Yum, yum, YUM! Busters is amazing! This Nordeaster ventured to South MPLS for my grandma's birthday, and ordered apps & dinner. The chips & dip were awesome. Not at all greasy. The onion rings were the best I've had in years! They're HUGE! The walleye Rachel sandwich was absolutely divine! Huge pieces of fish, cheese, slaw, sauce, all on amazing bread. Zero complaints. The walleye sandwich was on diners drive ins and dives, although well prepared I didn't like it. As far as I'm concerned walleye as a fish can be extinct or the entire population gone toxic so it can no longer be served as a meal publicly. My family got the burgers and were delighted, we had wings the cheese curds and they were delicious. The French fries were done well, we'll be back. read more

My wife watches Diners, Drive-ins and Dives religiously.One night it was requested that we spend time together and she insisted on us watching this together.I was surprised that Minneapolis has had a lot of restaurants featured on it considering its population size. On this particular episode,the chef was making a steak sandwich and homemade potato chips.I decided to go with the steak sandwich.It was really good! I can't say it was great.It was juicy and made to order which is a plus.The homemade chips were fantastic and I could eat a bucket of these chips.They had a huge selection of beer and mixed drinks,however I'm not in to spirits anymore. Stopped here for dinner while visiting. He said we would not be disappointed and we were not! Great selection of beer and even better appetizers. We got the pretzels and onion rings. I'm normally not a fan of onion rings but they were perfect. Our sandwiches were great and the fries were as well. Buster's on 28th was on my list after watching an episode of Diner's Drive In and Dives on the Food Channel. The atmosphere was very relaxed and on a Sunday night was full of locals, which was nice. We had great service with some recommendations on what kind of beer to try. We started with an order of the Hot Potato Chips, as were featured on the show. We loved them! For dinner, my husband had the Barbecue Beef Brisket sandwich which he says was amazing! My daughter and I split a Buster's Burger which was equally as amazing. There are lots of options to choose from and we will definitely come back and try new things next time! read more

Another DDD checked off the list. Overall I thought the food and atmosphere were good but not great. The entrance area is super tiny so not much room to stand if you have to wait for a table which is a little awkward. The beer list was impressive and I got to order my first pumpkin beer of the season, big props for having that on tap. We ordered the hot chips and onion dip for an appetizer. This was probably my favorite part of the dinner. The homemade potato chips were crispy, salty, and giant enough to dip in the creamy, smooth French onion dip. It didn't have chunks of onions like the store bought stuff and probably could have been used as a spread on a sandwich. I also ordered the beer braised beef sandwich. The beer braised beef had so much juices that it made the bun incredibly soggy and I couldn't even pick up the sandwich so I had to ditch the bread and just eat the meat. The cream cheese on top was a little odd to pair with beef but it didn't deter me from devouring the meat. I picked sweet potatoes fries as my side, they were mediocre. Some were crunchy but most were soft and probably need a little more salt. read more

My husband and I were casually watching DD&D one day (because who really does set up a time to sit down and catch an episode) and were surprised that a place in our hood (ish) was featured that we had never heard of before. Several months down the road, needing a place to eat for a dinner date night we decided to bike our way here. The ambience is definitely that of a small, neighbourhood bar. Dark and narrow interior, with a small outdoor patio that we were promptly seated at by a friendly host. Our server's attitude, on the other hand, obviously turned sour immediately when we asked only for waters instead of drinks. I shouldn't have to make excuses, but it was a weekday, we budgeted our money for the food and just didn't feel the need for alcohol to enjoy each other's company. Hardly a reason for such judgement. It was Father's Day and it was my Dads choice on where we got to eat. He suggested Busters and said it was on the food channel. Him and my mom had tried it without me, (I was bummed) but I finally got my opportunity to check it out! Buster's is a cute neighborhood bar with a small patio out front, with a long and skinny interior. I loved how cozy it felt inside. The menu is full of intriguing items, and the buns are made fresh from the bakery right next door. As for food, my Dad recommended the steak sandwich with caramelized onions and creamy blue cheese. (This is what was feature on TV). It sounded fantastic, but I HAD to get the bison burger. It was so juicy, and topped with thick and crispy jalapeno bacon and CREAM CHEESE! I also had the side of sweet potato fries and a side of the homemade blue cheese. It was fantastic. It was so good, that I didn't even order a beer because I wanted to be able to eat my entire burger. For dessert we split the Chocolate Cake. It was made fresh from a local bakery and it was massive!! I will definitely be back and cannot wait to get the specialty chips everyone raves about form my own. Bookmark this place ASAP! read more

Well stopped here for lunch and despite the great menu I chose a burger, one of the best decisions in a while! Very, very good burger! I had wanted to try this place for a while and this was good timing. Very good beer menu and really good service. Ive been trying to eat healthy so a burger is usually not the best choice but I figure I won't eat the bun so lots of good protein. Now the only problem with this was that this was one of the best buns I've ever had! Local bakery next door! I ordered the bison burger wanting something a little leaner and ordered it medium. The burger was super juicy with jalapeños bacon (yum) and a cheese sauce which was awesome! I have to say I ate every bite of it and it was well worth it. I finally got to busters for the first time. We came for the Friday fish fry. The place was packed and the service was great... The food issues were obvious. The oil used for the fish, fries and onion rings was not hot enough. Everything was soft not crisp or crunchy. Now to be fair the place was really busy we could easily see the food coming out of the kitchen at a fast rate. Busters- probably over crowding your fryers?? I think most people are willing to wait for there food to be cooked correctly. This was our first visit and in fairness we will come back to try again. The other day I ate at Buster's for the first time since they reopened after a fire nearly destroyed the place. Not too long ago I revisited The Nook after it had been devastated by a blaze. Let's hope there's not a third outstanding Twin Cities burger joint due for a conflagration!! Two is two too many. I was here with a brother-in-law. He had a basic Buster's Burger ($12) and i went with the Steak Sandwich (Thinly-sliced top sirloin, crispy bacon, caramelized onions, creamy blue cheese, and house made potato chips on a butter-toasted bun - $15). I asked for medium rare and that's exactly what I got. This a great sandwich. Would be an outstanding value for $12.50 but I certainly didn't feel ripped off. For my side, I went with their take on cole slaw that included Julienned apples, kale, cabbage and a tart creamy dressing. We split an order of excellent onion rings. Light, crispy, flaky coating around huge rings of sweet, moist onion served with ramekins of ketchup, BBQ sauce and dijon mustard for dipping. Plenty of booths along the left-hand side, high-tops down the middle and the bar/kitchen on your right as you enter. Brand new, spotless bathroom. Friendly, efficient service. Water glasses promptly refilled. Just a great neighborhood spot. read more

I came in for a quick stop to see the menu, and someone who works there had very off-putting attitude. She walked over to the menu section/ wait to be seated section, didn't make eye contact or acknowledge me whatsoever (just like a basic human being, not like a greeting), tapped on the screen (which is how I assumed that she works there), and when she walked back to where she was she bumped into me, and didn't say anything as though I didn't exist. I'm not willing to rule out subverted racism, but I also notice when employees act like that they don't have respect for some kind of aspect about the job - on duty or off duty. I don't know what that person is going through, but first impressions still matter. There's no real excuse for acting like a person isn't there, in general. That speaks on the employees and the clientele. read more

Onion rings nice size , pretty crispy. we also ordered the fresh cut potato chips snd dip ( wish we had more ) so delicious but not a huge quantity in the basket . Good service, nice high glass partitions between the booths which I like . And offers outdoor seating if you're inclined. Parking can get a little rough but to be expected on busy street . I love love love busters!!!! I tend to eat on the healthy side and mostly cook at home, but this is where I go when I want to really splurge! That said, their healthy options (salads, non fried stuff) are great too. They have a fabulous beer and wine selection and great service. I can't say enough good things about this place. We stopped into Buster's with a friend and found it to be a nice little neighborhood bar. It's decked out in dark wood and has a nice long bar - very comfortable place to hang out. The food was good. We had the pretzel appetizer, which was tasty but nothing crazy exceptional. I had the cheeseburger and fries, which again, was a very good burger and fries but nothing special. The beer list was a lot of fun to explore - we appreciated the diversity. We were disappointed that for some reason it seemed like every beer we ordered was either just tapped out or in some cases tapped in the middle of serving. I think we just had bad timing. I presume this is not a chronic issue. I did appreciate that they do the thing on the menu where they tell you what's up next on tap. Buster's was a really nice little place to stop for a bite and a good beer. read more

I like my food like I like my women (think what you will when you see me devouring a huge burger) and that is with personality and alittle kick in the pants. The Buster Burger was like the hottest girl in the room (really, see the attached pic) unfortunately it wasn't all there on the inside. Perhaps due to the large size of the burger, the patty itself lacked some flavor, especially when compared to the burgers from the Blue Door Pub or The Nook which deliver abit more kick through seasoning and/or more flavorful cheese. Buster's on 28th tried to fill this flavor gap by including some onions on the inside of the beef patty but it didn't do it for me. The bun was toasted and had a nice crunch and the fries were well done and crisp. Not quite perfect but I still enjoyed the meal nonetheless. Buster's itself reminds me of a smaller version of the Bulldog NE, classy and laid back with a good beer selection. Definitely a place you could take a date to or hang out with the guys. Nearby is the superb Angry Catfish coffee (and bikeshop) and the phenomenal Bakers Wife bakery (other great stops should you be looking to extend a date going exceedingly well). Above average food, wonderful bar and atmosphere, great neighborhood. I'll definitely be back, but I think I'll be trying the Bison Burger next time. read more

Buster's is pretty much the epitome of what a neighborhood pub should be; cozy, laid-back, unpretentious and backed by solid food and a strong tap list. While Buster's tap list isn't going to rival other Twin Cities establishments in sheer quantity, the thirty or so taps they have are always well curated and strike a nice balance of both local and US/international beers. They also have a beer engine for the rotating firkin and always have one beer designated for permanent happy hour pricing. Their menu consists of primarily apps, burgers, sandwiches and pizzas, though they generally executed at a level that far exceeds typical bar fare. The burgers are probably the most popular and consistent choices and I certainly have no complaints about the lamb and bison burgers I have ordered over the years. Buster's take on the Cubano sandwich isn't a bad rendition either. The only minor quibbles I have are the lack of bar seating and the general congestion normally experienced here - it's a popular place with the locals and finding a seat generally requires some patience during peak hours. But, it's popular for reasons I appreciate, so I'm not going to complain. read more

I love this place. It is cozy and friendly. A good neighborhood joint with a fantastic beer list and really good food. I haven't strayed from the burger options yet, but I have tried the beef, bison and lamb versions and they are all great. The bf has had the Walleye Rachel and said that was pretty tasty too. I may branch out into the section of the menu next time. For our veggie friends, they have a delicious sounding veggie burger made out of wild rice and butternut squash. I was very close to ordering it last night, but the smell of meat was too tempting. Lamb wins! I like that they have 99 bottles and a full page of draft options. I always find a new one that I want to try. It is cool that they choose a beer that is always on happy hour pricing while it is the featured special. I have never had a problem with slow service. The servers have always been attentive and the kitchen has been pretty quick when I have been there. read more

I love Buster's. They have a vast beer list with 100+ selections to choose from. They do not serve liquor but do try to accommodate by making cocktails with Sake and other wines. They have amazingly good food. EVERYTHING is made from scratch - even the ketchup. They get their bread from "A Baker's Wife" right next door which was enough to get me in the door to try a burger. I've been her a number of times and I've never been disappointed with either the food or the service. I've tried the multiple items on the menu and they all exceeded my expectations. Who doesn't love the idea of stringy, tender, beer braised beef on a fresh baked bun slathered with a chipotle cream cheese with an order of russet fries and an ice cold beer to wash it all down. The service is good, the food is great, and the beer selection is out of this world. Try Buster's on 28th out next time you can't figure out where to go - it's a first trip that will most likely turn into a regular stop. read more

If you are looking for just about the best house made chips in the Twin Cities then this is your place. Only maybe ask them to let you salt your own. The chips were a wonderfully nutty brown and crisp and crunchy. These are enormous, cut the length of the potato, with the skin on and just the right thickness. About half of the chips had no salt and the other half were way over salted. So, I would have preferred to do my own salting. If you like your burgers on the greasy side, then this is your place. For me, though well cooked and seasoned, the burger was just a bit too greasy. They did get the medium rare cook that I requested just perfect. The Lake Sauce is just garlic aioli by another name. It was just the right level of garlic. My dining companion ordered his burger medium well. His burger was still very pink inside. Although he refused to ask for it to be recooked, he only took a bit or so out of it. Most wait staff would normally ask if there was something wrong with the food when they see so little eaten. Unfortunately not ours. Finally on a hot day, you run out of iced-tea? Seriously? That was a bit of a disappointment. There are many of us who don't drink soda and would like something more than water. If we're in the neighborhood, I might try them again for a different entree, but I won't go out of my way to make it back. read more

My hubby found this place on instagram. They posted a picture of the homemade potato chips and he said we have to go. Now! We walked in on a Sunday night no wait which is always a treat. Of course we ordered the chips which were amazing! But you have to stop yourself from eating the whole plate so you don't ruin your dinner. I then had the bison burger which was as good as any bison burger in town. Not OMG amazing but good. Next time I would try a different burger. My hubby said his burger was good. We didn't have dessert but next time. Our waiter Dan was great. Very helpful in our food selections, very personable with a great sense of humor. He seemed to really enjoy working there. At one point I thought..maybe he is the owner. We have a new stop and we are thrilled! Not sure why we didn't know about it before. Quick update...had the Birdie sandwich last night.
