This is my go-to breakfast spot in Vallejo. I always order some version of a veggie omelette, and they always make it the way that I request. I usually sub sliced tomatoes for the side of potatoes. :) I like the omelettes here much better than Joy of Eating and Black Bear Diner. As far as desserts go, I've only tried the blueberry streusel. It's pretty good. read more

I do love the breakfast menu and have never met an entree I didn't love. I'll start with the hash and eggs, super yummy, ask for the hash crispy and eggs runny... trust me I think the Benedict breakfast and the skillet breakfasts could be bigger because I can't get enough when I order those. I like the fresh fruit too... and the pancakes... Lunches are good, Standard diner fare and the chicken is usually done right. The fries are only imperfect if it's super busy because they don't have time to let them crisp. And I'm sorry, but I've never been there for dinner... Just now left the Buttercup and it was not even busy so I don't really know what the problem was there tonight but none of our order came out together, my husband never got the coke that he ordered, and when the first plate of food did come out it was my child's grilled cheese and the pickle on the plate was bitten out of you can clearly see the teeth marks, see picture for evidence. I used to come here all the time. The waitresses are great. However, I don't know what kind of mid life crisis the kitchen is going through. I advised a group of friends to all come one Saturday morning because they have/had my favorite waffles. Unfortunately, food came out cold, the strawberries for the waffles were old and mushy. My eggs were soupy. It was bad. But I figured everyone has an off day. We told the manager who looked new. I'm used to the tall lady with the hair clip and pretty blouses ... she ran a tight ship. Anyway this new manager was not receptive and made all kinds of excuses. I let him know that I wanted to give him the feed back but her wasn't hearing it and didn't seem too bothered. I enjoyed the Fish and Chips I ordered--it was different than other places. It also didn't seem as greasy. I noticed that a lot of older people enjoy dining at this joint. We went the other night for dinner and I got the Linguine and meatballs... it didn't have very much mozarella AND it was SOOO watery, we stuck a piece of bread in there to sop it up but still ended up pouring out the rest of the juice into the little bowl that held the butter. My partner and I visited Buttercup twice this week. We really didn't expect this place to be this good. The most memorable dishes are their appetizers. Fist time we had "Ultimate Garlic Bread." Ultimate you said? This is not kidding! It is a huge nicely grilled slices sourdough bowl with garlic butter and a roast garlic bulb. We are all dumbfound when the dish delivered. The second time we had "Jumbo Mozzarella Sticks." Jumbo you said? We had 4 golden Mozzarella sticks in the size of babies' arms! And they are delicious! They are deep fried thoroughly. The cheese is all melted. An it is not fried too much to be too greasy. We like other food as well, and their service is very nice. We definitely will go there often. read more

I had the corned beef and cabbage from Buttercup and normally Buttercup has very good food and flavorful food..however, the corned beef and cabbage was an epic fail. The carrots was under cooked...the cabbage was under cooked.. potatoes was actually the part of the meal. The corned beef was way too lean..tough and salty. We came in late a few nights ago for dinner after having lived in the area for a few years and this was a great diner experience. The staff were very kind and easy to joke with and the decor reminds me of the diner I used to go to as a kid back home in Wisconsin. It was all just very down to earth and homey in the best way possible. The dinner itself was fantastic. It's classic diner comfort food to its core. Everything was reasonably priced and delicious. I got a blue cheese burger with bacon and curly fries and the the boyfriend got a sandwich with fries. We also got mozzarella sticks and nachos which on hindsight was more than we bargained for in a very good way. The mozzarella sticks were huge, crispy, and gooey-good. Everything was so awesome I didn't finish everything so I could save room for dessert and ordered a peanut butter pie slice and it was worth taking a to-go on half of my dinner to be able to have the pie. It just all tasted like love in this hard to explain childhood-nostalgia sort of way. We'll be coming back again because I need to go through their whole pie list. :) read more

Overall, the best breakfast you're going to find in Vallejo, bar-none. I finally gave Buttercup a go a few weeks ago, I was pleasantly surprised to enjoy a first rate Breakfast, infinitely better than heading over to the IHOP by I80. I enjoyed a straight Denver Omelette with hash browns and English Muffins. I'm withholding one star in the hope of marginal improvement. Overall, a most excellent experience. read more

Was here the other day to try their Winter item that was on the menu coming from Oakland we had more breakfast spots that served Fish, Chicken, and Shrimp and Grits so when my daughter told me they had it on the menu I rush over to try and I must say it was very tasty but a little pricey but the price they charge can be justified if they added eggs and toast or their homemade biscuits hopefully Management will keep it on the menu year round read more

This place was a nice surprise and certainly one of the best breakfast/brunch places in town! I would give 4 stars compared to to other breakfast places in Vallejo, but 3 stars compared to all the other breakfast places I've had in general. A group of friends and I came in on a late Monday morning for brunch and the place was more crowded than I would expect for a random Monday morning, so I took that as a good sign. For myself, I ordered the sausage showdown scramble which came with hashbrowns and toast - it was a very generous portion of food for a reasonable price! I liked how the dish truly lived up to its name by having a plentiful amount of sausage. The eggs were also cooked well and the cheese was nice and melty. I also tried some of my friends' dishes, which consisted of the sunrise scramble, the country fried steak, chili cheese fries, and the frosted "cinnascuit." All dishes were pretty tasty, but the standout of the whole table would have to be the cinnascuit! It's essentially a biscuit and a cinnamon roll combined, with a cream cheese frosting on top. The cinnascuit itself was served nice and warm, but still pretty moist. The cream cheese icing on top had the perfect balance of tanginess and sweetness and tasted so good on the warm biscuit. I definitely recommend trying this, and I found out that you can actually substitute the toast for the cinnascuit for an extra $1, which is totally worth it! Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here - the food was surprisingly really good (for Vallejo standards), and the service was attentive and friendly. read more

That pie was to die for.... We were exhausted, they were open until 10pm, food was good, and the waitress was really sweet! Coworkers and I have had some fairly good lunches at Buttercup. The soup is pretty tasty, and my coworkers love the hamburgers and sandwiches. Today, I wanted breakfast for lunch, and they have an extensive breakfast menu. I chose the chicken apple sausage with scrambled egg, biscuit and Pat O'Brien potatoes. The meal came out very fast, but the egg seemed room temperature and a bit watery tasting, and the potatoes and sausage were burned, but the biscuit was pale and far from golden brown. I am from the deep south, so I have set a high bar when it comes to biscuits. I will take it home and cook to a golden brown. I saw the guy next to me got a fruit cup instead of potatoes, I definitely would get that next time over the potatoes. I will go back, because it is a nice, clean place, with good service, and ok or better food. One day, I'll have saved enough calories for a piece of pie! read more
