A late Sunday night, couldn't figure out what to eat.. stumbled across this place! They had ran out of a lot of things but got a chance to try a bunch of the items. Came back with a bigger group a week or two later. Smoked and Fried Wings - They are spicy, it's a good amount of heat and flavor but didn't really stand out too much. A bit pricey for what it is. =T Half-Baked Mac & Cheese - This may historically be the most well distributed bacon dish ever. Every mouthful is just filled with bacon, bacon for days. Really good. Chili Cheese Fries & Nachos - They're basically the same thing except one is on fries and the other is on nachos. Tasty for a crowd pleaser. I can't speak to the sandwiches because I usually order by the pound. Double Smoked Beef Burnt Ends - I either had it on an off day or just maybe i'm not as blown away as everyone else. They're good but I was expecting something different. Smoked Beef Brisket - Very lean brisket, the crust is very flavorful. I likey. Smoked Pulled Pork - Not a fan of pulled pork but this was excellent Very balanced flavor and very mmm. Smoked Pork Belly - Think Korean BBQ pork belly but saltier and cut in smaller pieces. Easier to snack on. Grilled Sausage - The hot sausage is pretty good, kind of like an Italian sausage but shorter and thicker. Yeah, you get the idea. I'll just stop. Now for sides, I've tried a lot but I'll just put my favorites down below. The sides might actually be the stars for me. =X Bacon and Onion Sauteed String Beans - Exactly what it sounds like. Just scrumptiously good string beans. Potato Salad - Yeah, I know it's just potato salad but wow. They didn't reinvent the wheel here but that's damn good potato salad. Actually, yes.. that's my favorite thing on the menu. Cornbread with Honey Butter - I don't even like cornbread at all. I tell Boston Market to keep it when I eat there. Here, buttery deliciousness. A nice place to check out if you're in the area. Convenient to satisfy your BBQ cravings without going all the way into Manhattan. Food was good if only they had what we were looking for. We got here at 830 waited over an hour to be seated because the lady at the front crosses our name out. So as my GF knows all too well, I hate crowds and looking on Google reviews and busy times we both wanted to go to Butcher Bar so many times in the past but always woke up too late on the weekend or just couldn't find the time during the week. This week we both got lucky... I had finished work early and she was off....off to the butcher bar at 430pm... Perfect!! As soon as we walked in the place was mainly empty (trust me it's never like this we just happen to pick a sweet spot time to eat) the staff was really welcoming and the bar was a little warm for a 90 degree day but aaahhh who cares they have cold beer. As soon as we sat down we ordered our drinks, for me a Narragansett Lager and my GF a Cider Old Fashion... yeah I didn't know they make this combo. We both like to sit at the bar when possible...who knows best about the food than the bartender? She recommended a beef platter to share but we went with the Cubano Sandwich for her and Gimme the Beef platter for me. Sides were bacon beans and Mac and cheese. Reading the reviews before going I knew we were in for a treat. The Cubano Sandwich was delicious, the sandwich bread crispy and the meat and cheese all at perfect temps. The corn bread that comes with both meals is very good, I've had better but I'm not there for the corn bread. My platter was excellent, both meals were cooked just right, the dipping sauces are a nice touch...Beware of the Habanero sauce, not for the weak! Our sides were a mix, the bacon beans were outstanding and the Mac and cheese was good but I've had better, once again not there for the Mac and cheese. Some good stuff and some areas for improvement at the Butcher Bar. On the high notes, very friendly service and great vibe in the place. Waitress was great and owner or manager came over and asked how things were. We got some free apple cake too. Nice selection of sodas (but no beer/wine). The corn muffins were very good too, with some delicious honey butter. The case with the meat in it looked great and there was an outside seating area. So far so good. However, had dinner there with two other friends and none of us was that impressed. One guy got chicken and sweet potatoes and he didn't finish the sweet potatoes and said the chicken was just fine. I had the "Gimme the Beef" with brisket and burnt ends. The burnt ends were okay but not as awesome as the waitress made them out to be and the brisket was super dry. Before I even ate it, my friends looked at it and said "that looks dry". It wasn't tough but it was dry and didn't have the flavor that a nice fatty brisket usually has. Barbecue sauces helped. My other buddy had the pork plate and he said it was just okay...he'd had better in the neighborhood. Living so close by and failing to come here sooner is absolutely my fault. Guac and Chips: Disappointing app choice, I was craving fresh made tortilla chips, but instead got a large plate of some that tasted straight out of a bag. The guac dip was smooth and excellent though. Wifey and I shared the "Gimme the Beef Platter" --BURNT ENDS - You haven't lived as a carnivore until you've tried some of this. Absolutely a MUST HAVE during a first time visit. --BRISKET - First tried this on a bun at Astoria's weekly Sunday Flea Market and was hooked right away. Incredibly tender and combined with their house sweet and spicy BBQ sauce...just pure meat heaven. --Applewood Bacon Baked Beans - Probably the most surprising item of the night since it wouldn't be my usual go order. Very happy with this choice. --Mac and Cheese - Wifey wanted this and I thought it was just okay. Not a bad choice or taste, just not too memorable compared to the baked beans above. Justin Y. suggested a trek to Butcher Bar, and I eagerly agreed, curious to see if anything could possibly surpass Williamsburg's Briskettown (Delaney's BBQ). I had gone to rival Fette Sau the week prior, and I had been greatly disappointed. Butcher Bar looked promising - a chill ambiance enhanced by the leather pin-tucked couches, the spacious layout and the relatively low noise level, perfect for conversation. We had made a reservation for 6:30 PM on a Thursday night, but it was utterly unnecessary. The space did fill up a bit throughout our stay, but it never got too crowded that there would be a wait. Prices looked reasonable, though we realized that the combination platters were totally not worth it. Either the corn pancakes and coleslaw were really good, or you'd have to get the most expensive sides. We opted to just split 1/2 lb of double burnt ends and 1/4 lb each of the pulled pork, beef brisket and pulled BBQ chicken, a side of corn bread & baked beans. (We had substituted chicken for the pork belly, which they were already out of). Double burnt ends: 4.5 stars. Smoky, well-flavored and just barely moist enough, these were by far my favorite food item of the evening. Adding sauce would be an insult to the flavor of the meat, coaxed out gently by mysterious means. I wish we didn't order anything else because I definitely could've enjoyed a dinner of just this. Beef brisket: 2.5 stars. Sadly below mediocre; I usually adore beef brisket. These bordering-on-dry slabs of beef were rather bland and uninteresting. Not bad at all, but I've had far better. Enough that this was noticeably disappointing. Pulled pork: 3 stars. Decent because of the sauce. The pulled chicken sadly didn't even the sauce and was pretty bland in comparison. I'm currently finishing this belated review, and unfortunately, the baked beans were unmemorable. I think the corn bread was good. I vaguely remember really liking it, but I can't vouch for that. Real Bbq food , great service and great food. Reading all of the negative reviews about the staff made me nervous but I didnt see any of that. I was seated immediately and was greeted with a smile each and every time. We ordered some wings to start and they were cooked just perfectly and everything just slid off the bone. Then we ordered the combo with 3 meats, and 2 sides. Currently [sept 2015] if u check in on Yelp u get a free side as well. We got the brisket, roast chicken, and pork belly for meats. Brisket was the favorite for us then comes the pork belly and chicken was last but definitely not a bad choice either. Sides we ordered were mac and cheese, beans, and garlic fries. I truly believe that New York City has some of the best foods in the world. But unfortunately when you think New York City, you don't exactly think barbecue. I randomly came across Butcher Bar the other day on Yelp and bookmarked it for future food adventures - and that day, was this past Saturday. I arrived to the restaurant with my husband at 6:30pm expecting a wait. Surprisingly, it was pretty empty at the time and we were seated immediately at the corner booth. Our waitress was Kaitlyn who was an absolute delight, a very sweet girl. We ordered the chili cheese fries as an appetizer and the butcher's platter to share, which comes with a choice of three meats, two sides, as well as house slaw, pickles, and corn cakes. I utilized the Yelp check-in offer and got a free side as well - we chose the corn on the cob. Yes, that is a ton of food for two people! The chili cheese fries were a huge portion. It probably isn't a good idea to order this if you are there with only one other person, but hey you can always take it to go afterwards right? It was very good, but nothing out of the ordinary. Perhaps if I ever come back, I'd order something more original and cannot get anywhere else like the butcher's bowl. For the choice of three meats we chose the burnt ends, beef brisket, and pork belly. Of the three, I liked the burnt ends (aka "meat candy") the most, followed by the pork belly. While the burnt ends were tasty, I was expecting to be blown away from all the reviews I've read but no. Perhaps it was because we got the last bit of it since I heard our waitress telling the couple who were seated 15-20 minutes after us that the burnt ends were sold out for the night? It could've used a little more moisture and some crisped fat - that, is what sounds like heaven. The pork belly had a nice crisp to it with just the right amount of fat. I did not care too much for the beef brisket as I found it to be too dry. However after dousing the brisket with their original barbecue sauce to rehydrate it, it was mmMm good. For the two sides, we chose the creamy mac & cheese and the sautéed bacon & onion string beans. The mac & cheese was okay, I really enjoyed the cayenne pepper sprinkled on top. The string beans were somewhat overcooked and did not have much bacon flavor. Sad to say, my favorite of all the sides was the corn on the cob which is basically just boiled corn. The corn cake was dry. Maybe the baked beans would've been a better option. Overall, the food was just okay. I really enjoyed the ambience as it is very different and fun. Today's visit was just what I needed! My friends and I were in search of great BBQ & traveled all the way from East Harlem to Butcher Bar. From the moment we sat down we were greeted with great service. We were attended to quickly and friendly by Emily and her kind service. The meat candy sold us immediately it was so delicious and juicy and thank her because I would not have ordered it unless she suggested it. She did a good job also suggesting drink orders for me and my girlfriends. Now for the food itself it was amazing and delicious and on point! It wasn't too heavy on the belly but it was seasoned well and it was tender and it was also delicious. I give this place a five out of five I'll be back home for service, food, and experience! I've been wanting to try this place out for a while now. So the day finally came- boyfriend and I stopped in for brunch... and it was so good! We both got the brunch burger. Definitely a good choice. The burger was juicy and amazing. The home fries it came with were some of the most flavorful home fries I've ever had. And the salad was also nice as well. We loved their sauces and would mix it with the habanero and try it with everything on our plate. The brunch also comes with a drink! I ordered a Bellini and my boyfriend ordered a mimosa. Both were delicious. They have a brunch happy hour (I unfortunately forgot the times) but it's $6 each for the brunch drinks, after the one that comes with brunch. The burger was very good though. Burnt ends...slightly crispy, slightly sweet...yum! The biggest tip I can give is to make a Yelp account if you don't already have one and to check in because you get a free side just by doing so! That's like saving $5 with just a few clicks on your phone! I got the mac and cheese and it was really good. Very creamy and flavorful. Here is my problem. I love this restaurant, the food is amazing and although the prices are way too high I get it, times are hard. COVID made things more expensive. But, I rarely order delivery anymore because I can't afford the inflated pricing and delivery fees that almost equal the order itself. Recently I ordered delivery and paid $10 for fees and delivery (minus tip). And my food was cold. Entree mostly cold But dessert stone cold like they just pulled it out of the cooler and sent it along. But even with takeout you'll get your BBQ fix. The best part of this place is that the menu is really on point and you won't regret anything you get because everything is made well. I was looking for a new place to take my wife for her birthday. My Daughter recommended Butcher Bar. She had eaten there in the past and said her Mom would like it. My Son and Daughter decided to join us and surprise their Mom. Butcher Bar does not take reservations for less than a table for 6 we had 6 people and made a reservation for 8PM. We arrived at 8PM and my wife was delighted to see the rest of the family waiting for her. We were seated at 8:10 and our drink order was taken. The food was outstanding between the 6 of us we had ordered almost every type of meat on the menu. The brisket was moist and flavorful, the burnt ends were perfectly charred, the pulled pork had a nice tang to it. The pork belly was good but a little too fatty for my liking. Their sausage of the day was a Philippino sweet sausage, I ordered some as a side and it was packed with flavor and super moist. Speaking of sides I tried the smoked bacon baked beans, homemade potato salad and coleslaw. I tried my Daughter's mac and cheese and that I thought was just OK. All platters came with coleslaw and pickles. At the end of our meal they brought us some homemade apple cake and my wife's piece had a candle in it and they sang happy birthday to her. Came here due to groupon coupon. Please read the fine print.. the coupon excludes steak and ribs!!!! Kind of odd since bbq restaurants specialties should include ribs. I tried the burnt ends and briskets and both tasted like it was oven baked. I was especially disappointed with the brisket which was so dry and bland. The burnt ends were flavorless and limp.
