Butcher Paper is a small shop with a big punch! There are no words to accurately describe how good the food was. The ribs had the right amount of smoke, perfect tenderness, and well balanced flavor. It smelled so good that I never made it out of the parking lot and unfortunately didn't think to even take a picture - I figured just bones wouldn't do it justice (or maybe it would have, ha) There is no doubt that I will be back more times than I probably should. Just wanted to try the pulled pork and stew, because if they don't get that right, noting else can be exceptional. Absolutely the most tender pulled pork I have ever had. Sides + Meats + Sauce = a great barbecue. Everything is on point at Butcher Paper. The two meat plate was a great value for the amount of food on the plate. Generous portions (wings and brisket) cooked to perfections. The bark on the brocket was thick and full of flavor. The wings were nearly perfect. The meat didn't need the sauce, and when you combine the two the experience gets better. The smoked Mac-n-cheese put this over the top. This is a mac-n-cheese for the grown up table for sure. Off the beaten path but visit it anyways. Only minutes off of I-85 in Opelika, AL this BBQ joint has some of the best BBQ you can find. There are a lot of BBQ places, most are good, this is one of the best anywhere. The pork is moist, smoky and has a nice bark and the crispy burnt edges you love. But, it is moist and tender. Unfortunately, the brisket was all gone today. Don't forget the sides! Great baked beans made there with pieces of burnt ends in it. A beautiful tangy sauce that is different from anything I have had before. A little spicy, a touch of sweet and a mouthful of flavor. The beans still have a great nutty bite. The collard greens rounded out the meal and were probably the best I have had, seasoned with BBQ meat, a touch of vinegar and spice, yummy. Super casual dining with indoor and lots of outdoor seating. If you are anywhere near Opelika, AL stop by, you won't regret it. Wow what a find. I eat BBQ way more often than I probably should (several times a week) all around Atlanta area. Was traveling down I-85 and stopped by Butcher Paper BBQ to grab a couple sandwiches to go. We opted to sit outside and eat there. Brisket was good, but a little dry. Sides were all good. Service was also good. The only downside and reason for 4 vs 5 stars is that we arrived at 6pm on Monday, July 5th, which was a holiday, and they had sold out of pork, sausage, ribs, and banana pudding. They had a few chicken halves and quarters and brisket left. The key lime pie was slightly frozen. Cornbread was also slightly dry. All in all, I'd try it again, but hope for more meat choices. read more

Well thanks Yelpers! We were driving down to Pensacola around supper time and I checked Yelp- and it led us straight to this gem!!! We never would have known about it but for Yelp!!! Just a short distance off the highway but a million miles from "highway food"! I had the brisket and the chicken- and I can't pick which one was best! The chicken was tender, perfectly cooked, moist and smoky. The brisket was tender and flavorful and the burnt ends were some of the best I've ever had! My husband had the ribs and brisket. He is quite the rib aficionado and he pronounced them some of the best he's had! The meats were so good that you really didn't need sauce, but they had a good spicy sauce and a mustard based one- not exactly South Carolina mustard based style ( a little thinner) but very good! The BBQ slaw side was crispy, cool and fresh tasting. The Mac and Cheese had a smoky flavor and it was delicious. Not the gloppy runny Mac and cheese that you sometimes get at BBQ places-this has a firmer bite and is a real "stick to your ribs" type of Mac and Cheese. Soooo good - but very rich and filling! If we hadn't been on the road I definitely would have taken leftovers home- I'll bet it is even better a day later as a leftover! Huge portions- I feel like I need to take a nap now! This restaurant honestly knocked my socks off! I haven't been able to find a BBQ place that I'm passionate about since moving to Columbus, Ga but we took a short drive to Opelika and tried out this place! It's cute and small and the staff was very friendly. They got the food out super quick -- it's like they have their lunch rush assembly line down to a science and everything was SO GOOD. If I could I would give this restaurant a 0 out of 10. Me and my family had lunch here about a week ago and the food was horrible. The ribs were so dry Bbq sauce couldnt even save it . The potions was very small and my bills was $91 for 5 plates of food. My daughter lover brisket and it was not consumable. The food was so bad I went back for a refund and the bill is still on my credit card.They apoligized and said I could keep the food so I did. When I got home instead of throwing it away I gave it to my dogs and they got sick had to take them to the vet. So on top of the bad food I had an expensive Vetenary bill to complement it. Best BBQ in this area!! These guys serve the best brisket I've had since I left Texas. Hard to find good brisket, if any, in this area. Haven't tried their chicken yet, but the other meats they sell are full of smoke with flavor and their sauces just add to the goodness. I recommend getting there early as they sell out of certain items since the food is good. Crew is very nice and friendly, place is clean. Just got back from a BBQ trail trip to Central Texas and decided to try Butcher Paper as a last minute meal before driving home to Columbus. I would pit the Butcher Paper burnt ends against any found in Texas. The brisket was good also, but was served somewhat chopped instead of the traditional slices. The mac and cheese was smoked and is possibly the best I've ever had and the baked beans had a dark sauce and contained many bits of meat that separates it from most others. With many Q joints in the area serving only pork it's nice to see BBQ beef done right. Best beef Que in East-Central Alabama and West-Central Georgia in my humble opinion. read more
