the Lambington was light and fluffy with a great raspberry filling and slightly sweetened whipped cream and then covered with coconut. The Louise Slice was like a shortbread crust with some kind of fruit filling (fig?) and coconut covering the whole thing. The sausage roll was quite large and the meat pie was about 4"; both reheated nicely and had good flavor. I asked my friend about the authenticity and she confirmed that everything tasted as they should, so she was quite happy. Let me just say I love Burtons and have been going their since they opened here in Windsor. Great food. Prices have gone up a lot over a few years but I assume that is expected so its more of a rare treat for us lately. What makes this review hard is service has always been average. The people that wait on you are just ...well ok. One time a customer in front of me order some dinner rolls in advanced a few days prior. They never made any of her dinner rolls and they just said "sorry we forgot about your order." I would have assumed they would have done something to help her but nothing. She went away not happy and I felt really bad for her. Sometimes some of the people in the back just seem irritated to be their but we ignore them and enjoy what we have. So if you are not ordering dinner rolls in advance, stop by and just get a meat pie, they are amazing. Steak and Potato are my sons favorite - get the ketchup to go along with that pie and you will not regret it. The sausage rolls are super good. One person told me they tasted just like their mother made them from New Zealand. Bacon and Egg pie are excellent also, great for a quick breakfast. Get sliced bread to go and just eat it "as is" in the car. My wife loves a espresso so she doesn't like going here as often since they only serve drip coffee. Tried a few different items and they were all really good. The southwest hand pie was good but had an interesting taste for sure, the sweet potatoes inside were a good touch. Its been almost 2 years since we have been to NZ and one thing we miss most was the meat pies... tried and tried to duplicate but I am no baker. After tons of research I found a bakery 3 hours away that makes meat pies. So today was the day and my mouth watered the entire way up. My husband and I stopped in after a hike at Foothill. I was intrigued after reading on Yelp, that they were the only New Zealand bakery and they feature is hand held meat, or veggie pies! We got a loaf of sourdough bread, two warm pies, and two cold to take home . They provided great instructions to heat and eat! They pies are really tasty, we got the chicken, a steak and mushroom warm. The mushroom and goat cheese, and beef and cheese cold for later. They were all very tasty. Man oh man this place is so good! Their pastries really hit the spot. Seriously some of the best pastries around at a reasonable price. The line can be a little long sometimes (especially during covid restrictions) but the wait isn't too bad and it is worth it. You can sit outside after buy big your pastry and sit outside and enjoy a cup of joe or whatever your liquid poison of choice may be. Staff is super friendly and help you with recommendations if you can't make up your mind or are just unfamiliar with the pastries they provide. This is a great New Zealand bakery shop with lots to offer from authentic pastries to coffee. First off, I'd like to thank my sister and bro in law for the rec. They told me to try the New Zealand meat pie in which I did. My wife and I tried their meat pie which had minced meat and cheese. Let me tell you something, this here is delicious on all levels. It reminds of a hot pocket or even a Philly cheesesteak inside a puff pastry. The texture is great with the blend of both the meat and cheese. This is definitely one of my favorite morning bites. The price of the pie is $8 which is a bit pricey I'd say but still worth the try. If you're in the area, please try this meat pie because they're hard to find and there's nothing like it. read more

The sausage rolls here are unparalleled. We ordered one, stepped outside to eat it, and immediately went back in to order a second. It was truly that good. The sausage is well seasoned and flavored, and the pastry doesn't get too greasy or heavy. We also had the Anzac biscuit which was amazing - coconutty and delicious. I like the bakery a lot but constantly met with disappointment. The card reader always has issues which cause long delays or trips to Safeway for cash. And they are ALWAYS out of the goods stuff. Not all of us can get there at 7am. I work mornings. I've been trying to get a loaf of olive bread for two years and a ham and cheese croissant for months. Its frustrating. Finally, the way the card system is set up you are guilted into a tip. I usually tip very well but this is uncomfortable. I keep telling myself they won't have what I want but I keep trying. Just need to let it go for good and realize not every business is meant for everyone. read more

We have ordered from BurtoNZ for years to gift their baked goods to local businesses and family throughout the Bay Area and beyond. I have nothing but positive things to say about this bakery. Every order has been fulfilled accurately and with totally fresh items. The staff are helpful and polite. Their breads including loaves, rolls and more quite literally thrill everyone we've gifted them to. If you are looking for a unique gift I would strongly recommend patronizing this place. They are always working incredibly hard, clearly very passionate about creating the highest quality breads. On one occasion, I gave a simple fresh baguette to a family member and he ate it all in one sitting, it was that tasty to him, he couldn't stop! The staff will also happily slice up any fresh loaf for you. Plus, the ingredients seem a lot more wholesome and simple than store-bought breads. I'm sure that's why they're not only tastier but also healthier in the long run if you're seeking, say, sandwich bread for your family. It's been a year plus since stopping by here. Had the mince and steak and potatoes meat pie. The steak and potatoes were dangerously delicious. Also bought the strawberry and chocolate little cream filled desserts and had the cream filled donut which was heavenly. Also tried the sausage meat pie. Took everything cold and followed the directions of warming them up the meat pies for 30 minutes. Other than trying to stay healthy I will be back when I'm in the area. read more

Nice lil Bakery to the side of Safeway. I had never noticed it in the two years I've lived up here. I'm always down to try bakeries (sweets are too hard to pass up), so I decided to stop in. It's a cute lil place, with a variety of items. The have the usual suspects of cupcakes and pie. But they also have meat pie, which I eyed suspiciously. I might try them on next visit (other reviewers said them be tasty). I got a apple slice (pie slice) and two double chocolate biscotti. Both were tasty, although I like the biscotti a lot, not too sweet, not super crunchy (where you destroy your mouth). Plus there were chocolate chunks in it, mmmm. This family owned bakery is sooo delicious! I love the mini meat pies. I took a friend there and she said "It's like life changing deliciousness". I stopped by for the first time on Thanksgiving Eve. Place was hopping but the young girl that helped me was super nice. I just wanted some sour dough bread which I got and it was delicious.
